From the moment I met John and Anita, it was like I was welcomed into their house. John was wearing a moose shirt the first time we met and my husband's favorite animal is a moose, so he instantly liked him. Anita is of Hungarian background and so am I, so we really connected. Then I saw John's sample wedding album, and I was kind of in awe of his use of lighting and his pictures looked so romantic, which I loved. His packages made it easy to choose the right package for us, however, I really felt the need to have all the digital files since I am big time scrap-booker and would want make some other albums and photo art, so I am happy I did that, but I had to negotiate to get the digital files. John was very accommodating, and he gave me all the digital files from the wedding for free! I have really never been photographed much by a professional photographer, but John made it fairly easy for me to get through our engagement session and wedding, he is a pro! I really appreciated his openness and willingness to hear our input and requests for certain photographs. I felt very comfortable with him as my photographer as I am kind of shy. During our wedding he got some really beautiful shots, I was floored by some of his pictures. My only regret looking back is not being more specific about certain photos that I should have requested, and looking back I should have been more prescriptive and made a list to ensure I got all the photos I wanted, but that is not John's fault at all. I had an extensive role in picking photos and arranging and re-arranging photos for our wedding album and parent albums with Anita, she was really patient with me and I had a lot of changes and revisions, but the end result was some wonderful albums and I really appreciated John and Anita's courteous professionalism. I never thought I would have to interact so much with a photographer during and after our wedding, but for those searching for a photographer I highly recommend John/Sooter's you won't be disappointed. Its very important to chose a photographer you have a connection with!

My Fiance and I researched many photographers when choosing one to shoot our wedding day. From the minute we walked into Sooters studio John and his staff were so nice to us and made us feel so comfortable. Their albums were amazing and they worked with our budget to make sure we could have what we wanted. We have currently only done our engagement photos with John as our wedding is not until June of 2014, but at our engagement session John was fast, efficient and knew exactly what he was doing. He gave us every direction we needed and was very accommodating to our location choices. We mentioned to John we wanted a lot of candid photos and that is exactly what he did! When we went to view our pictures for the first time a few days ago we were blown away. I was beyond excited about these photos. They were amazing and everything we pictured. I would highly recommend John and his staff at Sooters for your wedding photography. I would like to post a comment about not only quality of work Sooters does, but also the quality of people they are. I had Sooters take photos for my wedding on October 13, 2018. They did a wonderful job. The photos were amazing, John and his staff were nothing but perfect to work with. The photobooth at the wedding was a fun and great touch. John, the owner/manager even came out to the wedding afterwards to make sure we were happy with everything. On October 24, 2018 we suddenly lost my father. The photos from the wedding were the last picture we would have of my father alive. When i went to pick up the jump drive of all the pictures, I explained to John why they were even more important. John dropped all his tasks to go through my family photos and find good quality shots of my family and father together and made those prints a priority. Thank you John and your staff for being extremely professional but also amazing, compassionate human beings. M.H.

Words could not describe how happy we were with our engagement photos (the album we got for it was nothing I have ever seen before) and our wedding photos were nothing but superb. My experience with Sooters was not the greatest. I booked with them for my wedding after thinking I was getting this "great" deal. It all started with the price. I called them with a budget and told him I was willing to spend up to a certain amount. I was told that he had a package within those means which also had the taxes figured in and that it included the disc and a free picture. After paying the deposit and later on going in the week before my wedding with the rest of the money, I was told there was an additional amount owing. When I asked what that was, he said the taxes. I told him that he told me this package was with the taxes already in the price. (He personally took my email address and told me he would email me my receipts, which I never did get. Perhaps that's because he was sidetraked by another customer that was spending more money that happened to come in after me) Now, after the wedding, we never did get our free photo (was told afterwards that wasn't included either) and he promised a cd that had the pictures of my choice edited. (He never done that either) I picked up my cd (unedited) 2 weeks later and was happy with the quality, but wish I could have had some edited. My advice to anyone that considers going here is to make sure you get a contract in writing, right then and there... Do not take his word for it, or accept the line "I will send it to you by email". Or better yet, you can take your business to someone else that would be happy to work with you and take the time to give you what you want.

After going to 4 other professional photography/framing specialists in the area, I was referred to Sooters and I'm so glad I did. I had an old photo that I was looking to have retouched but had trouble explaining what I was looking for. They took me in immediately (the week before Christmas), scanned my photo and went right to work, offering some retouching options that no one else had so far. It seemed like such simple process!. My wife and I had the pleasure of working with John L. from Sooters Windsor for the past year. We met with John at the wedding extravaganza back in 2011 and were really pleased with what we saw for his work that he had displayed. We booked his ruby package right away. We booked John 2.5 years before our wedding and we also wanted to get engagement photos done by him as well. John was wonderful, he went out of his way to accommodate us. We procrastinated badly and were so busy that we messaged him 7 days before our wedding and said we need to do our engagement photos ASAP. John said no problems, and 2 days later he met us at 8am in the morning in a sunny, foggy, dew covered apple orchard and snapped over 100 beautiful pictures in less than 1.5 hours. His manipulation of light and scenery was astounding. On the wedding day he met the guys at the Hilton on Huron church right on time at exactly 1030. He snapped pics of them getting ready, then suggested a wonderful sophisticated looking hallway downstairs in the lobby. He then met the girls for 1130 again on time exactly. Snapped many wonderful looking pictures. (one was actually featured at his last display 2014 wedding extravaganza where my wife was crying with her girls surrounding her, fantastic picture.) He captured phenomenal photos of the ceremony, and reception as well. We took many pictures facing the Detroit skyline and the level of detail he was able to capture was insane, shadows and lighting covering the Detroit river was fantastic.and it was nighttime! We took pictures at Jackson Park during the day and he took total control. He knew all the best places too shoot and how we should be standing to manipulate the light and scenery. Overall we are insanely happy with the level of work John has provided for us. We spent much more above and beyond our package price because we loved our engagement photo session so much. We examined the work and prices of all the photographers and John is definitely a great deal. He owns his own shop so anything you need he is at your disposal and is very eager to make the client happy. Some photographers are cheaper but the ones we spoke with print off your pictures at Costco. Their is a big difference in quality between professional and Costco and if you do not believe try it sometime. Do not listen to the bad reviews posted at the beginning. If those reviews bother you, take the time to go visit John and ask him about them, he will explain it all and how those reviews are lies. I highly recommend Sooters. John, the photographer is great. He gives you what you want and when you want it. He's very creative, I loved all the pictures he took (and mind you he took a thousand pictures) The only hard part was choosing the pictures that made into the album. Most importantly though, he was very understanding, I missed a few appointments and not once did he mention it- and on the wedding day, he was nothing but patient and polite during the family photo ops. He was smiling throughout the day, his positive outlook was contagious, he had everyone smiling. Even my mom who was a little stressed out.
