I contacted Alpine Peak Photography and spoke with Sharon, who was very accommodating and attentive to my questions. We scheduled our session for March, when my husband and I vacationed in Banff. We had the pleasure of working with Malcolm, who picked us up at our hotel and took us around town to some beautiful locations. He was awesome. Happy. Knowledgable about the town. Fun to be around. And he took beautiful pictures. To top it all off, Malcolm knew we were headed out of town a couple of days later and made it a point to get our images to us before we left. I was reluctant to hire a photographer without a recommendation from a friend, all the way from the Philadelphia area, but I couldn't be more thrilled with the experience or the pictures. They were extremely helpful in planning and organizing our small wedding. We were uncertain as to our ceremony location and they were very helpful in offering a number of suggestions. On the day of our wedding, Malcolm also took charge in helping arrange our guests for the ceremony which was very much appreciated. We definitely should have planned our ceremony out a little more carefully, but thanks to Malcolm, it really didn't matter. Malcolm's photographs turned out beautifully; he didn't blink at the last-minute inclusion of our dog in our photos and he made us feel at ease during the photography. Overall, I'd strongly recommend Alpine Peak Photography to anyone looking for professional, talented and personable wedding photographers.

We had hoped that if we paid this much for photos, we would be sure to get our money's worth (you get what you pay for, right?) but sadly we were incredibly disappointed. I will say though, that Patti, the assistant for the day, was absolutely phenomenal, very helpful, and went above and beyond. The quality of the photos we received was also excellent, although the editing was poor. We were told that we could not consult directly with the photographer in the weeks prior to the wedding, and we had to do our planning through someone in the office, and although Sharon was lovely, this led to our actual photographer being completely unprepared and not knowing what we wanted, and he never cared enough to ask either. We also assumed that when the cost went up to have an 'assistant' there, that that meant we were paying for two cameras, but that was not the case. So we were not able to get photos of both of us at any moments (like when we saw each other at the ceremony for the first time) unless we were both within shot of one lens. We found that Roger had an arrogant and nonchalant attitude, and when we made suggestions even Patti agreed but Roger would say no and not make another suggestion, yet he seemed to be doing everything off-the-cuff anyway. We did not want our photos taken inside the venue, that was never the plan, yet they were taken indoors in front of a mirror with a bathroom sign in the reflection and when I asked to move elsewhere was told no. For our outdoor photos Roger brought us through a filthy snowbank with dirty snow 3 feet high and of course I was in a white dress and heels and came very close to falling right in the bank. I had expected they would have a place prepared for us, however his only other suggestion was a community skating rink (seriously??!!). We were told they knew the best places in Canmore, and didn't want to micromanage, assuming that they are the professionals and should know best, however after the wedding our guests showed us photos of several places around town that would have been so much better for photos. And if the plan was always to go through deep snow to get good clean snow in the shots then that's great but they should have brought a shovel to help us get through it or else found somewhere with a path. They did not take individual photos of our bridal party members, nor did they get proper photos of the groom and his groomsmen which we sadly did not notice at the time. This is a HUGE oversight for a company that does wedding photos regularly that I could not believe!! Roger also didn't notice or care about the clutter in the rooms we got ready in (for example, there is a beautiful photo of me sitting on the bed in my dress, but there is deodorant laying on the bed in the background, making it a photo that I will never want to print). Overall the lack of communication, lack of preparation, and not being asked what we wanted on that day was very unfortunate, especially considering what we paid. Lastly, when I emailed the owner to request some additional editing due to the poor indoor background, and I provided some honest feedback in a very courteous manner, she did not care one bit and only stated that she would pass my comments on to Patti & Roger.

My husband and I eloped in Canmore at the Bear and Bison Inn and Alpine Peak was recommended by the Inn. After reviewing their work online, we knew they'd be a good choice. Neither of us had worked with a professional photographer before and we both expected the experience to be awkward (because both of us can be awkward) but it turned out to be a LOT of fun! Roger was amazing and truly made me feel like a beautiful bride, which was captured in the photos. He effectively used our short timeframe to take hundreds of photos. By the next day, we had received an email with several photos so we could post them online. Within a couple of weeks, we received a flash drive with the photos not only in color and B&W version, but also print and web versions. I wouldn’t have changed anything any my wedding photography experience.

I’ve recommended him to another bride, and her photos were amazing too. He was great with locations, ideas, poses. We wore out before he did. He knew all the hotel staff and worked well with both guests and staff. He met me on the mezzanine for bridal portraits, and he set up “the reveal” in the lobby. He told us the flowers would wilt outside (no one else had). He was friendly and funny. We eloped, and I felt like my best friend was there with me!!!

Our photographer Roger met us at the hotel, it was a very busy day at the Fairmont Banff Springs so already some quick creativity and knowledge of the hotel was on our side as Roger adapted and flexed to make sure we got some really gorgeous photos inside the hotel despite it's busyness. We also had some weather issues to contend with but Roger made sure that once the skies cleared we were outside for our much anticipated nature scenes, wow! Since we were having an out of country destination wedding in an area we knew little about it was important to find vendors who communicated effectively. Sharon, Roger and Malcolm were great! In February 2018 we travelled from Scotland to Banff for my daughter’s wedding at Sunshine Mountain Resort. My daughter booked Malcolm Carmichael from Alpine Peak Photograph to take the photographs. All of my family ski to a good standard and my daughter who’s wedding it was is a ski instructor, race trainer and has competed in ski races at a high level. She had always planned to get married at the top of a snow covered mountain and had hoped that the wedding photographer would be able to ski around the mountain with her. How fortunate was she to get Malcolm as her photographer, he is not only an excellent photographer but also an excellent skier and has taken photographs for national ski teams. He also has an extensive knowledge of the runs at Sunshine Mountain. On the day of the wedding Malcolm joined us early and relaxed everyone before taking photographs of the pre wedding preparations in the hotel. Once out on the slopes he continued his very professional approach and managed to get some fantastic photographs of the wedding service. Following the service Malcolm skied with us for a considerable time taking us around the mountain to numerous locations where it was very clear he had planned how to get the best back drops to his photographs. Malcolm got a small selection of the photographs to us very quickly so that we had something to show to people when we were discussing the wedding (something my wife took great pleasure in doing). Once Malcolm had edited the photographs he sent us an extensive album of what I can only describe as wonderful photographs of a day I will never forget. Everyone who has seen the photographs from the wedding have commented on how stunning they are. I don’t know if it is just his natural nature but Malcolm appeared to enjoy being with us and taking photographs for us. If you are looking for an excellent photographer who really appears to enjoy what he is doing I can highly recommend Malcolm Carmichael and Alpine Peak Photography.
