Very poor experience at this studio. Photographer did not mention my tie was crooked, a fix which takes less than a minute, and instead I only realized this when seeing the computer screen. Had to argue for the photographs to be retaken, and when they were (at the end of the session), not all of them were redone. Only a handful. As I had realized the tie being off during the beginning 1/3 of the session, 1/3 of the photographs were unusable. $330 for 5 DIGITAL photos is outrageous, especially when the service was horrible. It is well known that UBC receives a kickback; hopefully some news service picks this up. Horrible!

Worst management and customer service , I don't know how they are still in business. Bad quality pictures and very expensive. Never going back there again.

Horrible place to go. The staff who took the pictures wasn't bad. However, the owner and other worker are rude and manipulative. They try to use intimidation by trying to get you to sit while asking about a charge while they talk over you (literally). Wasn't having it, then they got rude and disrespectful. Just wanted to know what an additional charge was for, and still don't know. Don't go here for any reason if you can avoid it. Ask for another photo studio to take your pictures at UBC if you go there.

There was a situation where my girlfriend had lost her deposit (due to expiration) and Evangelo's system did not allow her to deduct her deposit amount from her photo order. I reached out to them, and they helped my girlfriend arrive to solution. Glad to hear they care about their customers.

Did not get the $40 family photo when we ordered over $300 worth of photos in a package. They forgot to put in the envelope. When we went back to check with them they said we signed the paper so we must've gotten the photos. Also very overpriced.

***New updates They offered to replace the distorted photo within a week. Took my graduation photos there. Overall experience is great, but when i was ordering, the service wasn’t that good. 5 weeks to process and shipping is not included especially when they are charging that much. Also, their photoshop skill is bad. Messed up the background of my picture. See photo, the background is distorted.

Take your business somewhere else. I had the most unpleasant experience trying to receive my graduation photos, where I had to come back 3 times over 2 months to pick them up as a result of unwanted photo editing. What kind of company gets to decide what I should look like and edits my face to their standards? Only a disgraceful one. The company was insensitive to my concerns and offered no compensation or even an apology. Evangelos has no knowledge of what good customer service actually comprises of, and does not appreciate the money or time of their clients.

Photographers are very efficient and accommodating! If you have a request, tell them exactly what you want and they help make it happen. There's 3 free parking spots reserved in the back make it convenient for drivers, no need to pay for street parking! Would highly recommended for great service.

Awful place to visit. Avoid at all cost. They are unclear on what their package includes, take bad pictures, are unprofessional and unresposive. Their website is bad and not intuitive. I had to call several times to get access to my photos. Overal I had a horrible experience taking my grad photos with them. I would never go back.

Anya Torina

Honestly, I waited in line over 30 minutes to take passport photos that were overpriced ... At the end ... They couldn't even take it... Though they have nice setup for graduation pictures.

I am a recent UBC graduate and I went in with my family to get my graduation photos taken. Let me just start by saying I received the best customer service at Evangelos. They treated me more like family than a customer. All the photographers working that day were extremely kind and patient , as I came in with 5 of my family members. The owner even came in and helped me relax since I was so nervous that day. They really care about your happiness and their quality of work at Evangelos and the results are shown in their final product! I would definitely recommend taking your graduation or even just family photos at Evangelos and guarantee you will have an amazing experience !

Daniel Zhao

Went both here and to Artona for my grad photos. While I was satisfied with the photos, I was very unsatisfied that they did not apply the $40 cash deposit. I did purchase past their given deadline but to compare, I got a full refund on my deposit at Artona (which was $60) after the deadline as well when I didn't even purchase anything from them.

Landon Jackson

Photo quality was excellent and had a lot of fun taking graduation/business shots. Workers there are very friendly and professional, always putting you first. Amazing Experience!

Their prices are completely absurd. And the packages they offer are there to gauge you. Of course there is no deal for one or two digital photos, just 5 for over $280. It's disgusting that UBC has paired with them.

I went here for graduation photos and was not pleased. Overall experience was very rushed, and photographers were not communicative at all. Despite me informing them the only photo I needed was for the composite, the photographers did not clarify which photo would be used as the composite for graduation, and the session finished before I realized they'd taken the composite. Unfortunately, the few pictures I could choose from were the ones I didn't have a chance to fix my hair before. When I asked if I could retake a quick composite photo one of the photographers was very rude and said I had to choose from the ones they'd already taken. It was a complete waste of my day making the trip. My experience could have been vastly improved had the photographers taken the time to show me the photos and asked my opinion during the session so I could have made any necessary changes/fixes to my hair/collar/posture. Also, they spent time taking photos I made clear I didn't require and only a few seconds taking possible composites without informing me which were eligible for the composite. The only reason I didn't give one star is because the staff member at the desk and one of the photographers was friendly.

I wish I could give a lower rating than one star. This place is absolutely terrible. If you are reading this then please also check out all the other reviews. You can see that this place has an overwhelmingly number of bad reviews and this is due to a good reason. They rush you through and my pictures all look awkward. Then, when you go to buy the photos you have to work through countless stupid arrangements, frames, and figure out their stupid website. You are better off to take some pictures the day of graduation and print them off yourself!

Kelly Liu

Did my grad photos here. The photographers are skilled but sadly felt very rushed.

The worst service I have had in years. Their price is a rip off - $295 for 5 .jpg images!!! Printed images are cheaper which makes zero sense. UBC gave us a discount which they don’t want to respect for some meaningless reason. For 295 I can buy all the attire and make as many graduation photos as I want. This “business “ is a joke.

This place is a cash grab location. In parter with UBC reccomending them for photos they pump students through here requiring a $45 cash deposit. When it came time to purchase photos expect to pay more than your ubc course to receive your photos with just 5 digital copies being $287.99 and if you want to get any of your family/group photos they are an additonal $190 for just 3 of them. Getting any prints starts at $35 Being a hobbyist photographer this is disgusting what they charge. I have had dealings with multiple photographers in the past who provide all photos digitally and you just pay for just their time and studio time (if applicable) Based on the pricing and the Ammount of time we where in there it works out to about $400/h for some half rate photos. The staff where generally friendly but they work with the air of get as many photos done as quickly as possible to get you out of there Overall I will never return here

Fast, reasonable price and they are really taking care of you. It was pretty busy when I have gone there but they was caring about social distance and health stuffs! Which is awesome! My photo has taken for perminant resident pr so they do that kind of things as well beside of art base stuffs.

Olivia Maluorni

Forced to come here for my grad pictures. The lighting is terrible on most of my pictures and they force u to do "funny pictures" which is a complete waste cause who needs cheesy pictures.. just take more nice ones of me so i have more choice in the end lol. When ordering came the options are ridiclous. I have 4 group pictures but only want one of them, because the rest are the cheesy funny pictures. Instead of adding the one group picture onto digital format they are forcing me to buy ALL THREE pictures for 189 just to get ONE picture. I asked why this is the case, and she said "its your choice, we give u free group pictures".. yes "free" but to buy just one digital format you need to buy 3. SO now i am forced to get a print verson because 189 for one digital picture is ridiclous, who even uses print anymore I want a tech version so its there forever. OBVIOUSLY just a scam to get more money by forcing you to buy three of there pictures to get the one digital picture you want. If I knew this I wouldnt have let them take ridiclous pictures of me so at least im not buying some random pcitures with me in "funny" glasses

Annika Lo

Honestly, a very awkward experience. You basically change in a closet. The staff aren't terrible but they definitely don't make you feel excited about graduating

The owner directing the photos was very very nice! The photographers were VERY nice as well. The price to order photos is quite high though (although I understand they are a smaller business) and the girl at front desk wasn't the most friendly but was still professional.

Seneca Antony

Very poor photos, they somehow made my head really small and hands really big in all the pictures. They make you pose super awkward and its all very rushed and disorganized.

Alan Hu

Scam. DO NOT PAY THE DEPOSIT. Group photo is limited to less than 4 people, and a digital copy cost more than 300$. Just dress up and ask a random guy on the street, who can probably take a much proper grad photo for free. Like, seriously.

Albert Lin

Despite saying pets friendly, the manager was very rude to ours, even telling us to "make sure that [our dog] doesn't knock down the frames". The front desk was also rude. They told us to wait when we arrived on time, then rushed us through the shoot by threatening to cut the time short. The hired photographers however were very friendly and nice towards my dog. Overall, I don't recommend this place since the manager has a very rushed and unfriendly attitude towards my entire family. I suggest just going to the other photoshoot place across the street.

**Edit: After posting this I called one more time to try and ask for them to fax a piece of paper to London Drugs granting permission. They would do it, for $35... Worst customer service I have ever experienced! Trying to make a copy of my parents' wedding photo taken at Evangelos 37 years ago. There's a copyright on the photo, which is standard for the industry so I phone the store to discuss my options. Evangelos will make a copy for me with a quote of $55, but this is laughable as London Drugs will do the same thing for less than $10. I'm told over the phone that if I take the photo to the Evangelos shop they will give me permission to make my own copies. Great! So I drive 45 minutes to the store, they take one look at the photo and say "okay" ... that's it. I ask for something to be written down granting me permission and the staff member replies "no, we don't do that. Just have London Drugs call us and we'll say it's okay." This sounds weird to me so I inquire a little deeper, "You're sure? Can't you just write down on any piece of paper you give permission and sign it?" to which she replies "No, no, no...we do this all the time. They know us, they'll call" Waste of my time, but whatever, I return to London Drugs the next day and try to make a copy. The photo department won't do it, they need written permission because it's policy and they'll get in trouble if they stray. I'm annoyed, but at Evangelos because I understand the policy is to cover London Drugs' ass. Once again I'm on the phone with Evangelos and asking them to fax permission over to London Drugs, they say they'll call me back. 30 minutes go by with me waiting in the store. I call back, they put me on the phone with the owner, he says he's not going to waste his time writing permission on a piece of paper and faxing it! Won't waste 5 minutes of his time...he'd rather spend that time arguing with me on the phone. I ask how much he'd charge for a print now...he starts to say he won't for me (after calling me a liar for saying London Drugs won't make a copy), but stops himself and quotes $38 for a print. Less than the last quote, but do they just make up their prices on the fly? The owner was rude, lazy, unhelpful and straight up disrespectful. Avoid EvangeNOs Photography Ltd at any cost!

After paying $400+ for 25 digital images, I would expect at least get a DVD, No after 1 month wait they give a 256MB USB Disk! (yes, 256MB! Can you image you can find these USB Disk elsewhere nowdays?) , and each picture only 3MB !!! 3MB JPEG are you kidding me??? Looks to me they just want you to use 3MB JPEG print a 4*6 and buy big print images from them. Shame on UBC to use a such shady business!

The place need some renovation. The decor is like in the 80's. The backdrop and prop r really out dated. The older gentleman is really rude to the customer. Not sure how they still have the contract with UBC.

Went to this business last Saturday to do my UBC graduation photos. I was really hesitant to come here because of the poor reviews but I found that my overall experience here was great. My session lasted around an hour (individual plus 2 group portions). The photographers were friendly and great with directing me on how to pose and constantly fixing my hair and gown so that the photos would turn out great (from what I could see from the previews they looked nice). I felt like it got a little repetitive with the head shots, but they were in different angles, backgrounds and with different props. For the group portion, I asked if I could take a separate photo with just me and my brother in gowns before taking the family shot. They told me that it would be an additional $26+tax for another group session. I think they might've misunderstood me since I wanted one photo with the two of us before incorporating the third. However, it worked out since we got a lot of nice shots and to be honest the grad session was free anyways so it wasn't a big deal. Just an aside, it's stated that you have to bring a cash deposit and that is because they don't have a card machine. I think it would be nice if they had a card option since I usually don't carry cash around and I almost didn't have cash for the extra session. I look forward to seeing the photos and really hope they turn out nicely!

I was worried about taking grad photos there after reading all the bad reviews, and after my appointment I really needed to write one to defend them. No one rushed me nor my boyfriend. We booked our sessions back to back so we could take a few together. The photographer was really patient, she gave me enough time to change to my onsie for the photos. She took as many photos as we wanted in both onsies and normal clothes. Each photo took a long time to pose with two people but she was helpful in positioning us and fixing our facial expressions. For my individual photos the photographers always fixed my hair for me since it's the awkward shoulder length and doesn't really stay where it should be when I move. They also said silly things while capturing the photos so I'd smile and have a more natural expression in the photos. One of the photographers kept saying "where is the one million dollar smile?". I loved the experience there. Everyone was super friendly (except the front desk lady, she was just neutral maybe she was having a bad day). My appointment actually ended up being an hour long including the individual and group part. However I don't get the point of the $45 deposit that you can only get back by bringing in the receipt within 60 days. What is the point of this deposit? So some people might forget, or not bother the trip to the studio and just order photos instead? Good thing I live 1 block away.

Peggy Shen

Terrible quality of the grad photo and postures. The photographers were just cramming through everyone and don't even take a look of the photos after every shot. Of course you don't get to see the photos as well. Would never chose this shop other than being forced to take UBC grad photos here. sucks.

p birch

Very marginal photos with tacky background options. Photographer did not make effort to suggest tidying a young man's hair and didn't seem skilled enough to make the subject relax. Furthermore, the online photo previews are of such low quality, that I when I finally received my photo, it revealed a fake smile that had been hidden under the word "proof". So so so not recommended. Photo packages are not particularly flexible, and store opening hours correspond with most people's working hours M-F 9am-5pm.... not open late; no Saturday hours...

Melissa Marthias

I personally had a really great experience taking my grad photos at Evangelos. They really made sure to work with me in ensuring that the photos were turning out as I'd hoped, and they had a super fast turnaround time when getting the photos back to me. In my opinion they also have pretty good deals for their grad photos. I've dealt with many photographers before and have done professional photography myself, and typically studios are a lot less affordable than Evangelos. Because of these reasons I'd definitely recommend taking your photos with Evangelos!

Vanessa Vendrasco-Aere

I was forced to come here for my Graduation photos through UBC...Not the best professional photos I have gotten. The photoshoot process was rushed and the photos weren't amazing. They would take one photo of each pose regardless how that photo looked, and you don't get to see the images as they are taking them unless you specifically ask. I had NO communication from the company concerning my order once placed, not even a confirmation email. I called after the 5 weeks they ask you to wait to check the status of my order, just to be told to wait another week and they I will be emailed when they are ready. Sure enough, 9 weeks later and I still had no communication from them. It took a firm email to get any kind of response where I was told they had been waiting all this time! Once I received the photos it just confirmed what I came to expect, DEFINITELY not the best professional photos I have had done. Honestly, I have an amateur photographer friend who has taken WAY better photos of me for special events and actually take the time and care to properly edit it them. Overall, not a great experience. Would not recommend.

Went here to get my graduation photos taken and I have to say, they’re extremely well set up! Great photo quality and a plethora of options. Staff were so nice and really helpful, absolutely made my day chatting with them! Left one star out just because of the pricing model- it’s absolutely quite expensive, which is a shame. Aside from the price factor, you can count on getting a great photo taken here!

The owner was very rude, bad quality photos for a robbery price, would not recommend.

Best service in the business! The photographers were professional and knowledgeable when it came to getting the best shot possible. Staff were welcoming and amazing. UBC... why. Just... why?! The only reason I went in to get my photos done was to be able to be on the graduation composite. The set up is pretty sketchy. For the group photo, only expect a white background. Photographers are a hit or miss. They're generally all nice people, but as for pose suggestions (or lack thereof)... possibly a different story. Would probably benefit from going in knowing exactly what you want, because what they tell you to do might be.. uhhh............... weird looking, to put things nicely. Appointment started 30 minutes late. Good luck getting anything addressed or fixed after you see your watermarked photos because they'll just bring up the fact that your session was "complimentary" and take zero responsibility for how ugly the photos turned out (yes, I've tried and emailed. and yes, I, a pretty much noob fixed the photos myself with a photo editor, no thanks to them.). Just make sure you read the fine print on all the "deals" they give you and realize that they really aren't here to do you any favours. I would pay to have a better experience and better photos. And well, dunno if they've changed the receptionist since, but she's plenty nice enough for me. It's just the managers (or whoever is replying to customer complaints) that irks me. The prices are just horrid with any studio anyway. But I'd prefer Artona - they at least have nicer chairs/backgrounds for the group photos, for example.

A criminal organization in the business of extorting students with exorborantly high rates and unreasonable policies. And that is giving them a compliment. It's hard to believe that such organizations still exist in the 21st century, but low and behold Evangelos is one of them. This company is not in the business of serving their customers, but rather relying on fixed contracts with UBC and milking students pockets. Firstly, they require all UBC students to pay a $45 cash deposit in person and to pick up that cash deposit once again, in person. Super inconvenient and not customer friendly at all. While I am cognizant of their reciept policy, I do find it hard to believe that they can make no concessions to accepting proof of photos from their internal system. I unfortunately lost my receipt, but had proof of photography through my login credentials and online portal. They said they could conduct a 35 dollar search fee to spend 1-2 hours to search through their records to find my receipt. Unless they are totally computer inept, I don't believe typing my first and last name would require 1-2 hours and $35 worth of their time. As I said, they don't exist to really serve their customers well. Their whole business strategy revolves around imposing inconvenient, restrictive policies that ultimately serve their bottom line instead of customer appreciation. Their staff are well versed, and frankly brainwashed, in defending the company policies and procedures and their owner is likely to respond in the same defence below. Their common tropes/lines of defence are the following: - They match the policies of other photography studios in the area. Not true. - They charge reasonable prices. Not true. - They impose reasonable policies that are common of the industry. Once again not true. Anyways, refrain from doing business with these crooks. Probably not worth your time or your money.

Extremely nice people who pay great attention to photo shoots. Mostly used for graduation sets, the equipment is decent and photo quality is high. My only qualm would be the slightly steep pricing, but that's not uncommon for the neighbourhood it is in.

From individual to huge group shots, our UBC organisation has been working with Evangelos for years now. The photos are always of high quality, and the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly! RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND EXTORTIONST PRICES. I agree with the other reviews on this post. I came to pick up my daughter's UBC grad photo today. The lady at the counter was very unfriendly as the other reviews had mentioned. The framed photo plus print that I received, after paying an extortionist amount of money, came in a dirty dusty finger marked frame and glass. I believe that after paying 180 CAD the frame should at the very least be cleaned. I mentioned this to the grumpy lady at the front desk and her reply was that "frames come dusty and that should be expected". Condescending attitude is not the way to do business. Since this photography studio seems to have a monopoly on UBC grad photos they adopt a surley attitude and gouge students on the prices. Easily ten times the price you would pay anywhere else. Would never use this place for my personal photos.

They only take one picture per background so if you blink or your smile is weird you are stuck with that photo. To purchase 3 photos costs $230! 3 photos! To take 20 photos of me and only purchase 3 cost 3x as much as my engagement photos which took 3 hours and we got 1000 photos. Absolutely rediculous.

Photographers here are quite kind, meticulous, and friendly

Was in a rush to get passport-grade photos done for a job interview the next day, as the first location I selected was unexpectedly closed. I had a $10 budget and was expecting to get at least six photos, and ended up spending twice that for just two. When quoted a price it was $16.99 + tax for two photos, and an additional $12.99 for each set of copies - the total would have been around $75. Jeez, anyone would think photo paper and ink prices had gone through the roof! I don't think I'll use this location again - but the photographer and staff were mostly friendly and helpful. Okay if you're not on a tight budget, but I am.

Tiffany Li

Had to wait over an hour for an appointment made well in advance with no explanation. The color balance was completely off which made my ridiculously expensive photos look like I was a boiled lobster. The front desk staff was unfriendly and very rude when I asked questions. The photographers, though extremely friendly seemed understaffed and overworked. Despite their efforts, the pictures turned out unflattering. The website used to order the products was buggy and did not seem secure. Very poor experience overall and I would never reccomend anyone, especially student who was decent once-in-a-lifetime photos to go there.

I had a good session and didn't mind their guidance through the session. Some photos turned out pretty nicely despite the glare on my glasses. The only issue I have is when the photos became available, it only showed 8 photos of me in the graduation attire. I remember I took many more pictures that day with much more variety and was interested in ordering them. I've called several times but no one picked up and emailed and I'm still waiting for a reply about this matter. Edit: got a reply from their email and they fixed the issue, all is well

Pretty scammy business, they require you to pay large amounts of money for digital copies of your own grad photos from a session that is already paid for by the University. Their pricing isn't very customer-friendly either, since you can either buy groups of 5 or 10 digital photos for an exorbitant price, or none at all. Evangelos, please be better. All the negative reviews on this page are evidence that something needs to change.

Jonathan Lee

The service was awful. They are stealing your money. 500 dollars for one photo.

Processing time for the photos was given to me as 6 weeks and I have been waiting for about 3+ months and my photos haven't yet shipped to me. I paid a hefty amount for these pictures, and I am quite unsatisfied with their punctuality. However, photo quality and editing was done well in the pictures I received by mail. I just wish their pricing was abit more reasonable - we are students after all!

paul valerio

Somehow manages to turn what should be a celebratory moment for which I’m willing to pay top dollar into a miserable, aggravating experience. Mediocre quality photos at exorbitant prices, coupled with a rude and vindictive approach to service and product packaging. There isn’t a choice even close to what I want to buy, they refuse to consider any changes, so I’m forced to over-pay for what I don’t want. I expect to pay a premium for professional photography. I’ve run a photo business before. I’ve bought all kinds of graduation photos over the years. There’s really no excuse for this. The only explanation I can see for their still being in business is the captive business channel they have via UBC’s recommendation. I have asked the University that they remove them from their recommended list. This business does not meet the standards I expect from UBC.

Booked a family photo session here and had a great time! The photographers working were extremely nice, they went the extra mile in catering to what we were looking for, and actually took the time to make everyone looking nice and natural rather than awkward!! I'm so happy with the results and will be recommending to others.

Probably the friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with in my entire life. Very accommodating, talented photographers, wicked fast, and reasonable prices. The final photos I received after touch-ups were amazing--best I've ever had! My mother loved the photos too. My only complaint was they didn't...SIKE. THEY WERE PERFECT.

Our entire family was there a few months back to get my son's grad photos done. The photos turned out professionally done and great touch up although its a bit pricy but we don't have a choice. However, the photographer we had seemed to be rushing through her job. As we don't go to studio often so we were a bit shy with posing. The photographer was quite impatient and commented that ' I know I know.......you Asian families are like strangers to each other and as if you don't know each other. Please stand closer......." Not a very pleasant comment. Owners please take note. Thank you.

I had a very pleasant and smooth grad photo session! The photographers were very kind and patient, as well as accommodating and open to any suggestions for photo ideas. Extra thanks to them for helping me adjust my hair to ensure I looked my best.

Very rude front desk. Photographers are lovely though.

Such a great experience, I brought my cat with me and the photographs came up with a range of unique and creative poses which turned out beautifully. I felt comfortable and well instructed during my own session, which made the whole experience enjoyable, I highly recommend coming here for your grad photos ????,

Seriously? This place is probably the most unprofessional business I've ever witnessed. I received my grad photo with them through UBC. We They make us pay beforehand for these "works of art" to commemorate our achievements They got my name wrong, faculty wrong, department wrong, minor wrong, and they even managed to spell department as "Dpartment" like I cannot stress enough how terrible this business is. On another note, I went there and no where was it listed by email completion, order confirmation, on their website, or on google that the pick up time is between 10-3. THE TIME WASN'T EVEN ON THEIR DOOR! They are listed as open weekdays 9-6 and weekends 9-5. I show up and this lady is giving me sass about their pickup hours. If somebody was commissioned to paint a mural on Town Hall saying Vancouver and spelled it "Vanouver" they'll redo it. Edit: Although my previously bad experience, I ended up contacting them via email and they quickly fixed my order and sent me brand new photos through the mail free of charge.

Kind photographers, but really janky-looking studio. They make it seem like you have to pay the deposit but that isn't necessarily true. Watermark is placed on face. Artona is much better, but we didn't get a choice.

Insanely expensive prices for university students, especially during a pandemic. Not worth it at all.

I was sent there from UBC, and after reading the reviews I was worried. However, my experience was great; I think they are trying to improve. Great people, very kind, took their time, and really made sure I looked good in all photos- my hair kept on getting in my eyes, so they fixed it before every single shot, and they took a ton of photos! Instead of being there for 30min (usual session), I was there for an hour. Did a whole bunch of poses. I was very impressed with the people and place. Couldn't have been better! If there were more stars, I'd give them all :) Would definitely come back.

Was doubting this place at first due to all negative reviews. But my experience here was pretty decent. Yes their policies are a bit convoluted, with the deposit for example. But they do make things clear from the get go. My photo session was quick (25 minutes), and we got 25 different poses. Employees were friendly and experienced. The free parking was also a perk.

TL;DR: DO NOT take your graduation photos here. Rude and condescending staff, pictures are of poor quality, and the price is absolutely ridiculous. Avoid at all costs, and try to find a different studio. I never leave reviews, but this business really forced me to go through the trouble just to warn others of this studio. First of all, like many others have said before me, their pricing and packages for graduation photos is ludicrous. Prices are not displayed until you view them online, and then they hit you with extremely overpriced photos with underwhelming quality. The packages are poor as well - very little selection. The worst part was the service. We had a dispute when returning the receipt to get back our cash deposit, as it was only specified to "bring the receipt" in order to get our refund - however it doesn't specify exactly who needs to come and return it. This is seemingly very minor (and it is), so my family went to collect the deposit. Only after, do the staff tell them that *I* needed to show up and collect it, and so in a second trip out of our way, my family and I do. I'm met with the girl at the reception with a condescending tone explaining how I signed the receipt so I should be the one to show up. The only problem is it doesn't state the person who signed the receipt must show up - explicitly stating this is always better than implicit assumption. So we argue this point, and we are met with rude attitudes and again, more condescendence. The photographer even comes out and says "we are creating trouble for ourselves". What kind of customer service is this? It felt like he was blaming *US* for their inaccurate instructions. This is ridiculous - this business doesn't even respect its customers. As we walked out, the girl at the reception was quick to say "don't come back!" behind our backs. Is this what good customer service is like? Complete disrespect.

Natalie Hamilton

Very helpful staff, made sure our group photo was perfect!

This place is a SCAM!!! The receptionist is super dull and looks as if someone’s forcing her to work there. Super overpriced, $300 for 2 pics are u kidding me?? My iPhone takes better pictures! I paid $45 for the deposit however after seeing how bad their work was I went back to their cave to get my $45 back. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my hard copy but I did have a digital copy of the receipt with my name and order ID on it. But the receptionist denied refunding me back despite me showing them my ID. I don’t know why UBC is working with them. Pretty sure we got more talented students on campus who would be willing to take much better pictures for a lot less!! Hope you are having a good time with your only cash payments while avoiding tax. Scam customers and the government, many many applauds!!

Very disappointed. Cash only already shows what kind of business this is. The pricing is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that students already paid so much for tuition fees and graudate only once but they want to use that as their advantage. Please UBC, change contracts to other business so that the price is more competitive. And even with all these reviews, the fact that they will never admit their fault is absolutely sad. All they will say, "students have no obligation to buy photos from us" but what kind of students do not want to buy graduation photos when they worked so hard to graduate.

Audrey T

Had to take graduation photos here - backdrops are a little outdated. The changing rooms are also the size of a closet.

This review relates to the specific details of my son graduating April 2019. I have recently discovered that this company has a non- refundable deposit of 45.00 for grad photos. The date of the photo session is 4.5 months before graduation. The deposit given to the photographer on picture day that will be applied to the photos must be ordered within 60 days from the date of the photo session. This company has the email address of the graduates, but provides no reminder to the students that their 60 days are about to expire. What if the student is not successful completing their 4th year, and now they have Grad photos that they had to buy before graduation due to the deposit policy? These students are busy in their final year of University/College, so the time limit seems to add additional stress to these students final year. Even if the student orders the pictures after the 60 days, the deposit is lost and the company will not apply the deposit to the pictures ordered. It would make sense that the order policy be extended until 30 days after graduation. Or, they could hold the photo sessions closer to the graduation date -ie. 60 days before graduation.

mona ghiam

Very unprofessional and rude. I went in to order my graduation photos and I did not want to purchase a package. instead, I wanted to buy individual photos with different poses. The lady at the front desk said that she cannot do this and I have to buy a package to be able to add poses, and then she said " you can order if you want or not" in a very rude tone !!! She could have said: unfortunately I cannot provide that service for you and I am sorry but you have to purchase a package to add more poses. but instead she said you can either order if you want or not. would never ever order here if it wasn't my graduation photos.

Rachel Rozelle

I got my graduation pictures done here. They were very professional and fast, and made me feel comfortable in a new environment. The pictures turned out extremely well, which is almost unfortunate, because now I want to buy all of them. They have exclusive use of UBC robes and such, and so they can charge a premium to students looking to get graduation pictures done. Other photography studios do not have access to the UBC robes, and the actual robes that the graduates wear only can be used for a few hours on the day of their graduation ceremony, making formal pictures almost impossible.

B L

They charge insane prices with a lot of policies and requirements. Pictures are definitely not worth the price. They even blur your sample pictures in addition to watermarks which makes it super hard to determine how you actually look. Photographers were nice but not very experienced.

Generation of UBC graduates can attest that this place is the worst. In fact, having to go through this demonic photo studio, and cough up the atrocious prices to this studio is the most unpleasant and soul crushing fact of graduating from UBC. The photographs are done by outdated cameras, photographers that are inexperienced, with backgrounds fresh out of 80s. For the prices these people charge, you could get the most sought after photographers in Vancouver to come to your home. Paying a cent for this service in order to get a badly done and horridly touched up graduation photo is more painful than cutting up my right hand and feeding it to rabid dogs.

Charlotte Yu

Horrible value for money as the cheapest print you can order is 1 4x5 inch photo for 35.99 and don't forget the 9.99 handling fee. The price wouldn't be an issue if the photos were of quality...unfortunately over half of my poses had crooked backgrounds, my eyes were half closed or there were shadows because the lighting was off. Take your composite photo and get your deposit back within the 60 days and spend your money somewhere else.

Navjot S

They overdid the airbrushing and literally made my mouth smaller so now the photo looks disproportionate. Luckily I only I bought one photo. The backgrounds were ugly and the lighting was terrible. I'd give it 0 stars if I could.

Honestly, very disappointed. The staff seemed inexperienced and didn't give me any pointers or recommendations during the photoshoot. Also, they made me hold props in almost every photo (like cheesy flowers) and the backgrounds of the photos look terrible (one looks like i'm in Rome and another one has mist in the background). Overall, bad experience and a waste of money.

susan j

This place is mediocre at best. The staff are inexperienced and the owner is rude and stuck-up. I had to get my grad pictures done here and they turned out looking very unprofessionally done. During the shoot they rush you along and don't allow you to review the pictures to retake them if it wasn't nice. I ended up with ones where you can see my jeans peaking out from under the gown, among other issues. They also uploaded other people's pictures into the file that was only supposed to have my photos. Poor quality and service, if you can, take your money and go elsewhere to get your photos taken. I have friends who are amateur photographers that take better pictures than this place.

Gladys Chung

John Lloyd

The passport photos are great! A lot of places just do these with a regular flash camera, with dismal results. Evangelos takes good care with the lighting, and lets you choose from a few pictures, and so the final result looks as good as possible, especially considering "the no smiles allowed" rule.

I normally never write reviews but the receptionist was so rude to me when I was placing my order. I ordered my photos to be mailed to me and all was well until I got a call saying that my photos were ready for pickup. So I called Evangelos and the receptionist kept telling me I was wrong and needed to pay more attention when placing my order. She was very sarcastic and basically shamed me for thinking I ordered my photos to be shipped. She finally opened the order file to see that I did purchase shipping. Its so frustrating because she could have just looked up the file first before making several accusations.

I would recommend avoiding the use of this business's services at all costs. It is clear that the University of British Columbia has a contract with the company and consequently, they no longer feel the need to provide competitive pricing and services. My experience with the company took place this past year, where I went to Evangelos to obtain my graduation photos. The staff made me wait well beyond my appointment time without even an apology; showing great disrespect for the clients which are paramount to its business. All of the staff employed to take the photos were highly inexperienced students, which showed during the session. They spent no longer than 8 minutes on my photos, used the wrong gown for my masters degree despite being told at the beginning of the session, and charged an absurd amount for their less than satisfactory services. During my undergraduate at the University of Alberta, our department had a professional photographer with nearly 30 years of experience, gave us a fun and enjoyable session, made our booking period longer than required to ensure that we were satisfied with the photos, and did it all for a much more reasonable price than Evangelos. After placing a multi-hundred dollar order with Evangelos for my graduation photos, I simply asked the company if they could email me an electronic low quality, unedited thumbnail of a funny picture I took to post on my instagram. After waiting 2 WEEKS for them to respond, they informed me that I would have to buy their $100+ photo package if I wanted the picture. Once again, this reinforces my point that the company has far less than adequate customer service. It is clear that the company has become too "cozy" in their contract with the University, and only cares about money rather than customer satisfaction. There are numerous cheaper and far better companies in the Vancouver area, and I encourage everyone to avoid this company at all cost; after all, this is one of the biggest moments in your life, don't let a company like Evangelos negatively impact it in an way.

Melinda McCarter

Horrible customer service! I’ve been trying to reach them for 2 weeks now. Their operation times are wrong too. They close whenever they want and never reply to my emails.

Herman X

The photographers were super nice and friendly. The place seemed clean and safe which is great during COVID and I didn't have any problems or hassles with my experience.

Jasmine Kwan

This was an EvangeLoss for me. I was extremely disappointed and was shocked that UBC tells all their students to take their graduation photos here. While the photographers were friendly, they seemed very inexperienced. I took a series of graduation photos with them and noticed issues with several of them once they were uploaded online. Examples of this include strange hand positioning, a picture were I was blinking, and another photo where the background was convexed looked curved and strange (assuming this is due to the background curtain not being laid out properly). For the group pictures, they did not guide us at all and instead we were forced to position ourselves. This made it incredibly awkward, especially when we felt pressed for time and the photographer had no suggestions for what types of pictures we could do. Once uploaded, I noticed obvious gaps between two of my friends, and another picture where my friend's face was partially covered in shadows due to the photographer not having positioned her well. We paid for our digital group pictures on the spot (we decided to buy 2 groups photos in order to get the discounted price). They told me they would email me once the pictures were ready to be delivered, and this did not happen. Instead, I had to email them a few weeks later to ask where the pictures went. Last thing -- pictures are truly very expensive, especially for the level of service and photography skill from this company. Unfortunate! Evangelos? More like Evangenope!

My photos came with the bookshelf in the background's shelves curved which i thought was distortion but then was informed that no that's just how their bookshelves are as they have been in use for a long time. Maybe using a green screen for that background would be better then? Photographers were all friendly, made me feel comfortable and did a decent job. However the lady at the front was a bit rude and the prices are expensive esp for digital copies. They say retouching/processing photos is included when you order photos and then at the very end of checkout they add a $9.99 processing and handling fee even if you selected in-person pick up for photos. The website/checkout process is of bad quality as well. your deposit if taking graduation photos expires after 60 days even if you still want to place an order no exceptions. In addition to this my mom went to pick up the photos for me as I have a full time job and she told me the front desk lady was rude to her.
