I thought I would drop in to tap into some camera knowledge to find a lens to fit a particular accessory and it turned out to be a complete waste of my time. The salesperson actually complained that to find a lens to fit they might have to open many boxes?? Isn't that what salesmanship is? He never even actually consulted with anyone else at the counter? After all I was willing to buy whatever I needed to fit this on my Canon DSLR and I was turned away.

We were standing outside to comply with the limited capacity but we were told to go OUTSIDE of the line. But we were actually standing by the line. Then we wanted to take a passport picture of our baby. It was a horrible experience! The staff was quite unfriendly and did not cooperate as the baby was getting fuzzy and uncomfortable. Then they asked us to leave because they have other customers in a row. So, from my experience with this shop, please don't stop by if you want to take a picture for your baby as they are horrible staff and don't know the basics of treating customers + how to make sure they can provide a service for the toddlers/babies. I will never visit this shop again!

On Saturday, I came into this location and was immediately helped by a gentleman that took my USB and went and developed my photos. Within a very short time I was walking out of the store with my photos in hand. Upon getting home I realized that photos were very orange, so I called the store to inquire what I could do in my editing program to change this, again another gentleman there walked me through what I needed to do to change the exposure and tones to help take the orange away in the photos. Today, I was back and forth to the store several times trying my settings and getting sample photos printed so I could see if I was getting close to the coloring I needed. At one point a lovely lady took me to the back and showed me on the editing program what I would need to do to bring the photos up to the color I was looking to achieve. I am fairly new to editing and the staff were so patient and helpful with my questions and advice they gave to help me as well as to get my photos pushed through as quickly as they could so I could be on my way. I am just so thankful for the sound advice they gave me as I learn so much and it is showing in my work. A great camera store. But it has to be said that a couple times over the 20 years I've been going to McBain (not just this store) that they've wanted to sell a demo unit (body or lens), or a unit that was rented by an employee for a weekend, for the same price as a new, in the box unit. Maybe I'm off base, but in my opinion, a demo or a rental unit (even taken out by an employee for a weekend) should not be sold for the asking price of a brand new, still in the box unit. Otherwise, its a great company.

Entered the store feeling a little intimidated knowing I hardly knew what half the stuff in the store was but was pleseantly surprised with 0 judgement and lots of support and imformation from the employees. I went in searching for a wide angle lens and the man there showed me the one I orginally was looking for and also brought out the same one of a different brand that was a more cost effective alternative (without compromising on quality) Was very impressed with his knowledge and help. Wasnt pressured to buy more expensive and he never tried to up sale me. Will be returning here for all my camera needs.

Absolutely terrible customer service experience. I placed an order online and it was butchered. I ordered multiple photos, and all the prints were of the same photo. A manager called and promised to fix it and call me when it was done. That never happened. I later called back and asked to have the manager call me. That also never happened.

I went to get a passport taken for my baby and toddler for their Canadian passport but the staff weren't friendly or courteous. I felt like a pest. Staff were literally staring me down. No way helpful. My question was met with a curt reply. It's been 6 hours since leaving the store and I still feel bad. I left the store wondering if we were treated that way because we're a black family. And no, I'm not the kind to attribute things to racial profiling but for real, my experience here made me feel this way.

I sent my camera away to be repaired purely out of convenience (rather than try and contact Sony myself/send it away) and I was left with was a huge two month inconvenience. Not once did I receive a call from McBain to update me on the status of my cameras repair or to supply me with a quote from Sony about the repair. After many, many phone calls (and just shy of two months from being sent away) asking if my camera was done being repaired, I was told it was on it's way back! I was told that I would receive a call once it had arrived. After a week, I called to see if my camera had arrived and was told it was in Edmonton, but had been delivered to the wrong store, but not to worry, Nick, the repair manager, would ensure that it was in his story either that evening or the next day and he would call me either way the following day. I did not receive a call from Nick the following day so when I called, I spoke with the manager who said Nick wasn't due to work that day. I was then told that my camera was lost somewhere in Edmonton. The full story was that some random employee who had been walking through the receiving department "received" my camera and obviously didn't follow proper procedure, and it was now misplaced. The manager was nice enough to give me the stores floor model since I had an important event that I wanted to take pictures at. After another week and a half of waiting my camera was finally found, brought to Southgate and I picked it up.

Went here to get my official photo's taken a few weeks ago. The photo's got rejected as not meeting the specifications (which I had with me on paper). Informed them that this got rejected, but not willing to redo the photo's without a rejection letter. As this is a time sensitive matter, I can't wait for the rejection letter. Unfortunate that they don't meet the specs (stuff happens) but really not happy with them not wanting to help me out to get if fixed.

I've shopped here extensively for the last several years. I've gotten passport photos done on two occasions and was in and out in a flash. The staff are always happy to let me play around with the latest cameras and answer any questions I have, and I never feel pressured to buy. Needless to say though, when I do end up purchasing I always choose McBain. They'll register everything for you right at the till and they have one of the best return policies in the business.

I've been going to Southgate McBain (and McBain in general) since I started with photography back in 2005. It is by far and away my favorite place to purchase gear and get prints done quickly. The staff has always been super friendly and educated, even though I have been primarily a Pentax shooter and been given negative vibes by pretty much every other camera store in the city aside from Southgate, West Ed, and most of the main store staff. Some stores wouldn't' even help me when I ask for help with Pentax, so for a store to give me the time of day when I ask about a lesser known product is very helpful. If they don't have what I'm looking for, they can often transfer it in for me within 24 hours and the service has always been exemplary. Even though a few staffing changes the service has never wavered for me and I've always been able to trust that I'll get awesome service from this location.

I would not recommend going to this location if you can avoid it. I phoned in the very next morning after placing an order after I realized the dimensions were off. I brought in the proper dimensions and they told me they could do the new ones. A week and a half later when my print came in it had the wrong dimensions and I could either wait another week or I could cut it down to size myself. Not exactly the professionalism I'd like from a company that has my business.

I give her 5 stars. Appearance of the store and Jileane was great, clean and well kept. She had a great smile. She took the time to explain some camera starter packages for me. She explained very well the differences between DSLR vs Mirrorless, features, bluetooth and apps capability. Did not try to upsell me to cameras I did not need. She did show me 2 different great options and was very informative. She explained warranties very well. BTW I have the rebel tsi and not my friend. I will be coming back this summer and buying the nikon d3400 as you got me very sold on the unit. Again great job today. A true definition of customer service and product knowledge. They don't process on site, but they gave me a timeline for processing and called me well within the timeline to let me know my photos were ready. They put they on CD for me which is great so I could share them with my friend who lives in a different city

I’m not one to write bad reviews and I almost never write one regardless of how bad my experience was. I was there with my sister to get pictures developed and the staff working at the time was NOT friendly at all and not accommodating. I went to McBain specifically because I heard nothing but good things, but unfortunately, this was what we experienced. It’s been nearly 2 weeks and we still havent recieved a call on when we’ll be receiving our film. If we had known/informed that it was going to take this long, we would’ve went to other retailers. All we got was “don’t come back until we call you”. And no, I’m not going to go fill up a survey about it for improvement. I’ve worked retail for a very long time, so I know that is not effective at all. Directly talk to your staff about how they should be treating every single customer.

I have spent at least 15,000 dollars at Mcbain camera over the years and quite frankly the upcoming purchases have come to an end. I decided to put my name down for the upcoming release of the new Sony Alpha 1 camera which usually is not a problem with Mcbain based on priority and deposits. Due to unfortunate 2021 circumstances I was not able to put down a deposit for the Alpha 1 camera and a young man phoned me the following day to give me grief on why i did not come down to the southgate location to deposit money. I explained the situation on why i wasn't able to make the deposit and he rudly said "bye" and hung up the phone.

Those 2 idiots behind the counter wasted 2 hours of my time on Sunday the 26th, they agreed on the phone to price match an item available on amazon as long as it was from amazon.ca. I went out in -28c weather all the way from west end to be told they would not honor the price match... Yet they had the item out on the counter with my name and phone number on a sticky note attached to the box. When on the phone I told them I would be there with in 3 hours from the time I called, there was plenty of time to call me back and say sorry they would not price match the item. What a customer service lol Hey guess what I will never be buying anything again from McBain ever again, you do not want a local business, ok - there is plenty of on-line stores with x10 the customer service those 2 had to offer. What a time McBain lol
