I enjoy the new layout. However, they now routinely understaff the registers, expecting people to check themselves out. This often causes extensive delays during checkout. In some instances it can be an upward of a 20 minute wait. Additionally, prices seem to be artificially inflated when compared to the Windsor St. Location. The staff is friendly though.

Google maps misled me today by showing this branch open on Easter Sunday! Updating the post on 2021 Jun 22nd: Jessica who works in deli gave me free a pack of free burger paddies because I spent more than ten dollars. Her behavior and responsibility to her customers is astonishingly amazing. Hiring such a great expert means a lot to the Sobey's customers. I'm giving five stars today hoping her manager sees this.

Tuesday is a student discount day, and I LITERALLY go there ALL THE TIME! TBH I've always known they had bad attitude, I go there because of that one lady(with long hair) who has a beautiful smile on her face all the time. Unfortunately, I didn't see her today and went to another person. I wanted to show her my airmiles and my student ID, but she took both of my cards away BEFORE even LETTING ME FINISH MY SENTENCE. I literally said "This is my airmiles and my...." and she took them away and gave me a weird look in the face like those were my traveling documents that needed to take an extra look to make sure I didn't cross the border illegally! I DONT CARE IF YOU HAD A BAD DAY! I DONT EVEN NEED YOU TO SMILE TO ME! I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU I HAVE MY "DOCUMENTS" ! JUST LET ME FINISH MY SENTENCE BEFORE YOU SUSPECT SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps. Witnessed a cashier being rude to a customer because they were apparently too slow detaching a Sobeys coupon from the coupon sheet. The coupon sheet was provided to the customer by the employee for use with that transaction. Don't give out clunky coupons for people to use then and there, maybe? Many employees seem to hate working there the last few months. I never thought I'd prefer Superstore to Sobeys Queen Street, but here we are.

It's an older Sobeys but pretty nice. Unique building and a bit smaller than what I'm used to. Still, they had everything I needed and the pharmacist I talked to there was super friendly and helped me out pretty well. Check out was fast and efficient and it had a great location.

The entrance smells like rotting animal carcasses, so that's a nice experience when you're walking in to buy food. They advertise online that there's a sensory friendly shopping hour on Sundays, but they don't actually do it. The lights are super bright, loud PA announcements - not exactly sensory friendly.

I personally find prices are higher than neighboring grocers such as Atlantic Superstore or Walmart. The use of air miles is handy if you're into collecting those. They were undergoing a major construction change the last time I was in and it was surprisingly still organized inside. The cashiers never seem to be super friendly, even if you try to start a conversation or compliment them.

Horrible grocery store. I made a conscious decision to stop shopping at this location completely and shop exclusively at superstore which has better selection, superior staff and in most cases, better pricing. This Sobey's location is also flithy and dingy sorely in need of a renovation. The ONLY reason I shopped here today was because I had to stop at the post office across the street and it was more convenient than walking down to Barrington Street. I won't make this mistake again.

I asked the cashier to change a toonie to two loonies and she was yelling at me " sir we don't sell changes" And i told her i did it here three days ago how would I know it is a forbidden thing and I should not have asked. The layout is weird, alleys are narrow, the flow is not logical or consistent.....but the absolute dumbest thing I ever seen is the short check out counters !! Its ok if you have 1 bag full but if you have 2-10 bags...it ain't going to work. Also only 1 cart depot in the whole parking ! It was my first time there.....and my last. No need to reply with your corporate speeches. You blew it at that unit

Clean, products are well showcased in a clean, full service store which includes a pharmacy, bakery and meat department which will make custom cuts for you. Organic products are available as a well as toiletries and of course, all groceries that one would need. Do not expect excessive variety or clothing. This is a grocery store in Nova Scotia and not a special foods store.

WORST FROZEN FOOD SECTION of ANY grocery store I've ever seen. Also DO NOT BUY their plants, they are all infested with gnats and will turn your home into a giant bug fest. Was here a couple weeks back and now that they don't have plastic bags since it's "bad" for the environment, I was carrying out my purchased groceries in a cart. As I was leaving this employee rudely called out, "excuse me sir" as she grabbed my arm. On seeing my receipt in hand, she said, "oh I thought you dropped something". Yeah right lady.... Sobeys, if you're getting rid of bags, employ door people to check for receipts as Costco does... How much do you really care for the environment?

I've been shopping at this location for years... and I find the new lay-out after the renovations awful!!! I found four different egg displays, and only one of the displays had the eggs I buy. I've had several occasions where I could not find a simple item after 20 minutes like nail clippers, and batteries... but luckily the employees are friendly, and very helpful. I definitely miss the old lay-out.

I go to the store where there is cases of 24 pop on sale but there is a clerk and a person that owns a corner store she is buying three shopping cart full of cases. I try to get one and it is snatched from me and she states but she is buying them all. Well what about the regular customers I worked for Superstore for 6 years in the late 90s. And we had an unwritten rule about those types of things we would not sell all our stock to a person who owns another store or restaurant and leave the regular customers hanging this is not right there should have been a limit especially for a person who owns a corner store and it's just trying to resell this item and make a profit why should I go home empty-handed and this person wants to resell and make a profit on 3 carpals this is not right I expect a change

The produce is cheaper at this location, but groceries cost more. The staff are friendly, but I've run into issues where they wont give me a student discount unless I have air miles. It's a strange rule that can be infuriating.

Terrible terrible grocery store. They often lack basic items. The meat is often stomach-churning and the butchers don't cut it properly. Almost every time I've come here to buy ingredients for something, they don't have one of them. Once they didn't have potatoes, once it was eggs. Yes, eggs.

Was served by Jane today. And oh my. Does she know that her job is customer service. First she out right says she doesn't believe us on the price we said something was supposed to be. And when we try to tell her where it was she raises her hand to have us stop talking.... and guess what we were even right about the price. And not a single wow that's a good buy or sorry about that. Nothing worst Sobeys. I used to work for Sobeys and her position is literally called front end customer service clerk.

I bought cleaned Smelts today and there was a moving worm inside. Disgusting and bad hygiene ???????????? From such an expensive place like Sobeys one would expect a high quality and not worms. I wonder what else is crawling in their food prep areas.

Worst sobeys. In addition to their racism scandals, the Produce is always rotting, bought a cake and it was mouldy and they wouldn't take it back. The smell from the side room is so bad it makes their bread taste like spoiled milk (which makes sense as I've been told by delivery folk just how disgusting the delivery and storage room is) Only nice things I can say are that the people who work the front line (not management) are very kind and helpful, and the meat and cheese selection is good (lots of Franco stuff like mtl bagels- the only reason I go) but would definitely avoid and the higher ups should be embarrassed.

Newly renovated. I found the set up odd. But the store is spotless. Prices are steep. It is not that busy so a great place for a quick shop using the self check out. Lots of parking even when busy.

We, along with many other people, were passing by and stopped at the gate to read the notice THEY hung on the door, when one female employee peeked out saying " there's no use of waiting, we don't know when we'll open" in a discourteous tone declining our stop to read the closure note they left for the customers A complete unacceptable behaviour after going through a hurricane yesterday, keeping in mind that we haven't even asked for anything... we just stopped to read a note! If she'd given us a second there, she would've seen us gone after reading.

Update - Covid has impacted wait time in line, which is maybe 3-5 minutes now depending on time of day. Still the best around. For its size its the best little grocery store around. I started going there in 1994. Often you'll be the first one in line, usually has parking close to the entrance, selection is better than I expect for the size, there are no funky smells in the meat department, and staff on the floor are always smiling and happy to be of service. No attached liquor store but there is one on the other side of the parking lot. There are often heavily discounted meals and sides in the glass case about 50' inside the main entrance, slightly to the right. Update - still very modest but international foods section seems to be growing along with increasing foreign student population.

One of the cashiers was super rude to me .. she made me feel i did not belong here(im new to halifax). I am used to costco so i didnt know that paper bags are 10cents .. long story short she did not ask if i wanted a plastic bag so i assumed it was okay to grab a paper bag myself !! ALSO the salmon that I bought had an expiry date early august but when i returned home and opened it the smell was just bad !
