YES, absolutely, 5 STARS, count them, FIVE! Well, I had a very unrewarding experience! BUT, don't stop reading. Rhiannon went out of her way to measure what was in stock, contact manufacturers and try to find a case cover for my somewhat less than standard size viola case. While this did not end well (nothing out there fits, about which I will restrain myself from having fits ... :-) ... ) - *sigh* HOWEVER, Rhiannon gets an A+ with all the merits that can possibly accompany that. I am just starting out learning fiddle as a recently-retired adult. As anyone in this position will know, the options for selecting a suitable instrument are quite endless, made tougher by not being really able to try one out because... well because I don't play one! I was doing a of of reading on-line and went to a couple of retail stores but not really settling on any firm direction. "I reached out to Rhiannon by email after reading through her website and all the accolades from previous customers. To my surprise, she wrote back with a VERY lengthy and informative email answering all my various questions and more. We corresponded a bit further clarifying some points, before I made arrangements to visit her studio in Kamloops and have a look and listen to a few violins in my price range. She invited me to her home on a Sunday, where she spent over two hours with me answering questions, demonstrating various models and teaching me basic techniques for setting up the violin, tuning, bow selection, etc. "I ended up selecting her Beliissima Agnella model. I've had it for a week now and I am confident I made the right choice. But mostly, I would like to thank Rhiannon for all her time and patience with a total beginner. I felt she really wanted me to have an instrument that would work for me and I was very comfortable purchasing from her. I would definitely recommend fiddleheads.ca to anyone in a similar situation

I recently purchased a very fine Pawel Migiel violin from Fiddleheads. I had been feeling that the violin that I was playing on was limiting me both technically and interpretively. You reach a point with your playing when you need something more. After playing on violins from Romania, Italy, China, and Bulgaria - I was at a loss. The $5000 range is nice, but really could not take me to where I wanted to be with violins . Still, I was limited to a range below $10,000. I had heard and read very good things about the Topa violins, but they were still a bit out of my price range. I learned that Pawel Migiel was a student of Topa in Zackopane Poland and was producing very fine violins that almost rivaled his masters. While his violins can fetch prices as high as $11,000, I saw that Fiddleheads had a very reasonably priced violin of his for less than $8,000. When I contacted Fiddleheads and spoke with its owner, Rhiannon, about the violin, I immediately knew that I had made the right decision. Rhiannon is the consummate professional! She is so willing to help and accommodate you with a trial period, that I really had nothing to lose. I had a couple of sleepless nights worrying about the violin’s journey to the US, but after receiving the violin and seeing the way it was packaged and shipped I knew my worries were all for naught. I highly recommend this shop and its thoroughly knowledgeable proprietor. Rhiannon answered all of my questions about the violin and she just knew that it was the right fit for me. While I received the violin under her two week trial period, I made this violin my own after only a couple of hours of playing it. This is truly the violin of my dreams - a marvelously rich tone, dark and broad in the low register, and brilliant and soaring in the high register. It’s hard to believe that this is a brand new instrument. The set up is meticulously done, and the instrument is a marvel to look at. It looks like a well preserved violin from the golden period of Cremona. I wholehearted and highly recommend Rhiannon and Fiddleheads to anyone in the market for a new violin.

Great place to buy a violin you won't be disappointed! I purchased my left handed vn-103 over 6 months ago I waited to review until I had a chance to play it and get a feel for it. I was constantly delighted with the generosity and patience Rhiannon showed throughout, going to great lengths to understand exactly what I wanted (even though, at times, it was a moving target!) and explaining the pros and cons of all the possibilities. I love my Zhu 909 violin! Its sound and projection are great, and I feel I can connect with my instrument so well. When I play it it vibrates against my chest and it feels like singing! Best experience i’ve had buying a product based off reviews. The owner is incredible, i needed a present for my daughters birthday and looked online for a left handed violin. E-mailed fiddleheads and was surprised how the owner was the one responding, she called me back and talked me thru options and what size would be best for her age. The main reason I ended up buying a violin from Rhiannon is that most of the other places I contacted had sales people who were readly to do a deal but had never played the violin. I was mainly interested in how the violin would sound. Every salesperson just assumed that the violin they sent me would sound great - but they had never played themselves. I know that just buying a violin didn't guarantee that the violin would sound good. Rhiannon assured me that she would play the violin and make sure it sounded up to her standards before mailing a violin to me. I ended up ordering a Sun violin ( which was in my budget ) and received a Sun VN-103. Rhiannon was helpful throughout the entire buying process. She also helped me keep the purchase within my budget. I am very pleased with the violin I received - it sounds and looks really good. I would recommend her to anyone interested in buying a violin. I knew that buying a decent violin from the start would be more cost effective that buying a "good" deal (less expensive) and getting a violin whose sound disappointed me - requiring me to buy a second. What an amazing and delightful experience, although I don't know which is the better part--my new VN-103 or my new long-distance violin friendship with Rhiannon. In need of an upgrade from my good but not high-level instrument I contacted Fiddleheads and several other places. Rhiannon responded and with her 360-degree violin knowledge, teaching and performance experience and easy-going manner quickly helped me figure out what I needed, which turned out to be the VN-103. While Rhiannon's service and keen interest in helping was fantastic, the smooth tone of the new instrument is definitely giving her a run for first-place in my rating. At first I thought it might be a higher level of instrument than I could use well. I am finding, though, that its quality actually is accelerating my learning and making every session with it a true joy. I'll also add that the shipping (with all-important safe packaging for the trip from western Canada) ensured that my violin arrived in perfect shape and that Rhiannon carefully helped me pick out a strong and safe travel case. I’m firmly in the “try before you buy” camp. Partially because I try to be a responsible consumer, but mostly because I have trust issues. So when I started looking into upgrading my violin, I knew an in home trial was the way to go. Unfortunately, my local options were lacking, and being Canadian is basically a disability in the world of online shopping. Enter Fiddleheads. I originally emailed Rhiannon asking about a couple of the Bellissima violins, but I described what I was looking for (mostly something that didn’t make both me and my roommate want to die when I was playing in upper positions), and she suggested I consider the Ming Jiang Zhu 907. She was incredibly helpful and accommodating, and even took the time to answer my emails and make arrangements when she was busy with a tour/things definitely more important than dealing with me. I ended up trialing the Valentina and the 907. I really wanted to like the Valentina better because I’m cheap, but after a week of personal deliberation and semi-consensual blind comparison tests on various friends and family, the 907 was the obvious winner. It just sounded clearer, warmer, and richer. The lovely colour and finish, and the little details, like how smoothly the pegs turn, are nothing to sneeze at either. I’ve had it for a while now, and it’s only gotten better with time. The projection has improved, and the sound really fills the room when I’m practicing by myself. In the upper registers, it sounds like it’s singing rather than straining like my old violin. It feels like this violin is a friend, and my old one was just a co-worker. Sorry for waxing poetic, but it really is a joy to play. She also was kind enough to let me trial a couple bows at the same time. I tried the Voxy Vogue and Astute, and eventually settled on the Astute. Mostly because I liked the balance and sound slightly better, but also because it’s pretty while still being carbon fibre, which was essential because I’m a klutz. At first it didn’t feel like much of an upgrade, but after playing with it exclusively, going back to my old bow feels like playing with a hacksaw. So much more smooth and precise. Getting the deluxe case might have been a bit much, but it’s worth the reduction in anxiety from knowing my violin is protected. It feels solid and it’s even got a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time (or a hygrometer and a thermometer depending on who you ask). To sum up, fantastic customer service, and I love this violin more than I love myself.

I was ready to upgrade to a better violin and began researching the options. I quickly settled on a Wojciech Topa Guarneri model. They are not easy to find but Rhiannon found what I was looking for, sold it to me at a great price and offered multiple options for processing the transaction. The purchase was a wonderful experience and I will not even consider shopping elsewhere in the future. I wish all my business dealings were as pleasant and positive as this one was.
