This Physiotherapist is classified in the category of Sports medicine clinic.
My lower back pain each time after skiing has been bothering me for 3 years. I was recommended by a friend to see Dr Julia Hamilton and she's been great! She listens to you and also gets right to the point. I actually missed my second appointment and she's kind enough to squeeze me in and still see me. The receptionists are also very nice and professional. I am very surprised by the bad reviews for I personally have a very positive experience with this clinic. Updates after 2 months: My physiotherapist Francis is amazing! She taught me workouts that work like magic. For 10 years, I can't bent forward to touch my feet because of lower back problems and Francis fixed it! I also don't have severe pain after skiing now. I can enjoy my ski trip and go skiing 4 days in a row without any problems! I am so happy and thankful!
Receptionist was very rude so i got really upset and walked away, this is how they treat people for the first time I thought it suppose to be welcoming. I guess I interrupted their talking so thats what you get people, customer comes second.
They didn't fix my knees
This place is a scam. First off, the receptionists are forever having a bad day. The physiotherapist Jeff Bird does not have basic honesty. Besides the laughable maneuvers which he calls physiotherapy, he used the last 10 mins of my therapy session attending to another patient while I just sat there with a ice pack. When I confronted him he said he didn't have anything else to work on me. But he still chose to charge me for a 40 min session when he could have made it a 30 min session. And he asked when i would be back for another session. Although my insurance paid for it, however I could not stand such an act of scamming the insurance company so I fought for it, got a reduced charge and never returned. I healed on my own eventually.
I went for a meniscus issue, hoping that an injection would be able to help the issue. Dr. Clarfield was open and honest about not doing the injection ($600) and referred me to the in-house Ortho surgeon. I ended up having the meniscus trimmed (surgery) and followed it up with physio. I found everyone to be very helpful.
Dr. Kraft is great. I was fortunate to be able to get an ultrasound right after my appointment, and discuss the preliminary results with Dr. Kraft not long after. This would have required 3 separate visits at other clinics. I'm training for the Boston Marathon and have a chronic glute/upper hamstring issue.
Clarfield is one of *THE* worst, most unprofessional and rude doctors I have ever had the misfortune of being sent to. No manners, no professionalism, and seems to enjoy bullying his patients with subtle hints and comments. I felt as if I'd gone in only to be put on the spot by someone looking to inflate his own ego. Never, ever, ever again. I don't do business with smug and pretentious has-beens.
I went to Dr. Clarfield when I was desperate for an alternative to knee replacement surgery. My cartilage in one knee was a mess. He suggested stem cell treatment and a session of PRP as a possible method of improving my knee. He did say that the odds were about 50/50 but for $3000 I was willing to gamble. I had a few weeks of very bad pain after the injections, and no improvement in my knee, zero, after 8 months. I read today in the Globe that stem cell treatments have been halted by Health Canada as unproven potentially unsafe. These days I'm doing very well after knee replacement surgery.
Great all around. Physio with Steven was incredibly helpful. One of the best experiences I've had as a patient!
I get a kick out of some of the reviews about Dr Clairfield saying he is arrogant and/or mumbles. He is there to do a job, most importantly. I didn't find him arrogant at all, just competent. He fixed my elbow tendon when others could not and were recommending surgery. If you can't understand what he is saying, ask him to repeat it, he doesn't bite. I would recommend him 100% and I'm not a person star struck by the medical profession, believe me.
Dr.Hamilton is by far the best sports Dr. I've ever had the pleasure of seeing (and I've seen a few in Toronto). She has a no BS, straight to the point, clear and accurate approach. She will get you back on your feet faster than you think possible. There's an x-ray/ultrasound clinic pretty much inside of this location (though under a different name and unaffiliated but you'd never know) which makes for a super convenient experience. You can get your ultrasound/x-ray and then book your appointment with Dr.Hamilton right away (or vice versa). Go see her!
I went to Sports Medicine Specialists on 150 Eglinton Ave E over summer of 2015 after a knee injury that I got during playing soccer. I was diagnosed with a muscle problem, and it didn't resolve as quickly as the Physiotherapist said in the initial assessment. I went to once per week sessions for almost 2.5 months, and at the end of it, my Physio went on a vacation. I discontinued going as it was not producing any changes then, and a different Physio who was substituting for my original one gave a different diagnosis after 8 weeks of sessions. It was confusing and didn't make any sense. This summer my knee pain reappeared, and a new physiotherapist at a different facility has diagnosed it as a cartilage problem, and I trust her. Overall, I'm disappointed that the diagnosis was wrong. I will not name the Physiotherapist who saw me because I think she was great, but there are many problems with this place not related to the individual RPTs and others that practice here. Some of the problems are : - The beds are not private - they're an open concept, and though there are screens intended to give privacy, they're not ideal or inviting. - The place is extremely busy, at least in the mornings. Your Physio will see you for approximately 20 minutes or so for the initial assessment, and then 'hand you over' to an intern/assistant to do some generic massage or something else while they move on to someone else. In the follow up sessions, this time spent with you reduces to 5-10 minutes, before they move on to another client. I think this is really bad service for the money charged, and it's very focussed on making as much money as possible. - They hook you up to Ultrasound heat therapy and TENS electric stimulation every time you go there. It is approximately half the time you spend there, and I used to feel this is free extra treatment. However, this can or can not be a good thing depending on your problem. For me, it made no difference with my knee problem getting better or worse. - They have extremely long waiting times for calls, and there is inconsistent availability of people on the booking desk/reception. Again, I would say I got good care here and my knee problems got better, but I think this place could be better managed and the focus could be placed more on the clients personal care rather than trying to get as many people in through the door. Personally, I would not go here again, as I didn't like the experience.
A boutique - not a care centre. Absolutely no regard for people. Left after 45 minutes - past our appointed time because there was no indication of when the doctor would be free. Made another appt. with the same doctor. After being assured that the doctor would see us - give or take a reasonable amount of time, we were told they had no idea when the doctor would be available. Totally disregard for people and their time.
The Physiotherapists and PT assistants do an amazing job. I tore my ACL and had no idea what measure to take to rehab myself back. They created a very calm, understanding and welcoming environment. They have a wealth of knowledge and really care for your wellbeing and healing. My PT Vanessa has been understanding of my needs and wants to return to sport but helping me take proper measures. She is always on time and takes the time to answer any of my questions. I have had only wonderful experiences with her work. I am very happy to be a client at the Cleveland Clinic. Thank you for everything you're doing and everything you have done!
I'll preface by stating that I have a more than average knowledge of how they operate as I started coming to their Eglinton location in August of 2020 and over the past 17-18 months I have been about 25 times and spent $3,500-4,000. However, I will not be going back as what seemed like just a minor inconvenience in the early days can actually hurt your health, in the long run. The MAIN issue, which may not seem major but actually is in the grander scheme of things is their ATROCIOUS front desk and admin staff and their inability to use the information systems they have. You might think like I used to "well I'm here to see the doctor so who cares?" but think about what happens when their systems book you in the wrong time and then you show up after having waited weeks to see someone only to be told "you are there at the wrong time" and they ask you to leave although you triple confirmed over the phone. And then you have to wait even longer for a health issue that worsens over time. This is only one example. Others include: *When I was badly limping due to my temporary (and fixable) knee condition and trying to quickly book an appointment with my physio they took more than 10 days to get back to me despite several messages. *When I purchased a bundle of training passes to get their discounted rate... they should have provided a disclaimer stating that they'll miscount and overcharge you, thereby absolutely negating any effect the bundling had in the first place. Imagine buying a 12 pass bundle and only being able to use 10 because they miscounted... and you must be wrong because they are never wrong. *The physio sessions come with sets of workouts on their app which doesn't work properly. Even their teams complains about the app not showing them what the client sees on their end. A program that was very well thought out becomes an incomprehensible and illogical mess. *Check your invoices. Every single time. You'd be surprised and mistakes, if obvious and only if you firmly stand your ground, will be rectified. It's a "charge first, don't listen later" approach to business and it's despicable. *The last straw - Today: I came for the make-up appointment they had mistakenly booked on the wrong time another week and for once in this relationship I'll admit some fault. I had just renewed my health card and didn't bring the new health code with me. I've been there almost weekly for training sessions and they now know me by name and YET they would refuse to allow me the courtesy of sending them a scan of the new code I have home after the visit. Instead they wanted me to pay $75. Don't nickel and dime your customers for admin mistakes that can be easily fixed at no cost. You didn't need to ask me to pay this fee when you knew my code would be sent to you an hour later. Shame on you Cleveland Clinic for making your good customers feel unwelcome and like 25+ sessions with you and my willingness to keep coming back despite your screw-ups did not earn me any trust in return. I left and will not use their medical services again. I cannot risk counting any further on unreliable and unwilling staff for my health and wellbeing.
I had the "pleasure" of meeting Dr. Julia Hamilton to examine my injured leg. She was not only rude, but very condescending. I think she has watched way too much House (the tv show) and will use every opportunity to dismiss you with her snarky remarks. She needs to take a course on professionalism to improve her attitude. I didn't have any issues with the rest of the staff. The intern was polite and considerate. The reception is understaffed, however, they were very nice.
If you have a sports related injury make sure to see Dr. Ira Smith. Not only is he one of the top sports medicine doctors in Toronto, with impressive credentials, he is also wonderfully caring, thorough, and happy to answer your questions. I unfortunately re-tore my ACL from a cross-country skiing incident and he expertly checked both knees and demonstrated how my ACL was torn again on my bad one. He then immediately referred me to an orthopedic surgeon for next steps. Highly recommend!
Got there at 2:15 for a 2:30 appointment, check in with reception, after waiting for 90 minutes did not see any doctor , went to receptionist and she did not offer any explanation, no apology. no nothing just a dumb look on their faces....
I had good treatment some years ago at the clinic, so I was puzzled when I read the negative reviews. However, I was recently treated quite rudely over an administrative matter and I wonder if there has been a change in attitude at the top.
I had the pleasure of a consultation with Dr. Hamilton today. Prior to my visit l read her reviews, a number were unfavourable. Having met her, l want to assure you, she is an outstanding physician. Yes, she isn’t there to win points by being condescending , nor is she there for small talk. However, she provides an honest assessment and suggests a treatment plan.
My family and myself have had incredibly positive experiences with Dr.Clarfield, Dr.Oglivie, Dr.Chang and many others in their sports medicine practice over the past 13 years. The transition from the sports medicine clinic to the Cleveland clinic has been seamless for the most part. Through their passion for what they do and their huge priority into diagnosing and then treating any and all injuries or problems, my family has been extremely impressed. Their access to very quick MRI diagnosis is very impressive and most beneficial for high level athletes. We have recommended this facility to many many people. Huge shout out and thank you to Dr.Clarfield, Dr.Oglivie, Dr.Chang and the great administrative staff for making our many injuries become a thing of the past quickly. Great clinic and incredible caring staff. Thank you Jeff Robertson and family
Excellent care - considerate staff and professional state of the art treatments
Dr Clarfield is exceptional. I would wait in line for a week... He is worth it. He has helped me with my injuries and pain when others could not. Thank You Dr Clarfield!
I was referred to the Cleveland Clinic by my family Physician for a torn radial brachialis. I have been pleasantly surprised by the professional, thorough, patient, understanding Dr. Ira Smith. He took his time to accurately diagnose my injury; he was informative; and he was very knowledgable. I can definitely appreciate his positive attitude, as well as his sense of humour. I would recommend Dr. Smith to my family and friends.
Dr. Clarfield is the worst doctor I've ever met. He misdiagnosed my shoulder injury and had me go to months of physio (which benefited his pocket) for no reason. I genuinely think this doctor wants to find what is wrong with you, but in the fastest manner possible. He is regarded as this amazing sports doctor with years of experience treating pro athletes...but he won't care about you. I spent a year in pain because I trusted this guy. Maybe he can fix you, but he just wasted my time and took my money without a smile.
I have been going to this clinic off and on for many years and have been rehabilitated for all of my sports related injuries. Mike Clarfield is an excellent Dr and has diagnosed my injuries correctly and prescribed the right physio therapy to aid in the healing.
The pedorthist at this location, Peter Charbonneau, was recommended to me by a friend who spoke highly of him. Peter is fantastic! I was a first-time orthotics wearer and Peter took his time to explain everything thoroughly. The orthotics have really helped my knee injury. I needed them quickly and he had them made ASAP.
Took my wife to the Cleveland Clinic today to see what our options were to deal with her meniscus tear in her right knee. Had the great misfortune of being assigned Dr. Michael Clearfield. Probably the most dislikable person / Doctor you will ever meet. Even though he had her MRI result discribing the "complex meniscus tear", he made no reference to it. Instead, he rubbed her knee for a few minutes and had us go across the hall for an X-RAY! ($$$$$$). This told him almost nothing and certainly less than an MRI. After waiting, he suggested that we get fitted for a knee brace in in office ($$$$$$) and, wait for it, gave us a req. FOR A BLOOD TEST!!!! Waste of time. We just left the office and went home. Stay clear of this guy.
I saw Paul for a biodex test post ACL surgery. Paul was very good and explained the test and results thoroughly. The front desk was a different story. The receptionist was very rude and not at all helpful. This was my first time at the clinic and first time making an appointment and she tried to charge me $40 for a no-show fee for an appointment I never made. The date shown on the charge was the date I probably called the clinic to make my appointment.
Great clinic.
I would like to start off by saying that this is the first time I have ever needed to write a review. Never in the 10 years of working in a medical field have I ever come across such a rude, arrogant human being as Micheal Clairfield. I have been having ongoing knee pain for the past few years due to a childhood injury, and was hoping that he might be able to properly diagnose my problem. Instead, right from the moment he walked into the exam room I was met with nasty comments and accusations about being late and holding him up. FUNNY thing is my appointment was at 10:00 am, I had showed up at 9:58, yet the doctor didn't enter my exam room until 15 minutes after that. Through my rushed appointment he acted disinterested and kept on bring up sarcastic comments about how I was late for the appointment. I was than asked to wait outside while he gets my complete medical records from my doctor. I approached the receptionist to confirm that I was on time and asked why my appointment was cut short, she agreed that I did arrive on time was was puzzled. I ended up waiting for over an hour and was then told the real reason that he was not able to speak to me: He had to catch a flight. So in the total time I spent waiting around (1.5 hours) he was not able to speak to me and even tell me what his diagnoses or general thoughts might be. What sickens me the most is that this doctor will profit even though an examination didn't really happen. I left his office empty handed with nothing more than tasteless accusations, rude comments and a really bad taste in my mouth. I have suffered with this pain for so long now, and finally when I get sent to a specialist, it turns out to be a rotten experience. Now I have to reschedule with another doctor and wait even longer to find out what is wrong with my knee. Rest assured, it won't be this doctor!
Overpriced, busy and rude staff. Will not return.
Cured my broken ankle
I met Dr Clarfield today for a shoulder issue. He was very professional and thorough. I was impressed how efficient my first visit was. I can only think that the reviews I’ve seen from the past caught him and his staff on a bad day.
I think Covid has made everything difficult but they are open and trying their best. I have frozen shoulder and they gave a cortisone shot after xray and it was ultra sound guided, but unfortunately my shoulder didn't respond. We followed up with a saline shot but that too didn't work. They have recommended physio which I agree but I'm doing it at home with youtube videos. I found them all pleasant and professional. Like I said, Covid is messing with everyone's services.
I was examined by Dr. Clarfield yesterday for an acute knee problem. I was extremely impressed by the entire process. I was seen promptly and was given an extremely thorough and detailed examination. Dr. Clarfield was very personable and clearly very knowledgeable. I received an x-ray and ultrasound and the results were reviewed and explained to me within minutes of the imaging. Treatment options were presented and he suggested that I think over my options carefully before making any decisions. The whole process took less than an hour from beginning to end and was done in such a professional and thorough manner. I can't say enough good things about my experience,
I came in with a minor injury that wasn’t causing me pain, and left with a major injury to my knee because the doctor performed an inappropriate maneuver considering the history I had just given her. I was immediately sent to physio and after 15 mins told I could leave, but could barely walk. after seeing another physician will potentially need surgery. When I tried to reach the doctor later that day to understand what the injury was and come up with a treatment plan, she had left for the day and would not be back for a week. I couldn’t walk for days, and had little idea of what actually had happened other than it’s a “meniscus thing”. This place seems to be more concerned with hitting their billable hours targets and leaving than the well-being of their patients. Would avoid.
Dr Clarfield was uncaring and unprofessional. He misdiagnosed a cerebral venous blood clot as a chronic tension headache and prescribed just more physical therapy at his suggested clinic. Because of this my child has suffered a significant lifelong disability with vision problems and constant pain. My child suffered a decade of pain and permanent disability because of his non chalant attitude. He did not do enough and did not care to do enough. He was dismissive and flippant. We had to take our child to the USA to get proper treatment but by then it was too late. Because of his ineptitude my child has a permanent disability- got into Stanford but unable to attend because of the disabilities. I would never recommend him or this clinic- too cavalier and unskilled. He should have prescribed an Mri(v) at the emergency room and taken my child's complaints seriously. I would never live in Canada again because of the casual medical care.
Dr Jim niu he's a true representation of how doctors should conduct them selfs. Was going through multiple doctors trying to diagnose my health concerns. Dr niu was the only doctor that took me seriously and pointed me in the right direction. If was not for him I would still be chasing for answers and help. Thank you again DR NIU.
my husband had a 2:30 APPOINTMENT Friday got there at 2:15, waited for an hour an a half ,no doctor came to see him, gave his health card when he checked in at 2:15 reception offered no alternative when he said he was not going to wait any longer..I would not even give them 1 star
Two weeks ago, I had the misfortune to experience Dr. Clarfield's rude behaviour, sarcasm and complete lack of bedside manner. I was put in a room right away, but then waited nearly an hour before the doctor showed up. I should have walked out. During my 10-minute appointment, he stepped out twice to take cell phone calls. I had two issues I needed to discuss - and two ultrasounds printed out - but he said he could only look at one. "We can't do everything in one day", he said. Not only are my medical issues fairly straightforward, but if he had been on time and not taken the calls, we would have had plenty of time for my second issue. To top it all off, he dealt with my first issue in a sarcastic and demeaning manner, so I left feeling uncertain and discouraged about my next steps. How do doctors like this stay in business?
Great staff, great facility. First time there and everything was efficient and thorough.
This place is purely amazing. I’ve had many physio issues with my back and a broken foot. They have always been super professional, kind and caring. I also regularly observe the other clients receiving great service. There are thousands of loyal clients. I highly recommend this place to anybody for all your physical ailments. And if you need physio I suggest Bryant. He’s excellent.
Best care in the city. Never saw Clarefield, but the other doctors I saw were great. My only problems with the clinic is that I've never not been on hold for 10 minutes, and they have that "higher call volume than normal please hold". It's definitely normal, and they need to fix it. Also, Dr Zarnett is almost impossible to reach via phone. care is good, 4 stars for the impossibility of contacting them
