great university! they offer so many programs! it has a mini mall which is great! and has tons of food options unlike other universities also they have events going on around campus everyday!

A Love

Absolutely terrible staffing, terrible communication, terrible service, you can never find anyone over the telephone. No one body to talk to when an issue happens, especially when you are overseas. Not professional enough like other universities.

Din Waismark

Good teachers, nice university, but in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately there's a good range of food options, restaurants and shops, and it's a terminal station for many bus routes.

D Kourt

I went as an older student and I really enjoyed my time here. Kept an open mind and listened to what the professors had to say. I learned a lot.

Nice Web Services

I am in York University, and I like it. Why? ... My professors are really competent and caring. Administrative staff is very helpful. Libraries are great. Mosque is nice. Computer Labs are very well equipped.

Sami Aldajani (Sam)

You can do better York. Great university but you lose your credit when you go on strike every year.

D W Thompson

I visited this weekend for a track meet. The experience was pleasant. No problem with parking. Only $5 per day for weekends. There were more than enough parking near to the track.

jonana j

Worse place that goes on strike all the time. They hate the students also

Minori Jun

If you are just visiting the campus, it is very beautiful in the spring time and worth appreciating. As a student, I've heard it's not as good education or faculty wise.

Divya Kansal

Best university campus is awesome faculty so helpful google maps fully accurate for every place in the university.

赛义夫SaM

It's a good studying place .. I have some concerns about admissions office attitude and willingness to help..

Bradley Man

Not too bad to study in if you can find a table but you can tell the space isn't be used effectively there's massive amounts of open space. The studying area can be easily tripled. The Internet speed in the building is slower then my iPhone tethering I believe it's lower then a 1mbs which is pretty bad considering almost all other university in Ontario don't have the same problem as yorks Internet

Emre

I had 2 strikes in my 4 years of studying here. That's 18~ weeks of classes I paid for and received nothing. The current strike is on its 9th week. This money hungry university does not care one bit about how their decisions affect the students and T.A's. Do yourself a favor and study somewhere else

Neil Patel

Huge campus. Go buses, yrt, transportation is great. Wish they had more food choices and better ones

Brandon Walsh

outstanding teachers and study programs, this university provides great value for students

Thomas Romanowski

Finished my first semester at York....Yea the location is a little out there....but the 196 to Downsview is only 15 min and you're back in Toronto. Overall the campus layout is really nice and there is a lot of signs pointing to where you need to go. The lecture halls can be massive with 500+ people but they have two projectors usually and mics so you can hear everything. The classes are relaxed and you are not treated like a number despite being in a 55,000 student campus. Screw what people say about York and how it's worse than U of T....It's obviously an accredited University and has produced some legendary students.

Harmeet Singh

I personally believe York is a great University. Although many may disagree. The fact that it made me collaborate, integrate and think critically played an important aspect in allowing me to be a better individual. I highly recommend this University as it does teach you things you don't necessary know and helps you identify your strengths and weakness. Although sometimes, the professor may not be up to the standard, that's life technically where you have some good days or bad days. You just need to know how to balance and deal with it. To sum up, its a good university if you are willing to learn and put the effort.

Vikul Malhotra

Great campus and some professors are amazing as welll!

Quan

The school is great. Not too hard. Not too easy. Just hope that those strikes won't happen again. Overall a great school.

Ilpo Lehto

Well, after being affiliated since 1973, convocating in 1977, working there since 1985, I'm going to say I would be biased. The subway construction is coming to an end. Building construction has slowed down as much of the central area is now built up. The old wind tunnels can mostly be avoided. The buildings erected and being erected now are to alleviate crowding in academic areas of learning.

Ray

i'd really appreciate if the temperature was consistent through out campus. Why is one room boiling hot while the next is freezing....

Francisco Marti

Dear Sirs, My name is Francisco Marti (Spanish Canadian) and I have an Honours BA in Economics from Waterloo University,Ontario. ,I am retired I would like to do online the courses that in my time I could not do. I am willing to take a pre-course to refresh my memory. I am interested in Chemistry or Physics ( I was reading the Walter Lewin book about physics and I got in love like the title of the book. He was an MIT Professor). The problem is at my age (66 years old) could I get any finantial aid? or if I can get a job that help me to leave in Toronto an study at the same time? Thankyou very much for your hepl and pacience. Yours sincerely, F.Martí,BA

Charuvind Jaswal

Amazing campus hope in person classes start soon once the lockdown is lifted.

Veronica Hendrick-Lockyer

It has been the ultimate dream come true for me to attend York University. It's diversity simply creates a learning experience like no other. Networking here is like having the world at your fingertips! Vxo

Møj M

Horrible administration; when I tried to change my program, they mixed up my application. After calling them numerous times and being bounced to different departments many times during a course of 3.5 months, I gave up on the follow up calls. Never heard a thing from them again, no letter no calls.

Ahmed Hassan

Haven’t even started courses, already transferring to another school. It is impossible to psychically and remotely navigate York, those meant to help unfortunately don’t do so.

Lou G

Great school. Very helpful staff. Don't be afraid to ask for help in any inquiries you may have.

Taylor Courtney

Beautiful school. And campus. Unfortunately the lack of care for there students and the reason the school is what it's main downfall is.

Brian S

Being back here, seeing so many changes while so many things stay the same. Nothing but good memories for me happy to say.

Damany Luke

Too busy.

Zach Ann

Astronomy Professors here are awesome!

Diana Cano-vega

They dont care for their students

Chantaé Candize

Fantastic course selections, well equipped classrooms, highly trained professors and fantastic on campus actives.

Laily Ajellu

There are a lot of gease on campus and in the spring their babies are really cute to see but be careful, because they will gang up on you and steal your food if you're within 10meters. The campus facilities are okay, although many bathrooms need upgrading. The art on the walls is generally very well done

zaid A

This university should be taken over by the government of Canada. Charging students arm and leg to get education.

Ncxse Saxre

OK,The school environment is good, the teaching building is very big

Ikramullah Khan

One of the best and top most University in Canada.

Aakash Shah

This is the best place to study in common and it is real big structure

Malik Nadeem

I attended York from September '92 until April '96 and I had the best time of my life during those years. All of my profs were outstanding !!! I was not fresh out of high school when I entered university; I was 27. This put relations with my professors on more of an adult, colleague-to-colleague level rather than the straight teacher-to-student dynamic. I look back on those days with great affection. Shout out to Professor Steve Otto, my mentor and my friend. I dubbed him "Clarence" after the angel from "It's A Wonderful Life"... because, as I told him, he was my Clarence. I'll never forget Steve nor the long, metaphysical conversations we would share waxing eloquent, over the dynamics of the universe.

Adeel Saquib

Wasted money on ordering transcripts. It never reached the institution I requested to be sent to. There is no tracking number. There is no phone number to follow up. Its all automated recording.

Calwin

A great place to learn and meet new friends as students. Campus is very large and filled with amenities - also fun to explore.

Alex

Good university. Honestly underated. And there schuilch business program is top notch. Doesnt really get any better than that. Just finished my first year hear at york and i can say it is a good university. Very diverce compared to other universities and many eating locations... If your planning on coming to york and are not too sure, do it! In my opinion u will love it.

Lisa M

Supportive, high level of education.

Dimon Dhand

It is the largest Canadian University, with area equal to a small town. University has two Ontario locations, with Keele and Steele's being the largest and the oldest of two

Feng Gula

The institution is a joke, particularly its administration. I cannot speak on behalf of other universities but peers of mine have been enjoying their experience. I cannot say the same for York U. Horrid policies regarding the pandemic. Do not expect to be safe while on campus since it is bordering Jane and Finch.

Tim Charran

Excellent University. Great profs and most importantly, outstanding Residence buildings for student housing, dedicated Maintenance and HK staff. Students home away from home. Lots of Shopping, Restaurants, Stadium, Observatory, Gym with Pool too much to list. A York U Graduate gets hired first.

Daphene Solis

Best university!

Zaid Asfour

Nice university to walk around!

Amy & Al Team

Great University with excellent Professors. Good environment for studying.

Vanessa Pereira

Great selection of courses and friendly professors. It's unfortunate that the people that run the school don't seem to care much about the students. Decent selection of food. Limited number of parking spaces. Be wary of how often the school goes on strike; seems to never end. The strike has forced me to drop several courses and lost job opportunities due to unknowing when school will continue. Massive downfall to the school's reputation. If it weren't for that the school would be a lot better. Go to this school if you want to graduate in 5 years or more.

Vanic ULUKUK (Timmoco)

I went to there to see my friends, this a good university, and i am going to apply this university.

Adam M

York is an amazing school. The buildings are modern and very clean, there is lots of parking and it is a happening place. A lot of the programs are top notch and there are lots of flexible education options.

Tara Wheeler

Visited the rink for a hockey tourney! It was so nice to see the kids back on the ice.

Sean Saxon

Don’t try to get information from them, it’s like pulling teeth. They do not answer the phone, they do not answer emails, and if you show up they say to call or email for an appointment.

Akash C

Awesome university. Did my undergrad in astronomy and their program is top notch. The program is small so getting help from profs is easy and they're always welcoming. There are a lot of opportunities at York however one usually needs to work to find them. Campus is slightly isolated but this changed recently with the introduction of the subway which makes access to downtown and neighboring areas much better.

Marwan Alani

Big campus with lots of things to do & places to go. Few things to note : * if you live on campus, there aren't many close by places for groceries & so. Be prepared to either pay for overpriced items or do a lengthy trip to shop every few days. * if you drive, parking can prove challenging as there isn't any free parking on campus (or relatively close) * the area is not very safe, so preferably don't travel alone on foot at night. If you're a student, it's a good idea to use the free safety services that the university offers.

Christian

Great University situated in a working class/industrial area of Toronto.

O_ T

I had a good experience at York: professors were amazing, campus is gorgeous, lots of parking spaces.

Ian Simpson

Huge campus, better bring your running shoes if visiting.

SHR

It is Canada's third-largest university. York University was established in 1959 as a non-denominational institution by the York University Act. York University Film Department houses Canada's oldest film school [9] and has been ranked one of the best in Canada.

Khrystyna Skira

Many food options, great staff. Lots of maps posted all around campus, however the amount of crime in that area is a bit disturbing.

Tapas Easwar

The general consensus with York University is a resounding, "meh." Nothing about it is special or stands out. Unless there is a program that only York offers, go somewhere else or you risk getting York'd (repeatedly)

Joshua Legros

Horrible campus. Spent 40,000$ plus over 3 years. I was 6 credits from getting a bachelors and had to stop due to financial constraints. Tried to email my department to get my credits transferred to a certificate and never got a response. Extremely disappointed in there attention to students who invested so much time and money. Do not recommend to anyone. Go to a school that has the staff to justify the tuition costs

Muhammad Ali

I've been with York University for quite a while and my experience so far has been positive. This University is massive, quite gorgeous, has lots of facilities and places to eat. Transportation to and from York is not easy however. Parking space is quite limited, and expensive.

Viet Huynh

I'm reviewing my university because... Why not? There have been a few rough patches that took place here during my years from 2013/14-2017 (hello TA strike!) But overall I really enjoyed my experience. Although I did not participate enough to become familiar with the university's bureaucracy, the professors, TA's, and students were enough to make this one of the most memorable experiences that I will look back on with fondness. I can't say that there were not moments where I wished to god that school would just end but I can definitely say that ot was all worth it. Thank you, York, for those years. Your facilities may be run down in a lot of places, your parking may be expensive, campus business might be even more expensive... But I don't regret one moment.

Jake Conter

Spend 8000$ dollars a year for buildings that haven't been updated since 1980, professors who lack understanding of online technology, and a system that will charge you every time you need to request a transcript of grades you earned paying 8k a year

Nikos S. Kiriakis

The campus is easily accessible, lots of parking. Not the safest school in Canada but good for a diploma program.

Lana Jadenson

I got too excited to visit the campus. The campus has good choices for food places. I’m an international student here in Toronto and so far I’m enjoying the view. I’ll be coming here this coming and September and it seems like the school is very clean and organized . I cannot wait to see more of it inside the campus.

Matt Au-Yeung

Beautiful university!! Lots of buildings and campus, with lots of facilities. Many choice of restaurants. Nice place for students!!

Daniel Martens

I have only been here for a term, but I already love the place. The campus is beautiful, the professors and TA's are helpful, and everybody is nice. I've heard the residences aren't the most beautiful, but they get the job done! All in all, lovely school, great programs, and would recommend!

Arslan Khalid

Massive university with many buildings inspired by brutalist architecture. Lots of eating options and the newly minted subway station provides easy access to Toronto and other areas. Walking at night can be quite dicey and robberies do occur.

Thank Dogs

Very racist university, be careful about sending your children here for hate indoctrination, unless hate is what you hope for from your offspring.

Danny C.

Getting to this campus is a nightmare with the construction going on, ttc rerouting causes increased travel times. Parking is not laid out properly so the main problem is with travel and finding locations on campus. I suggest finding a parking lot on line before travelling to the campus.

Diana Spektor

A good university with highly varied classes and a beautiful, easily accessible campus. However, I never felt safe walking around after dark - there should really be more security and lighting around the place.

Trone Clooper

York is pretty great so far! The majority of professors are great, with a few acceptions of course. The only thing I dislike about it so far is that we have received 2 bulletin notices within the past week for sexual assault on or near campus...So that is definitely a bit unsettling to say the least. Also the food choices around campus are not really the healthiest, would like to see a subway (restaurant) open up there really soon, as every Tim Hortons on campus is always PACKED. It's either you wait 45 min in line for somewhat healthy food, or settle for a quick, fat packed, Wendy's burger lol.

Ibrahim Durrani

I haven’t gone to York but I know someone who does. It’s a good university but they often go on strikes. Other than that it has good teams and good places to eat as well.

Zeeshan Khan

University is so garbage. Professors are so unprofessional and seem uninterested in their own teachings. Always crowded and nobody sparks conversations.

Mazhar Alam

Absolutely Horrible administrative staff!! My daughter wanting to switch programs and has been working for over 10 days and can not get an answer if she can transfer to her new program. Last day to enroll is in two days. Can't believe this is happening...

Klaus Rong

We will see

Claudia J. Mbiamany

Nice campus

Nabeel Siddiqui

Here's my two cents, university is a university its cool, but if you get tied up with with York's administration and have to deal with that garbage, good luck. They delay everything, lose your documents, give out wrong information (do not train their staff well) and when things go south it's just you whose stuck in a bad situation because they will lift their hands and do NOTHING about it. I'd say at York you don't pray for grades you pray you never have to visit your department or especially Bennett center (administration office) for something to get solved. Because chances are you'll get stuck very badly and it's gonna be a snowball effect which will carry over for a long time. JUST WORK HARD AND PASS EVERY COURSE. PRAY YOU DONT VISIT BENNETT center during school year for problem solving. Oh and good luck with upcoming 50000000 strikes in your time at York. THIS IS YOUR TIME!

Okunlola Olaoluwa

Not enough resources to cater for the number of students they have. Pure money grabbing scheme . Don’t even get me started on the nursing program.

Amir Hamza

A beautiful university with full of natural beauty. Really a big and huge campus.

Mega QA

My highschool teacher, Mr. Roblin, always told us, if you can eat with a fork, you can go to York. Bless his heart.

Paisley Yoga

I wish there were less than one stars as they don't deserve any star! The most unorganized system, the poorest communications, the most irresponsible staff, the least qualified instructors you find at York. I tried this school twice and every time was a great disappointment and waste of money and time for me. My suggestion and experience with York: put this school out of your list. Travel 250 kilometers to your school back and forth but don't make the mistake I did.

Jie Dang

Beautiful campus and great Professors. The only drawback is security issue around the campus.

Kayla Watkins

I am still in high school but so far this school seems like the best school for me except for the fact that I live in a small town in Texas so I'm gonna be very far away from home and that will be hard but I think I can do this!!!!!

Yuganthan Sivashankar

Very live in here, amazing profs, like a little village in it self, lots of stores

Kirat Sandhu

My college is located in the university campus. And so far I have been the university facilities like york lanes which I loved. And this is nice university.

Frans Klaassen

Worst university ever. Teachers striking is part of the curriculum, non-communication and frustrating students. Very impersonal campus, mostly commuting students. Absolutely no campus feeling out there. Please take our advice, and do not go to York.

Ravi Kumar

Service is quick like rabbit and atmosphere of setting area is very pleasant.

Alan Tang

Great university :) campus has everything you need, selection of different restaurants, shops and many parking lots to choose from.

Berlin D'Souza

For students thinking of attending York based on the reviews you read online, thats probably one of the worst ways of evaluating an institution. Before anything, you need to understand that everyone's experience is subjective. Every school has its upsides and it's downsides. I attend York now and personally I've found my academic experience at York fulfilling. I have many friends who attend U of T and quite honestly they have all had terrible experiences when it comes to grappling with the academic expectations at U of T. The profs there are restricted by a quota in regards to how many A, B and C grades they're supposed to give to their students. Ive always preferred learning to an extensive caliber and enjoying the information I'm absorbing rather than work my ass off and still get struck down by profs who are restricted by a quota. Its extremely counterproductive. I've developed relationships with the professors here and quite honestly, the quality of education is not compromised. At times I've struggled to pull my weight but many a time it's feels better when you succeed at doing so and are recognized for your efforts with a suitable grade. The administration at York has always been a problem. I've had my fair share of problems with the administration there but don't get me wrong, York is a good school. The quality of education is great and like all schools it has its pitfalls but don't decide based on reviews because everyone will filter through the educational system differently. You who read this is one of them.

1 S

I go here and I'm entering my last year. School is huge and that's something I dislike. Regardless to the size of the school and the amount of students, the library is always full and doesn't have enough seating for everyone. A professor got upset once because the class did well and told the TA'S to mark harder because they have to fail some students to make the school look a little tough. Well its working. I cannot wait to graduate. It'll be a great day. And I will never come back again!

Julian Tamburro

Parking area is a pain to get into, they always charge to park as well. Decent facility and grounds.

Ahmad T

The school has it's problems but its not as bad as some people think. There are pros and cons but I'll start with the pros. I came to York University in 2015 pursuing a degree in business and I found that the university is a city unto …

Brad Bennett

Great place to roam around! Very friendly people.

abdirisak cmc

It is big and beautiful..... I LoooooooVeeeeee it....

Mahbub Baset

Visited this university with a Schulich Alumni. Loved the nice campus, York lane and overall ambience. Visited Schulic School of business and Pond Road residence.

Ron Bell

Our son has now been through 2 strikes while attending York. Not at all impressed, as it has had a detrimental impact on his learning, his employment and his emotional well being.

Ryan H

If you enjoy having your education halted and ruined because of constant strikes then by all means go here. Seriously though this university is very outdated in the classrooms and lecture halls. The halls are also very crowded and you can’t get from A to B in quick fashion because of this. There are also some very weird people who just walk around campus like lunatics and security turns a blind eye.

jeremy yaksich

Anyone who suggests that York has a 'great campus' needs to see other campuses. I've heard that some programs are good but the business program is terrible. So much cheating, apathetic professors, and $18 a day for parking.

Isa Yang

It's an alright campus. I don't attend this University, but I have visited with friends who do. Parking is limited, along with food options. Campus looks great visually however.

Danielle

Would not recommend this university to anyone. I did a post grad here for a year and it was the worst experience. The professors here are okay - however don't really take their jobs here seriously. The students here are a joke -getting off the bus would be like going to a club. Everyone is decked out in makeup, pants down etc. they are not here to learn. No wonder they say, if you can hold a fork, you can go to York...

SATTAR KEHY

All I wanted was a normal university experience, but no...I just had to apply to the one with countless annoying gimmicks that frustrate students to no end. I've just decided not to return to this fascist institution for graduate studies because I'm done with being treated this way.

Kevin Liang

York University is a terrible place. Students can't even finish their semester this year because of the strike. And they have strikes every 2 to 3 years. For the sake of your education, avoid this place like the plague.

DEVANARAYANA RAO M

One of the best universities in Canada. Great opportunities for students.Best facilities and environment. Libraries have lots of resources. Growing up in all the fields. For undergrad studies, it may seem little stressful but it's enough to mold you out for the relevant areas. Thanks to administration being not qualitatively upgraded as other sectors. Graduate school is fully supported by the university but university gives more attention to socioeconomic research. Since its located at the edge of Greater Toronto Area the off campus facilities are not enough.

MD Sadi

Really beautiful university. Loved it

Clayton Rhodes

Highly recommend York U. Fantastic programs. Amazing professors. Awesome student support services.

Alex Le

As a Chinese student, I would say it is the best university in Canada. People are like family here. A lot of free stuff and tuition fee is very reasonable. Plus, you can meet all kinds of buddy.

kekeli AGBLE

Very nice place to study, relaxe and connect with people.

Ramona Mendoza

not bad

JIMMY PATEL

Top class campus with beautiful and tall buildings and open space kind of atmosphere.

Marty Lafortin

My Alma Mater. Commuter school with 40,000+ undergraduates, one of the largest in Canada

Zeest Saqib, Esq.

I went on tour here multiple types. I liked the faculty, the vegan food, the dorms, and the shabby cozy look. If I stayed in Canada, I would definitely have gone here.

Master The Three Head Blade Frosty The Bakugan

Thank you. I will try my best to take the bus to the collage on my own. well I'm learning how.

xoenea

Lots of people, overcrowded library during rush hour, large lecture sizes for intro classes. Professors are generally nice, the admins that I've talked to were helpful. More places to sit would be nice.

Andrea L

So I like pretty much everything about this university, it is the place for me. EXCEPT, the strikes!!! There’s a strike every 3-4 years!!! The current one is about to become the longest university strike in Canadian history!! And the current holder of that title is from York’s 2008-2009 strike!! The university has sat down to bargain a handful of times in the last 3 months and it is ridiculous. Administration should grow up and find a real way to handle this. It’s like they don’t even care that they have majorly disrupted thousands of students lives by not even trying to fix the problem. Like I said, love the school EXCEPT the strikes are bullsh*t. Also Glendon Residence’s suck, you fit have access to any kitchen facilities and have to live off of what you can eat from a croc pot or a microwave because of their strict appliance rules and so most of your food ends up actually coming from one tiny cafeteria that only has like 5 stations half of which aren’t even healthy and the salad bar is gross, no one can healthily live off of that for a year. Keele Residence’s aren’t so terrible though, Pond is wonderful actually.

Cityth The Dragon

Quite expensive parking, and it's rather easy to get lost, but a beautiful campus with access to great facilities.

Jim

School and the faculty is garbage. Staff don't know how to maintain a reliable website, doesn't care about students, cares only about money (even though they can't pay their own bills) (Maybe that's why they only care about money), and it's just an awful school. Oh and they strike a lot.

Kenneth Veridiano

Their libraries are great for studying.

Andrew

Has developed nicely since I was a student 15 years ago. Have modernized areas and built some nice building since

David Lee

Bad campus for computer science degrees. I highly recommend either Waterloo or western university

Mia Reed-Parker

My oldest daughter goes here and she says she does not enjoy it...... the student center is just a food court?

Diana Dragoman

This school does not care at all about its students, it will register them in the wrong programs and won't even care. They are only concerned with making as much money as possible. I have had the worst experience ever possible with this university. Ended up stuck with them for an extra semester because I was misinformed on the courses needed to be taken. Also, I submitted my form to graduate in a timely manner, but was told that there was an online form to fill out; so pretty much my fax was disregarded and I missed the deadline according to them, which delayed my graduation. I would never send my child to York or go there myself for that matter.

Gwen Qu

I rather put my time and effort elsewhere, but I was already in my 4th year so might as well finish it. For my graduate studies, I do not have any intention of going back to York unless it is Schulich. Exorbitant parking, food, and book (especially course kits) costs. My program was pretty laid back (Humanities). In non-foundation courses, you can build relationships with professors (not TAs or contractors) and most of them are nice and flexible when it comes to your special needs and concerns. I generally find the school pretty safe, never really had any problems except one time in the library when some not-so-nice-lady stole my booked study room and caused a commotion. I tend to find the school's library resources not as elaborate as UofT or other ivey-league schools such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, or Princeton. When I was working on my dissertation, I had to find sources outside of school and used RACER (which is extremely unreliable). I had a professor who was not interested in building relationships with his students. Despite him being an excellent professor, he is not open and awkward to talk with. I had another professor who was too personal and said inappropriate stuff from left, right, and centre (which was hilarious). He mentioned stories about his wife, daughter, and sex. Another memorable professor was a nice lady who remembered my name for three years even though I only had her for one course. I didn't even say hello to her but she said my name in one of my classes when she appeared as a guest lecturer. Anyway, York has its good and bad moments, you just need to take it with a grain of salt and see how you like it. What I didn't like is how the classes were too far apart and professors would not let you out until 2:30pm at the dot when you have another class that starts at 2:30pm that's located at the other end of the school. I would always then be late for my second class of the day (it was problematic when I had an in-class examination). If I were you, I would try to avoid going through any administrative process as they are highly red-taped and bureaucratic. So make sure to organize your courses and degree appropriately in the first place so there will not be a conflict. It will make your life easier. If you are interested in doing research, York University has one of the best research programs out there. They publish more research/articles than other schools (even UofT), while UofT has a much more elaborate selection of PhD programs. I've been at York for five years, before that I was at Humber College in Bachelors of Applied Arts. In between my time at York, I also went to Universite de Montreal for French studies. School is flexible if you make it flexible. Good luck to everyone.

Tibs Garcia

I don't understand how a university with so much space can't build a parking lot for its students. Such a simple improvement would probably increase enrollment by big numbers. it's not a downtown campus. GIVE THE STUDENTS FREE PARKING …

Got my accounting degree with Atkinson and did very well after graduation. The faculty was great, the accounting courses were rigorous and prepared me well for the ca exam. I see that the program has an internship option now which is great for undergraduates. The professors from accounting were very good and i still keep in touch with one of them that's still teaching at York!

Enaiyat Ghani Ovy

My review is just as a visitor to the campus. I stayed inside the campus and I liked the university. The fact that attracted to me was the greenery of the campus. It is a very nice campus. You can just relax and enjoy the environment. I would definitely recommend this place.

Redant

You can count on strikes every couple of years or so which is quite disruptive. Also, the area surrounding the school isn't very safe and crimes happen on a frequent basis. The facilities are quite modern

M S

Great campus, amazing finance, tax and other 3rd and 4th year ADMS profs. Don't believe the bs you hear. As a recent graduate I can say York has plenty of places to study (you just have to spend some time at the school to know). The lectures have a lot of student only for 1st and 2nd year, then the classes shrink down.

Shams Alkari

I feel privileged to have attended at York. The nice thing about it was the huge campus, I highly recommend visiting. A state of the art metro station is currently under construction. Which could mean overpopulated classes and a less personal atmosphere.

Soham

Pretty much good! This univ has a lot to do with the studies! A lot of courses! Costly though!

Syd M

Went to Osmow's! Great food.

Kuldeep Singh

Giving 1 Star because it doesn't allow ZERO rating. I had paid all my fees in advance. My visa got rejected, I am struggling to get my refund back.. 100s of emails but very poor response. No direct numbers to talk to accounts. On emails they don't respond timely. The Finance machinery is poor, If your visa gets rejected and fees is paid, Please wait for at least 1 year to get your hard earned money back. I have all the emails downloaded, prepared in a file. They just focus on making money and hardly any welfare to the students.

Kun

Good campus but a little dangerous at night sometimes.

Katherine Martins

i used to love york before coming here, but over the past 3 months, you just start hating the place when you finally realise that they don't care about us, just our money. quite a large number of us are international and without taking that into consideration they go on this long ass strike ruining peoples summer plans, internship plans and graduation plans. living in toronto on its own is expensive so staying here longer than budgeted for is a hassle, they choose to ignore this issues and pretend like this strike isn't affecting us. the worst part is that we aren't even getting refunds. i ain't siding with york or cupe but just bargain and end this strike. i've met amazing people at york and had interesting experiences with peers but i sincerely say if you have a better option, please don't come here.

Kelvin Luk

It takes a month or even a longer time to get your transfer credits reassessed and they put you in some useless social science/general elective courses. If you want to waste your time and money it's a perfect university for you.

Oryan February

It's a maze. Many find their way in but only few leave. ????

edwin warren

i attended my nephew's graduation yesterday it was nice to see how the university accommodates people's needs. Good job York U!

Aizaz Ahmed

Pethatic university with below average profs and ignorant student advisors. Go to #Ryerson university instead.

Sebastian Campos

Spent 7 years of my life there. Campus has really changed but still very pretty. Constant construction since ~2008 has made getting to/around campus challenging. Many new buildings, however. Very limited options for parking and eating. Prepare to be gouged! =\

Matt Wong

pretty bad place to be, not safe place. admin is terrible, and education you gain is mediocre (subject to the individual) the location of has a high effect on security. the public housing at student prices right at the boarder of Jane and finch was a mistake. Getting weekly bulletins warning about sexual assault is unnerving to say the least. The administration @yorku is notorious for their inhospitable treatment, they might get paid well but it does not seem like they are motivated to really help students. Prepare to be brushed off repeatedly and sent to different departments, this is the only incidence i have experience government office level service. The education i gain was mediocre at best, i came in expecting focused learning and detailed coarse pertaining to my major. That was not the case, you are required to take extra coarses outside of your major, your coarses are designed to prepare you for an exam which is mainly used to eliminate students and bell curve marks. If you were ever curious about what its like to be treated like a number come to YorkU where all majors come with a minor in street smarts.

Silvi E

Amazing lots of activities to part take in other than just classes

Sasha Sh

If you guys looking for a hang out place, It's great. If you looking for interesting lectures they have them too. Had a lot of amazing professors. Now, If you are look into actually get an education and graduate within even 4 years, GOOD LUCK! I had my department loose my final essay and a mark for it too. Surprise, I failed the class. It took me a while to actually get them to investigated and do something about it. Administration sucks balls in here, same as financial advisors. They even lowered their acceptance average just to get people to go to York. Oh, and how can I forget their entitled TAs who will strike every 2-3 year for few months. If you have a choice between York and any other University, go to that other University. Do not waste your time and money.

Mugdha Pachnanda

Huge and nice campus. I haven't studied here but the transit access is a plus point.

shezote talukder

It feels good when You can see the beautiful fall color through the window infront of your desk!

Sukhjit Rai

This Univeristy is terrible, they jam pack as many students as possible in one lecture hall per one professor, this way they allow more admissions and pay less staff. The University is also to big for the staff to give correct information; ex. Go to an advising appoint about a certain course they'll send you somewhere else, that person will send you somewhere else, this repeats until you end up where you started. York University, where people are a walking talking cheque, not a student.

Dean Dickson

Although this school has the potential to be amazing (diversity, community, a beautiful peaceful campus in the summer) it truly has just become a big business without the students and education the top priority.

misz raiduatchu

I personally think that this was the best university I have attended (and I have attended a few around the world) many will disagree, but this unique helped me become who I am today

Mira Suzie

Between the pathetically slow administration over at the Bennett Centre through to noisey libraries, I wonder why I ever transferred to this Canadian institution!!! Oh, let's not forget the strikes that happen virtually every other year!!!!! Just watch your hard earned money which paid your tuition go down the drain. Power outages are the norm and sexual violence at Keele campus is amongst the national worse for a tertiary campus. Every drug is available in the village so living in York U apartments means you have to be very careful walking home at night. It is a shame as York has beautiful grounds. However, sexual assault, strikes, and noisey libraries is NOT worth it!!!Don't waste your money or time. You can get a better experience elsewhere.

Karam Kallas

Professors prepare courses very well. Lots of facilities and events to participate in. Potential of having a faculty of medicine and hospital in the near future.

rcd

I had a good experience at York as a 1st year college transfer. They offer many resources in order for you to succeed. The location isn't great tho.

Ivo Medina

I think some of the areas need to be more clean.

Anthony Ho

Very nice campus, though I haven't been to half of York haha

James Zhan

Putting all the false stigma media has given York U away, this university is great in terms of academics. It does not have the fame it deserves because of the neighborhood and because University of Toronto, the "elephant in the room", is located in the same city with York U. Most people focus on how high the ranking of University of Toronto is and how York U is ranked lower than University of Toronto, but in reality, York U is a place where liberal arts thrive and lots of students prefer York U than University of Toronto.

Payam Masjedi

Very friendly atmosphere, competitive studying, a whole lot of options for studying, great professors, amazing support group... A very good university. I enjoyed every single second of being there.

Charles Moffat

Studied 2 degrees over a 6 year period here between 1999 and 2005. I love to visit the campus every few years. It is interesting to see how much the campus has changed.

Andrea

An academic institution that puts students academic success before prestigious appearances.

Rahel Arefeen

VERY disorganized, unapproachable professors, terrible admin staffs. Dead, too far from everything, expensive parking, minimal student engagement, construction since 2011 and still going on, bad facilities, depressing environment. STAY AWAY, go to Ryerson!

Kevin Jackson

It's a good campus to do graduate studies. their CDS professors are some of the best in Disability Studies and Mad Studies fields.

Febrian

Had a fantastic 4 Year Undergrad here. The students are so mixed in culture and some of the prof. are the best in the country

Jacob

York's campus is not beautiful if you've been to other Ontario Universities. The food is not good, nor is it clean.

Da Ria

Beautiful campus worn gorgeous cherry trees)

Eliza Beckett

It is a good University. The buildings are old but they have good teachers and programs. Some teachers are sometimes bias for some students.

Nafiz Nasser

Excellent

Clayton Wise

Pretty campus, lots of skunks so you gotta watch out and the parties are kinda whack but overall I had fun

Starr Wong

I sent an email and got no response. So I'm writing it here. Just wondering when did Campus Security become Campus PD? I've seen numerous time that a security patrol car speeding down the road, going onto on coming lane and with lights on just to stop at a red light. Safety first.

Terrance Rogers

York is a great school overall. They have also renovated several of their buildings including their student centre and the york lanes. You can also get to downtown in less than 30 on the ttc rocket. Overall, York has done a lot to improve their infrastructure and the quality of education in the last few years.

Zachary P

One day this skid mark on society will be shut down and all the scum that works here is gonna have an extremely hard time finding work. Lets just say a fortune teller told me ;) Good luck you filthbags. More and more "Go Bus" situations are coming your way ;)

Christopher Shaw

Beware of Shyam Ranganathon and Patrick Phillips, two terrible instructors in the philosophy department. These two have a mountain of issues and supremely suck at their careers, always making things personal and abusing their authority. Sociology professor Larry Lam is an abomination to education. Instead of helping students, he keeps making them petition because he is lazy and selfish. Also, he has a terrible temper that is notorious for biting students' heads off. And the fact that he became department head makes the university's reputation even more disturbing. Science instructor Connor Burns sucks too. These three are emotional train wrecks! The counselling centre, run by Enid Weiner, is also incompetent (to say the least). Enid does not care one bit about her clients, she is so selfish. I was physically threatened by Patrick Phillips. I was also physically assaulted by Devon Pugh, a student who admitted to having bipolar disorder and was most likely having an episode. Newsflash, Devon: Just because someone is mentally ill does not mean that they can play the mentally ill card and do whatever they want. These two are disgusting, really, downright disgusting. What did campus security do about these two criminals after I reported them? Absolutely nothing. The retail centre at the Keele campus is quite nice, but besides that the university does not have much to offer. Stop going on strike. All this is my opinion.

Fatima Farah Khan

Seems like nobody knows how to review a university here, because all I see people talking about is campus size and whether York has directional signs or not. And nobody seems to comment on a university's sole purpose -- study programs, faculties or academic ethic of the university... As a prospective student considering his options, don't make the same mistake of picking York over other univs just coz "the commute is shorter". Perhaps better institutions with not so outdated curriculums and faculties are available out there. Definitely not the best option for technical programs out there. - If you want to read a university's review, hear it from it's alumni.

A student

Too biased and political

Alex Mikheev

Mark Bayfield (Biology) is an incredible professor. Same with Tamara Kelly (Biology) and Hovig (chemistry). The school itself is a little dated especially in the curtis lecture halls and steadman building. Expensive parking, unimpressive campus (architecturally), and some obnoxious TAs (Teacher Assistants) made laboratories less interesting than they could have been.

Noella Zam

It's a lovely place..with unique features. That quiet environment is what I love most about it

B Knight

Safety in science research labs FAR below what I've experienced elsewhere. In my experience the safety program was superficial and ineffective. Concerned for my long-term health

Melissa B

Huge campus, but most of the food options are fast food and unhealthy. Professors are hit or miss.

Iris Shen

So hard to find a building on campus, map not so useful.... good view though

York University (French: Université York) is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is Canada's third-largest university, and it has approximately 55,700 students, 7,000 faculty and staff, and over 325,000 alumni worldwide.

Mohannad Hassan

This university causes you a lot of stress and depression. They find your smallest mistakes to make a really big situation out of. All I can say as a third year student here is that this university is not what I thought it would be.

Karen Lapierre

Vari Hall was my favourite place while at York. Great profs.

Elisabeth Sperkach

Enrolling into courses is a very long and manual process. Many students have to email the department directly and wait for a long time to be allowed to enroll into classes that they meet the prerequisites for. By the time the courses are opened up for the students, they are already full. Seems like an issue that can be easily fixed by their IT department, however, it has been like this for years. Might as well be enrolling into courses by snail mail. There are also not enough course offerings which is another reason the courses fill up so quickly. This contributes to not being able to graduate in time because you simply cannot enroll in the classes you require. I recommend attending a different university where their website is 1) simpler and more user friendly 2) they have a straightforward way of enrolling in classes.

Jane Do

Would never let my kids attend this school. I Would rather have them go to any other school than this joke. York is not exactly prestige but tries to act like it is.

ZHU DI

Every time come back here feel much better, spent four years here for school. Really enjoyed it and now it changed so much. But all the residences I’ve stayed are still there.

niki l

Watched the York Women's Soccer team beat Trent. What a great game!!!!

Lakshay Sharma

Looks like a disserted place right now

Mika Felix

Great Uni

M Tobias

York University is a great place for students achieve their academic and career goals. The university offers exceptional programs for students both at the undergraduate and graduate level in many fields. Whether it be for commerce, nursing, eventually becoming a lawyer like Jim Flerity, or even a movie star like Rachel McAdams, York offers academic programs to help students in their future. I myself being an accounting major has found the program excellent in the way the professors teach, the degree structure, and the recognition of these classes for corporations and professional institutes. I have turned down admission offers from the University of Toronto and Waterloo for similar commerce programs that I am in right now. I have to say I am glad to have made this decision especially the university is easily accessible by public transit and it is not far from home. It is unfortunate that York has gone through a lot of scrutiny for security issues nevertheless these things can occur in other universities as well. These issues happen more often in other places such as downtown Toronto. Who is to say if may have occurred in the vicinity of U of T or Ryerson University? These unfortunate events can occur any place at any time. All in all, improvements have to be made and it is unfair that York receives so much negative attention. To leave on a positive note, York has recently received an endowment for a new engineering school (Lassonde School of Engineering) to go along with the two very well-known Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School. It is very rare to see a university with program specific schools within the university. Not to mention York is on the verge of adding a medical school in a few years. The only other school off the top of my head that offers such a wide variety of professional programs would be the University of Toronto. Who ever may be reading this, or may even be a prospective student thinking of coming to York, I would strongly suggest to visit the campus and maybe audit (attend) some lectures to get a better sense of the university.

Zac DC

this place blows big time.. wasted 4 years.. terrible profs, no assistance or any guidance from faculty.. they screw students over by cancelling internship programs and hiring foreign profs who can't even speak english... if you're a highschool student, victory lap and go to a renowned school.. only go to york if you're interested in law or schulich

Lil Stochl

Great hockey people care and everyone wears a mask because they are so glad that hockey is back.

鄭堅信

If I am a Canadian citizen,I would choose to go to University of Toronto or University of Western Ontario or Simon Fraser University. Unfortunately, I am an international student and I can afford the tuition fee of York University only.

Kimya S.

Grievance, after grievance, after grievance. 6 month long strikes... bus routes not stopping at campus anymore... favouritism & politics within faculties. ????

gumbo Sweet

This school is a joke... TWO strikes on campus this year? If I had to do it again I would have gone to UofT. I hold several degrees already and York is the only school I would never recommend. On orientation day I saw the facilitator be so mean to these international students about not understanding how to sign up for classes. They genuinely didn't understand and the lady publically shamed them and they left. She didn't even bother to explain it to them. Also they keep screwing up my documents like transfer credits etc. And never call you back. I was told it would take a full year to change my program even though I took the initiative to get all the paperwork done for them!! Now I know why UofT's English program is in the top 5 and York's didn't even make the top 170.

Paul K

Alumini13 here. this is great school to learn and have fun. York was the best school for me and I had so much fun and learned a lot here

Paul Merton

It is the best university in the Northern Hemisphere. I hope my kids can attend York, a true beacon of education, to become McDonalds managers.

Kamyab F

worst university in Canada. They only care about money. Go to U of T, Mcmaster, or Western instead.

Shirma Adhu

The enrollment was a nightmare! Parking is a total ripoff! Let's see what the year holds.

Matthew Pelloe

oustanding teacher and study program, this university provide the most great student

Nicole Santos

If I can give a 0 review I would. I came here thinkig it would be great. It was easy to train here cause it was one Go bus from mississauga. Now 3 years in. We had a strike and they're still trying to deal with it. They are now making busing harder for all their commuter students. York sucks all around. Go to a different school.

Erica

My experience with York U was so bad that Google doesn't even let me share it!

Giovanni Succo

Great If your interested in digging tunnels under campus. Not so great If your a woman after 8pm

Noah Lee

Terrible Wi-Fi. Perhaps spend less money on exorbitantly high faculty salaries and more on amenities for students.

Alie

York University is a world class institution where great minds meet great professors and great students, it's a school with multiple programs for undergraduate, graduate and PhD with experience professors, adequate equipment, research laboratories and serene environment for learning.

Margarita Keimakh

You’ll get a degree from a university that is a convenient commute from many surrounding areas. Can’t say I had the time of my life but I graduated Summa Cum Laude and got a decent job that supports my growing family. There are some interesting professors but like anywhere else you need to do your homework and find them. Campus is diverse and large but not much of a school culture exists here. Be sure to follow up on credits to ensure you graduate on time as york loves to pull students in for an extra year. They also love to strike so god be with you hoping you don’t get burdened by these shenanigans every few years.

Sam H.

Terrible school, runs like a corrupt business. You will not complete your full term without having a strike disrupt it. Im surprised employers don't laugh when they see a York graduate applying to their establishment.

Li Zhen

last week I went to YorkU. The York University totally different from my university (China). I like it more and more when I know more about the York U. 1) Atmosphere, less competition more cooperation, the student is more active 2) Strong Business and Art school background culture for all students 3) Strong Alumnus networking that is very useful for students to find the job 4)The new Markham campus is very nearby my home I hope after I graduate from my university 25 years, I can go back to York University for study. Wish all YorkU students enjoy your study and life. I am the mother of one YorkU student

Larry Mister

Graduated in 95' now my daughter just graduated there

Flavia M.

Great university! Beautiful buildings, parks and a lot of facilities on campus! Definitely to recommend!

Sahil Joshi

Has the worst financial aid office ever. Single handedly ruins my experince every year for 4 semesters in a row now. They never provide osap information regarding my enrollment and costs when OSAP requests it so I have to call them multiple times. I ALREADY CALLED TWICE , just this semester alone. When I called the second time, the male employee on the phone said ok it has been forwarded and you will get an email. Im on exchange right now so them screwing up again is putting me in a real sticky situation. Im in the 5th out of 6 months in and they only provided additinal living funding for 3 months. I applied for the second half into the end of the third month and they have had now almost a month and a half to send the information to OSAP.

Dimitri Delinois

Today, i was not nearly in the regular shape i am accustomed to and a gentleman by the name of John (we did not get into the last name calling, lol) spoke to me coincidentally on notions about anger management and management at best that I was reflecting upon earlier; which made the difference in the day. Cheers, what a campus!

Mik Neca

Great campus, but very limited options for parking.

Juan Lopez

I love York University and everything about it! From the great faculty members to the helpful and delightful students! Graduate Year 2016

Romeo Juliet

I don't know why Google keeps hiding my review re: York. Anyway, York is the place where they took my hard earned tuition money and treated me like manure. I've had some friendly schoolmates, knowledge profs and helpful staff but overall, admin, academic/career advising and campus safety are all terrible. Don't go here for undergrad especially if you are an international student.

Gerald Smith

Stunning university!! There are numerous buildings and facilities on the campus. Staff is very friendly

Shayan Last

Most of the profs and TA’s are amazing and really care about what they’re teaching, especially during these difficult times, the profs and TAs go in and out of their ways to help their students. University is more than just going to class however, there are amazing events and cubs that students to could join, most people are really nice and welcoming while others really enjoy creating drama. The only thing I am not a fan of is management, for example, during course selection you would need a course as a requirement for your major and once you try to add it, you will get an error saying the course is reserved. Certain requests take months to finish due to York’s amazing organization, and they would really York up your student online statement. Other than all this I made relationships that will last a lifetime.

Wang William

Bad customer service from HLLN program education. I applied this program last June and started study from October last year. In December I was told I was not qualified in this program because I left something empty in my application form. …

mike7820 s

I got a ticket while parked at yorKU worth $100. Apparently I parked near a fire hydrant which I DIDNT DO. The ticket officers lurked in the bushes and fined me when the campus was nearly empty in summer holidays. I appealed online via YorkU website. I got an appeal denial letter. It says if I didnt pay the $105 (now $5 extra admin fees) I wont be able to graduate. Every month they send me a new letter with an extra $5 added per month on top of the original ticket. My ticket is now about $135 and next moth it will increase again. I looked at how "yorku security and parking officers" drove around like crazy maniacs in slow zones and act like they are big goons. They are the ones who should be ticketed. Moreover, is what YorkU doing even legal?? YorkU giving wrongful tickets and YorkU denying appeals. Then forcing poor students to pay or else they wont graduate. THIS IS CRIMINAL AND ILLEGAL. Did YorkU FIND A NEW OF EXTORTING MONEY OUT OF INNOCENT PEOPLE? I know in the past many of yorku own employees have been charged with thefts and grand thefts. I wonder if this is this a new way they found for thieving??? SHAME ON YOU FOR GIVING OUT A WRONGFUL TICKET.

Rocco Continenza

We saved money for years to send our son to University. Unbelievable how yorks staff deprived him for an education we paid for. Absolute A holes.

affan pathan

Horrible school, keep taking your money and never let you graduate, make you submit a petition for everything which takes so long to process by the time your enrolment period ends and u have to wait an other semester just because the university’s processes are so slow. Rather go to an other university.

Cara Zoffranieri

how can an educational institution such as this expect anyone to respect a degree earned here when they allow faculty to go on strike so often and for ridiculous periods of time? THIEVES!

Terry Millar

The York University, Keel Street campus is absolutely beautiful. It is fairly large compared to other Universities in Ontario. The campus is very well maped out and functional. There are plenty of choices for food and entertainment. The last few years there has been alot of construction in the area including on the campus itself to upgrade and modernise the experience.they have recently added two new dormitories and are curently buolding a state of the art student center. Hopefully this rewiew was informative and helpful. Enjoy

Zainab Mahdi

Only good for undergrad degree, leave this place as soon as you can. The profs don't care about you, the staff are meh. If you have any issues, it will take a century to resolve. Good luck to you.

The Vegedemic

I've done two degrees at this university and the institution has only improved over the years. The campus is easy to navigate, there are more food options available now, multicultural environment (students from around the GTA and world come to this school), and there's always events going on throughout the year. York gets a bad rep because of the strikes, but tbh there are strikes at other universities too - they just don't end up on the news (media bias much). I know students from UofT as well, and in comparison both are quite similar - you are not going to be left behind if you have a degree from York (contrary to popular belief). I know several students who ended up very successful after graduating (med school, law school, masters, PhD, etc.), which reinforces the idea that what you do with your degree will depend entirely on you, and what you make out of your education and your experience at York also depends on you. Transportation is easily accessible with the new subway, but sadly it doesn't help students who live on the East end of Toronto. York is also very popular among mature students, you meet people from all walks of life coming back to school to pursue a different career entirely. In terms of grades, be aware that York is not a bell curving school, I know UofT does bell curve a lot of its class, but that doesn't happen often at York. Finally, like any other university you will meet good AND bad professors, it is inevitable. Again, this is being unfairly judged. Name one school that has good ratings for every professor that teaches there, I doubt you can come up with one. The cons that I do agree with, is that the university gets really crowded in the Fall/Winter because of the mass amount of students which makes tasks like getting food, books, etc., tedious. Food service is not always that great, you can never find a seat to study anywhere (unless you come super early), administration still makes mistakes which can impact students negatively, and it can sometimes take forever to get grades from professors. Overall, my experience at York has been great and the campus is beautiful! Much better than downtown IMO. P.S. If you have an aversion to liberal minded people or liberal/social democratic ideologies, then do not come to this school.

john lockeypie

Beautiful memories of my life, great educational experience and made some awesome friends while there.

Filsan Musa

Nice Campus, but the location suck. Overall I find York university to be a very decent school. The professors are also great. The TA's are a mix.

Octavian Barbu

Great university. Loved the professors, atmosphere and people. It prepared me for my next chapter in life very well.

az za

Do your homework - check actual industry job boards to see if there is a demand BEFORE you enroll in a program and invest money and good years. Expect to need a professional designation, industry certification, or college degree after graduating. Don't expect the profs or University to tell you this.

Mohit Yadav

The campus is huge, with internet connectivity all around. But the amount of street crime takes place is highly disturbing.

Janelle

If i could give this institution a zero star I would. It is probably the worse university in the GTA for staff assistance, course selection, transportation and moreee, not including the consistent strikes. If that doesnt say something i don't know what does. The only thing theyre useful for is broad course selection and yet it doesnt seem to be of much use because all of the popular courses are held on the same day at the same time so youre limited in what you can take. I regret every single day choosing YorkU and I would sincerely advise anyone against attending york. It has been the worse couple of years for it and there is no one to turn to. They are the literal image of an institution taking your money and offering little payback. All the resources they inform you about are a joke because no one knows where to direct you or is unwilling to help and sends you right back in a circle. There are a few genuine and kind professors but the administration staff? Absolute garbage.

Shoban S

Great atmosphere and friends. Everyone's super friendly!!! I graduated back in 2006.

Shawna B

Home of Schulich Business School. Excellent case based program. Location can be risky at night.

Stanley B

Concrete maze, I have to say i got some spooky vibes from here when I would visit in the evening. Come prepared with a how to get to your destination

Tony Patterson

from lectures getting cancelled, ignorant faculty members to dumb student advisors, no wonder everyone hates York. They have no plan on how to compensate students for the Staff strike and this has delayed graduations for a lot of students. I wonder how this university is still operating. Merging this with an other uni will be the best option.

Eddie B

At the university level, each student is responsible for creating his/ her personal experience. You can either have a great time or not, depending on what you choose to invest in your education. I personally had a great time at York. It offers interdisciplinary options which I had taken advantage of... and now 20 years down the road after graduation, I can look back and say I did the right thing by going to York, meeting the right people there, and having experiences that now give me an advantage over my peers.

daniel fomengia

York Ù a place to be ????????????

A C

Troublesome administration. Doesn't feel like they look out for students or contract faculty. I've had many great profs however.

Sanman Kulkarni

Aside from being a great educational institution, it is a beautiful university...

Reena Kadri

They go on strike a lot. It messes up everything for students and it seems like no one cares about that part. Students end up graduating later than expected and it messes with their credits. The university doesn’t shovel stairs during the winter and simply closes them off. That is ridiculous as you have to enter buildings another way, whereas before you could have went in much simpler. The don’t shovel other areas properly and with salt. Also, it is a very sketchy area where the university is located. Lots of robberies and assaults (just do a simple check on Google). Gave it 2 stars because the campus itself is good. They actually are one of the few that have a law school. The layout of the uni is nice, very easy to navigate since lots of buildings connect. Overall cons: strikes, maintenance, area is risky

Heather Abenaa

Awesome school, awesome program! do not believe what you hear or see in the media it's hardly the truth!

Derekhe1988

York Lanes Mall had all the stores and restaurants students need.

Graduated a few years ago, and in retrospect I really feel that they gave me value for my tuition. Overall no regrets. Loved the campus, the food options are the best out of all the uni campuses I've visited

Brian Maracle

Site roadways and most parking areas are not large vehicle friendly. There is a large lot off of Steele St but still tight to move around when there are lots of other vehicles in there.

Ayinde Yusuf

It's was an exciting place to visit one in a while.

Shui Fong

Love the security folks spread around the campus.

Hearing Eyes

It is a large campus and very walkable. Unfortunately, there is nothing to see here as the views are bland. Everything to do is concentrated in a few food hubs, though some libraries and the university having it's own station is a plus if you're commuting.

If I could leave the stars blank I would. This school is terrible. Some of the profs are nice but majority of them are pretty unhelpful. I will not go here for Graduate studies nor do I recommend this to any other future students. The school is also very unsafe. There are daily attacks and the security does not follow up on issues either. Theft, sexual assault, harassment, etc. This is like the Gotham City of Universities lol. I had a Professor who harassed me and when I tried to follow up on it, I could not reach out to anyone for help. Awful. I am embarrassed to be a alumni of this school. I am disgusted with these people really, they will not get another cent from me.

Andre Rast

Somewhat confusing trying to get directions and building's figured out...

Abbas K

Horrible. Took a summer class here and students are rude, professors think they're the smartest people to walk this earth.

Stuart Gatz

Great Huuuuuge place...bring a map and a bike or walking shoes. Parking is limited and in different places, check google maps before you go.

Timothy Leonard

Huge university, focused on undergraduate churn. Top rated law and business schools.

dbk5711

Purely incompetent administration, parking is run by dictators, campus is dreary, location is abysmal. Professors are adequate

Elizabeth N

The campus is nice, but huge lol However not enough parking, my friend and I always end up parking across the street from school, and walking 20 mins into the campus.

Rae x

so York is attempting to expel students who have occupied a space in one of their buildings as a protest for a tuition refund (after 5 months of strike!) should probably say a lot about this uni

Sonja Lees

Moved our grandson into the University for his move in date and time, no directions, no signage, tried to get info, everything was closed. Finally after a half hour of his time slot we got some info. The dorm was less than desirable, not too clean, and trying to sort out his student card was a nightmare, took all day constantly calling and trying to get a hold of someone. I hope the lack of support we experienced will not be a sign that will continue for this first year student!

Andrew Brown

Great service and great location.

Nathan Hammond

Great place to learn, study, get a job at. I recommend it for anyone who wants to, you know.

this should be york college not university. The school is all about money and they strike all the time im glad i switched to ryerson just in time.

donald mckay

Busy place nice new dorms going up

Abubakar Ibrahim

It was a nice university alot of people talking about it I really want 2 join the university 2021

First of all, let me just say that there are fantastic professors and teachers at York, who could really give stellar classes if the school wasn't perpetually caught in a fight between admins and the unions. You, as a student, will NOT be respected for your rights, and WILL be used as a tool in their fight. DO NOT go to this school if you value your time and money.

The campus is really nice and actually does't seem like a commuter school. Theres a lot of stuff to do around campus but a lot of the lecture halls are old and depressing. Best thing about going to York is the fact that many of the first and second year courses are offered through out the week which means you can have 5 classes in a semester and still be going to school 2 days a week. A bus literally goes to everywhere from here, especially the go busses, you can pretty much touch any major go station. The business school (Shulich) is great if you have the average to get in. If you cant make that program, then the alternative program is called administrative studies, and you end up with a BAS degree.. The program is not great and I would recommend the BCOM program at Ryerson. Also, York for some reason forces you to take long full year social science, humanities and natural science courses which is basically 80% of your first year, these courses are long and boring and require a ton of reading. The school is located in a really boring are, surrounded by industrial buildings, it can get really depressing just going to school. The school has good places to eat within campus and a lot of them are halal. The classes are huge and it can be hard to make friends if you commute to school since most people barley ever show up to lectures. Overall, the school is OKAY nothing special, the only good thing I find about it is the campus.

Professor Mah Wah Wong is the best professor at York University in math and statistics department.

elena simionescu

York University is not what it used to be.. Took some courses after 20+ years and attended with the worst of the worst, the cream of the society's worst. Even the professor didn't care. Reminded me more of The Jungle camp than a University... Ashamed to have anything to do with it.

Chris D

Worst experience as a student. Staff do not care here. Seems everyone is just about the money here.

Allen Danes

An Excellent school, I did my bba here and now completing my graduate degree as well. Top quality faculty and facilities, with the subway coming in York is going to be a completely new place!

John H.

Wonderful university. I did my undergrad in engineering and found employment upon graduation. Professors were great and I met a ton of bright students throughout my 4 year program. Advice: Work hard and get take advantage of those internships that york offers to students in honours! York is headed in a good direction. I can see good things happening in the near future.

Sin Jaz

Campus is okay, some Parts are dirty. The pizza pizza in Vari hall is really good. Library is always packed and it can be hard to find a place to study during exam time.

Cecelia Leung

Online learning more better saves my other expenses.

K I

Overcrowded and outdated facilities, lecturers consistently cut classes short, most lecturers seem uninterested or lack knowledge of the subject. Non existent student financial support. Waste of time and money.

Diana P

Avoid this institution at all costs. I have lived through 2 strikes in this school, of which the second has stopped me from graduating on time and ruined my a year ahead. Too bad zero stars is not an option. Deeply dissapointed and disheartened.

EECS boyz

This is the worst university education I've ever received. Do not ever go here. The CUPE Union at this university strikes the campus every 3 years,of which the strike usually lasts for 6 months. This means that every 3 years one semester is cancelled. This throws people back a year since there are alot of fall/winter exclusive classes. The Engineering department at York is corrupt with sons/daughters of faculty members receiving 40,000$ scholarships that are usually reserved for people who are NOT financially stable. It should be noted that close family memebers of faculty already receive free tuition.

Ian Carty

York has a bit of a bad reputation, but it's a really nice university and I've enjoyed my time here. The administration is putting a lot of money into construction that will really improve the campus in the next couple years when it's completed. The same can be said about the subway station when it's also finally finished because it will make a massive difference to the accessibility of the school. Scott library needs to be three times its current size because it is ridiculously packed all the time.

Mohsin Sattar

A university for those who simply want to learn. Feels more like a factory producing talented students than a university providing education but it does the job.

fmas saxx

Great business school and great varsity programs. I enjoyed my experiences at both Schulich and playing varsity sport. Very diverse school

Gurvaj Dhaliwal

Best University hands down. I went here for the BAS Honours Accounting and Marketing program graduated in 2016. Most positive experience Helped me get me professional employment to buy my first house/ BMW and Mercedes Benz couldn't of done or had it without this school.

Qurrah Choudhry

Spent 4 amazing years here (graduated in 2010). I love this place with all my heart. Worked as a call-centre agent back in the day for the institution and it was fun. I have memories of superb times with friends I made and enriching educational experiences with some of the professors. I admire York University and recommend others to study there.

Syed Amin

Fantastic if you want to be a mugging or stabbing victim. Also really good if you enjoy strikes! :)

Nicholas Pellegrino

Slightly sketch at night. Not bad by day. Best/safest part of Jane/Finch. Nice place though...

Soroush Lotfahmadi

Improving from what it's been reported and reputed as, which is a commuter school that's unsafe and has bad academics. They are trying to hire more enthusiastic employees. There needs to be renovation or some initiative to make the school feel more friendly and inviting in terms of its social life and its infrastructure.
