When we first moved to Nanaimo, we had an awful problem with ants. We called around and finally settled on this guy as he had a one year guarantee with no call back fee plus a 2 year warranty with a 95.00 fee in the 2nd and third year. He came out and gave the full treatment. A few months later we had to call him back a second time and he kept putting us off and off and it took a threat to get him to come out. He then stated he would come out again in 6 weeks and even programmed it into his phone. We never hear back, he won't answer our calls and we still have another 2 years on the warranty, so we will probably have to take him to court. Don't waste your money on this shyster.

Dan was great. He was reliable, helpful, gave us the knowledge to prevent the problem for happening again. He got rid of our rat problem within 30 days. He always came back to check on the traps every week. I was happy with the service and would recommend him to anyone needing an exterminator.

Dan was hired to treat a cockroach infestation. He sold a one year guarantee program to us. Of course, he was paid up-front. When it came time to treat, he would only do 4 units at a time and every few weeks as he claimed it was too far for him to come more often. Since he started treating, the tenants have complained that there are more cockroaches than ever before. I contacted him to advise that if we continued to follow his schedule it would take 22 weeks to treat the building once. As the property manager, I advised him that he needs to be more aggressive, otherwise, the cockroaches will never be eradicated. His response was that I am not to tell him how to do his job and if any tenants cancel, the warranty is void. He then sends me a text two minutes later and cancels a pre-booked appointment as he decided to make plans with his family instead. When I questioned him about his double standard cancellation policy he stated "he was done and would not be refunding us anything". Do not hire Dan. He is unprofessional, fought with several of our tenants, caretaker, and I defended him...not any more. He also refused to show his license and documentation when asked, which is against the law.

Dan still owes me 1365.00 that him and his girlfriend stole from me, he does not have a business license and he doesn't have a license from the ministry of environment to do work as a pest control.

I would not recommend this company. Initially I was pleased. I contacted Dan and he made an appointment to come out to our place - we had a mice infestation. On the phone he explained that he would make return visits and that satisfaction was guaranteed. He set traps and set down bait in various places in the house. He took our money as payment was in advance. That was the last we saw of him but definitely not the last we saw of the mice. He did not return to our place to check the traps, he did not return calls. I have to say in fairness that he had a good reason in the first week as his baby was born. HOWEVER, he did not return calls or get back to us at all after the first week when he told us about his baby and cancelled one return visit. Meanwhile, we had mice and had to do all the cleanup and work ourselves. Finally we called in another company who did a thorough job of inspection and made suggestions, and I might add, did NOT charge us a penny because by then we had rid ourselves of the mice. DO NOT USE ISLAND PEST CONTROL.

Disappointing. We had a mouse problem in August. Dan said he put down enough poison to last for about two years. We paid $325 and were told that he would be back each week to check on the bait, see if the mice have left, then seal up the holes where the mice were getting in. We never heard from him again and our calls to him have never been answered. The mice are back in the house again. So, essentially we paid $325 for some mouse bait that we could have purchased from Home Depot ourselves for $14.

I was having a book club and discovered a massive wasp nest in my wood splitter. Called Island Pest Control and told Dan how urgent it was to get this wasp nest out before my 6pm book club and he scheduled me right. Very professional service. He wore a mask ( many thanks) and completed the job quickly and the price was fair. Thank you Dan.

Dan was so awesome and helpful! Treated my home for termites and carpenter ants, and gave me a great discount for getting both done! He was super friendly and knowledgable. Intially I was happy with the service provided. Dan was able to come the same day for and urgent problem. When it come to honouring his guarantee it's another story entirely. I made him aware as soon as I found out that there was still pests. He said he would call back. I followed up a couple days later after not hearing back and he told me he would be there on Friday. I drove an hour to the house only to have him not show up. I called and the person who answered assured me he would return my call. I tried calling back again after not hearing back and no answer. After blocking my caller ID I got the same person as before and again, she assured me he would return my call. I've attempted many calls today and they either ring and go to vm or go straight to vm.

I have lived on Vancouver Island for 12 years. During that period I have dealt with at least 5 different Pest control companies for rodent infestations in the various homes I have owned in the Oceanside area. Of all the companies and staff I have dealt with, Dan Negrin of Island Pest Control in Nanaimo was by far the best. Not only was he reliable and quick to assess and start remedying the problem, he always went above and beyond the call of duty. I have previously had pest control companies who didn't want to do anything but set traps (one company didn't even want to go up in the attic to assess the situation as it would be "too hot" up there.....) The companies who were willing to seal the entry points did a poor job and the infestation continued. I continually had to pay contractors or handymen to do the work that had supposedly already been done. However not so with Dan Negrin. He was thorough and inspected both the attic and crawl space and then took care of the problem including finding and sealing the entry points. As busy as he was, he always responded within minutes if I contacted him and he inspected the traps every week as promised. If he said he would be at my home within a certain time period he was, and on the rare occasion when he was delayed, he always let me know. I can't recommend Dan highly enough. His professionalism & expertise were much appreciated and he will be my 1st call if I have any other pest problems in future homes.

I have dealt with several Pest Control companies both in Nanaimo and Victoria and this is the best experience I have ever had. Excellent customer service and follow up care. i called these people to remove a wasp nest located at peak of my home and they gave me a fair quote over the phone and was on site in one day...the person sprayed the wasp nest with environmentally safe chemical and and problem solved...was very happy with price and service,i highly recommend this company for speedy service and a good gaurantee of 90 days if any issue come up

Highly recommend island pest control. Fast reponce time, left a voicemail and called back promptly to set up a time the next day to deal with our bed bug infestation. Thoroughly explained the whole process and answered all our questions and concerns about the pestisides used. Also had a warranty for all the work done. Thanks again.

Very dissatisfied. Job not done properly and would not return to fix despite warranty/guarantee. Screens calls. Expensive - later to find out he charges around double of others in the area. Has a reputation among the other pest control companies who have been called in repeatedly to do the job that he failed to do. Wouldn't give refund.

This guy is not working up to his verbal contract and takes advantage of people. He is lazy and will not plug holes if they are too difficult to reach. I highly recommend using someone else. If you use this guy make sure you have a written contract and not just a verbal one.

Dan insisted on cash payment before he would do the work. He charged us much more than previous companies had charged but we needed the carpenter ant work done asap. He told us that the $600 fee provided a 2 year guarantee. However, the ants came back but he didn't . He hasn't answered our calls or responded to our attempts to have him remedy the problem.

I had bad experience with other pest company. I had neighbour recomend dan from Island pest control. I saw some bad reviews but decided to give him a try anyway since my neighbour spoke so highly of him. I am glad i did! Dan is so pleasant, answered all my questions and got rid of problem on the first try. It made me feel secure knowing that there was a good warranty and that he would come back as many times as needed (wich he did for my neighbour) i would use him again and recomend him to anyone looking for pest services. This guy is a saint! Seriously can't thank him enough. Dealing with my elderly mother in-law is no easy task. She has a fear of rodents and Dan couldn't have bin more accomadating to her. Came back numerous times and actually completely got rid of them within 2 weeks. Amazing!

I just want to reiterate that this guy is to be avoided at all cost. You don't want to go there. The bug infestation at my house is a reminder. Absolutely the worst.! Don't solve pest problems ..and don't back up their warranty. Insist on getting paid in cash so they don't have to declare income.. Dan who runs the company is awful to deal with. Why is this company still in business?

Suspiciously fast service for a high price then gone with no call backs for evidence of the same problem a few weeks later. Unfortunate I did not read all of these reviews before we gave him $900. Go with a larger company.

Very impressed! Island Pest Control treated for rodents and did a full crawl space and attic clean out. Taking out all the soiled and smelly insulation and disinfecting and deodorizing afterwards! I'm so happy with their work, I can't say enough good things about them. Just so pleased. Thanks!

Horrible, dishonest company. I was just notified by a friend that the owner accepted an e-transfer of a large amount of money that was not meant for him back in January of this year. My friend was off by one digit in the phone number she meant to send the money to and this guy accepted the transfer knowing the money wasn't for him. When she found out who he was and confronted him, he blamed it on an employee's girlfriend (??) and later accused her (my friend) of already getting the money back and "double-dipping". He no longer replies to her texts. The last thing he sent to her was "I'll pay you back on my terms". User beware when it comes to e-transfers, but the dishonesty and crookedness of this company is mind-blowing. This guy is shady, unprofessional, and a thief. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!

DO NOT USE - A WASTE OF MONEY & HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - Dan is the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. He will take your money and run. He guarantee's his work for 90 days after his first visit - but you won't ever see him again. We had a rodent issue and decided to use Island Pest Control as they were available the same day we realized we had an infestation. He told us he put enough poison in our crawlspace and attic to kill hundreds of rats and we wouldn't have a problem within a week or two once they ingested this poison. At this time he would come back and lay down more poison and remove any dead rats that had died inside. He also said that he would help us to locate the areas in which the rats were entering from so that we could fill them. After 3 weeks I called him to have him come back and fulfill what he said he would do. He declined to answer any phone calls from my husband and I as he recognized the numbers. I ended up getting ahold of him by calling from someone else's phone - I explained who I was and the situation and that I felt like he had been avoiding our calls, and all I wanted was for him to come back and complete his job - he promptly told me to F*$k Off and hung up on me. My husband did the same thing - called from a number he wouldn't recognize.. and same thing... was told to go F8%k himself and was hung up on. I have never been treated so poorly by a "business". Please save yourself the headache and choose a PROFESSIONAL Pest Control Company.

I tried everything to get rid of the ants. When a big black ant walked across our sofa ottoman while we were entertaining company & everyone stopped in silence, it was extremely embarrassing. The called Dan the next morning & as soon as he did his thing there were a few dead ants in the house, but mostly outside. He came back a couple more times & now they’ve been gone for 1 1/2 years. If I see some , I email him or phone and do just a perimeter spray. All is good now Thank you Dan :)

The WORST!!!! Numerous complaints with BBB (17) all with similar issues...doesn't resolve infestation problem and doesn't back up warranty. Screens his calls after he gets your money. When you finally do reach him ( by calling from a different phone number so he can't screen the call), he's extremely rude/belligerent, and hangs up on you. He doesn't even use commercial grade pesticides because he doesn't have a license for it (admits it on his reply to one of the Google review complaints). Better off buying Raid at store and applying yourself. I can' t believe this clown is still in business. STAY AWAY!!!!

I had old Island Pest Control come out to take care of some squirrel problems that I have and they were there and put a ladder without the safeguards on up against my eavestroughs and caused $400 worth of damage and I am still waiting after several months to hear back from them even though they have said that they would take care of the problem because they didn't like the quote that was given to me by my eavesdrop people . Still waiting, thank you
