The team at Acts of Beauty is phenomenal. My hair and make up was done by Michelle and she was amazing to talk to and was responsive to what I was looking for. The photographer, Star, has some kind of magical powers. She's so down to earth, and makes you instantly comfortable and confident. She gives great direction - so if you are like me and have no idea what you're doing in front of a camera, she will be there for you every step of the way. If you're considering doing this, you're not going to find a better duo to make you feel amazing. Highly recommend!

I am not someone who is comfortable in front of a camera, never have been...now, after spending time with Star yesterday, I feel like that belief is a lie. I've been wrong this whole time because there was something Star brought out of me that I didn't know existed...sass and spunk! I am a plus sized woman and of course that can come with body image issues, but Star is amazing at helping you understand that when the people who love you look at you, they don't see the flaws that you see. From the consultation where I poured my heart out to her to the day of the shoot where I was treated like a queen for the whole day, to the gorgeous makeup by Michelle, I felt...seen. In the most amazingly beautiful and empowering way. After years of saying I was going to do it I finally booked a session with Acts of Beauty and worked with the team of Star and Michelle to do a boudoir session. You'd think that the session started when you walked in the door but for Star Newman it's different. She reached out for an interview to understand who I was and what I wanted to get out of the experience. She sent several emails in the months to my boudoir shoot, and each one designed to address concerns women would have, such as clothing options, body image, nerves, suggestions in self care and more. Every woman is nervous walking in, I'm sure, but the two ladies immediately set to work to calm the nerves I felt when the day of my shoot arrived. We looked through my clothing choices, discussed hair and makeup, talked further about the kind of pictures I'd like to take and then I was whisked away to get glammed up. Michelle chattered and drew me out, easing any lingering doubts as she skillfully did my makeup and hair. I'd never felt so pampered and comfortable as in her chair, and because I rarely wear makeup, she explained what she was applying and why. I was blown away by the final result. Once done I was brought back into the studio and my work with Star began. Most people don't get to know their photographer but Star talked about herself and shared her personality, including sometimes getting lost in her art as she was behind the camera. She helped me choose outfits, moved me through various scenes for the best pictures and had me do dozen of poses, all the while commenting on what she was seeing as she was looking through her lens. She made me feel extremely empowered, liberated, beautiful and beyond sexy. We laughed and chatted the whole time and never once did I feel awkward or inhibited, including when I was naked and posed, it just felt incredible. Would I recommend Acts of Beauty Boudoir Photography? Without a doubt, and I already have to whoever asked me about that day. I walked away from the shoot thinking I could take on the world and already planning when I'll do my next shoot with them. I haven't even seen pictures yet, but as I write this review the feelings of empowerment, liberation, strength, and more come flooding back in a rush. 1000 times over I would recommend the team of Acts of Beauty for any boudoir shoot.

After my boduoir shoot. I rode a high all afternoon, and every time I thought about how amazing I felt there, I almost welled up. What an incredible experience. I felt so vulnerable yet safe with Star. I feel supported and respected and powerful and beautiful. I haven't felt this way in so very long. I can't even remember. The day started with Michelle Grad doing glamorous, sultry makeup and hair. Star came in to offer champagne or water or tea and chocolate. With this being during COVID, I felt very safe in the clean, disinfected, yet beautiful studio. Michelle wore a mask and only used disinfected products. Star kept an easy 6 feet away at all times. When it wasn't possible, because she helped me with wardrobe, she put on a mask. Do this for yourself. Gift this to your loved one. You will never regret it.

How intimidating is it to consider taking off your clothes and posing for photos? I mean, it’s terrifying right? I walked in to my session so utterly nervous and convinced that I was going to be the one that Star just absolutely couldn’t get decent photos of. That voice inside my head was loud, and telling me I was going to fail on an epic level. I’ll let you know, within 5 minutes of being with Michelle getting hair and makeup done, I was feeling like “ok, maybe I won’t break the camera” Michelle handed me off to Star feeling excited, nervous, and curious about how this was going to go. I still held a lot of doubt, I mean, I’m not a size six. I’m a chubby mom with scars and sags and body parts I don’t especially love. How can I look as good as the women in Star’s gallery? They’re beautiful, I’m just me. 10 minutes in to the shoot experience, I started to feel different, I felt stronger, I felt empowered, I believed Star when she told me “you’ve got a great butt. Looking in the mirror at it doesn’t do it justice on any body. Trust me. You’ve got a great one” and when she told me I was beautiful and sexy and all those things? I really believed her. She made me laugh, she made me smile, she had me closing my eyes and visualizing amazing things. I walked out of that shoot floating on a cloud of confidence and unadulterated joy. I stayed on that cloud for days. Then life happened, and my self esteem took a kick. I know this was purely unintentional, and just affirms to me that Star genuinely cares about her clients, it’s not just a job, it’s an absolute passion. I got an email telling me she was working on my photos, and that she loves them, and can’t wait for me to see. Normally this would have ignited a self esteem crisis of epic proportions, but I felt that genuine honesty and caring shining through in that message, and I revisited the time spent with her, and you know what? I felt better about everything that was going on. Let’s fast forward to reveal day. We had a chat before seeing the photos, this woman has an absolutely calming inspiring and amazing presence. When you’re talking with her, you know that she is all in listening to what you’re saying (and not saying) and she engages fully with you. It’s not polite chat. It’s genuine conversation. The big reveal, the nerves, oh god the nerves. Those inner voices were howling, these photos are going to emphasize your belly... ugh! The tan lines.. what were you thinking? You’re going to look ridiculous! Then I saw the first one. And I had to just sit there for a minute to stare. I saw a beautiful sexy vulnerable person on the screen, and that person was me. Scrolling through the photos, I didn’t have to remind myself to be kind. Yes. I saw the things I feel are flaws, there’s no hiding a stomach or scars, but those things were not the focal point for me... I was seeing beautiful things about myself that I’ve never seen before. It was an incredible experience. I can’t wait until I have my wall art up on display, and the album in my hands, so I can spend all the time I want looking at these incredible photos. I don’t have adequate words to describe how absolutely empowering my time with Star was, nor do I have words for how much this experience has changed how I see myself. It’s a life changing experience. If I could gift every woman I know with it, I would in a heartbeat. If I can offer one piece of advice, don’t think about it, just do it. Don’t wait to lose a few pounds, don’t listen to that voice saying “yeah but I’m not as pretty” Trust me. The woman in the photos and the woman that is writing this now are one and the same, even if I’m not wearing makeup hair done and lingerie on. I just didn’t see her in my daily self until Star showed me. This is your push, ask questions, look at the gallery, know that you are going to see the goddess you are, and book a session. I promise you, it’s the best gift you’ll ever receive.

Star, you're like having my very own hype girl behind the camera in front of me. You coached me through the whole thing and before I know it, I'm posing and settling in more and more. At the reveal, I was nervous and super excited to see what had been created. The photos are absolutely stunning. Not only is Star an amazing photographer, but you can see in my face and poses what she brought out in me. I cannot wait to get my hands on the album and wall art. The idea is to be reminded everyday when I walk past it, how much fun I had a how much I really enjoyed it. I really needed that. If you're at all considering doing something like a boudoir session, do it! Every woman deserves to showcase themselves, feel gorgeous and amazing and have some fun.
