Quick and painless service. Got my stuff on a discounted price online, went there and picked them up curbside in a jiffy! They're also responsive on the messenger.
I agree with Navin’s review. This place is amazing, great staff and the membership has really good value. Super friendly and helpful when you have questions about developing or buying film. It just starts getting weird in the used camera section. The three times I’ve been there, I’ve had to deal with 3 different staff that appear to be very condescending and smug. Single word answers as if they’re trying to get rid of you as fast as possible. Might have been bad luck, or maybe they’re tired of being asked the same questions all the time. Maybe they’re on commission? I’m sure they’re all great people, not sure what’s up with the attitude during my visits.
Usually I won't write a review of a store, but not this time. Today I just walked in to the worst camera store I ever seen. The service quality is terrible. …
outstanding service, super helpful folks AND I seem to always get my photos back early, cant beat it
Literally the greatest. I drive out from Scarborough just for them. Their warehouse angels Kenny and Pierre are super kind, patient and helpful. The lab staff are tremendous as well.
The place to go for your photography needs - especially if your focus is analog photography. The staff at Downtown Camera is very knowledgeable, friendly & accessible. Their prices are great & their inventory is well stocked. I got all my darkroom supplies there last summer. I ordered 120 film from them in March 2020 & they had it shipped to me right away so I was able to keep working during the lockdown. When I lived in Toronto I shopped there all the time & when I visit, I make sure to stop in for some film & anything else I maybe looking for.
EDIT: Actually Claudia I did call several times and no one answered also left a couple of messages. When I picked up the package I again tried to ask and was not given any kind of response. As for the "detailed Invoice" it gave me a subtotal, tax and a final total. Unfortunately I no longer have it. I never asked for you to judge the photos, perhaps I was not clear in that point. I would not have let myself be talked in to more than the one single print I wanted if I had known beforehand what was on them. I came across those by accident and was curious. Totally my error there. Regardless I will not be returning. However I thank you for your response. Staff is great but the prices are insane. I took some old negatives I found to be processed and the woman talked me into the prints and the jpgs. That would have been fine until I saw the invoice when I was sitting in a restaurant later. 82$ . I called to find out why. No one answered, left a message no call back. Went and picked them up and they rush to get the package and send me away. There was like 40 photos at most and most of them were unusable. My own fault for deciding to get them developed but 82$ is still ridiculous. Was not impressed at all. First and last time there.
Before curbside pickup they were very helpful and had everything I needed to start developing film again. Recently bought a lens at a very reasonable price. I prefer to support local businesses instead of ordering from the Bezod.
I had several photos printed here of various sizes and they ALL turned out dark, not at all like the actual digital photos. They looked awful. This was my first time using this place and the last. I had them reprinted through Costco and they look exactly like the originals.
I always go to downtown camera for all my film needs. They are the only place in the city that I know of that scans and develops your film AND on top of that they are super affordable. The customer service is great... The staff there are extremely knowledgeable and never condescending. Thanks DT camera!
It's a gem. Love the staff here and the atmosphere.
They had what I wanted and price matched
Great selection and helpful staff. If you shoot film, best prices on fresh stock.
A surprisingly large selection of photographic goodness packed into a relatively small footprint! Very friendly and helpful staff. I went, looking for a good camera bag with my sight set on one in particular, but left with something I’m even happier with. A testament to the quality of the staff. I’ll be back ????
After todays experience I am probably always going to end up in this store. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and are eager to assist. It's probably one of the best experiences I've had in any camera specific shop.
There is all types of the products are availables.
The thinking person's alternative to its bigger rivals. Friendly, have time for you, and give good unbiased advice. For my money very much the best of dedicated camera shops in Toronto.
Dear Downtown Camera, Thank you guys so much for helping me out today locating the Nikon remote cable as I panicked and got in my car to avoid a parking ticket. You guys are the best. Thank you for treating me with utter professionalism and respect even though I was being a goof! Absolutely 5 star service and the best location in Toronto for film processing and all your photography needs. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your old friend, Shane Fester
Thanks goes to sales rep Stan for giving me the worst customer service experience at Downtown Camera by far. Stan is shockingly smug and condescending and actually said the words "why are you wasting my time?" to me. From other reviews I've seen, I was excepting friendly people and great service, but business must be booming at Downtown Camera and apparently they only have time to deal with the "Pros". Good job, Stan. Because of you, I'll never come back to the store again.
You are the experts! ???????????? Thank you for helping me for the visa photo and your detailed explanations with a kind attitude. From now on, you will be my main photographer. Regards,
Great photo shop. Really fast film development time. Friendly help and competitive prices
Been going here for years as they have always provided the best service. They can be a bit pricey when buying used gear, but it looks always to be in great shape.
Not bad for an independent shop. I had then touch up a set of prints to frame as a gift, and where I felt they could have done a better job of cropping one, they probably did the best they could with a photo that was taken with a faulty tripod. The prints were reasonably priced, and ithey had excellent turnaround. They also have some of the best prices o n equipment in the city. I bought a sigma 10-20 lens from there, along with an 18-200 zoom that I have now, and I know I saved on both, after I compared prices with Henry's and other competitors.
Absolutely fantastic staff, great selection of pretty much anything you need, especially if you're into film photography. Likely the best selection of used gear in the city. Has pretty much anything you could need for darkroom/developing.
Asked to clean the sensor on a simple camera. After the cleaning, checked it int he shop - there were still dust spots. They took it back and cleaned it again. I showed them again that there are dust spots, they said they can't clean it. I shot an image outside and showed them another dust spot that they missed. Their reply was 'we can't take responsibility for whatever happens after we give the camera to you, even if you went outside for a minute. They definitely lost me as a client.
Convenient parking right next door. They have a fairly large resource of all things photography. Even chemistry for the darkroom as well as paper!
Great staff work here. Deeply knowledgeable without being snobby about it. They’ll give you real opinions on the equipment if you ask, but also leave you to browse as long as you want. Basically the best camera shop I’ve ever visited.
Ive been going here for over 6 years. I love this shop for the friendly professional service!
Very helpful staff. All seem to be camera enthusiasts and very willing to share their knowledge.
I've had a really great experience shopping on Downtown's online store since I live in BC. I have yet to shop in store one day. Lots of selection online for film stocks and fast shipping despite Covid-19 delivery delays.
Knowledgeable staff, very friendly great service and good selection of products.
Great customer service and knowledgable staff. I came in to the store looking for a new camera. One staff member in particular named Faraz was very helpful and answered all my questions patiently and stuck by me the whole time. He had excellent customer service and was knowledgable.
A bit expensive in the used gear compared to a few other place I know. But great film processing and price at $8/roll.
Best place in Toronto for your photography needs, also one of the only places in Toronto keeping film photography alive.
These guys are awesome. Had a minor issue with a camera that I bought elsewhere and they helped me out and found extra screws for my canon PowerShot. They didn't have to help me but they went out of their way to provide the best service ever. I'm coming to these guys all the time now!!! Shout out to Stan and the tech guys!
Some of the dealers are looks polite, but has prejudging about potential buyers especially white vs. people of colour. Some are Catullus and they are friendly who loves communicate with people. Welcoming skills are too poor and decoration of products are too confusing. If you need something u better check the website and find the good deal and just go there to pick it up. If you see a casual guy, try to examine their dealership skill. Is is good enough to give u more discount for stuff you need? Buy more then.
Great for flim developing. ????????
Great service! Nick helped me to choose a good camera for photographing documents in the archives and even sent me a video of how to do something on my new camera a few weeks after I bought it! Thanks!
Great staff and selection makes this one of the top shopping stores for camera gear in Ontario!
George and Ken took my passport photo and were absolutely FABULOUS! It was the best photo I've ever had taken, they really cared to do a good job and make sure that I would have the photo that fit all the regulations. It was also the cheapest and fastest. This is the only passport photo place that I've been in Toronto where I haven't been disappointed.
Can't overstate how helpful and accommodating Downtown Camera has been. 3 of us, enthusiastic amateurs looking for moderately priced goods, got full attention and patient assistance from a staffer, who never lost his sense of humour. Invaluable, as we can't navigate the offerings without a guide. 3rd outing to DC during the pandemic to this lively repository of real photography
I’m right here, taking a headshot for my access card and I wanted to give a shout-out to George who took a very nice photo of me. I was here 2 years ago before COVID and I came back as I still hadn’t forgotten his professionalism and patience and great job he did before. Thank you George. Keep it up! :)
Same day service at a great price for sensor cleaning. I went to the other camera shop around the corner which had a 2-4 month wait list! Downtown Camera staff were friendly and service was great.
Recommendations and thanks to Downtown Camera. Especially John Witcher for all your help, knowledge on lenses. Always impressed with the information you have stored and always the right answer for my questions. Recently purchased Nikon 12-24mm and 200-500mm VR from John before going away for 2 weeks and the first use for both was Niagara Falls. The images have reached 14,000 views on Google in one week since uploaded.
Awesome place. Downtown Camera is the place to go for all your camera needs. Kenny was so friendly and helpful with any questions or concerns I had when looking to purchase a tripod and some micro sd cards. He went so far beyond the expected level of customer service. Prices are cheaper than anywhere else and if they are not, talk to the staff and I'm sure they will beat it. Will never buy camera gear from another store in the city!!!!!
Downtown camera used to be a really cool place to get your pictures developed and find overpriced vintage cameras. Nowadays, it’s still a great place to get your pictures developed and find overpriced cameras. One time they tried to sell me a cool camera strap for $500. I found the same strap at Burlington camera for $5 the next day. go figure.
So Downtown Camera moved recently so they've been super busy working hard to get the store back up and running again. Despite their long days, one of the employees, Vitalii, showed up with a welcoming attitude ready to help me. I had a problem in the threads of the mounting hole of my Canon and Vitalii helped me get all of the plastic out...for free! He was so kind, taking the time to make conversation and giving me advice on my camera. I couldn't recommend these guys enough if you are downtown...Super friendly and great customer service. Shoutout Vitalii! Thanks to him I can get back to making my Youtube videos now!
Great staff. Always been happy with the film selection and development. Highly recommend. The new location is great. They've also got everything you need analog or digital.
The staff is always polite and helpful. Which is amazing considering how much demand they have. Probably one of two spots in the city that still develops film on site. So many pluses. A must stop if you're seriously thinking of making the switch to Analog.
Came in to get some photos printed off of a usb. The gentlemen who helped was knowledgeable and super nice. Quick service for a great price!
Over the past several weeks, I've been helped by Nigel at Downtown Camera to gather a camera kit for myself. He's been incredibly kind and helpful. I am re-learning about photo equipment and he answered my questions in a friendly manner that was approachable. He also really helped me find a good deal on the gear I ended up ordering, flagging where I was spending too much on something I didn't need and suggesting alternatives. It's great to deal with customer service folks who love what they do. It's clear that Nigel is one of them. Thank you!
Super great service! All the staff are really informative and from the numerous places I've developed film, they have the best offer/quality of service for what you pay. Also, if you're a student - they have great membership options so you can save some money :)
Fantastic customer service. Quick responses to questions online and helpful on the phone. And shipped a product I wanted within hours after purchase. Thank you.
Great one-stop shop for beginner photographers. When looking for used equipment ask for Nigel! He goes above and beyond with his customer service and knowledge. I'm just a beginner photographer myself but Nigel was patient and honest, even teaching me what to look for when buying a used lens. Remember the aperture and fungus test and don't forget the camera/lens compatibility! Nigel was able to offer an affordable deal on a film lens and I love it! I am sure the other staff offer the same level of service and professionalism, but I know who I am asking for next time I'm looking for used equipment.
Good COVID protocol, very friendly and helpful. Prices aren't stellar but good scan results.
Best place in Toronto to develop your film. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great environment, and high quality scans. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Noticed a hair/dust specs in my camera footage and needed my DSLR sensor cleaned. I called Downtown Cameras and the gentlemen I spoke too (floor manager) was very nice and helpful. He went through all the options they had for service and my sensor looked all brand new when I received it the next business day! :) Super friendly staff and amazing service! I'll definitely be back!
You can go to any pro camera store and they'll all have the same current stuff - what makes this a great place to go if you are from out of town is the used dept! you'll never know what you'll find.
On holiday and thought staff were exceptional friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this shop as the place to purchase your camera equipment
I just stopped in on my vacation to buy a strap for my camera. The employee who helped me was knowledgeable and super cool. Great amount of stock to choose from, conviniently located in the downtown area. Good prices on stuff and they will price match. I'll definitely go back while I'm in Toronto if I need anything, I don't see why I would go anywhere else!
Great store, great staff. Loved the store
Great Camera store. They know the products inside and out. They even sell film! Great service. Walked in and was helped by Kenny right away, explained to me all the features on the cameras I were looking at, even looked up to see if there was any special deals for the Olympus EM5 that I was thinking of buying. I will be doing more business with them in the future.
Very nice camera store with a wide assortment of cameras new & used. Reasonable prices.
One of the more famous places in the city for film shooters who still develop film. Staff are always friendly, regardless of what you're looking for.
Would rate higher if I could. Some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. I send my negatives here from half-way across the country to be developed and scanned because the quality of service and work is that good. Frequent film development specials and a membership that grants up to 25% off of film purchasing also means this is the most affordable place to buy and develop film in Canada that I know of - and an excellent source for digital and other photo gear too. Jeff Bezos doesn't need your money, support these folks. They're a real treasure.
I purchased a premium tripod from Downtown Camera. I traded in a whole bunch of mint equipment to offset the tripods price. The salesman Stan dealt with trading my items in. A word of warning, although the store looks like an upstanding camera business, I view their employee Stan as disingenuous and sly. I am a very honest businessman. Stan, in my opinion, will try every trick to lower your trade ins, to maximize his dollar. I implore others not to deal with him, or find another store altogether.
Very cool place where it's possible to get an analog camera as well as dijital one! They do all kinds of document photos, sell film, disposable film cameras, all kinds of accessories. This is the place every photographer must to visit!!!
Great service but sadly never has what I need in stock.
Very nice shop, and people are very friendly.
Came into the store hoping to replace a missing a screw in my camera body - the guys at the used/repair section were fantastic. Fast, very friendly, and free service. I will be back. This is the spot!
Would like to express my deep gratitude to highly qualified, very professional and kind Staff of Downtown Camera and especially to Photo Laboratory for great job! Will recommend/advertise their service to relatives, friends, colleagues, mates... With Best Wishes, Valeriy
Our if this world real life expertise from real people.
A camera store that reminds me of years ago. Within 10 mins 3 staff asked how i was and do i need anything. The size of their film dept was impressive!
Great place to get cameras and accessories. Staff was very nice and helpful and there are a lot of varieties to choose from. Easy to get to from Queen subway station or the 501 streetcar.
I love Downtown Camera. I find the staff at Downtown camera are willing to let customers to try out new equipments without really pushing for a purchase. They have great selections of both new and used equipments. In fact, I think Downtown camera has more used gears than Henry's (Vistek does not have much). They also have student discounts on certain products (like film and developer) and services (film developing) that will really help students that are on a tight budget. Overall one of the great places to find photography equipments in Toronto.
I have nothing but good things to say about Downtown Camera, the main reason I shop at this camera shop is Stan, he has always been very supportive, informative, attentive, and real, with new and used gear. His best attribute is his dry humour and his way of being straight up and honest. He has made shopping fun and always interesting. He has always directed me towards gear that best suits me and my needs, he has also always worked with me on pricing, although there is often some fun back and forth, we always end up where we both agree on pricing. I bought my first enlarger from him about 22 years ago, while in collage. Now as a professional photographer I can say that I have pretty much bought all of my gear from him happily. The only down fall to buying from Stan is that no matter what day or time I go in at he seems to be busy helping some one out, so I have spent some time waiting for him. but its well worth it. The other reasons I shop at Downtown camera is that I get to see many of the same faces through out the years like Dan he's great, John, Harry, and many more, everyone is always available to help with info or pricing. I have recently met Claudia, she has turned me on to printing at Downtown Camera, by the way they also have a great photo lab on site. Claudia has gone above and beyond to accommodate, my specific print needs. The pricing and quality is great! all in all this is my one stop shop for photography, all the gear you need with a very personable staff with unique personalities that keep things interesting, I recommend Downtown Camera. Check it out, maybe one day 22 years later you will look back with fond memories of all the cool gear you bought there, and all the amazing people that make it a great. In closing I would like to thank Stan and everyone at Downtown Camera for everything you have added to my joy of photography.
Great camera store. Always has the lens I am looking for.
Biggest choice of film I have ever seen, a veritable MOUNTAIN of legacy / analog cameras and lenses, staff are VERY knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help and share. You can tell they are very passionate
I needed to get passport photos done for my newborn. I had to come twice as the first time my baby wouldn't wake up. The ladies who helped both times were very nice and patient, it was very much appreciated!
My first time shopping with Downtown Camera was a great experience. All associates over the phone and in person (curb side) were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. They had all measures in place for a safe shopping experience and I will certainly be back to do more shopping and developing in the future.
The store clerk, Nigel helped me figure out just the lens I needed to add to my then current collection. He spent a couple of hours with me. He showed me a few top contenders and was very patient while I examined some of the lenses he'd brought to my attention. I was like a kid in a candy store with a huge grin on my face with both the Sigma 24-70 OS Art and Sigma 50 Art. Initially, he had me at 50mm but he swayed me in a different direction which now 2 months later I greatly appreciate. Extremely knowledgable guy. Thanks, Nigel and keep on keepin on!
Kenny was very helpful ????
Bizarre customer service practices. I had purchased a variable ND from Downtown Camera and when I was in the store noticed a mini crane that was on display. I enquired on pricing and the sales guy ..John W... I think told me to call back in to confirm if they had all the parts etc. This was early June. When I called back in he forwarded me to another salesperson who insisted this was the smaller version of the product line but having seen the item myself and knowing the two different cranes knew this was incorrect. When I requested to speak with John again he agreed the product was the model I had thought it was but said that they had to look for the parts to make sure they could sell it to me. Weeks went by and nothing. I called back in and again he confirmed the model but no idea on parts. He'd call me back he assured me. Still nothing for a couple more weeks. This past week, end of July 2017, I called in again and got someone else who also assured me that someone would call me the very next day with at least some information. Of course no phone call was received. I thought these guys sold camera gear for a living...Honestly I have not seen this in over 35 years in Pro Video production. NEVER... It is a mystery how this place operates ... cryptic communications. BAD customer service in my opinion. FOLLOW UP I actually called them back and got the salesperson who promptly told me how much he liked my review. He just defended his action saying it was hard to find the part. Not a thank you or sorry or even goodbye.
Had Kenny help me out with a purchase, excellent customer service.
Fun and knowledgeable people here. Shop with confidence!
If you need any camera equipment/accessories or anything camera related stop by downtown camera. The best prices/very knowledgeable staff and more importantly very helpful and nice. Go see David! Great guy! 5+ star for Downtown Camera
I’ve just sold my used film camera here and they offered a good price. Honestly, this is the old camera so I don’t expect for better price. And even you want a new camera, this is the best store in Toronto to check.
My used full-frame DSLR camera / lens shopping experience was most outstanding. Nigel in the used camera department is highly knowleable and tremendously helpful. I did a lot of research prior to visiting the store and Nigel was able to answer all my remaining questions and concerns. He also recommended a lens that is absolutely perfect for my photography needs. I'll definitely be returning for more lenses and accessories to Downtown Camera. I don't ever write online reviews... but this upbeat of an experience needs to be shared! I love my Canon 5D Mark II & 80mm lens and look forward to all my future shoots!
They were so helpful, hospitable and quick! One of the best places for photography enthusiasts
As usually everything smooth and perfect Got my scans, prints Everything next day, everything top quality Highly recommend!
I really liked how they quick and helpful they were. Not gonna lie, even though wasn't able to pick up my negatives due to work I'm glad they at least called/emailed me many times to let me know that I should pick them up or they will be tossed away. Great place to get film developed.
Fast Service even in the face of changing rules. I was looking for a Fuji 23mm, which has been very hard to come by recently. Not only did Downtown Camera have them in stock after a quick call, they also prepared the online order quite fast. Great curbside service, and they apparently work through snowstorms too!
THE place to go. They are so knowledgeable and can help you with anything photography related. They are also the only place I know that still handles film & I am so thankful for that. Always a great time!
I've come here a lot and I came this morning to get film developed and to buy a camera. When I came in I asked about my rewards card that I had to submit with my film last time I was in, that I never got back. The employee was in training so he brought his manager, who proceeded to talk to me as if I was a child who was causing a scene, when I asked a simple question very politely. My boyfriend and I were appalled by the way I was spoken to in the store. The manager then proceeded to pull up my history of how many times I have been to the store, instead of listening to what I was asking of her and started to lecture me. At that point, my boyfriend and I walked out of the store. When I got home, I received an email from the manager explaining that they had found my card and trying to rationalize why I had been spoken to the way that I was. She blamed stress from COVID for the way I was treated in store as if the pandemic hasn't affected everybody. Honestly really disappointed because I used to bring friends to develop their pictures here and after a year of being a loyal customer, I'm just gonna go to Henry's around the corner for cheaper.
Very professional employees! I always go there for film processing, recently bought all the chemicals for my first BW darkroom! Price is awesome for Kodak products if you are a member!
Don’t come here expecting a good looking photo! Went to get my immigration photo taken and ended up with a pretty horrible one. Make sure to check with them cuz the lady took mine didn’t know the photo requirements. Didn’t get a chance to look at my photos before she sent it but the whole process was very fast and took about 3 minutes.
My partner and I needed to get ID photos taken and I came across Downtown Camera in my search. I emailed to ask if they still offered the service during the pandemic and I got a very quick and helpful reply from George. We were booked in for today and with Doug Ford's announcement on Thursday, he kept us up to date about whether the store would be open. Thankfully I got the call this morning to confirm our appointment could go ahead. The process for taking photos during COVID felt very safe and George was great. We would definitely come again for ID photos and hopefully we can look in-store at cameras when restrictions allow.
Awesome place. Employees are always kindly. Also, I can get a student discount.
I am extremely impressed by the incredible depth of knowledge and helpfulness of the staff here. I am extremely impressed by this location and would not hesitate coming back for all my photography needs. Thank you.
Staff here are genuinely helpful and attentive. Have had only great experiences with their sales and service.
Amazing selection from analog to digital. Film processing and darkroom equipment as well. Be careful in getting your film developed here, I have seen the people in the back working without gloves on handling negatives with bare hands. I was really surprised to see this considering how long I’ve had my negatives developed here. Response to owner: No my negatives have never been damaged, but I have had to wash them plenty of times to remove finger prints. I saw you employee take the negatives out of a sleeve and touch the emulsion, when she saw me she quickly closed the door to the room. I love your store, I don’t go anywhere else. But some employees are getting lazy about being careful.
Very good staff. Very friend. Kenny is my favorite. He is very thorough.
I am very impressed by their dedication to customer service. Upon hearing that I was looking to upgrade my camera setup, Graham spent over an hour showing me various combinations of bodies and lenses. He never tried to pigeonhole me into a …
Amazing staff, great programs preserving analog photography.
Knowledgable and helpful staff. Very large selection of new and used camera equipment.
Great place to get used lenses. Due to Covid only purposeful shopping is allowed and browsing is not really permitted. Until that changes, go there with something you plan on buying in mind. Also knowing product street prices will help. Ie do some research on Facebook market place, craigslist, Kijiji etc.
I purchased film from them online. Never heard back after they received payment almost 3 weeks ago... Still don't have the film or confirmation of them mailing out my order...
Great stuff with deep knowledge with what they do. Always been able to found what I was looking for. Lots of choices with great price. Highly recommended for film shooters. Great film collection.
Some of the nicest service I've gotten at any store. Good prices for film and developing and knowledgeable staff. I've been a regular for more than the last 2 years and have no plans on going anywhere else.
Super friendly and patient staff who are willing to help educate if you are curious about cameras/film. Not to mention, they have a quick turnaround and are at a convenient location that is a quick walk away from Queen station. I felt like my photos were in good hands. I can’t wait to get more developed at Downtown Camera.
I went here today for the first time after inquiring over the phone with Jeff about a used Nikon D700. First impression: The store had a nice selection and was geared for professional level photographers as well as amateurs and a full staff. It had that wonder and excitement a place like that should have when you go shopping for new toys. I spoke with Jeff and he was knowledgeable and took the time to answer all my questions (I had several because I plan to start buying a bunch of pro level gear over the next year). Pro stuff is quite costly so I'm looking to get as much for my money as I can (which I'm sure most of you are) and I made this known to Jeff (and also the owner who was standing next to our conversation). Jeff again was personable and he said all those decisions go through the owner, who again was standing beside him fiddling in a camera. However, he was basically being non-responsive to Jeff's obvious attempts to get him involved in our conversation. He wasn't interested. I also overheard the owner speaking to the previous customers about someone who was trying to 'squeeze' him on a purchase. By no means was I trying to 'squeeze' him, but was seeing what he could do for me on the price of the items I was asking about, and I was getting a feel for how much he gave a crap I was there, as I'd like to have a good relationship with the people at the store I plan on buying this gear from. He quite literally ignored us. In summary, I felt the owner was a snob and since the only real reason I would shop at the independent stores is for the service and attention to their customers, I probably won't shop here again. Sorry Jeff.
Great people and amazing service as always!
If you are a professional photographer or just interested in photography as a hobby, you will find absolutely EVERYTHING at Downtown Camera!!! Located at the corner of Queen & Church Sts. in downtown Toronto, Downtown Camera carries all highend brand names such as 'Nikon', 'Canon', 'Pentax' and much more!!! And Watch for ALL those special deals!!! You Can't Lose at DOWNTOWN CAMERA!!!
I went there to buy my first film camera and the gentleman who helped me (and older individual - wish I had asked him his name) was very helpful and knew his stuff. He even gave me training on rolling in a new film and how to rewind it. I tried it a couple of times until I got it. He gave me a few tips and gave me a short introduction on how to use the camera controls. Awesome service - will definitely come there for more of my photo needs.
Although I’m from Calgary, Downtown camera’s is my go to film development shop. The service is unbeatable and same with the prices. I’m part of the film club which gives me a discount on Kodak and all other films. I normally drop off my film physically and have them mail my developed rolls back to YYC. I haven’t had an issue with scratched negatives.
Covid protocols were followed. Plenty of great gear from new to used. They were the last place that had my lens in stock. I drove 3.5hrs to get there and they kept it on hold for me. Can’t wait to come back and shop some more!
My review needs to be explained: Firstly, the gentleman who helped me with my camera purchase was amazing. I can't remember his name, it could be John, he's an older gentleman who has glasses and went to Humber for photography; he was fantastic: patient, knowledgeable, helpful...everything. The result? I spent about $2,400 on a camera body, lens and some accessories. Later on the next day as I was packing my photo gear for a trip, I realized I didn't have a Camera Body Cover Cap for my Canon 6D which it was SUPPOSED to include. So, I ran back to Downtown Camera. The guy I had been working with on the sale wasn't there so I told someone else behind the desk. He said it would be 20$. I said no, the camera body and lens I bought the day before was supposed to include it. VERY RUDELY and BEGRUDGINGLY this person gave me a camera body cover. I was so repulsed at his behaviour it crossed my mind to return the camera and lens. This person seems to be the owner as he was walking around behind the counter and acting like a big-shot: looks Asian with glasses. Sorry, but you've lost a customer due to your horrendously rude customer service to someone who spent nearly $2500 on equipment.
These guys are amazing! Patrick went out of his way to get me a much needed charger while I am visiting from the US. Thanks ya'll.... from a Texas shooter.
Wonderful service and friendly staff. I had an issue with one of the things I ordered from them and they went above and beyond to help me fix the issue. I love these guys! One of the best film/camera stores in Canada.
quick and friendly service even with the covid pandemic
Quick turnaround on film developing services, great selection of film stock and chemicals for home developing. Their new location is bigger and better than ever! Used equipment is a bit difficult to see as it's kept against a wall on the other side of the counter (since there's so much of it) and even though I have 20/20 vision I struggle to see what's there. That said, the staff are all very friendly and will help you find what you want. The used equipment is plentiful but overpriced IMO. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out DTC before you go to Henry's or Vistek.
This has become my regular camera spot both for digital and film. Not only do they do a great job supply the best gear, the people that work there will give you all there attention and simply want to share their knowledge. Nigel and Patrick, thanks for your help over the past couple of visits. I will be coming to you for all my camera needs from here on out!
Fast service and very friendly staff.
Great experience and a huge variety of product. Customer service was one of the best I have ever experience, very knowledgable and helped me pick out the right product and let me know about their membership program to save me some money. Thank you Claudia for the outstanding service!
Great shop to deal with. Even during COVID they are responsive and friendly. There’s a reason why this place is so busy. Keep up the great work guys!
Best film services in the city! Appreciate the quality and consistency. Very friendly staff that are very welcoming. I trust that my work is in the best hands possible when I leave it here. Thank you Downtown Camera!
I went there to print a bunch of photos....70 or so. Staff were great, but to print basic 4x6 photos it cost me 5 times what is pay at Staples or Walmart. For context, same day kiosk prints cost $0.50 per photo. That's insane. That's $50 for 100 photos. As context, same kiosk at Staples charges $0.14 per photo for same day prints. I'm sure if I went in for some other reason my rating would be better, but I didn't, and I spent more money getting basic photos developed than I would have 20 years ago when you had to bring in a strip of film. If I hadn't been in a rush, I'd have left and gone somewhere else. Instead I had to remove 40 photos I wanted to print to save money and still paid 40 bucks
Of all 3 big photo stores in Toronto this one has become my favourite. Personable and knowledgeable folks.
Always had exremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. Incredible service and accommodations for covid too. Reccomend to anyone looking for quality development processing and also bulk film shopping.
Fantastic service from friendly, knowledgeable staff. Limited access with Covid protocols in place but the system is very smooth. Huge library of photo gear, and a growing selection on the video side of things.
Shout out to Nigel and Jonathan (?) who were extremely helpful, patient, and knowledgeable when it came to providing advice about camera repairs. I have been going to downtown camera for a little while now but needed to post this review to point out how amazing the service is.
Knowledgeable staff, great service and super friendly. Tonnes of selection including used equipment. If you are looking for a camera or equipment, this is the place to go.
My go to place for any kind of camera related purchases or services. Staff is highly knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely check their used equipment selection.
AMAZING! They always do a fantastic job with film orders, always super friendly and will answer any of your questions!
A great variety of services and products and a very passionate team that sets beginner photographers on the right path
Not happy with their return and exchange policy. I was not notified by the salesperson that my camera is final sale been over $1,500. I have never opened it and want to exchange it however its an absolute no as per store management. I’d understand their position if I used the camera but I never opened it. This store is the biggest competition of Henry’s Cameras who has an excellent return and exchange policy. I rather continue my business with Henry’s.
Staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable. I always have a great experience here, highly recommend going here for any camera / photography needs.
See Patrick. Awesome service
The Best in the world... Marko Sez Alright !!!
THE camera store. Outstanding selection and wonderful atmosphere.
Always have a great experience at DC. I've tried other places because I'm in Mississauga but nothing compares. They are well worth the trek down and their prices are fair. I'm new to film and they never make me feel dumb for asking simple questions. Even when I call on the phone, everyone is so patient and helpful.
I bought my Fuji XT1 from Downtown Camera and had a great overall experience. Kenny was the sales person that I was working with, he was very knowledgeable, patience and attentive to my needs in looking for a new camera. He took his time in showing me all my options with several models until I made my decision. Great store, amazing service and will continue to go there for my photo/camera needs in the future. Thank you, Robin
You may find a better price but it's convenient to order online and pickup later
Everyone tells me to avoid this place and I can see why. This place has never been good at customer service. Most employees here are smug and pretentious. Man behind counter (the one buying and selling at the back of the store) was so horribly rude it made me never wanna come back here. You can find the same camera services (if not better) with nice employees at Henry’s which is a one minute walk, at Church and Queen.
Everything about this place is professional, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. If you are looking for a passport photo go see Gorge he is the best in the business!
Usually great service; fantastic, local-shop vibes. Prices are better or on par with bigger competitors. If I could, I'd only shop here for camera gear, but their selection isn't always great given their smallish size. Very good quality film scans and processing.
•Main purpose of my trip to Toronto is visit Downtown Camera. I heard many good things about them and they are true! I'm impressed! •Staffs are welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable. They gave me very good advises on what I should / want to buy! Kudo to Sandy, who helped me on film selections, and one of the staff that helped me on "used" department. •This store has huge collection of film compare to Vancouver! Wow! They also has wide variety of camera gears too, again more than anywhere in Vancouver! •Students also get discount! •Must visit if you like taking photos and are in Toronto area. •Today's best purchase: 2 Fujifilm Pro400H - bought according to film sample album with help of Sandy/ never seen this film or anything with sample album in Vancouver before (01Nov2018)
Better prices then henrys
Best camera store in town. Knowledgeable staff who take their time. Awesome used section that you can spend a while just browsing and dreaming. Essentially the only play I buy gear Photo lab does a great job processing b&w film as well.
THE BEST place for your analog needs. Have had copious amounts of film developed here, and have purchased used gear here. Their level of customer service and accommodations are amazing!
I financed a camera with them. It took a few days to process which is completely understandable. Pierre was absolutely outstanding with his customer service updating me when it was processed! Highly recommend this company :)
Great staff, great pricing, great variety of products. Staff are very knowledgeable and willing to help. 10/10
Downtown Camera has had great Covid measures since the beginning. Lots of options to mail in, or mail to return your film and prints in a timely manner. I am never disappointed with their work and their staff is always accommodating and ready to help.
The staff here is sooo ace, love coming in and starting a conversation with the people behind the counter. I came in yesterday after accidentally breaking my film reel and jamming the washer, it looked pretty damaged and was probably going to need to be sent in for up to three weeks but the guy helping me out was determined to fix it for me himself so I could take it to an event the same night. Ended up fixing it after about 20 minutes of fiddling with the parts and he even helped me select some film and a new flash. Always a great experience coming into the store I recommend this place for both professionals and beginners to get all your questions answered !
Downtown camera follows the traditional look and feel of camera shops. Knowledgeable staff and a decent selection make it one of the better stores in the GTA (not that there's very many left). They still stock and process film. Prices are high for their used gear however, especially film cameras. Best to walk in knowing your stuff.
Very knowledgable staff that always gives good advice. Great pricing for used lenses
I just wanted to share an experience I had that is rare these days in the retail and service world. Yesterday I called into Downtown Camera on a hope and prayer that they had a battery for camera in stock. Not only did they have the battery but their sales associate Patrick Ng went over the top by rush shipping it to me and I had it the next day by noon. I called the store during the last hour they were open that day and had the product in my hands the next day before noon and it only cost me $25. I don’t know any other camera shops or businesses that would provide that service. Most would say I’m sorry sir there isn’t enough time to complete your request. Beyond this I have had nothing but great experiences dealing here. From processing my film to letting me play with new gear and chat about photography. You can’t go wrong by buying a product here.
Great service and friendly staff. They are moving to another store down the street soon and they have some awesome deals on used equipment. Kenny is a really nice guy and will work with you to make sure you get what you need.
Bought my first film camera at a good price from incredibly knowledgable and tolerant team (I asked a million questions). I managed to break it over the weekend, then Michael fixed it for me on Monday morning. Simply the best customer service I've ever had. I really don't think there's a better camera shop in Toronto.
Went to get film developed. Long wait, but once helped, it was quick. Looks like they have everything and you get 10% off if you're a student.
New and used cameras and photography/film/video supplies. Although this place has a lot of stock in the store, it seems to be quite organized. Prices seem to be very good. Service is excellent. David G was very pleasant and knowledgeable.
Downtown Camera is the best camera shop in Toronto. The reason they have the best people working there. Can't recommend a camera shop more highly than them. For great deals on any of your camera needs this is your 1 stop location. Love this place!
Excellent service and ambient. If you are going to get a headshot, make sure you ask for George, he's the best photographer there.
I know nothing about photography but would like to dive in. I was greeted warmly when I got to Downtown Camera. They explained everything to me, how to get started, what type of entry level camera I should have, and never sold me anything I didn’t need. I am so glad that I came here and I know where I will be getting subsequent cameras! Thanks!
Great place with friendly staff. Best place to get film in the city. Call ahead for stock if you need something.
Seems to be a lovely camera store, the staff were very Helpful and Knowledgeable
For somehow that was my first visit to this camera ???? store.. So good friendly staff and wide services
Great place. I was helped by Sheldon who was a great guy to deal with. Bought a Fuji ML camera on my visit.
downtown cameras has a great selection of products a lot of things you can see the service is quite good the people are knowledgeable the only thing that I would like if they could do was to clean it up a little bit more and make it a little easier to navigate and organize other than that it was quite good.
Took in some seriously old films. Delighted to see the memories. Reasonable price and fast turn around.
Brought my camera here to have a lens fixed! Very professional, friendly and efficient staff. Will be back!
Great experience. New to photography and these stores can be very intimidating. The knowledgeable and very friendly staff was extremely helpful with my photography needs and beginner questions. Will now be my store for future purchases, although not the closest from home. Thanks guys! Well, it's been a year and they continue to surprise me. Class act group of people and are always willing to help. Very trustworthy. Purchased 2 used cameras over the past year, best way to buy used without the risk of buying from a private seller. Not the only one with these experiences so definitely a win here.
This is the sort of camera shop you want to be supporting. A real local business that serves the community.
Always a great experience, got my first analog camera here!
Well organized store. Was a pleasure to visit.
Very efficient, reliable service at very reasonable prices. Excellent customer service.
In 5 minutes I got my passport pictures. :) they are quite efficient.
A coworker recommended I check out Downtown Camera as they have good service and prices. I’ve gone in numerous times since my first visit a couple months ago for both repairs and purchases. Every time I have been greeted by genuinely friendly staff who are attentive, yet don’t intimidate or pressure me like at other camera stores. This makes for a very pleasurable shopping experience! I feel at ease and free to ask questions, look around, think and come back. Yesterday I made a camera purchase with Nigel. He worked with me to find the best product for my specific needs - two visits and a phone call later. I really appreciated the care and time he took with me, answering my many questions and helping me learn the new camera settings. Other staff answered questions he didn’t have the answers to, making a good team! I felt very valued as a customer - and as a human being too!
Great store. Knowledgeable staff and a great selection of whatever photography or video items you need.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
This is about repair, not about the shop itself. Unfortunately I cannot rate it separately. So, this is my story. The shutter of my Canon 6D was needed to be replaced. Of course, Downtown camera does not do it. They just send it to Canon service center, which is hidden somewhere deep in Mississauga. ($25 to check out, $25 to send to Canon.) They replace expensive assemblies with refurbished ones and charge you as per new ones, or more. Price was $450. It took 4 weeks plus. Now I can hear how old my new shutter is. You can find the new shutter in the internet for around $120 and replace it yourself, but you have to be pretty experienced. I did not take the risk. $500 for refurbished shutter. Thank you Canon.
Great store. Lots of choice. Very helpful. I recently found myself in Toronto on my honeymoon and the unimaginable happened. My camera broke! I popped into Downtown Camera and dealt with Michael. He was very knowledgable and helped me choose a new camera.
Friendly and helpful staff and everything that a photographer could want.
They didn't have what I wanted, but they were super polite and helpful. I will definitely come back if I need any other gear.
Amazing service. Great pricing. Best used camera equipment supply in town. Worth going out of your way to buy from here. I would always try to buy used and sell used to here. There is a significantly clear level of honest in pricing as opposed to the desire to hit a certain margin for a certain SKU of products. You should come here before Henry's Camera Store every time.
Best shop in the city for analogue shooters.
Ohhhhh for a lensman such as myself walking into here was a deeply spiritual experience. Firstly it's hugely stimulating creatively. The staff are great, passionate and knowledgeable. A gigantic selection of everything new for film, digital, consumer and professional formats. Then there's the second hand area. Eeek my wallet compressed violently in anticipation. Found this uber cute f2 pancake. Makes the c300 look like it's run into a wall but a beatific 40mm turns into a 60mm on the 35mm cinema sensor. I managed to get 50 bucks off through being moderately charming as well. Highly recommended.
Stopped in to check out the store - lots of equipment with staff nearby to assist you. Great friendly atmosphere, with staff open to letting you try items without being pushy. Great place to go for camera gear.
They are very nice and friendly over here. Try calling before getting in and they will guide you through everything there is to know about what you want to buy.
I would highly recommend Downtown Camera. I send them an email asking ALOT of questions about the services they can provided for me. Throughout the interactions they were professional and respectful, answering each question in a timely manner. In addition, I went to get my License photo here and the gentlemen helping me was very respectful and professional. I forgot to ask for his name but he is an older man and had glasses haha. Anyways, good.
Purchased a Pentax K-7 and a K70 there, people where very professional in assessing my needs, reviewing what i do, and which lenses I have, to save me money. Thank you for all your help
This store is awesome. The staff are so helpful! If you are looking for rare items like medium format cameras, flashes, strobes and accessories they probably have it hidden somewhere and they can dig it out for you. Have had a great experience every time I go. The staff always go above and beyond to help you out.
Prices could be better, but they are as expected. Good selection of lenses and products Never had a problem getting help from the staff They carry backpacks and such; good selection Some video microphones are carried
Good store often carry things in stock that others do not. Good customer service. Silly returns policy.
I love this store. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I had to get my sensor cleaned for a commercial shoot right after holiday Monday, and they were able to get it done within the half hour. Patrick Ng the Commercial Sales Manager totally saved me. I would highly recommend this place. I have never had a bad visit to this store and I've been coming here for over 30 years! Wait that makes me sound old. it was my first visit. There, that sounds better;)
Been shopping here for years and bought all kinds of cameras, and exepecially enjoyed browsing the used / film back when in store shopping was easier. Reasonable prices for cameras that will work instead of thrift-store gambles. Its also an easy place to suddenly turn invisible if the salesman who used to be talking to you sees a regular or senses that someone else is about to spend money.
Jeff is extremely knowledgeable, and very personable.whenever I come here he helps me with whatever I need. Great all around service.
Great customer service. Probably only place for buying film stock and chemicals and darkroom gear. Customer service is old school style listen and then advice abt gear. Never too pushy for sales, in fact these folks will tell you if it's expensive and suggest a more cost effective way. Love this place.
Professional, knowledgeable service with all the variety you could wish for; even E-6/slide film processing!
Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. I would highly recommend this place if you need help or have questions. They have a nice selection of used cameras here as well.
Been going here for years to get film developed, there's always helpful and friendly staff at the counter with an unpretentious vibe. Great selection of film! Join their membership program, it's well worth the money as well.
Extremely fast and well-done passport photos
I've been buying all of my gear here for the past 10+ years, and there's a reason for that. The staff are all super friendly, the selection although seeming to be limited on their website is actually really great in store (the new location is awesome), and the pricing is better than the competition in Toronto. There was one time years ago when I wanted a grip for my D700 and they didnt have any in so one of the guys in the back sold me his used one right out of his bag (pulled it off the body right there and everything) with two extra batteries and the charger for an excellent deal. So yeah, I'm a professional photographer and this is the only place I go buy my gear in Toronto and the place I send everybody to when I'm asked "I want to get into photography, what camera should I buy?" Top notch. 5 stars!
They will have me as a customer for life.
Friendly and professional staff
Shipped in my disposable cameras from across the province, and they were developed and emailed by the next week. Awesome service, and easy to access my photos. Will definitely use this service again.
Always have good prices and lots of used gear. Been going for many years. One of the few places that also develops film. Their prints are of high quality as well and prices are competitive.
the best place to get your film developed in the city. everyone knows their stuff and is always happy to help
I’ve been coming here to get filmed developed for years, but today I came in to buy a camera. Not only did they have exactly what I was looking for, but they had the even rarer model that I had only seen online. Nigel was extremely helpful and went beyond my expectations as far as customer service is concerned. His passion for photography really shows. If I could give a 6th star I would! Thanks Nigel!
They are awesome here! Fabiana helped me fix up my headshot (since I don't have Photoshop to do it myself) before printing it and she was just so patient and helpful with me - what a gem! I also arranged to have some shots printed at the lab and they were done much faster than promised. Also, it's a really cool shop to browse around in too, really fun decor. Will be my go-to place going forward and I would definitely recommend them !!
Amazing selection and by far the best prices for film and development. If you get there early enough they can do same-day development. This is also a great place to find new and used equipment and the staff are really knowledgeable and friendly.
I bought my 1DX3, Fujifilm and Lecia here, they have 100% professional and friendly service.
Had a lovely conversation with John!
Amazing and friendly staff. Excellent covid safety protocols in place. Please support this amazing business! One of the last great photography stores in the city.
Sent in my camera for repair. Great service, responded very quickly to questions. Also emailed me and called when my camera was ready.
It's to bad you can't add a review on the downtown camera website for the products I bought. Maybe an idea to add it. Going to the store it self was a great experience. I had bought my first camera from them in May. Which I use mostly use for car photography.
Downtown Camera has friendly, knowledgeable staff who are willing to help you out. They carry a wide range of products and offer numerous services with high quality output. I love that they still process film and they're easily accessible by TTC. I recently had my passport photo taken here. I felt comfortable with the staff member, who was kind to provide tissue and baby powder before she took my photo. I had no doubts that my passport photo would be accepted but they also have a guarantee! I highly recommend Downtown Camera to anyone who is in the market for buying new camera gear, who needs digital prints and film processed, and a new passport photos. They really care about customer service here!
I enjoyed my shopping experience at DTC and found their staff very helpful.
*Update : Apparently I got lucky on my first visit … I went back to Downtown Camera to purchase some accessories and not only was the service lacking but when I spoke to the manager, she clearly couldn’t have cared less. Looks like they’re not interested in my buisness. I’ll be going somewhere else in the future. Awesome experience today at Downtown Camera ! Kenny Lem was super knowledgeable about the products and the level of service was outstanding. Most stores in the GTA could stand to learn a thing or two about customer service from this gentleman.
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. Approachable expertise from beginner to expert.
My favourite camera store & Film lab in Toronto! Their film scan service is fast and great! Nice quality! You can get back your film scans in 3 hours for same day scan. Also the staffs are very kind! I really appreciate that they are trying to keep up film community in Toronto! Highly recommend for film users! #35mmToronto @natekimphoto
Really nice staff! Always go there to get and develop film. Really large selection of different types of film!
I live in Vancouver and my daughter and her family were coming out for Christmas from Toronto. My daughter works in film and my son in law told me that she had her eye on a Wandrd Prvke bag. I researched all the local Vancouver camera stores to no avail. Not one of them was helpful or willing to put a rush on an order for me so that it would arrive before Christmas... I turned to some of Downtown Camera’s Toronto competitors with no better success. I called Downtown Camera and the gentleman that assisted me, after listening to my long story, could not have been more helpful. He assured me that my order would arrive in time for Christmas and promised to let me know if the order hit any snags. The bag arrived as promised and my daughter loved it. Thank you for all your help and renewing my faith in Customer Service.
Just walked in to look around. Place was clean and staff was friendly. They pack quite a bit in the place for the shop size. Will organized to.
Always helpful staff. Have had film developed here many times and I’m always happy with the results. Usually get my scans back ahead of the promised time too!
excellent, knowledgeable service from the staff. my go to camera store. the best toronto has to offer ! thank you guys and gals zen billings
I live 5hrs from Toronto and have used their mail-in services a couple times now. Ive also dropped film off passing through Toronto. The dropbox option is so convenient! The staff in all departments are very friendly and helpful. They are great to deal with, seriously. The lab team does an amazing job, the quality of the scans really made me a happy customer.
Stan is the best! He is funny and has a charm to him. Prices only went up a little bit but it's been so long since they had price increases. The lab does take a bit longer then other places but I know it is for quality control. Never had a bad experience at the store. Hope you guys stick around for decades to come!
The best place to go for photography related anything. I rediscovered photography (film photography) and the staff there have always been so friendly with me (when they're not busy but even if they're busy they still will chat with me). They definitely don't make me feel dumb for not knowing the film photography lingo - because I'm pretty bad at it. One of the staff there even remembers my name from the first time I came by and still says hi to me - I don't go as much as I would like to but I still try to drop by every month. They also process negatives really fast, usually faster than what they claim. I love this store.
Rare place for self-serve photo printing nowadays. Very convenient. Very good service.
Best and most knowledgable staff I've ever seen in a camera store. For all camera gear upgrades I now feel I need to consult and hash out the options with the reps there. I fully trust they'll advise what is truly best for me and my kit needs. Thank you Downtown Camera!
Staff were helpful and not pushy. Answered all our questions and then some. Prices seemed to be online with other camera retailers.
I purchased a used D500 from Downtown Camera over the phone from Ottawa and everyone I spoke to was kind, accommodating and made my purchase a very easy and enjoyable process. Pierre especially sent me photos of the particular camera to assure that everything was of high quality and in good condition and overall assured that all parts of the transaction went smoothly. If I lived in Toronto or the GTA I'd be certain to consider Downtown Camera for any of my other photographic needs.
Knowledgeable staff, very friendly and helpful. Willing to offer helpful advice about photography.
Normally my experiences at Downtown Camera had been positive. I do some printing there, purchased some gear etc. That in mind I went to drop off a resume for some extra cash. At first everything was well but the gentleman I gave my resume, started to EDIT it in front of me. Not spelling, or grammar, just how HE would've done MY resume. Not only was it rude, and incredibly unprofessional, it was embarrassing to be done in front of other customers. You lost an otherwise loyal customer. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere.
Longtime customer, look no further for the best film lab in town - quick turn around, good resolution and consistent colour!! Some of the friendliest and accommodating staff ever! Willing to bend over backwards to help you out for any photographic needs. Pierre, Patrick, George, Fab, Carly will take care of you. Always look forward to dealing with DT cam for my personal and professional needs
They're good
I didnt get to take pictures inside the store but this is what i bought. Let me tell you about their staff. They are so nice and they helped alot. I came in looking for disposable cameras, and the first person who helped gave me a thorough walk-through how they worked and what would be the best option for me. Overall their customer service is excellent. The store itself, I didnt get the chance to look through completely but it looked like they had everything I'd ask for. I would definitely recommend anyone interested in photography coming down here.
Downtown Camera has a good selection of gear at great prices. The staff are friendly and I never felt pressured to make a purchase. They want to make sure you get what you need.
Love this store. Thanks Patrick for the awesome service. Best. J
My boyfriend and I came into the store today looking for guidance operating an old Nikon film camera. The staff at Downtown Camera was beyond helpful, and very knowledgeable! We ended up leaving with exactly the tools we needed, and didn't have to pay a ridiculous price for them. With such great customer service, fair pricing, and convenient location, I'd recommend it to everyone!
I've been going here for about a year, so my opinion is not based on one visit. Every visit to this store has been a positive experience. The customer service is always friendly, and associates are helpful and knowledgeable when asked (without trying to "sell more" at all). I am a big fan of their processing services. They develop film on site, so I don't have to worry about it going missing or taking forever (*ahem* Henry's *ahem). The quality is always superb, and they email you the photos directly - no more bad prints or endless CD's! Hurray! Their loyalty program is also nice, and in this latest round of lockdowns they're offering 50% discounts for processing services, which is extremely generous. All in all, a wonderful resource for photography lovers who want to support local and seek great customer service. I am interested in checking out their used equipment once the store reopens.
always great service! something was wrong with my old nikon fmn2 and they fixed the issue within 5 min when everyone else told me i would have to send it to a repair shop overseas. Definitely recommend this spot to everyone I know!
COVID Friendly! Great products and fantastic staff
Photographing staff are professional and they cling to the finest detail. They even do styling and photoshop for a passport photo. A 35*45 photo is just $20 including tax.
Amazing service. I ordered a Nikon lens, and I got it in Vancouver the next day with free shipping. Thank you????
The folks at downtown are great to deal with, even in the middle of Covid. I had a Minolta 3xi with shutter issues and they were able to fix it for me within a couple weeks. They are well adapted to the new rules and are still able to deliver first class service!
Staff is extremely polite & professional. Their handling of the covid capacity limits and social distancing rules is very well managed, best I’ve seen in Toronto so far. They operate like clockwork. I went in to get a visa photo clicked. …
So happy I found this place. I got a great 100 mm lense for my Canon used at a great price. I was so happy to find that. They have a great selection of used equipment if you are okay with that. Good selection of new equipment as well. Competitive prices. May not be as cheap as the big box stores but I'm still happy with this place.
Great place to buy camera gear. The store associates help out with any questions you may have and help you choose the right product for you. Staff are friendly and great.
Knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate staff. Ask them anything about photography and they'll do their best to help you. 5/5 because this is all you could ask for in a camera store
If you are looking for Canada or USA passport size photographs (print or electronic), then Downtown Camera is the right place to come. The reason I like this place so much and its always my goto place because 1. its reasonably priced 2. Its …
Good place to make a deal. They have move to a new location on Queen street near Henry's.
the store look amazing have variety of stuff new and used with affordable prices and they are expanding even more I was served buy a guy named David. He is very experienced person he knows what he talkin about and have excellent customer service highly recommend this store for photographer and camera lovers
I went to print my passport photos, they were helpful and informative on passport photos and advised me on what to make sure is good so it doesn't get rejected.
also posted this on yelp but wanted to make sure a good experience was heard... 1. really great staff: very knowledgeable and very helpful and friendly. i felt like they were there to help me make the best choice for my needs and didn't feel like there was any pressure to purchase on the spot or up-sell. 2. great support: a had a problem with a case i'd bought and the team was able to remedy the issue without issue, plus the communication was prompt. i feel like getting the same level and quickness of service would be impossible at a larger operation. would choose to do business again with this dt camera and would recommend to friends.
Always professional services whenever visited
This is my go-to source for 35mm film. Very knowledgeable staff, and a nicely organized store.
Friendly service, fixed an unfinished job on the spot while I waited! Very impressed!
Very knowledgeable staff gave me a hand with an antique camera I brought in. They had film for a camera that was over 100 years old and helped me load the film and got me all set up. Highly recommend this place!
Lovely local shop that really has everything you need. Still sells and develops film! The staff is kind and super knowledgeable as well.Make sure to ask about signing up to their membership if you find yourself shooting 35mm film frequently
Great local camera shop. Awesome prices on used gear and amazing selection of new gear as well. Most camera brands available in a single store that I have ever seen.
My favourite camera shop here in Toronto (well, I only know of two on Queen St. ;)) great service, competitive prices, very friendly staff. No sign of arrogance anywhere and no one will walk past you without a word!
everybody is so friendly especially geroge who helped me set my film camera so patiently
Went to Downtown Camera with my Sony Camcorder and wanted to attach a boom mike to it. There was no off the shelf solution sooooo .... Jeff and Stan worked for almost an hour figuring out the perfect solution using an assortment of washers and other parts they had on hand. They brought out hand tools and we a fun time all around. I walked out of the store for less than $ 30 ... Excellent guys!!! Will be back.
Friendly employees always makes each visit worthwhile
These guys are literally the best. I've had such a negative experience at Henry's that had unfortunately soured my entire experience in the photography industry as a novice...until I found Downtown Camera. Their processing/shipping times are lightning quick and the customer service is incredible and efficient here. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating, and this is probably the best stocked camera store in the GTA. Unlike Henry's, they don't actually sell what they don't have in stock just to hold on to your money. I learned my lesson and I'll never go anywhere but Downtown Camera for my photography needs again.????????
Great development. Nice staff. Check out these ones they developed.
Can’t say enough good things! There was a problem with my file when it got blowen up to 11x17 and they reprinted it at no charge. The problem was with my file so really appreciated the reprint. Love the final prints! Thank you!!
Great store with a good selection. Sheldon was very helpful
Stan and Jeff were amazing from start to finish. I bought a used Sony A7II and they were helpful in recommending everything I needed to switch to a mirrorless platform. Even going as far to let me know what lenses were close to mint condition but used so as to save some money for other accessories. I'll go back to DC from now on, Thanks guys!
Cool store, nice ppl working here.
great shopping experience! I’m psyched about my new gear, can’t wait to get home and get started. Salesman named Faraz was amazingly helpful and knowledgable. I’m so grateful not to have had to deal with some guy spewing out technical jargon and being all patronizing. It’s usually how it goes for me in camera stores. Thank you Faraz, I will be coming back
I have been getting my film developed here for the past three years and they have been nothing short of phenomenal. The staff are very knowledgeable and are happy to help in any way they can. Highly recommend!
Never refunded for a faulty camera strap 1 year on, staff took no accountability blaming the manufacturer for the defect. Failed to follow up on the refund, customer service poor... similar experience as Simon DDN prob the same guy, will shop elsewhere.
My go to for developing negatives in town. The older gentlemen who own the place are great, always down to chat and answer any questions I have. There's a lot of unnecessary saltiness in Toronto photography stores and these guys are just not about that.
I usually find camera store employees snobby or elitist. But not here. They have some of the friendliest service, willing to take the time to talk you through products and options. Keep up the great work!
Can't give it a positive enough review for 35mm needs. Great and knowledgeable staff, so much film stock, so many ways to get discounts, and dependable develop and scan timeframes. I love Downtown Camera for supporting film.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. Was able to get some medium format and 35mm film developed for a pretty decent price. You can pick up your negatives or have them mail it to you for convinience.
I’ve been coming here over a year now, and the employees are absolutely amazing so far from My experience. They’ll help you find what you need and if you want will even share personal anecdotes on their experiences with certain products if they have them. Definitely would recommend any beginners to go here as they’d be happy to help
Great selection of new and used equipment. Can sometimes haggle the price down.
always have a good experience here. limited purchase types can enter the store and the rest pick up at door. website has all the details
They’re just amazing, crew is always smiley and funny, had an awesome experience with salesperson Harry (i think that’s his name) he went overboard to explain me some tricks in film photography, he even took the time to look at my pictures and show me how to improve. Great people, all well knowledgeable of what they sell
I have been a customer since late 2009. The exceptionally friendly service and knowledgeable staff make this one of the few stores in Toronto offering a shopping experience like no other. John W, George, Stanley, Carly, Claudia, the staff in the film lab, actually I have never had a bad experience with any staff. I have purchased new equipment at Downtown Camera as well as used and both have been priced better than their competitors. Their film lab is excellent. I would not bother to develop or scan my own film when they do such an excellent job and at reasonable prices. I recommend Downtown Camera to all my friends and would suggest before going elsewhere give them a visit first. You will not be disappointed.
I wanted to write and express my gratitude to the entire team at Downtown Camera for all of your help in retrieving a roll a film that broke inside my camera two weeks ago. …
A great place with really helpful staff. The film drop of is very convenient too
Staffs are super friendly, they dont mind give you all information and advices. They have a huge range of suppliers. I was super comfortable purchasing from here.
Have a lot of friends who have bought their cameras here so Downtown Camera came highly recommended. While here, I spoke with Patrick and John, and both were kind and helpful. Very competitive prices too. Will definitely be back when I'm looking for more gear!
Great camera store. Staff are very friendly.
Been using downtown camera for over a year. Very consistant. Friendly staff. Great inventory.
Fast and efficient service and lovely staff who take care in what they are doing!
Super helpful, friendly and enthusiastic staff. Has everything one could possibly want.
best place in the city to develop film
Incredible customer service! Even with the busy atmosphere in the shop, I was greeted warmly by David and Vitalli who took the time, effort and extra consideration in assisting me with my needs! Very professional and I highly recommend!!
The best customer service in Toronto by far! Always happy to take the time to help with what you need regardless of your knowledge or ability with photography. Been coming for a while and all the staff are friendly but I was served today by Jonathan who was especially great with helping out all my questions and camera needs.
What can I say? It's hard honestly. If you need anything to do with film, be it medium format or other, this is the place to go. …
Nice selection of camera, bags and other related items. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good to deal with.
Busy store, get here early or expect to wait in line outside.
This is the best place in Toronto if you want to get a passport photo for an infant. George was absolutely amazing and we couldn't be happier to have found this gem.
Spoke with Nigel and had a really great experience. He shared a lot of knowledge with me and answered all of my questions.
This is the only place downtown I found that will develop hard copy of pictures . The staff were pleasant and overwhelmed in the pre-Christmas rush. I know I overpaid plus they chopped off a family photo of my brothers head. It's okay though, that's kind of how I feel about him...lol!
Only place in Toronto that can develop disposable camera film! They did it suuuuuuuper quick (same day), and they send me everything as a JPG via email!!!!! Great experience there and would definitely go again once I need to develop film. Only thing I would say is that I hate that there is no parking, but that’s expecting because it’s downtown!
Great service
Great value for development and scan right to url so you can download yourself
Man oh man, I have never had such a great shopping experience as I did at Downtown Camera. I wanted to get back into photography and I haven't shot since the days of the 5DMKII so Pierre was amazing in helping me figure out what I wanted and even let me trial some options to see what fit better. 10/5 experience if I could, they take social distancing seriously and are super helpful. I used to go to Henry's in the past but never again. They make you feel at home if you're a novice or if you're a pro, there are no dumb questions and everyone is super knowledgeable. Thanks again Pierre!
I had an excellent experience here. I was greeted upon entry and store was busy and clean. I went in to do complete passport photos. They saw me right away. The women who was taking my photo was so friendly and kind. She took numerous photos and assisted me with my pose so i would have the best outcome. It printed in 2 Mins and it was only $22. Photos turned out high quality and perfect. They have paid parking on the street. It’s easily accessible by transit. Lots of staff ready to help with any inquiry.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent customer care and a wide variety of products and services at great prices!
I brought a old lens for trade in. Guy told me it is garbage and throw it away. Same day I went to Henry's and they paid me $700 + tax. I asked sales person for Sony G Master lens. He gave me a attitude such as that lens is only for professional photographer, you can't afford it. I left the store without even having a chance to look at the lens. Today thanks to Henry's I got A7Riii with Sony 24-70mm G Master. Will never visit this Downtown Camers store again.
I really love this store! They have everything you need to start taking photos of your favourite things to do things that you like. I totally recommend! The staff is always super helpful.
This is a long time coming review. I have always found what I am looking for here at a reasonable price. They have both new and used items. I am happy with their customer service. I also received a teachers discount which really helps!
Incredibly helpful and passionate staff. I had needed help with a software function on my camera and Bi helped me sort through it until we found a solution. David has such knowledge in the industry and great assistance in selecting equipment and accessories.
My experience here was great, just casually walked in to drop some film and I was pleasantly served by a helpful man named Nam. He was very friendly and were able to talk about other things besides film. I would definitely come back to this place and I recommend this place for anyone looking for anything photography related
Came here to get a picture taken for a visa for a trip to China. They knew exactly what the requirements were, took the picture, cut it, and got me on my way quickly. Oh, and they seemed to be really into amateur and professional photography equipment.
Great service by Pierre. He helped me buying camera which was available as very limited stock. I would recommend their professional services to all professional photographers and film makers out there. Thanks Pierre for your outstanding service.
Friendly staff. Prices and selection were pretty good. They also offer wildlife photo trips, I think. Check them out!
The best camera shop in the city. Period. The staff is super friendly and don't jump on you like car salesmen. I got real and honest advice on what I needed and their prices are the best. If you're in the market for photography equipment, look no further.
A great place for your camera needs. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Reasonable prices, great selection.
Great place for high quality prints
The staff at Downtown Camera is amazing. Every time I go in, they are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. When I bought a digital camera from them two years ago they found me exactly what I was looking for. I've never been happier with a camera purchase, and when I went in this weekend to get them to look at a jammed lens cover, they saved me a ton of money and time by just fixing it for free, on the spot. PLUS I went in a few months ago for a new passport photo and they gave me a full photo shoot that ended up with a really nice looking photo. Just the fact that they could create photogenic passport photos should be enough to have you rushing over!
Good selection, knowledgeable staff. Excellent range of film, feels like a real camera store not a computer shop.
This place beats Henrys and Vistek
The prices were fair (not cheap but fair) and the photos came out incredible quality. Also the service is very good and the online tool is so easy to use.
After striking out at a couple of Toronto camera shops, I called to ask if they sell old school film canisters as we wanted to use them for a kids science activity later in the day (Alka-Seltzer rockets!). They said they absolutely have them, and we’re happy to hold a bag of them for me. The very professional person on the phone, G, insisted on checking to see how many were available, and he took the bag of canisters to the checkout area to hold for me. I was amazed by how helpful G was on the phone. When I arrived to pick up the canisters, another very professional clerk quickly got the bag and even apologized saying usually they have more available to give away. Honestly? I was delighted by how helpful they were for my last minute donation request. This is my new place for all camera needs. Thank you, Downtown Camera for being awesome! Ps Our Beaver Scout group launched some sweet canister rockets tonight!!
Stan and the crew from downtown camera is a fantastic group of guys. They have great personalities and customer service. They are knowledgeable and they are more concerned about making the customer happy. I would highly recommend this camera store to anyone and everyone possible.. this is my favorite place to go!!!
This place rocks! I knew what I was gonna buy but they gave me advices that I would never got on any YouTube video, the service is great and the store is a visual paradise, I would flight 8 hours monthly just to gear up on this store. Greatest. place. Ever.
Staff are so nice, friendly, professional, honest, helpful and sincere particularly Daniel and Sheldon plus....couple others.. They are great credit and pillars to the store
Great service and excellent selection of camera gear - old and new, film and digital. They even scan your 35mm prints as high resolution TIFFs.
Friendly staff, and very helpful. Lots of cool discounts, and very competitive pricing. Definitely my new "go to" place and should be for anyone shooting film.
Great camera shop in downtown Toronto they seemed to stock just about everything; also open Sundays; service a bit weird but I found what I needed.
Terrible customer service, had an account for years with them but will not be going back, i would avoid this place and their ridiculous clip board system, not allot of camera knowledge in that place either.
Fast efficient cordial service. Permanent residency photo experience was seamless. I would recommend anyone visiitng to just pay the extra $10 for a digital copy as this prevents a seamless experience in CIC.
Super friendly staff, reasonable prices for film development. Now it's bigger and better!
Serious. Seriously. But still very accommodating for my kind of amateur goofballery.
Whether you love vintage or new camera equipment this is the place to go. I recently purchased a Pentax LX which was hard to find in such good condition... I trust their warranty on used goods so I buy with confidence!
Cannot be more satisfy about my shopping experience at Downtown Camera. I bought a brand new camera body with couples of new gears such as lenses, additional battery, memory card, backpack etc. I got full explanation and answer to my questions by David. Will recommend him and DT Camera 100%
My film was RUINED in the process of the development. This was the first time in my whole life that I lost a roll with a lab. They offered me one free roll and dev as a compensation. I am sharing my story so that you understand the risk.
Great place for both digital and film photography.
If I could give 6/5 stars I would. My experience is with Patrick who is an absolute asset to the customer experience. Easy to talk to and does not exhibit sales tactics forcing you to buy stuff. He will advise but leaves the decision to me. He did everything he could to get me the Canon eos R6 which was very well appreciated, and very unlike other franchised camera stores (that is not next to DC... the other store with blue and white logo). I highly recommend going to Patrick for your camera gear needs.
Absolutely the best camera store in Toronto. If you love photography, you have to go here.
Absolutely the best place for all things film related in Ontario maybe? Consistently professional development. Really knowledgeable and friendly staff (at all the counters, not only film). It’s an absolute shame to ever feel like I have to get my photos developed anywhere else. There’s a community feel around this shop!
Always a great service and huge selection of films. I come here whenever I can to get my films processed. $10.50 will get you development and totally usable scan, so save your money and go here!
Very helpful staff. One of the associates was able to help me better understand my camera, he made great recommendations, and left a positive impression. The store is well staffed, every cashier was being utilized. No one was standing around idle.
My favourite photography retailer, especially for my analog photography needs. Salespeople are nice and knowledgeable and the department of used gear is pretty unique.
Great store. Good selection
met the coolest staff they know EVERYTHING, I swear the guy i was talking to knew everything from the retail price, the year the camera was made, to the person who designed the camera and other models in the line, they're super glad to answer any of your questions and throw in some extra fun facts and really interesting stories! I found this really engaging and I learned so much about film cameras there prices for film were good, and theres lots of variety, the prices of the film cameras were quite expensive but you get the assurance of knowing that your in good hands. You can tell all the staff are truly passionate about photography and super nice as well, i will definitely be going back there :)
Superb!!! When you want an honest and professional opinion on a camera or accessories, Downtown Camera is the place! The sales representatives are very friendly and knowledgeable and regardless of how small the purchase is, you are still given undivided attention as if you are about to spend thousands of dollars.
What a phenomenal store. The customer service was excellent
Place is amazing, people are very helpful. The camera wall is a must see for photography enthusiasts. Awesome service.
Huge store, and amazing collection of cameras and photography gear. I was looking for some vintage film Camera stuff and archival products and I found everything. During my short visit, I could notice the huge collection of film cameras section, then the collection of tripods and camera bags. These were occupying 1/3rd of the store (assuming the store is just one floor). I would be definitely visiting again and check out some gear and possibly get my films developed and scanned there. I will try and update my review on their services as I get a chance.
Consistently excellent quality film processing/scanning and have always been on time. Very knowledgeable staff. Have taken my film to many other places in the city and the results can be inconsistent. At DT Camera I've had nothing but a great experience every time I come back.
Arguably the best camera store in Toronto, especially for film photographers. They have an amazing collection of films and chemicals. Film processing is also reasonably priced.
I have been coming here for film developing for 10+ years. I love the service I receive from the employees, always friendly and helpful (and they remember my name even if I haven't seen them in years!). I always have good results with their developing--I get 120 and 35mm done, and no complaints there. They recently moved locations (still on Queen St E) and they seem to be busier than ever, which is great. Downtown Camera is my go-to place for any film developing.
Outstanding customer service (had the pleasure of dealing with George over the phone for some inquiries over my order) and generally a store you can feel great about going to. Clean, very well priced, quick film development, and a convenient location. The only place that I will go for my photography needs. The renovation looks fantastic as well. Whole heartedly recommend!
Wide selection of gear and film, and the most helpful staff ever!
Knowledgeable staff, great products, plus one of the few places left that stocks and develops film. The analog photography club is great. Highly recommended.
I have bought lot of stuff from downtown camera, they always have good deals and prices are better then famous camera store down the street.
My go to camera store for anything camera / film related in Toronto! Was recommended by a friend to check out Downtown Cameras, and could not be happier with their level of service / friendly staff. Solid store with knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Very friendly and knowledgeable service here. When I shop here I feel like I'm shopping with a friend who will give me good advice. I never go anywhere else, Downtown is the best!
Shipped my order super quick even though the same item is out of stock in a lot of other places. Great experience ????
George is the best. He is a professional photographer, and I had best experience with him. Very respectful and professional. Great customer service ????
Everyone is super nice and helpful and I heard they invented the camera?? It's great
Gear galore. New, nearly new, used and vintage - DC has the best assortment of photographic tools supported by friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great atmosphere. A must see spot for any photographer.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. I feel really comfortable as a beginner in film photography coming to this store because the general vibe is good. If you're a student, you can avail of discounts for processing and film rolls. They have photo-printers in store; bring your USB or download their app on your phone. They also have an extensive wall of used cameras and lenses. Overall, it's a good shop, possibly the best in the city.
I've had my 32mm films developed in a place close to me just because of the convenience and the cheap price. I decided to mail it in to Downtown Camera just to try if they will do a better job and after reading all the reviews here on Google. Wow! Super impressed how they developed and scanned my films. It was pretty quick too, and they send you an email so you can see your photos right away while waiting for prints (or in my case, a CD). I will send in all my films to them from now on:)
Great, knowledgeable service, excellent prices. They know what they're doing there. Highly recommended. They have everything you'd ever want.
Good stock, but awful service on my first visit. Slow to come to my attention, slower to actually deal with my needs... It took 3 staff to finally answer my query and that person was rather rude. 2nd visit was much improved, quick call to check stock and very polite.
Super Awesome and Friendly Place. I got my wedding photos done here in large print and they turned out infinitely times better than the usual walmart and shoppers. Ameetz helped me pick out a frame and save big bucks on custom framing.
Love the staff. They know their business better than anyone else. Great customer service
The new digs are nice! I'm still not sure I follow the product organization structure, but I'm not an expert. The staff were friendly and helpful. The best of the camera shops in this part of town.
Patrick works at Downtown Camera and I have been going to see Patrick for for camera and accessory purchases for about 10 years. He always makes his clients feel really appreciated and offers the very best in customer care. I live in Bowmanville and it is worth the drive to downtown Toronto to see Patrick. Patrick also told me that I can just call if I'm not able to make the drive and he can arrange shipping for me. It's worth it to go to Downtown Camera to see Patrick. He's the best!
Always amazing service - even during the pandemic! The quality of my photos are 10/10 and the staff is very friendly and very knowledgeable!
I've never written a Google review before but after experiencing the amazing service that I did today, I felt like I had to! I came in today with some hopes in getting my film camera's rewind knob replaced as it fell apart the other day. The in-house repair team was extremely helpful and very kind with getting me sorted. Massive thank you to Nigel for helping me out, he was super kind, extremely helpful, and very professional! Thank you so, so much Nigel + team - camera feels brand new!
They have a great used equipment department and the services they provide, particularly with film, are excellent. The only downside is that the layout leaves little room to browse and staff are mostly behind counters at the sides of the store. I appreciate the old school aesthetic, but the style of shopping that it encourages is dated.
Service was quick and well explained.. Customer service is great and so are the prices . The boxing week discount also helped.
Really impressed by Downtown Camera. There's a new reality with retail today making it even more important to establish and keep a good customer experience, from the purchase to after-sale. These guys went above and beyond and as a result they'll have me as a customer for life.
The best service, you will befriend the staff there and find yourself wandering in for a chat if you’re ever in the area!
Like most camera stores, I was just browsing and wanted information on a camera. When someone came over I asked questions and when he found out I wasn't buying, promptly told me that the price of the camera would go up soon. Tactics like that will never bring me back, will buy some place else when the time comes.
I bought a fujifilm xf50-140mmf2.8 today from you guys but when i got home and unbox it was dusty. My guess is it's a open box or a demo lens because when i was about to update the firmware it was already up to date ver.1.31. This is the second time that I bought a dusty product from you guys. I'm not checking the products that I bought from you because i trust you guys but you made me have a trust issue to your store. I called you guys and told you about the situation when i saw the dust on the lens, you said that i can return it and exchange to another copy of xf50-140mm. I know it's know a curbside pick up but please unbox it in front of the buyer so that we know that the item is a good copy. I hope that this is the last time that I'll buy a dusty product from you guys or I'll go to a different store
Great place to develop your film and to purchase a wide variety of film rolls !
The best film/camera store in Toronto. Staff are super knowledgeable & helpful.
I came here for my PR-Card pictures, Had an amazing experience! Never saw such a professional and passionate photographer like George. The prices are great as well ????????
The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful! Years of experience selling camera and passionate about photography. Sure, you could get cheaper prices shopping online but you get what you pay for. Their used equipment has been throughly inspected and is guaranteed. Good luck getting that type of customer service and knowledge on Amazon.
I had a roll of 120 film I needed to developed with the exposure 1 stop up and the prints came out perfect, this was a few years ago but I'm on the look-out for a new film camera.
Used to be great, now won’t even let you in the store
This place is really great if you need to have photos developed frequently or even just every once in a while. I have brought many disposable cameras and rolls of film here and the staff is always so kind and patient. Plus they have the amazing option of dropping off film past hours of operation using a handy drop off box! You just print and fill (or write out on paper) a form stating what you want done to the film/negatives, from there they send a PayPal request you can pay instantly. When ready they send any JPEG's to your email and you can pick up prints whenever you can! Super great service that many of my out of city friends come to Toronto for!
I had a great experience at Downtown Camera with passport photos. This is the best place if you want professional and nicely looking pictures. I went to a few places before and my photos always looked very unattractive and poor quality. At downtown they use proper professional lightning and the staff is super nice. I recommend it to everyone.
Store has knowledgeable staff. Well stocked used items department. Deals can be had.
Very good process for dropping off film, you don't even have to go inside!
Patrick was fabulous. I was having trouble finding a hard to get lens. Patrick was able to find it and have it shipped to myself with out any extra hassle. The entire staff worked to make everything happen despite the current situation with COVID. Attached is my first test shot with the new lens. I am ecstatic to say the least.
George has very good customer service. He is very professional and kind. He was very quick and helpful. Thanks for help. We made on time ????????
You can find some great deals for used cameras and equipment, even accessories at a good price. They have a large amount if brands, so you'll certainly find what you are looking for. The people working there are cool and very helpful.
Friendly staff that are highly knowledgeable! A good selection of used gear too...just head to the back of the store.
Stan has been my go to camera guy since he started in a 16x16 box of a store on Elm Street 35 years ago. if someone knows the business better than him I would like to meet them. Good luck with the move to and even larger location!
I bought two pro DSLR cameras and a bunch of accessories from these guys. They know cameras, they understand your needs. Don't be shy to ask for a discount. They won't be able to give you a big one for cameras (since profit margins on cameras are pretty small), but you can get a nice one for accessories.
Incredible place, they've got everything, just go and ask any of the staff, super knowledgeable. They always have film developed early even if you paid for a week turnaround
Good stock levels, fair pricing, knowledgeable staff & wide selection of products
Nice location; across from St. Mike's hospital on Queen. Pretty good selection and knowledgeable staff. I'm not a camera buff but I needed an accessory for my tripod. The rep was patients and showed me options; it was refreshing not to be looked at like a tool because you aren't versed in the photography world
Best photography store for analog film and digital photo/video accessories plus a host of services. Excellent value on new/used equipment and great knowledgeable, friendly staff! Now just moved to a brand new location at 89 Queen St East ????
These guys are next door to Henry's, and despite having to compete with a big name, they've been there for as long as I can remember. The best reason I can think of is their obviously better customer service. They always find the time to help you out, and never treat you like an idiot if you have questions. They'll walk you through all the features of a camera, and demonstrate so you can buy with confidence.
Great place for a hobbyist to up their photography. With a high variety from a lot of brands as well as a crowded used shelf to shamelessly experiment with your equipment. Customer service is simplistic and right at the counter. The store is very intimate so you can easily converse with a customer service rep from the other side of the store (Be polite, of course). Not much aside from cameras, lenses and accessories, it's a great place to apply your research if you want to get into photography.
Staff was very nice. Even though they didn't have what I wanted, the staff still spent time with me trying on the camera and gave local guides on watches.
This shop is most useful if you would like to find something rare, but they have all staff. Most of all I enjoy the atmosphere, feels like home and friendly people! Definitely, I am going to return! :)
The staff was very helpful, was able to get a hold of a 18-105 when I called in. Lot's of stock and variety for used and new stuff. You are able to interact with the camera's on display. I was able to bundle some stuff and get a small discount as well as price match with Henry's. Would buy from here again!
Such a great place!!! Went here to get my film developed and it was quick and easy, everyone in the store was very helpful. This is my new go to for anything camera related :)
Best way to take full advantage of the store is to sign up for the membership.
I come from out of town, drop off my film, and have them ship me my negatives (and copies!) within 2 weeks for the best price around. And the bonus is that they actually Dropbox your scanned copies before shipping, so you know how each of your exposures turned out! So awesome!
I know it's covid but the process of buying a camera was as slow as waiting for the film to print. Nonetheless, great service and very helpful.
Out of the five or so labs I've tried in MTL, Ottawa, and Toronto, I can confidently say that this lab delivers some of the best scans. Probably top two favourite labs ever (the first being Bayeux based off in the UK). Really solid stuff, can't wait to send some more rolls over!
I just bought a new lens at Downtown Camera and I love it. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I knew what I wanted it to do. Faraz Razavi listened patiently and brought out some great options for me to choose from. He was kind, informative, knowledgeable, and spent all the time with me that I needed to make a decision I felt great about about. Thanks so much Faraz! I look forward to you helping me with my next purchase!
Best place to buy film in the city. They have the cheapest prices and their AM/FM membership is a fantastic deal! Love shopping here.
Had a lens in stock that I couldn't find elsewhere in town. Sales guy was knowledgeable and friendly. They took my amex too, which was nice. Great selection of gear.
Very helpful
Best place to get film developed in the city.
This is the best place to get your film developed and to purchase film. The variety of film is massive and the price is best compared to other places around Toronto(recommend to be a member if you do film photography ). They also have many new film stocks when they come out. You can develop C-41, black and white and slide film. The is many options for scanning and also getting prints. The customer service is always great there and staff are really friendly. The only thing that is kind of negative is the time to get you film scans because they are in high demand.
I just bought an awesome Canon bag for only 35$ with 50% off.. Very nice staff, helpful and kind.. A man who was helping me was Asian, he is a sweetheart! Come to him for help!
Really great place.. service is amazing. Michael Delatte is very knowledgeable and helped me to buy the right equipment
Great place for photography enthusiasts and professionals. They have a huge film selection and dark room equipment.
Very helpful and quick.
The best place in Toronto to drop off film or buy camera equipment. They are so kind and helpful 100% of the time they always go above and beyond I love it. Wouldn’t drop off film anywhere else ????
Thank you Pierre, for the outstanding customer service!
Went in looking for a new wildlife lens for my camera. Staff was very helpful and patient. I was with a salesman, John who was exceptionally patient and showed me 10+ lens up to and a bit after the store was closing. He even suggested that I wait and do a bit more research before making a big purchase. Will definitely be returning to this store, the customer service here is excellent!
such a unique, personal, hands-on, hyper knowledgeable form of customer service here that is hard to find anywhere!
Always have a good experience here. Friendly staff and efficient service. I recommend this place for film developing!
Great customers service
Knowledgable staff, good service, prices are comparable to other camera stores. If Henry's doesn't have what you want there's a good chance they will.
For great service, advices and deals, this is your 1 stop location. George, Harry, Stan and the other staff are the best people you can get to help you out finding the appropriate gear for your needs. And George is probably the best guy in town to take passport photos: they were absolutely awesome! The best photos I've ever had taken for my passport and he makes sure that it meets all the regulations. Downtown Camera is simply the best camera shop in Toronto! I love that place! I can't recommend a camera shop more highly than this one.
One of the most knowledgeable sales person works here. If you're in the market for a new camera or gear. See Patrick. He's the best!
When our Dental camera died yesterday afternoon, I called Downtown Camera to get a new one delivered ASAP - as we needed it for appointments the next day. Kenny was very helpful, camera was in stock and was shipped out immediately. We received it at 10am this morning in North Bay - great service!!! Thank you.
Great online experience! We ordered a camera that came in faulty [i think a software issue with the camera?] but they provided a prompt response and return label for a fast swap to a new working camera. Kind and efficient service.
Just bought a camera from here, helped by Harry. Harry should be the poster boy for what excellent customer service is supposed to be like. Thank you Harry.
Great service, good selection of used gear, lots of the latest stuff too. My go to photo shop in Toronto
Took my Canon Rebel SL1 in for a sensor cleaning. Despite being very busy and having limited services due to COVID, they were able to complete it within two hours (thank you Jonathan) and for a very reasonable same-day price. Also picked up a new memory card which was also a great price. A downtown gem. Even as someone who doesn't use my camera that often, I look forward to shopping here again.
Hopped in to get a quick review of a vintage camera that I had bought from FB Marketplace. Very impressed by the assistance provided. Look out for Nigel. He is an expert and a very humble guy. Also bought a new Sony from them. Beginning my photography journey with the experts backing me up! And yes the shop in itself is overwhelming. Swarmed by cameras from centuries! Must visit if in Toronto!
One of my favorite places for photography gear in Toronto. Definitely a milestone!
Amazing selection and knowledge stuff
Loving my Pentax, LX
Fantastic people and service
Very good service all around, and by far one of if not the best photo labs in Toronto.
always great customer service. makes me happy to have a place like this for the film community :)
Thank you Dave for answering my questions about film and film cameras. Im very appreciate of your patience and your knowledge, and trying to inform me everything I should know. Cheers!
I fell upon this place because Henry's was closed on a Monday when I was ready to pull the trigger. Ameet (the salesperson) was absolutely outstanding. He walked me through all my options for my budget, did a correct procedure for introducing accessories and closed the sale. The store is overwhelming but if you let the staff take control of the questions and guide you, that is the way to go. Ameet, if you are listening, I would hire you for my business in a heartbeat. Roll on.....
Came from Montreal for my wedding anniversary and had to stop by. Great store with a great selection of film. They do what they can to help during Covid times by having a good system for pickup.
Worked with Patrick...Fantastic experience. Truly went above and beyond. Thank you!
Downtown Camera is now my main source for film and developer solutions in the city and they have a fantastic selection, stocking some of the old favourites, cheap shots and newer gems (yes people are still making new film). What really makes it a pleasure to give them my business is their customer services is awesome. I had one order I changed to a pickup, no issue, I had another pickup order I changed to a delivery, no issue, Kenny, the dude I was emailing with was really kind and accommodating and that’s what you get when you support Toronto businesses, good services from kind people. They have a lifetime customer in me now and if you’re into anything photography related, I definitely suggest you check them out, their covid protections in person are very very good, the top end of what I’ve seen around the city, I felt safe the entire time I was there and when this is over I look forward to spending an hour perusing their wares and film (which includes cool expired film from around the world).
THE camera store for film camera enthusiasts. This is where I buy most of my camera gear and my go-to place for film developing. A great place for beginners, hobbyists, etc. as the staff is always very accommodating and goes out of their way to help clients.
Good place, but their price increased a lot, and their price of equipment are not comparable with Amazon. However, I do understand their efforts to run such a large camera shop, and I will support their business sometimes.
Had my 12 week old sons passport photo taken and everyone was great in store!! The staff were all very friendly and amazing with my son. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes!
Every time I come in here the staff are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Being a beginner when I first started coming here, they've always been patient, generous and, most importantly of all, not patronising when I've asked for help. I must have been served by most staff members here by now and every one of them is that nice. Best of all, today I was a bit hot after coming in off my bike and the fella serving me put a little mini fan on the counter to cool me off while he went to find my negatives. Beat that for service!
Popped in for a passport photo and h found a great selection of gear. Staff were helpful and I probably got the best passport pic I've ever had.
They're nice and easy to communicate. ????
I've been going here since last year when I wanted to try film photography for the first time. All the staff are very nice and I'm thankful that they haven't laughed at my novice questions. Their new store location down the street from their old one is also very nice and has new print on demand photo stations which are great. I will be a long time customer here, I think, until I one day get better and photography! Attached are some photos I've had scanned and developed here.
Excellent experience as a beginner in bird photography. Options explained well and staff were very helpful putting together a starter kit for me to learn the basics. Highly recommend Downtown Camera.
I love this place, I met Shem great customer service...thanks
I went there to take a photo ID. They were so welcoming and I was satisfied with the result and the whole process. Great customer service.
Really good photo store with great customer service.
Downtown Camera is by far the #1 store in Toronto for all your camera/photography & photofinishing needs. Greg, Alie & Vy were all so very helpful, patient & professional In Assisting me with my photo project for my beloved Mom. They helped me every step of the way & made a difficult time very seamless for me. Yes- I did spend a lot of money there including buying several frames too-but it’s not what motivated any of them. They were all so happy to help me & their service was outstanding & unwavering every time/day I stopped by. Their customer service skills were exceptional. If you need a camera store look no further. You won’t be disappointed. Kudos Greg, Alie & Vy! Thank you ????
Excellent experience here. Ameet (I hope that's his name) was very useful and spent plenty of time explaining things to me and helping me out with my new and old film camera!
The staff is super friendly and they'll give you very good film that is absolutely not expensive. They're very fast at developing, my online download was ready right the day after ordering it. And the cameras on the wall behind the teller is worth seeing.
Friendly, super knowledgeable staff. Helped me pick out a decent case for my a6000 that I wouldn't have otherwise found. Has worked for a year thus far and no signs of breakage so I definitely trust the experience and judgement of the people working here! Will definitely swing by next time to get more of my gear from here (as my wallet allows!).
This place is amazing. They did an amazing job analyzing my needs and did NOT over sell me. I will be going back for sure.
Had my UK passport photos taken her - $22 for 2- same as elsewhere but very impressed with the knowledgeable, professional staff and equipment.
Great service and knowledgeable team. I'm new to all of this and needed some guidance. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, helpful and informative.
Very efficient.. they called me once orders were confirmed (which was really quick) and when I got there.. I got my stuff quickly. All curb-side pickup.. maybe one day I’ll get a chance to go inside :)
Been going to Downtown Camera for all my photography gear and supply for both film and digital for little over a year now, amazing selections of new gear at an amazing price! feel free to compare it to Aden Henry or even amazon! The staffs have great understanding of the gear they sell, and provide great recommendation. And most importantly, amazing film stock!!! ( they recently just upgrade their film fridge too!) I cant thank downtown camera enough for all the effort they put in to keep film alive in Toronto. They carry the cheapest and freshest film stock you can get your hands on. amazon is quite abit more expensive compare to DC, and DC offer customer appreciation card on top of already low film prices. Scanning+process service is great, and they do email the picture to you too if you are unable to drop in often enough.
It was good experience, despite COVID limitations.
Always have had a great experience here. The staff are friendly and helpful and the store has a great selection of stuff. My go-to camera shop in Toronto.
Nicer than most of my co-workers
This place has the best customer service I've experienced literally anywhere, let alone at a camera store. The staff is friendly and incredibly helpful, especially to an amateur like me. It's impossible to overstate how good this place is. If you need any camera stuff or help in Toronto, Downtown Camera is the absolute best.
Always great service at Downtown Camera. Their staff are knowledgable, friendly and give thoughtful recommendations on products. I’ve only developed photos and purchased film here. They do offer same day, next day or econo development, scans and prints. I have received great quality images. They also have AMFM membership for perks such as a free roll of film and discounts, totally worth it!
Unsafe covid practices.
Fantastic selection of equipment and amazing customer service. Really enjoy shopping here.
Everyone’s always so helpful at Downtown Camera - amazing learning environment. Their prices are incredibly reasonable and I’m always happy with how my film photos turn out. Having them scan the photos and email to me is a huge time-saver as well.
Very knowledgeable staff. Excellent service.
Love the service here. Got my film processed and scanned and it was very economical too! Fair pricing.
Went in for infant passport pictures and the staff were very patient and accommodating. George, who took my daughter's picture, was very helpful and even sang to her when she cried. Kudos!
Go-to store for any photographic equipment. They have a wide selection of cameras and lenses. They even have a pre-owned section where you can buy items at a lower price. Last time when I needed to get my passport pictures I went here, and they were prompt and friendly. Highly knowledgeable staff. Stan is awesome!
Best film selection of any camera store I've ever been to. Lots of rare and even discontinued film stocks for reasonable prices.
Amazing Service. First time into Downtown camera and very pleased with the prices and service. Thanks to John Witcher for all of your help and knowledge with my camera. Very happy with the results. Tim
Whats with the personal escorts around the store? For a photographer that likes to look around equipment THIS IS NOT THE STORE FOR YOU ! I use to love the vibe at the previous location. Lets hope after Covid Downtown Camera gets back to that vibe.
I regularly come here to purchase film and get it developed. I always receive great customer service from their photography experts
My favorite camera store. Really nice staff, organized space where things are easy to find.
I love this store the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They have a lot of membership discounts and loyalty programs to keep you coming back!
Amazing staff and camera gear selection
Staff was so friendly and helpful!! Way better than henrys
Just moved to the city and started using film again for a very special project. A close friend recommended the place and I fell in love the first time I walked in. The staff is wonderful, the film processing is great. Highly recommend it!
Ameet was friendly and helpful. Quickly filled out my order for film and developer...and signed me up to a 'savings' program for regular customers. I'll save 25% on all Kodak stuff from then on. I would 100% recommend this business.
I've been getting my film photos developed here. I've always been happy with the final product. They are efficient and the staff is always friendly.
This place is sweeeeet! Real nostalgic going in and checking in some film cameras. Thanks Nigel for helping me choose a solid camera. Hope to take some sweet photos and show them to you someday ????
Wonderful service. Over all good experience.
These guys are the best in the business! My wife and I decided to buy a real camera for situations where our phones won't do (travel, big events). We're new to this stuff, but the staff at Downtown Camera were great. Every person I talked to seemed like an expert. They helped us find a camera that fit our needs but that was also in our price range, and were incredibly patient as we asked what to them must've seemed like very basic questions. When I found that a competitor was offering a better deal they were quick to match the price. The pickup and actual purchase of the camera was also very impressive given the current COVID restrictions. They scheduled a pick up time that was convenient for us, had protective barriers up at checkout, restricted the number of people in the store, and offered plenty hand sanitizer. Overall, if you live in the GTA and need anything having to do with cameras you'd be foolish to look anywhere else. Heck, even if you live outside the GTA you should still turn to these guys for your camera questions and needs. They're the best in the business.
This place caters to all your photography needs. Amateur vs pro, new or used, buy or rent, digital or film.. whatever you have in mind they can serve it up.
Bought a camera here. Staff was helpful and patient as i chose between two models. A little slow when waiting for an extra battery to come in stock- not that that was their fault. Great store, would recommend
I am writing to command John Witcher for his incredible patience and elegance. I have never in my entire life met a salesman so kind, caring and, patient. I have spent numerous hours with John over 3 days trying to decide what camera to buy and not once did he make me feel badly for doing so. I did buy a camera but there was a problem with it and when I brought it back John said to me ever so calmly: Don't worry we will find you a camera" and we did. This is definitely a great store and everyone should shop there. John, thank you for your generosity, Andree Gagne
They went beyond to help me great location for all your photo needs
Very friendly and professional service. Its one stop for all shop with kind personal. You can get a good professional advice, especially when it comes to film photography. They still do film development!
Always knowing exactly what you need. And not just that. Very knowledgeable about theirs stuff
Got a passport photo here. Service was very fast and pleasant. Greeted as soon as I walked in and asked if I need assistance, even directed me to the passport office afterward.
Great camera shop. Staff is really friendly and very helpful. Lots of product on display even though space is limited. Recommended.
Fun friendly staff who make you feel welcome and apart of the photography community the second you walk in. I love the fact they deal with film and carry a huge stock of film, cameras and accessories. After my first visit I knew that this would be the only place I would shop photography from then on. It's a hour and a half drive from where I'm from but worth every KM. I recommend this place to anyone from amatures photographers to pros. There is a great vibe and community feel here that you won't find at camera stores.
I have been going to Downtown Camera for years now and the staff are always friendly, always helpful and treat me like I just walked into their home. I have to say, I look forward to going there. I have used the full range of services and I get great service every time. They always have stock and they are very professional. Considering they are downtown and retail can be challenging, the staff are always upbeat. I'd like to give a shout out to Carly--you are sooooo knowledgeable about what you do! Well done!
I had a really bad experience today. My boyfriend was called this morning. The sales who pick up the phone was really rude. We are interested to fuji camera and we cant wait to have it. But we live in mississauga and cuz the Covid-19. We choose to call the store first. Then we have the worse experience ever. We won't go back again. I'm a photography student. I will not introduce my classmates this camera store too.
Helpful and very understanding team. Would like to thank them for going the extra mile with the photos I needed for my dad's funeral ceremony. My family and I truly appreciate it.
Just went in for the first time today to get my first film camera and I’m happy that I did. it’s gonna be my go to camera shop in city from now on. Good price, amazing customer service, the staffs are all very knowledgeable and helpful.
John really helped me out as I got a new camera and am totally new to DSLRs. Highly recommend them and they have basically everything you could ever need!
Amazing store. Heard they are changing locations. Can't wait to see their bigger store. Everything is priced fairly and they print photos.
I did not expect them to have the lens I needed urgently but they did. Great selection.
My first visit was during phase two of covid regulations and I have to say, it’s one of most organized shops in terms of safety and cleanliness. Was greeted upon arrival and the entire experience of developing my film for the first time was super quick and easy. Each person I’ve encountered have given me such pleasant service with care. If you’re a student there are available discount offers with student ID and other programs to save for long term if you end up coming back around often! Shout outs to Nigel, explained basics of point and shoot film cameras to me and was very patient with my questions. This place is definitely a hot 10/10 for me! :)
Very busy but for good reason! The staff were very helpful and they have an amazing selection of new and vintage equipment. If you're into film, they have a loyalty program which earns you free film developing. Highly recommend this place.
friendly & helpful staff, photos came out great and easy to download, would come back
Is a good constomer services good staff so happy
Absolutely love this place for all my camera needs, very friendly staff when newcomers arrive and they welcome you to the family with open arms!
Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly they carry a great stock of Digital and Analog equipment/supplies and Process most film types.
read the reviews and have been there a few times to advice and side items.... anyways I talked with Stan about my tripod and the problem of it shaking when all the adjustments are tighten. He said bring it in and let's take a look and see if it can be corrected. Went today and I was thinking maybe saturday not a good day because the store might be busy. After serving a customer and more than willing helped me and fixed the problem. Their service and knowledge is outstanding best in the city!!!
Service is always fast, helpful, and knowledgeable here. I always appreciate the attentive and efficient help I receive!
This place is absolutely incredible! They have absolutely anything camera related, and if it's currently not in stock - store will still get it for you. I've found some rare lenses, cameras and accessories that I would never expect to find there. Customer service is a whole different story - person at the checkout will ensure that you are 100% happy with your new purchases, and you clearly know how to use it. And the most likely that person will end up being your photofriend eventually. Every trip to this store is and adventure, and unique experience.
Best customer service EVER!! Curb side pick up and online ordering is super efficient, the film developing process is a breeze, and any questions I have are answered quickly. The staff is super friendly and makes shopping here a pleasurable experience!!
Appreciate the helpfulness of the staff. has definitly earned my loyalty
Amazing!
