At the beginning of March of 2016 we bought a coupon from Photos Unlimited (located in Wal Mart at 1203 Parsons Road NW, Edmonton). This coupon cost us $50 and included a half hour photoshoot on sight anywhere in the city, and a membership to a Photos Unlimited club which would allow us to go to any location and get a free sheet of pictures for one year.
When trying to decide whether to purchase this coupon, we asked the sales associate many questions. The most important ones were whether this membership would really be useable at all of the locations? to which she assured us it would be. When would the membership begin? To which she replied when we got our membership after our on sight photoshoot. And does the coupon expire, as we have concerns about using it in the immediate future? To which she said it wouldn’t expire.
So we bought the coupon planning for a family photoshoot for easter. Only they weren’t ready for us at Easter. Instead they were ready just as we were leaving on a family trip. When we got back we forgot about the coupon for a couple months and remembered it in the fall. So we called at the beginning of September and scheduled our photoshoot for October 15th, which was the earliest date available.
The photoshoot was alright, but when we picked up the pictures (which took over a month and half to be ready) and asked about the membership we were told that part of the coupon was discontinued and that we wouldn’t get any form of membership.
The membership was the main reason we bought the coupon in the first place. We are really disappointed in this sudden change of policy when we specifically asked the sales associate if the coupon would expire. We had been planning to get pictures of our daughter done for Christmas and Thanksgiving and her first birthday, all with this membership, but it was discontinued.
After specifically asking about the expiry policy of the coupon, and about this membership, they went behind out backs and discontinued it. We are extremely disappointed and feel that we were befrauded of our money.
When I spoke to the regional management they said that they had the right to change the conditions on the certificate (even though we paid for it) and that the membership program was canceled. They offered us a free sheet of prints from our photo shoot, but that is nothing near the actual value of the membership that we were looking forward to using.
I would suggest that anyone reading this look for another portrait studio, and if you do decide to use this one DO NOT PURCHASE ANY PROMOTIONAL CERTIFICATES OR COUPONS. They will change the terms and conditions without notice and not even apologize.
