Great place amazing staff, was trying to figure out what was faulty about my microphone setup on my gopro hero 8, and through testing it six ways from sunday on separate cameras and mic's in store, they determined it was the microphone itself, that I had bought on amazon. Being that my trip is tomorrow I purchased a replacement in store. We're always going to need retail! Update 2021, I have used this store and their site for many different things now, and I have to say, they blow the competition out of the water, the selection of quality equipment is second to none, and the prices are very reasonable, often cheaper than Amazon, and its really nice having a retail store nearby for those times when you bought an audio recorder online but didn't realize that it only takes small 32 gb cards and need one TODAY kinda thing.

Great quality products but the staff isn’t the most enthusiastic and friendly. You have to know what you’re looking for but the staff is there to answer questions. This is a huge store and very reputable but the location is horrible for parking, street parking is your only option. They have a “leasing” option available but I’m still not 100% clear on how it works.

There are only 2 or 3 brick and mortar professional photography stores in Ottawa. Vistek is definitely the big boy on the block and is very stocked for all levels of photo needs. The only mistake made when shopping there was that the sales rep handed me the wrong printer cartridge. I'll head back and see if they swap it and adjust this post accordingly. He happily swapped it for me :) Upped my rating

I needed to clean the sensor on my D7200. I called around to a couple places in town, and based on my experience on the phone, I decided to go to Vistek at 499 bank Street at Argyle. When I confirmed that I would bring my camera in to Vistek, the person on the phone volunteered the name of the individual who would be doing the work. That was nice, because already, I knew who to ask for. When I entered the store from the side door on Argyle, there was someone working close by so I mentioned to him i was there to see 'Nick'. Without hesitation, and with a nice demeanor, he got up and walked me over and introduced me to Nick. I had a similarly very welcoming, low key, inviting and polite experience with Nick, and felt confident in leaving my camera there. As I was writing this review, I received a call that my camera was ready! Wow! So fast. (When I left it, I was asked 'when' I needed it back. I was prepared to wait until the next morning, but I mentioned that it would be even better to get it back 'today', and I did not REALLY expect that to happen. But it did.) When I went to pick up my camera, I was greeted with the same courteousness, warmth and professionalism by Nick. This was a totally pleasant experience. I like that Vistek sells everything AND offers camera cleaning service, and more. I don't know who is responsible for 'customer service', but I think theirs should be shared widely to other organizations. Imagine having such a pleasant experience everywhere!!! Thank you Nick and the other people: the gentleman at the side door, and the person who answered the phone when I originally called. You all made me feel welcome and 'invited'. And kudos to the hiring individual. What a great job having 'just the right people'. This must be a reflection of the management of the organization...it always is, in my experience. Of course I want to make THIS MY 'go to' camera store, and I will!

I went to vistek Ottawa store, talked with one their sales rep regarding buying or renting camera, had good initial experience but 3rd day it was horrible, when I was there to return or see options for same, fainted in the store, they called para medical, never had such an experience... they put way to much pressure which resulted in that, sales guy(not giving his name) pushed so hard for sales and he was very strongly insisted to keep something which I didn't wanted. Though, telling him multiple times. There was one cust. rep mid age countinously staring, when this incident happened even lady doctor from para med was continously telling her colleagues that one associate is staring. However, store manager Roger didn't had courtesy to come out or to ask about or just to inspect what happened. Nobody treats another human like that forget about customer (that will be out of his league). Worst service by first management and then staff, I have worked in retail, can't imagine service like that... rep who was taking to me only cared to ask, however that happened because of him, though I was being nice to him rather than being brutal. He was still pushing further for sales. I came out of the store gave back half of the stuff, still my money is with them and they are asking restocking fees seriously after everything happened!! I don't want camera from such a store and I earlier bought extended service, would not imagine to go back and forth for same, because of vibes of store. I called in customer service lady, she told me that she will help, I called again then she told me to talk with Ottawa store, which I did with manager, Roger who has minus courtesy to talk with a human and then customer, again asked for 10% restocking fees but didn't bother to ask how m I, and in fact he started like I don't know your medical history when I reminded about incident, if he's asking about restocking then I have full rights to ask refund for my store injury (legally I am suppose to ask however, I didn't wanted to go on that path so I didn't started that). Manager must learn how to treat person and then customer service, I would buy camera from Henry store rather than vistek, I was not going to put review but the way Roger talked with me on phone 2 days ago, I decided to do it, still my money is with them. Sales rep who was helping me is knowledgeable and offered good service initially however, he was pushing way beyond for sales and policies also, didn't like return policy or extended service plan. Returning reason was, had photoshoot but pictures didn't came out well the way it should, was not happy with camera which is worth of $2000 plus service of store especially management and policies, however rentals are better would recommend that only, rental young lady was nice, (forgot her name) they should learn from her. Giving 1.5 star for sales rep's initial help and knowledge and rental service. THE REASON OF REVIEW IS, I UNDERSTAND POLICIES BUT HUMAN COMES AHEAD OF MONEY, VISTEK OTTAWA SHOULD UNDERSTAND VERY CLEARLY, ALSO HOPING THAT THEY WILL IMPROVE IN CUSTOMER SERVICES..

Disappointing experience really. I went in ready to spend about $5,000 on a lens and a new tripod. When entering the store, I smiled at the three sales associates standing there and said good morning. Not a single one smiled or said good morning in return. They just continued typing away on their keyboards. I then went to a fourth associate to inquire about the stock of an item, but he was chatting away with a friend. He looked at me as if I was interrupting then simply said they didn't have it in stock. No offer to check stock of other stores, no offer to order it online. And by the way, it's an item listed on their website. If you're a working professional like myself or an amateur I'd give this store a miss, they don't deserve your business if they treat customers this way. I don't know if I was judged based on the way I looked or what, but this behaviour by sales associates is unacceptable to professionals and amateurs looking to invest significant money in their gear. Management should conduct a serious overhaul.

If there was a sixth star in the Google reviews, I'd give it to Mark Dalpé who helped us from complete newbie to a seamless online video streaming solution (4500$ excluding speaker, mic and TV) for our brand new business. He also had the constraints of Covid to deliver a in-stock only solution. Do not go anywhere else! You get double the worth for every penny invested through him!

I went in with little knowledge to rent a camera for video purposes. I had specific criteria which I shared with the person assisting me; easy to use, works well in low light, 4k, but the most important of which was that it would be able to continuously record for 3 or more hours. On their advice I bought a memory card for 101.69$ and rented a GH5 with f2.8 lens. Unfortunately I came to realize that evening, when the store was closed, that the camera would not be able to continuously record for more than 2 hours as this camera did not come with an AC adapter. When I complained about that upon returning the camera (to a different person) I was told I should have rented a Sony... Of course that would have been nice to know in the first place when I mentioned my criteria for the rental. That's not what I'd call an empathetic response. I'm sure it was an honest mistake but I'm not happy that I had to spend 186.45$ on something that didn't fit my criteria. Even worse is that I only got about 40 minutes of footage for an event that was over 2 hours long because the battery for the camera was not fully charged as I didn't realize that would be a necessity until it was too late. I'm particularly annoyed as I was not able to capture video for an event that will never happen again and cost me hundreds of dollars to put on and countless hours to organize.

I made the switch to digital last year but previous to that they ordered me film as I needed it. And don't for get about rentals - they are a good source for many things. Purchased a refurbished Canon d6 mark 3 camera along with a new sigma lens. Went in originally for advice on purchasing something privately online. They had the same model just recently traded in at the same price however backed with a warranty and thoroughly checked out. Salesmen were never pushy or forceful. Just laid out the information for us to make a good decision. Of course they are a business however with a lot of the staff being photographers themselves, it feels as if they have the customers best interest at heart.

Vistek would not accept the return. Cable cost $50.99 cdn. Jerk stopper $24.99. Sent two emails to request return authorization and never received the courtesy of a reply. Will never deal with Vistek by mail or in person, again. Total cost to me for the mistake was $95.53 (inc. shipping of $15.00 from Toronto to Montreal). Terrible customer (non) service.

Each time I have been to Vistek, I had a positive experience. First and foremost, the staff is welcoming and helpful; always ready to answer questions. I never felt inadequate, belittled or too amateur. They have been very fair with me when I traded photographic material, giving me more than the store where I had purchased it had offered. Vistek's customer-centric approach is precious and very-well appreciated. Moreover, there is a number of staff who speaks French, an asset while being located in Ottawa.

My first camera was in 1964, a Kodak Instamatic 100, my second camera, in the late 1970s, a Canon AE1 plus multiple lenses, my “third” camera, in the mid 2000s, the families’ Canon PowerShot, and going forward, my “fourth” camera, various iterations of a camera phone. I wanted something better. Now semi -retired, I wanted to play again. Landscape, nature, close-up & macro, abstract, & street. I wanted to experiment, shoot in all conditions and challenge my artistic abilities. I wanted to build a kit to do whatever I wanted to do. I've shopped around. There is no better place to be than Ottawa’s Vistek store on Bank. There I met Mark Dalpe. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and took the time to help me select the tools I wanted. He went beyond expectations. In fact all the staff are great there. Need I say more.

If I could give lower than a 1 star I would. I walked in for the first time to a nice looking store and friendly looking staff. An older gentlemen was serving another guy as I waited. When my turn came, he barely answered my questions or said a word to me. He was cold and acted as though he wanted me to leave the store even though I was spending 6k+ on camera's. As he was working on my order, I walk over to the lights section at the back of the store to ask about a light fixture and the attendant begins yelling the answers from behind the till, I try to show him the light fixture I am referring to and begin to approach him. Then he yells at me to stay away from him. Immediately I become self conscious that I'm a black man. I've literally never felt so humiliated. At this point I began to get upset. Why am I giving my business to receive such a horrid customer service. I have no idea where all these good reviews are coming from but I would never go back there.

Excellent place to buy cameras, lenses, camera accessories, scanners, printers, etc. I traded in a lens for another one and the staff were very helpful and gave me a great price for my trade in.

As someone in the commercial video industry, I often need high-end items to compliment the small amount of gear I take with me on trips. I was able to get the gear I needed requested, and pick-up plans solidified with one simple phone call. Very helpful staff at the Ottawa location, and I was in-and-out today (New Year's Eve) in very little time. The best part is easily that they offer discounts on multi-day rentals during the holidays; for example, pick up on December 20th, and return on January 3rd, and pay for only 2 days. The one small complaint would be the lack of depth in the rental inventory - but this is understandable as there aren't as many people looking for high-end video gear to rent in Ottawa, as compare to Toronto or Vancouver.

Vistek on Bank street in Ottawa is my photography store of choice. The staff is always courteous and helpful, from the moment you walk in the door. If you meet the store manager, Roger, it becomes obvious why the atmosphere is the way it is. Roger is organized, courteous, welcoming, extremely pleasant and equally helpful; it seems contagious and is reflected in your experience with all the staff. If you need your camera sensor cleaned, Nick is a very pleasant professional with a genuine smile that does impeccable work. Glen Lastiwka is my sales representative of choice; he is a very good listener and offers excellent educated advice. Glen has a wealth of information. If you are interested in photography, Glen will recommend the right equipment and how to use it to its full potential. Given my experience with the competition, I very strongly recommend that you consult Glen before your next purchase. Vistek is my favourite all-purpose photography equipment store in Ottawa. The store is bright, well-stocked and organized, and conveniently located with free parking in the side yard. Roger Goguen, the manager, has created a friendly atmosphere that is customer-oriented. From the moment you step into the store, you feel welcomed. The staff are versatile and will take the time to figure out what suits you best -- and they will bend over backwards to get it to you quickly if it's not in stock. Glen Lastiwka has provided me invaluable advice for several years as I transitioned from Nikon to Fuji. If he suggests you buy their protection plan: do it! That protection plan is the best. I dropped my camera in water recently and it is being replaced with a brand new one without any hassles. The rentals are easy and if you plan a bit ahead you should be able to pick up what you need from Mark. I highly recommend making this your photo store.

go to Henry's 2 minutes down the road... the service at vistek is bad, they are all older gentlemen that work there, therefore i am treated poorly the few times i have been there because i am a young guy. Do not in any way trust their website stock levels this is false. I once was inquiring about a camera that could do 4k and slow motion and was laughed at and told to leave because they had nothing in my budget.... overall really bad experience, choose henry's.. much better!
