Studio way too small for family photoshoot

I used online invitation to the Christmas photoshoot, which was 45 bucks for 45 minutes (for 1 digital image and 5 printouts), found it very attractive, I bought it, (my bank reported me they took 50, well ok...) I wanted to make one cloth change, all done. It was 31 photos at the end (which should have costed me around 400 smth bucks) well, we decided to spend some more and buy 11 digitals+5 printouts, which was 280 smth , minus 45 I've paid + 35 taxes (!!!) In the end the photoshoot turned out to shrike my pocket a lot!!! Well, it was my fault to trust a photographer you see for the first time in your life, as they don't provide actual names of photographers and the works on Magenta's online site. Why do I have this sticky feeling I was robbed... May be you don't get what you've paid for? The photographer shoots a big piece of floor (what for? Do I need floor or decorations may be to stay in my memory?), can't find the mood and tempers of the family members, and what freaked me out was the lady was closer than 2 metres to us during the process of photoshoot(and of course we were without masks there), she was holding my daughter even on her arms to comfort her, to not to cry ... But! When we were choosing photos to stay with us, she was always repeating to pull up the mask on my nose even higher than the position was. (This place has poor ventilation, too too small for the amount of persons (I think that are allowed), of course I felt lack of oxygen!!) I'm adding some samples of the pics I was angry about (and for the price they don't make any retouch free(10$per pic!!!). (And for comparison- the samples of pics we did in Russia - it was 30 of them i think, EVERY picture was retouched, the photoshoot was 2 hours and we changed i think 5 or 6 backgrounds, with much more decorations) this is how it should be for the price...

I went to get passport photos, pretty standard fare. I was surprised at the $25 price tag for the photos but accepted that for the convenience. I took about 10 min. for us to be seen. Once the photos were complete, she informed us it would be about 15 min. We came back after 15 min. Where we then waited for an additional 15 min. Finally after exhausting my patience, I interrupted a consult with another client.to ask about the photos. It was only then that she printed the photos and did the work required. The quality of the photo was fine. The hour long total time for a passport photo when they were clearly not busy at all left a sour taste in my mouth considering the time constraints I made her aware of.

Would recommend. EDIT: my review was written with the promise by the staff I’d get a free print. They watched me write it to make sure I submitted it which made me really uncomfortable. I never got my print in the mail.

All my sessions at Magenta have been fairly similar. The staff is very professional, the photos are of high quality and the overall experience is relaxed and fun. The only negative, in my opinion, is the extensive upsell after the session when it is time to choose the photos that you like. The process is lengthy and frankly annoying when you know what you want and have little ones who are tired and need to go home. The time spent after the fact is too long. Other than that, the rest of the session is worth the money.

Very disappointed with the service we received. (Daaaamn, so not the only one with a bad experience, go scroll down) The prices are not at all what they announce, even if you give yourself the trouble to call to inquire details of the package before the session. Once the photos are taken, they charge 3 times the amount originally agreed and for just 10 photos, laughable. In addition, the few photos they send by email are deleted after only 30 days. + The little girl / woman works on a really big attitude problem. Anyway, just saying I'm sure there are a hundred or so other places. Give them a chance.

First off, let me start by saying I was offered to participate in a 250 CAD gift card drawing by giving 5 stars. I'll pass. I am really disappointed at their service: 1- Could barely find good photos (in some photos my face was covered with hair, a leg or hand was missing, setting chosen by the photographer had the exact colour of our dress and were almost blended in the background). Aren't photographers supposed to check for these things? or, they just push the bottun? 2- We were lied to about the price. We knew the service was relatively expensive. We originally liked 4 photos but pressured to choose more photos. We were told with extra 40 dollars, we can choose 6 more photos. At cash, we did not qualify for the promotion because I did not select 11th!!! photo. Honestly, choosing 10 photos was hard enough. The staff just told me I didn't get what she said and avoid any eye contact when I was explaining to her how she made the calculation. 3- You'll be pushed to select for printing, retouching, making a collage ( all the things you can do on your computer and order to get printed at Costco!). When I told the staff I can do all these things myself, she was mad at me. she asked me if we have ever been in a professional studio. No, we just drove from jungle to st. Laurent mall and found you. Honestly, I thought we would get some fabulous pictures with this price. I'll make sure to spread the words! I am very interested to see if Magneta can survive the competition or change their policies before being wiped out by better quality/cheaper/ more spacious studios.

I had family Christmas photos done at Magenta St-Laurent today for the third consecutive year. I found prices to be high, and higher than last year. $50/session which includes one digital image, additional images +$75. I asked the photographer if there were any existing promotions, that I was unaware of, that would be more benefecial to me (I wanted to purchase two images). Her answer was "no". However while I was reviewing our photo session images, and completing my purchase (which I could only do immediately after our session as the studio was on a "schedule") my husband was paying for Santa Claus mall photos where he received a Magenta coupon for $25/session (which was a better promotion than the $50/session that had applied to my purchase). When I found my husband's $25 Magenta coupon later during the day I called Magenta to apply it to my order however I was told that I could not use the $25 coupon given that I had already paid for my session, regardless that I had paid for my order only a few hours earlier. I did not want to change my order or images, I just wanted to apply the coupon that my husband had received that same day. I received a resounding "no". In addition, while completing my purchase the Magenta staff were aware that my husband and kids were in line to see Santa where he would receive the $25/session Magenta coupon. Again, prior to completing my purchase I specifically asked if other better Magenta promotions existed...the response was "no". I do not recommend Magenta at the St-Laurent mall, the prices were high and were not representative of the resulting photo session quality, in addition I feel that I have been victim of a deceitful money grab.

Two years ago in Quebec city at Galleries de la Capitale, I engaged Magenta photos for a session with my family and three daughters, and the results were stupendous. I was so pleased with the results and the photos have been a treasure ever since. This year I decided to do the same thing to update our family photos. I made the appointment and we went through the shoot. When my husband and I sat down to select our photos, we were floored. We were lucky enough to get 6 decent photos out of the 90+ shot, but more so the cost to get the digital copies of these 6 was 250$ on top of the 50$ fee. Where as two years earlier less than 200$ taxes in had us a dozen digital copies and numerous prints of our session. We begrudgingly agreed and selected our shots with the understanding we'd receive digital copies within the week to be able to print for the Holidays, and here we are more than that and no prints to be found and no answer at the location. 300$ gone, and literally nothing to show from it. We didn't even have a family shot from the efforts, but settled with single shots of our girls and one of them together. How is this pricing justified? I could have engaged a professional photographer to come to us for this cost, in the comfort of a setting of our choosing. Which I believe will be the course of action from here on out. I am so utterly and completely dismayed with the experience. And 5 days until Christmas and I don't have the prints I needed for the gifts we had planned. EDIT/ADDITION Finally received a phone call back from the location, and was told that despite being told both at the time of booking and at the appointment itself numerous times that the photos would be ready by the 17th, they won't be ready until the 22nd (Thursday). I have now officially wasted 300$ on gifts that won't be ready or even sent by the Holidays, as I was assured that they would be. But that's OK, because I could have paid an additional fee for a "rush" order, that was never mentioned when I had made it clear that the 17th was the latest we would be able to wait to receive them. All of this in a chipper tone reassuring me that I must have misunderstood...

I had my daughter's 2-year-old pics done here, and the person in charge of making my daughter laugh was AMAZING!! That being said, the quality of the pictures were not worth the price. We asked to have the photos match a previous photo shoot and they did not, and not all the photos were as crisp and clear as you would expect. With the price so high, and a 7-10 day wait for digital images I expect some touch-ups, sharpening, lightening of the images, but no. I had them printed at Costco and the technician said she had to lighten the images otherwise they would have printed too dark. For $60/image I expected a lot more.

We recently had family photos taken at Magenta Photo Studio (St-Laurent Centre location), as we had received a gift card from a friend. They were very accommodating about the gift card (as it had been mailed to our friend in the States and we only had a photo of the back). I found the staff to be helpful and fun. They all appear to enjoy their work, and their enthusiasm helped my 2 young children have a fun, positive time. The photographer and her assistant had a ton of creative suggestions. The hour photo session flew by, and we got a ton of great photos. I liked being able to review our photos right away, though it made for a long morning with small children. They definitely pushed a lot on selling prints and framing services - I opted for a package of digital photos instead. It was a lot of money, but the retouching was professionally done and the photos are excellent resolution. Having friends that are professional photographers, I feel the price was very fair for the quality and quantity. We will definitely be back! Also, I understand that they have some slots for pet photography, so we will be bringing our pooches the next time :)

Great photographer, nice digital results, if not the best in Ottawa. But boy oh boy their PRINT quality this year just fell off the chart. Ordered a few ornaments and little things last year and the year before, and it came out superb. This year my magnets and Christmas ornaments came out worse than a Walmart print taken with my 5 year old cell phone. Go do the photo session, pay for the digital copies (they are worth the money), but DO NOT order any print out from them. Don't trust me? Check out their on-display samples. You will NOT get that kind of quality.

This was the third time I have used this Magenta and my best experience yet. The changes of background made the photos more fun to mix and match and the smiles (although the product of a lot off tickling the children) really look natural. The only criticism is maybe have some water because its gets hot in the studio. After the day of the shoot I went back solo without the kids to view the photos which was really helpful. I have not received the prints yet but am hopeful they will be as great as the digi images I saw.

We were looking to re-create a pose for a baby photo of my 5month old (a family tradition). We had a coupon that brought the price way down and we did get a great shot that we are very happy with. We could have done without the scripted up-sale and pushing of bigger packages and products, since we were very clear that we were only after that one shot. I went there for a personal passport image. They asked me to use the mirror of washroom, not the mirrors of the store. I found out that a bunch of customers' belonging was left in the rooms with mirrors and thus they forced me to use the mirror in the washroom, instead of using mirror of the store. So if you go there, maybe you would end up in washroom. But, you can't believe that I figure out that washrooms are great places to take a picture, sure with a good lighting! :)

Poor service. I'm very much dissapointed. It was only two pictures that I wanted. I handed the letter that the immigration had sent me for the required pics that they need but the clerk assured me that they know what they're doing coz they've done it before. I trusted them of course as I am not a pro photographer. 6months have almost passed, I received a letter again from the immigration that the pictures weren't the right one. I've just thrown my money away from those pics that weren't worth the price. As fancy as Magenta sounds, I suggest you go to Shoppers mart for required government pics instead.

In Addition, our photoshoot was so rushed, we were not very happy with the outcome of the pictures even if we took the premium package.... So for my baby's 1st birthday we returned skeptical but we had a Great service with Avy. My baby was very fussy the day of the shoot & Avy was so patient. Will I return again, Yes!

We had a lovely photographer named Iman. She was super sweet and was very patient with my kids. She kept them focused but at the same time allowed them to have some fun. My oldest hates to get her picture taken but Iman got some great shots and my daughter had a blast doing it. She put on some good music to get us in the mood and she put us in some good poses yet she captured our real smiles and tender moments. I'm very pleased with my experience and would definitely recommend them.

I wish I could have given less than one star..... It was terrible. I needed passport photos. I showed up when the place was completely empty, the person (photographer) was talking to someone on his cell phone. I was not acknowledged or greeted. I informed the person I had to go back to work in 30 minutes, he told me to wait for 15 minutes, meanwhile staying on his phone discussing personal matter. After 15 minutes, I asked when I could be seen, at this point he became very rude... I had to leave. Thank you for wasting my time. I should have gone to walmart or anywhere other than here....
