You have all the opinions of real people like you who buy the services and products of Short Hills Provincial Park (Park) in the area of Welland (Canada).
As of day the firm receives a rating of 4.6 over 5 and this rating has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can see the average of ratings is nearly the highest, and it's founded on a high number of reviews, so we can conclude that the evaluation is very accurate. If many people have bothered to value when they are satisfied with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Park corresponds to the category of Park.
A good way to spend a couple of hours outside hiking. Terrain can be a little tricky for young kids. There are different trail lengths and difficulty, but sometimes the trail markings can be confusing.
Lovely woods with fairly well kept trails. A nice little break from the noise and business of a city.
Excellent hiking destination. Well marked trails. Pretty waterfalls. Make sure to visit the flour mill at Morningstar Mill.
One of the best hiking spots in Niagara.
Often very busy some times of the year short hills is the largest green space near St.Catharines and offers ample beautiful ground to escape the city in
A great park in Niagara. There are a fair number of side trails. It is usually well maintained year round in all but the worst weather conditions.
Great hiking in the forest. You can walk for hours. Parking is at a premium though.
I was a little surprised this was an official provincial park since most provincial parks have a gate with park rangers and camping etc. But the hiking trails here are great and I'll likely be coming back to check it out in the summer when im in the Niagara area
Rustic, winding & rural in the thick of Bruce trails with optional side trails. Ideal for trail runner’s & cyclists of which there were several. Some inclines & narrow footpaths to navigate. Not suitable for young children and/or mobility aids. Signage somewhat vague & would advise to down load BT app (Bruce Trail) . No fee entrance however, limited parking with no road side options. Overall stunning area, expansive & in the heart of wine country. Enjoy the return slow, steady incline hill back to the parking lot!
Great place for hikers of all levels
Short Hills offers a variety of beautiful trails and waterfalls, parking lot is limited to a few cars so arrive early and enjoy the views, please wear appropriate footwear and apparel, be mindful of nature by not littering.
Very beautiful trail as soon as you go over the first mound you get a beautiful view
I just had a short walk here, but I like it. It’s very quiet and lots of branch roads to discover. Actually I tried to find the parking for Decew Falls, failed for that but driving to the parking of Short Hills Park.
An amazing piece of country right on the edge of St Catharines. Mountain bike, hike or just visit with nature. Take the kids, take the dogs but be prepared to be gone for hours
Beautiful hike thats not too challenging despite the hills. One of the best spots for a hike in niagara
Beautiful place, challenging trails, very well maintained
Awesome hiking trails. Lots of waterfalls, deer, turkeys.
Massive trail system with plenty of loops to choose from. A great place to bring a dog, go mountain biking, or just to go for a hike.
Nice trails to walk with lots of up and downhill grades make for a decent hiking workout. Sticking to the main trails makes for an easier hike. Some nice small falls as well.
Great place to hike! Free entrance and parking. (* Limited parking space!) The main loop (trail #2) is around 5-6km, which takes 1-2 hours.
Awesome hike, seems neverending at times ! Hahaha come ready for a good hike if you're coming here ! Great way to spend a few hours. Great scenery and nice trails.
Great place for a weekend walking. I do expect some of the rivers and small falls in the park still exist.
Awesome place to go for a walk with our dogs. We've been here many times.
A very scenic location to go on a sunny autumn day. Not much water flowing over Swayze Falls. As posted at the park entrance, portions of the trails can be extremely muddy and nearly impassable by foot after or during heavy rain making it very easy to slip and fall. Wish the trails were better maintained. Seem more suitable for ATVs and mountain bikes rather than walking. A good thing though is the trails are well marked and also visible on Google Maps.
Great for the family, walking the dogs. There's lots of different paths! Beautiful scenery, we see deer every time we go as well!
Nice walk around. Maybe the police should chill on re enactments though .
What a amazing Place fpr a Walk or hike
Awesome place for a weekend hike!
Nature lovers paradise! Not ideal with young children.
Great place to hike
Feeling mud and nature. You'd better exit the park before dark. No lights on the trail and no asphalt walking road. Remember wear high boots after a rain.
Great trail system with waterfalls and wildlife
Shallow pool, good for swimming if your cautious.
Great spot. Swayzes Falls! I've been hiking here since the early 1960's long before it was a park! Lots of wild black raspberries this time of year!
Always a good hike. Take the long trail or you're wasting your time.
Great place to hike
Great variety of trails for all to enjoy! I have done some running and hiking in short hills and it never disappoints me. With kids: I love the variety of trails here and I can always find ones that are easy enough for my kids to do during our hikes. I would recommend bringing kids here to enjoy but know there are some hills which may be hard for some littles. My kids like some hilly, uneven terrain, so I don't usually worry much about the hills. Some trails are wider then others, just depends which ones you take. There are some bigger trees they can climb safely and streams to play in. With dogs: trails are dog friendly and I always see lots of people bringing their dogs. My dog enjoys being off leash but because this is a busier trail, I never let him off the leash. My pup loves to walk here and enjoys playing in the streams. Running: I always enjoy doing a run at shorthills. It's very flat where I live, so I love that I can be in the trails and get a little elevation. In the winter, some of the trails can get pretty slippery with ice and wet rocks but it's definitely still runnable all the times I went. I'd recommend a trip out here for a run! It's beautiful whether you are running or hiking but it can get very busy and the parking lot gets full quick so I'd recommend getting out there early, if possible.
Twice my husband and I have been in Short Hills Park and twice we have been lost and became panicky as there was no signage stating which way to go out. We walked for miles and miles and if we had not met someone who was more familiar, we may still be there. Please, please update your signage. The red and yellow markers for the trails are so basic and very inadequate. The yellow route does not state how long it is on the map. We took two guests on the yellow route and could not find our way out of the park and had to short cut across a field when we saw a house and a lady gave me a ride to our car so that I could pick up our guests....we had walked for over two hours and we are all very senior citizens. Please do something about the signage. Help people to escape from this beautiful but rough terrain or you may find their skeletons someday.
I have enjoyed many hikes here. There are a variety of trails from easy to challenging. Some are good for biking and at least one is good for horseback riding.
Best hiking spot in the Niagara region!
Enjoyable hike through a quiet trail
No maintenance alot of mud long distance trek for the waterfall maps not.very accurate
Beautiful trails. Well maintained and just overall stunning. Lots of people. Walkers, runners, bikers and horseback riders. Many trail options. Would only comment dislike to the garbage found at the trail entrance. Not the best for first impressions.
The waterfall was dry! it was just a fall. Nice little hike but that's why we went
Trails are well maintained and the routes are quite scenic. Love going in the warmer seasons.
Great trails and access points
Very nice place to take a walk or walk your animal's.
Nice place for a hike
Really enjoyed walking our dog here, nice trails, would like to go back with our bikes. Well packed trails.
great park for a walk in the woods. I just walked trail #3 (red) to swayze falls and back, about 20 to 25 min easy trail. No waterfall in September, totally dry
Great trails of varying difficulty and length. Beautiful fall colours!
Just an overall great place to hike or just go for a walk. There are quite a few trails of varying lengths and difficulty for all to experience. There arw all kinds of wildlife, flowers, waterfalls and scenic view throught out the park. It can often be muddy and some of the trails have lots of roots and rocks along the path so proper footwear is required. Bringing water is highly recommended. Bug spray is a good idea too as the mosquitoes can get quite bothersome at certain times of the year. There are some washrooms at some of the entrances but I believe they are closed due to the COVID pandemic. Some trails are also available for mountain bikes and horseback riding. Dogs are allowed but they MUST be leashed. Weekends are always busier than during the week so I recommend getting there early as there isn't a lot of parking. We arrived at 7am on a Saturday and there was only one other car. There hours later when we returned to the car, cars were lined up and parked on both sides of the road leading to the parking area. Lastly, you should do a thorough check for ticks. We both found a couple ticks on us after the hike, but we had been going through some tall grasses and shrubs.
Several picturesque trails for avid hikers.
Beautiful Park, great waterfall and gorgeous trails. However, thoroughly, and I mean THOROUGHLY check yourselves and dogs for ticks. We pulled off 25 between two dogs and two humans. Not sure the great trails were the stress of coming down the 403 with a car full of ticks crawling all over us. Not sure how to avoid them, which is a shame as the park is really beautiful.
Great place for walks and bike rides
I decided to take a day and go for a hike. It was my first time here but the website, friends of Short Hills was very helpful. I decided to take a two hour walk on terrace Creek trail. At the beginning of my hike there was Two inch stone gravel that made walking difficult but it was only for about twenty tmeters and the rest of the way was perfect walking conditions. I came across a confusing sign for a side trail and ended up going the wrong way and walked for an extra hour because of it. The park is beautiful and most of the trees are young but there are a few areas that had very old trees. I had a great time.
Beautiful park for hiking. It has numerous waterfalls to explore from end to end. Fall and winter seasons are the best time to enjoy the park.
Due to the rain it was muddy, but still well worth it.
We love going for hikes here. the trails are well marked and well pathed.
Always a great time to be had here. Watch out for the horse poop!
Great place for a walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Bring boot spikes if you're there in the winter. The snow gets packed down to ice and there are spots that are REALLY slippery. Always lots of cars in the parking lot but it's a big park with lots of room for everyone. Great place for the whole family.
Great place to go hiking
Went mountain biking here. The trails are the best in the area but could have better trail markers.
Short Hills is a gorgeous place to hike! With trails of all difficulties it has a little something for everyone. I love stopping by each of the waterfalls. It's dog friendly and some trails even allow horses. My only complaint is all the horse poop on the trails! Gross!
Out of service provincial park with great trails.
Amazing trails for the whole family. Our 5 year old could handle trail ( almost) independently. Beautiful scenery, and just enough hills and climbing to make a great adventure.
Great spot for some MTB
Great place for a hike...
Very unkept, I was having to walk off trail multiple times. I guess if I had long boots it would've been nicer. I did not appreciate how a trail we took brought us right next to some houses. We saw huge treads in the dirt looked like some trees and stuff were being taken down it wasn't pretty to look at and we came for the hike to get away. Ticks are bad this year found 10 on my bf, 4 on me (I wore bug repellent) and two on my dog. The part I came for was the waterfall, found out the trail doesn't lead down to it but there was a smaller trail that led next to it so if you don't mind walking through some bush you can get there. As I was down there I smelt cigarettes saw a bit of glass and the smell of the water smelt like poop
Love it here! Just widh that people would clean up after their dogs.
A beautiful park with plenty of well-maintained trails to follow. Plenty of parking options, the "main" lot is pretty large too! Lots of forest, field, and waterfalls to see. Each visit we park somewhere new and it's like an entirely new park! Be wary of cyclists, (the park is great for them too!). No bathrooms so "go" before you go!
Great trails
So beautiful!
This is a nice park with good hiking trails. Best to visit during wet periods. it's said that the're about a dozen Waterfalls, all of them being seasonal
The fall is nice but i enjoyed the real more... specially the river side.
I love this park. It's free to enter, and is quite large. I've gone on a lot of hiking expeditions here, and still haven't seen it all. You can stick to the trails, which there is a lot of; or you can just venture off them and find some really cool stuff.
Fantastic hiking spot. Scenery changes on the different trails. Went during the week in April and it was very quite. Only ran into a few people near the water fall on Terrace Creek Trail and Black Walnut. Trails such as Hemlock, Scarlet and parts of Black Walnut were quite muddy. Guessing it was due to the time of year and the day before it was raining. Check yourself for ticks. I found one on my clothes. Luckily none in my dog. Will go back again.
Like always, its a wonderful place to walk/hike or mountain bike.
Great place for a nature walk or hike.
If you're looking for a good hike and don't mind a little mud, go here! The hills do get muddy because of the water build up, so best time would be late morning and just before sunset. It's got a waterfall, fresh air all around, little to no littering, and is great for a place to take nature photos.
Limited parking but a very clean trail to walk through.
Great trail we had an awesome time!
I just LOVE it when dog owners are courteous enough to let their dogs run free without a leash, while at the same time screaming for them to "GET BACK HERE!!!" when they chase me for half a kilometre while I'm biking through the park.
A great network of trails with something for everyone
This place is huge - plan accordingly! We went a day after it rained and got to see the falls in action. Be cautious after it rains and wear proper footwear, as the trails can get muddy.
Great place to go hiking. Watch out for the ticks. Wear a hat and long pants.
Small and beloved provincial park with trails to waterfalls. The province needs to acquire the surrounding properties to protect and enrich this ecosystem.
Fun and very muddy hike.
Loved hiking in Short Hills except for the bikers and horse back riders. They'll run you over before stopping and expect you to get out of their way. Would be nice if they were not allowed to use the Bruce Trail as many people are just hiking through and this is their only option. There are many trails in the park and they are prohibited from using some of them so how about making the Bruce Trail one of them before someone gets hurt!
Fantastic park with lots of various trails! Sometimes there's off leash dogs so be careful if you don't that.
Huge park, amazing trails, very enjoyable to hike through
Awesome place is so cool to take your kids however there are no stairs so hard to get small children down not impossible though I brought my kids I got lots of pictures we never walked to the falls ar the bottom cause was to hard with cranky kids so we decided to swim near the closest part to get is we walked to the easiest way down I recommend walking farther to the easy way down or it will be hard not worth falling down
Short Hills Provincial Park is a dense woods, dotted with meandering streams, waterfalls distributed therein. To see the waterfall hosting the Games, we have hands and feet, along the steep slope to the bottom, and then up along the edge of the creek. The coefficient of difficult for hiking here is intermediate, although only 13 kilometers, due to the many uphill downhill, the end is still feeling a little tired. But, hey cool still. (Photo was taken in May 7, 2016, Saturday)
It's good for a hike and dog walks but that's about it. There's. Not really anything exciting to see that isn't anywhere else in the area. Wildlife is scarce, I've seen and heard more birds around point Pelee, London, and other areas.
A nice and very quiet and peaceful place. There are few trails down hill from the parking area. There are only few parking spots. You can walk by the water stream. It is a wooded are with many kinds of trees. Nice place to get away from the city.
There were lots of fun different trails and it runs along the Twelve Mile Creek
Beautiful scenery, shady trails so nice on a hot or rainy day. Beautiful river to help the dogs cool off, takes 30 or so minutes to walk to the river. Incredible waterfall view!
Prepare yourself for adventure... great trail
Great park for hiking. Three parking lots providing three accesses, each with different attributes. Gets quite busy in the hiking season. Accessible trail from parking lot B around the southwest corner of the park provides the shortest route to the falls, but don't pass by the other entrances for good hiking too! Park is clean and offers interpretive signage.
It's beautiful here I still need to find the falls though lol
Great place for hiking trails, just be sure to check yourself for ticks afterwards.
Incredibly beautiful place for a walk or an adventure.
muddy
Great hiking and bike trails
Always beautiful
Great nature walk today! Garter Snake, finches, monarchs plus a fawn.
Short Hills is a nice little park good for leisure bike riding, the trails are wide and well marked.
Great little park. At least 3 trails that we could find. And two different falls (Swayze Falls and Decew Falls). Running shoes or hiking a must. Gets muddy after a rain.
Great place to hike and an even better place to mountain bike.... It isn't called short hills by mistake.... although a better name would be many hills. Lots of wildlife to see, be sure to bring water as it can be quite hot within the park itself and the trails are extensive.
Nice park. Very small parking lot but you can park on the street. Has some panels with map but in general trails are confusing and difficult to identify.
Great place to hike
Beautiful park with challenging trails.
Gorgeous amazing hikes niagara nature at its finest
Great hiking spot. Be prepared for lots of ascents and decents
A long trail with many options. Waterfalls also along the way
The loop is around the outside so not incredibly interesting. 7 km. 2100 m climb and descent overall. At least half is full sun. Would be mucky in wet weather. No water at all in streams or falls today.
Nice trail. Little difficult to get through at times. Be careful not to slip.
It's natural. It's beautiful. Take a walk. Smoke a doob stick if ya like. It's home away from home, so much peace.
Easy walking trails through beautiful forested area. Also has designated wheel chair paths.
Nice trails! Lots of deer.
Beautiful walking trails, very easy to hike. Perfect for a post dinner walk with the family.
Love this place. It has hours of trails, a few gorgeous streams and waterfalls. Fond memories were made!
Loved snowshoeing in the park. Beautiful place with lots of wildlife.
Lots of trails for a good day of hiking
Great trails
Great place to hike and enjoy nature. Trails are available for all physical abilities.
Very big park with numerous places to park in order to access different areas. Will certainly be back to further explore the other trails. Beautiful waterfall and river which sweep through the park with a viewing platform and trail access to get up close to said waterfall.
Awesome park to explore just outside St. Catharines. You can easily make your way to Decew Falls from the parking lot. Lots of places to explore in this park!
Well maintained and we'll marked trails, perfect for long walks
great trails for mountain biking
Absolutely amazing! Different trails to enjoy, some more difficult than others for all kinds of hikers.
Nice trails for family hikes
Really great! Kids loved it
Great trails for family and dogs! Easy and hard trails, simple to navigate with markers and maps along the way.
Great park just outside of St. Catharines, a little bit rough at this time, quite a few overgrown sections and the bridge is down on the Black Walnut trail. Still a very good hike with a waterfall in the middle.
Great hiking
Photo was taken at White Meadows farms just around the corner
Always a great place to stretch your legs
Great trail options, including a waterfall area.
Great spot for hiking in the summer and fall, but can get extremely soggy in the spring.
From beginner to more experienced hikers all will find some great trails here. This is a multi-use park so expect walkers, bikers and horse riders during your visit. Some great sites to see but as mentioned you should have some good directional or basic map reading skills so as not to get lost in certain parts of the park. Decent walking shoes are a must and bring some water and snacks to enjoy the day - just don't litter!! Great for cross country ski enthusiasts as you will get a great workout here.
Great 4 season hiking, with trails for all skill levels.
Great nature area with a variety of trails suited for bikes or by foot.
Love Short Hills! Tons of great trails for running or mountain biking!!
Always a great experience.
Beautiful park showcasing Niagara Naturally
One of the highlights walking the Niagara section of the Bruce trail
Amazing little gem in the Niagara Region. Gorgeous views while hiking, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. Many little water falls for photo opportunities.
Enjoyed a beautiful walk today. The trails are quite muddy in spots which is understandable due to the rain we've had in the area. Watch your footing in areas where there areas leaves underfoot as they are wet and slippery. It's a good idea to have a walking stick. ????
Great trails, beautiful spot
Great for hiking, walking, and just enjoying nature or being outside. Wear some workout gear or something along those lines if you plan on walking a long distance. We weren't planning on the visit today so we had jeans and tshirts on. A hiker said the Falls were dried up when we asked where they were. We decided to just check it out to see if we could find it since we were already there. There was a trickle. Lots of berries, some snakes, deer, butterflies, and horse tracks along the trail.
Beautiful park! We had a great hike.
It is such a great place for trail and hike. We visited bruce trail in search of a waterfall, but to our disappointment, when we arrived at the location, we found it dry. But still we enjoyed the hike. Some instagram worthy locations to click awesome pics. Trail is well marked with the white and yellow labels on trees, so you don't forget your way out. Completing trail made us feel happy and satisfied and tired obviously.
Great place to bike or hike. Lovely in the fall time
Amazing day trip spot!
Great place to hike in Niagara.
Great hike.
Great park, amazing walking trial as well!
My favorite place to hike!
Great place to hike but the trails can be a little confusing as they don't always update the trail signs at all entrances. I once spent almost an hour looking for a connecting trail only to reach another exit which indicated it was closed down. The trails are nice though and many of them are hilly enough to be challenging. There are a lot of nice spots along the water which I really enjoy.
Lots of trails to ride your bike, hike or walk your dogs!! Everyone passing by seemed friendly. There is a gravel parking lot
Gorgeous place.. fabulous bird watching. Amazing afternoon enjoying local wildlife.
Great space. Trail was beautiful.
The trails were extremely muddy, and so difficult to hike. I recommend not to visit in winter time which is not too cold. Hiking course itself was fantastic, and will visit in spring or summer time again.
Short Hills has been my favorite hiking spot since I was a child. There are so many entrances in so many different trails you can get a lot of hiking mileage out of this location. If you're visiting the area this is definitely one of the best hiking locations you need to see especially in the spring when there's a lot of water running over swayze's falls. It's a great place to take the kids hiking as well. It's an intermediate hiking area for sure but with parental supervision we we're able to have a very enjoyable hiking trip with a three, six, and nine year old. Hiking down into the Gorge where the waterfall is and hiking up to the base of the falls is a great experience and it never gets old there's always something new to see. It's just a gorgeous location and it never gets old.
Great place to hike. lots of trails.
Not worth the hike.
Absolutely my favorite spot to go for a hike. There's a lot of great trails to choose from and plenty of lovely nature to look at. My favorite trail is the Swayze falls trail which is a well groomed moderate 6km hike. Lots of great spots to stand or sit and rest and take in the beauty of this gorgeous gem of the Niagara region.
Very nice place to hike. Lots of choices of trails.
Great trails for running and beautiful scenery. Lots of wildlife
An absolutely fantastic place to hike, though it suffers from too little parking especially during these covid times. It will also be very muddy if there has been rain. Perfect place for beginner hikers, none of the trails are very hard or very long, but just long enough that you get a bit of a walk in and are content when you get back to your car. I would recommend parking somewhere other than the main entrance if you're looking to stay social distanced, it's not hard to keep away from people on the trails but I found that groups were milling about near the entrance which can make it hard to stay distanced.
Wonderful place to hike with a number of trails and a few waterfalls.
Love this park, but there are a lot of large hazardous trees near the edge of the trails!
Really enjoyed the hike, easy cliffs to free climb, but ropes are also an option.
I should give it 5 stars for hiking. Really gorgeous. But I went in on a recumbent so for cyclists it's 1 star. Don't try this place on a bicycle unless you're a hard core, professional mountain biker.
Bridge is out on mountain bike loop please fix
Beautiful park with nicely kept trails. The falls and rivers are also beautiful to look at with their rocky beds.
Wear hiking shoes and get ready for great views!
Cool hiking trail. Complete natural. Only walking and hiking.. hard path. You need to take care of yourself.
Great trails for all levels!
Beautiful trail, but some areas are muddy in Spring.
Such beautiful trails! With tons of options for a short treck or a long hike!
Beautiful park. Great trails. Get out there!
Great place to hike and very pretty in the fall
Great place to visit. All ages can hike the trails. When there is enough rain/snow melt, the falls are very picturesque. Even dry, the location is good for raking some snaps. Definitely recommend a visit!
Beautiful place to go for a hike
Nice place to go for a hike, but it can get really mucky to the point where it's unwalkable at certain times of year
Nice hike but additional signage + grooming throughout the trail would be helpful. Family got lots doing the extended trail because there was not enough signage signifying where to go! Waterfall was dry when we went unfortunately.
It's just good for hiking.
This used to be Niagara's hidden gem with barely any visitors. Over the last year attendance has increased greatly. Due to its size, you may still not see many other hikers. If you go, please take all your trash home with you! There is no place to leave it here. For those of you who pick up your dog's poop off the trail in those brightly coloured bags, thank you! To those that toss that bag into the bush, boo! It will be visible for years and detracts from the natural beauty. Take that home with you too! Picked up a whole bag of poop and other trash on my hike yesterday.
Great trail.
Great place for hiking or just a Sunday stroll. Plenty of trails and amazing landscape.
Love it here all year round! Currently sitting next to the river in mid March listening to the water while having a snack!
Great place for a hike or bike ride
Awesome trails!
Great trails. Walk all day.
Beautiful park! Really amazing waterfall on a rainy day. Rolling hills, just awesome for trail running. Our dogs tried to team up with a coyote though out there which was a little spooky. But I think the coyote was a bit more scared of us. And it probably found our clearly domesticated dogs annoying, and too big to attack.
Early day ride at shorthills was lovely except for the dangerous cyclist and his minion that endangered us by refusing to slow down when approaching us... and twice! Also yelling and screaming foul language as he cycled by. Not only was he ignorant he was representing cyclists at their finest. Shared trails and multi use are just that. Apparently he thought he owned them and clearly has no idea what trail etiquette or his responsibilities as a public trail user are. He’s lucky he didn’t get booted by one of the horses. Keep that up one day he will or worse off be held accountable for purposely endangering another person.
I thought I heard something and we believe it was coyotes or squatch.
Peaceful and quiet, away of the city. Great place to ease you mind
Great hiking trails with large loops. Can often walk in solitude.
Great place for hiking and mountain biking.
Best place around to run looped trails!!
My favorite place to take a hike.
It has nice trails and around trails you could find raspberries. It will be better with water I think. Lot of moths. Some trails might be better if maintained well.
Had a great time visiting the trails, lots of people were out hiking. It was unfortunate due to covid the decews falls weren't accessible to us. The bylaw officer parked in front of the entrance gave us directions to short hills which we were grateful for. Beautiful weather made for a beautiful hike.
Very relaxing and very beautiful scenery and wildlife
Great place for a nature walk.
I've been hiking here my whole life. I never get bored hiking these trails. Nice place to get away from the normal life.
A great place to spend a few hours on a leisurely hike. Also great for walking a dog or bringing a blanket for a picnic near the creeks edge. It’s easy to forget this place exists in the region, but it’s a beautiful spot for tourists and locals alike.
it was really beautiful trail and it was sooo green , we visited in August
Awesome place to take a hike or walk dog
Lots of nature to see here if you hike early, be prepared for that last hill though- Its a doozy!
Amazing trails some spots not so much child friendly had to carry my 3 year old but thats ok
Best hiking and bike trails in Niagara
One of the best hiking locations in Niagara region
It's a short easy walk to awesome waterfall.
Looks beautiful in rainy days
One of my favorite parks. Beautiful walks, great views.
Becoming one of my favourite parks. You can see two waterfalls in one day(the two waterfalls inside the park is seasonal). Also, it leads to others hiking ground that connects to others' waterfalls.
Love to walk dogs here and walk my children too
I googled stroller friendly trails and this place came up. If you want to walk less than 100 yards from the parking lot then sure but if you want a real walk, do not come here. It's literally the opposite of stroller friendly. You've been warned.
Great place for a hike. Has some muddy spots so don't wear nice shoes expecting to keep them clean. Lots of up and down hills to get the blood flowing. Not suitable for stroller or young kids
It was a nice hike for the most part. Would be nicer if there were some picnic benches or regular benches along the trail.
Great trails leaves just starting to change
A great park with some great trails for every type of hiker, from beginner to more advanced.
Needed a pair of boots to cross the stream. Was hoping to get to other side to get under main falls. Next time.
Sweet space to get away...still close to home.
Go here all the time for a hike, great scenery and sounds of nature
This is a lovely park on haudosaunee territory. Lovely waterfall and trails. Includes wheelchair accessible trails
Had the best morning hike with the love of my life. End of summer hikes here are a little moist, but very serene.
Excellent 5km hike through the park yesterday!!
Our go to. Love this place!! Very big and very tidy!!!
Beautiful, scenic, serene, a great place to hike with the whole family, including your fury child!
Fantastic trails any season!
Great Hike Can be muddy if it rains. Make sure your wearing boots!
Great place for a hike with family!
Nice place for a good 12km ride. The course was intermediate to advanced with a good deal of hard climbing... Would recommend to anyone that wants a different riding either. Trails can be a bit muddy and rooty..
Perfect local provincial park for hitting the trails hiking or biking.
Wear rubber boots or hiking shoes in April , it's wet on the trails in some places. You'll see deer and horse hoove tracks . It's lovely!
Good hiking, scenic, not always a lot of water flow
Great place for hiking.
Nice park, free parking. A lot of different trails which you can go see nearby waterfalls. Map they have needs to be updated, does not really provide any information.
Perfect trails for short or long walks. Very accessible and well maintained.
Very muddy trail walk, but definitely worth it when you reach the Terrance Falls.
Great park, felt like a mostly secluded on our hike despite all the cars in the parking lot. Wide, well travelled paths. Mostly flat, but some gravel at the start of the trail would be difficult for some.
Love hiking in this beautiful space long trails, Short ones, or blend some together relatively easy hiking nicely kept. Lots of streams, creeks and some very pretty waterfalls Parking spaces at some entrances seemed big enough until Covid hit. A lot more people in the trails There is a dog kept in leash rule but almost every time we go, there is someone with their dog running freely
Good park on the outskirts of the city, too bad they allow natives to hunt in it.
It's a long trek but a great nature walk on a sunny day. You'll find waterfalls, fossils, snake and birds throughout the park.
Nice park, little bit muddy but good for mountain biking, great wild life, better work can be done on trails indications and maintenance ... well located
A gorgeous place to escape the city. Beautiful trails to run!
Always a nice place for a hike!
I'm disappointed at the amount of dog feces left behind. I don't understand why some people pick up the feces then discard the bag at the side of the trail. I actually saw feces bags hanging from tree limbs.
Fantastic! Wonderful way to spend New Year's Day with the family!
Beautiful trails. Very easy to get lost so make sure you stay aware of your bearings. Some paths lead to backyards which has led me to so awkward situations.
Awesome views. 2 waterfalls and a bit of history to go with it. The hike is not for the light hearted.
Great outdoor trail hiking
Great little gem on the outskirts of the city without travelling too far. Great hike and vistas.
Great trails, access to Bruce trail.
Really nice hiking trails here, easy to moderate. I'd definitely recommend. Is you want to see the falls, spring and summer is the best time. Is you go in September, the falls will most likely be dried up!
Great day park. Good hiking trails
Excellent to walk. Bike nice waterfall clean trails
Friends and I are here building a fire. It's very quiet and serene. Just wish people would stop littering.
This park is a splendid way of spending an hour or an afternoon, with so many hiking trails you can always find a new way and new experience regardless of how many times you go.
Great hiking facility. People plz dont leave your garbage. There is no pick up. Also note that bathroom facilities are closed like other parks at this time.
Ok...so if you are healthy, have no issues with walking this is the park for you. If you live with an autoimmune that limits your walking ability then i dont recommend this park. Very hillly. Sandals are NOT recommended for footwear. The path has big stones you walk on so it makes for a very uncomfortable walk. The hill upon entrance may be easy going down, but not when coming back up. Walking to the falls has a path, but also hilly. Bumpy. If you are up for the challenge, bring plenty of water, wear a sun hat on hot sunny days, sunscreen too and please rest when you can. I suffer from two autoimmune diseases. It wasn't easy for me. I don't think I will be going back. It is beautiful...but not for the weak.
Beautiful place for hiking!!
Wonderful walking park for all levels of hikers, and strollers, and walkers......
It was a perfect day weather wise. The only negative was that I had a random branch fall and hit me in the head. It was laughed off and we continued our hike. We saw squirrels, chipmunks, and one tiny snake. The trails were well marked. Very nice scenery.
Been lost for few times finding the swayze falls i followed the swayze trail ended up on the road confusing signage
Very nice place to walk and enjoy nature!
Awesome place., natural beauty and a joyful hike. Loved it. I took this tour with Explore in Budget #exploreinbudget (found in Instagram), a local tour guide in Niagara. 2.5 hours tour, it was worth it. So peaceful, helped me rejuvenate.
A great provincial park to visit just near by DeCew falls. Full of trails and natural area. Mostly flat surface, so good place for children too.
Good place to visit
Great hike... lots of ticks
Possibly the best hiking trails in Niagara. Nice variety of terrains, hidden secrets, and a good physical challenge.
Great place to take a hike and feel that you are in the middle of nature.
Great trails! Lots of photo opportunities for birds.
Love talking my dog here hiking. Beautiful trail
Amazing trip it really is a beautiful place to come and enjoy with your family or by yourself to reflect. It is a short drive 30 km away from NOTL..the drive thru this whole region is worth seeing..this place especially..
Great place for a hike, walk or horse ride. There are a few waterfalls. Parking lots can be busy on the weekends.
It is great place in Niagara region. It is a wonderland in Winters. Have numerous waterfalls.
Very peaceful. Can spend as much time as you want to out here short or long trails. Beautiful.
Short Hills is a fantastic, beautiful park that has diverse terrain, flora, and fauna. The trails are well maintained and have lots of scenic locations, like Swayze Falls. The signage marking the locations can be a little confusing, but it was a good experience exploring all the scenery. Considering the size and location, Short Hills can be a much more personal hiking spot compared to the much busier Niagara Gorge.
Had a great time exploring and building in Short Hills. Forgot how nice early winter hikes are once all the leaves have fallen. We took the fonthill entrance that Swayze falls are close to and the main path is wheelchair accessible which is nice for those with limited mobility. We hopped off onto a hiking trail and had a blast building a fort and finding another. Kids get so creative when let free in the wild lol.
Great place to walk and look at animals just wish dog owners would learn to pick up there dog poo just cause horse poo is there does not mean your dogs poo is ok there is a difference. ????
Beautiful park to go hiking! Its huge and has lots of trails. Also it has the most trilliums I've ever seen!!
Love this spot. Tons of places to go for a light walk, run, hike and mountain bike! Beautiful scenery and tons of different paths and entrances. Gorgeous park to spend the day, highly recommend checking it out!!
Awesome natural place.
Get your walk on, if your on the fence about hiking here just be decisive and come to shorthills
It is a great place to hike
Beautiful hiking area with waterfalls and plenty of trails to choose from!
Very expansive piece of land not as busy as other nature preservations
Great walking paths, the waterfall at the bottum is small but unique. What ever you do, dont stay past 10 or the rangers will try to give you a ticket.
Beautiful trails, nature and wildlife.
even though i got a bit of a rash from a plant (we took a side trail) it was worth it and i can’t wait to go back
1st time and not the last, some parts are excellent for beginners and other parts perfect for a nice work out. Not to difficult if you're ok with narrow single trails mostly because of the vegetation. Reestrooms available for the ladies when at the "big clock" park.
This dude has a waterfall on his property, that's proper.
If your in to mountain biking or hiking you need to go explore. Lots of trails and places to explore, short hills also connects to trail systems in Decew Falls, Brock university, and the 12 Mile Creek.
Gorgeous place, regardless of entrance used or path followed.
Great hiking trails and beautiful field and forest landscapes. No bugs!!!
Wonderful hiking experience. Lots of loop trails so u dont need to double back.
Beautiful park with bunch of waterfalls and hiking trails
this small provincial park is so beautiful and the creek has amazing fishing in it
A beautiful reserve that offers many different trails. Lots of kilometers to be covered and access for horses as well.
Busy but great place for a walk in the woods
Great place to walk, hike ,bike
Beautiful space, good trails
Great choice of trails as well as difficulties. Be aware of horse droppings. Should be monitored and disposed of as are dogs.
Our fave places to be! Remember to keep your dogs on leash ????
Beautiful place, but the trails need to be better marked and mapped
Great trails. Peaceful place.
Tried to fish here, forest is overgrown and the creek isn't much more than a muddy trickle.
Amazing place to go for a hike. Unfortunately, the day I planned to go there, the park was closed for a native deer hunt. I do not agree with permitting hunting within provincial parks.
Great hiking trails. Mutiple entrances. See mini waterfall on Swayze trail. Not overly congested, well maintained trails.
Trail walk interesting falls not tht outstanding
Great place to go for a hike or stroll with something for everyone including accessible trails. We love coming here as a family or to take the dog for a walk. Make it as long or as short as you like with endless possibilities. Highly recommended.
Great place to run, hike, or bike.
Great place for hiking ☺️ used all trail app but some trails were not used frequently??and got lost a bit ???? but excellent trails. I would go there for many more times.... To see deers!
Great variety of hikes here all 4 seasons
Always peaceful, clean and well kept. Love short hills and all it has to offer.
When I visited this place back in October, it was my first time ever being in Ontario, and I was already mystified by the change of scenery (Hurtin Albertan here). We didnt stay long as we had previous obligations but the little walk we took was just beautiful! In the distance we walked, I noticed it was a fairly easy walk, no huge valleys or hills, just a nice winding trail. Would have loved to stay longer and walk further. I can imagine it only gets more beautiful the further in you go.
Great hiking trails
Love going for a hike through the trails with the water fall
Great place for a hike
Fantastic
Great hiking spot. Though it seems the trails are used a lot by mountain bikers. Really enjoyed the hike there. We did part of trail #2 and #7. Both were good though #7 was more challenging because it was hilly. Just a note. It looks like the Bruce trail continues on the other side of Decew from morningstar mill but it is a private road now.
Huge park, hard not to get lost but well worth the 10km hike lolol
The trails are lovely lots of trees some fields you can hear the birds. Trails are easily marked. The Falls are mostly Dry but still worth the hike
One of the best spots for hiking
Great hiking park.
Nice park.......third accident I have attended. Too many deer, tonight another was killed because of the no hunting policy's ????
Great hiking spot. Lots of well-maintaned trails.
Awesome hiking trails!
Hidden Gem Should visit Make sure to take your life jacket with you lot of water. Had so much fun would love to visit again ???? Last month there was titianic there if you have to go book 2-3 years before
Beautiful hike with some up and downhill but the falls are dey right now. ????
Love the trails here, peaceful place to walk and absolutely love that there is an accessible trail through this park. Thank you to the team that maintains these trails!
Nice hiking trails!
Great park, nice trails!
Loved it! Took four kids ages 7-15 years old and everyone was able to do the whole thing! We even saw a couple of snakes along the way!!
Nice place for hiking, don't forget to bring enough to drink with you and good shoes
Lovely hiking routes, lots of wildlife. We saw deer, squirrels, chipmunks.
We love hiking here
Great area, nice trail. A little bit more conservative, but if people aren't a worry for you, hella good site all around, and some beautiful old trees
Swayze falls trail took us about 2+ hours. Absolutely beautiful
I keep coming to this park for beautiful forest and well maintained trails, which I can enjoy not disturbed by motorized "sports".
Trails are destroyed by horses
Short hills is one of our favourite places to spend a few hours exploring around! It can get busy on weekends but that's to be expected. All in all a very beautiful place.
Really nice trails. Parking lot we used was busy !
Awesome park with great trails
Very nice place for hiking, really loved it, make sure you bring enough water with you
Very good hike. We did the terrace creek falls trails it'd about 1.5hrs long with easy to medium level with some elevations. Over all a good afternoon walk . Some steeps sides along the stream/review below. We came across a couple bikers. The terrace formation of the rocks and the falls were very interesting.
Trail was a lot of fun dry and hard easy walking
Pack light if you are going on this trail with family and watch your step as you make your way through them. Better directional signage everywhere would be great. A complete washroom upgrade would be good at Parking Lot C but perhaps it's just part of the overall experience. That slightly broken wooden staircase will add a couple more heart beats to your exercise regime if you have a lot to carry up. We chanced upon a couple of interesting birds in the area.
A perfect place to hike you can bring your children your dog your family heck you can even bring your wife if you want
Best place to get a good hike in. Steep hills dont bring small dogs because the entrance hill is massive and is not for the weak. coming back up is too hard for small paws
I enjoyed all of the different paths and the waterfall
Great for hiking with ur friends or spouse but not with kids, and no clear signs as to how to get to the falls
Beautiful park with waterfall best the south west entrance. Can get quite muddy on the trail on rainy days, the waterfall trail route bridge had a river blocking it on the south side today due to it raining for the last well or so.
Tons of well groomed trails. Always bring my dogs here for hikes and it never gets old.
Great park...I absolutely love the trails here. It's a must see. Dog owners just be aware that this park is crawling with ticks. On two different occasions my dog has come back home with them. It might be best to leave the doggies home or enjoy a different park.
Enjoyed the nature! Maps and directions could be a little clearer :)
Swayze falls is my favourite trail!! But have so many other to explore as well!! Amazing every time i go for hike!!
Great place to run or walk. Some places with thick brush and plenty of hills. But my wife and I enjoyed the hike.
One of my favorite places to hike
Great place for a long hike. The waterfall was nice.
Beautiful area great hiking
Great set of trails. You get to explore forests, fields, waterfalls, hills. It wasn't to busy during the weekday when we went which was great. Just be careful of brown ticks! We found a few on us
Too long of a hike to find the waterfalls. Not enough information online about it or at the park.
Maps aren't great and one of us got 5 ticks (non-lyme disease kind) after wondering around for 2-3 hours. Also think access to the falls is blocked off at the moment.
Always a great place for hiking and personal enjoyment with nature
Very peaceful non-operating provincial park (i.e. no entry fees).. has a number of hiking trails with various difficulty levels. Other available activities include fishing, (mountain) biking and horseback riding..

Lots of fantastic trails to walk. The colours are spectacular.
Great all purpose trails, absolutely beautiful
Easy to moderate trails. Pleasant on a 12 to 15 degree kind of day. Need to return to see all 3 waterfalls.
Great trails day use only
Hike the Bruce Trail instead. The natural heritage of this place is amazing, but I was so disappointed in the design and layout of the trails. Rather than having them narrate the different micro environments and the geomorphological history of the space, the trails just kind of muddle around and give you the least interesting experience of the place. Also, google maps points you to the Scouts Canada entrance of the place; DO NOT enter here.
Great working out. Walking and biking trails and nature.
Very good for fly fishing
Great place to escape and let the body revitalize itself in nature
Great place for a nature walk.
Fun place for a walk. Some places a little steep but definitely manageable.
Excellent park. Trails are good. It could use update signage, trail markings and better explanation of trail routes.
Great place to hike but the falls are dry
Amazing place to spend the day. Beautiful scenery. Good parking and bathroom available.
Beautiful spot for a hike!
Trails east to follow, very relaxing friendly walkers around
Gorgeous, quiet place to spend the day!
Awesome place ! Great time if you have dogs and let them run. Been going here for years and the trails are always clean. Great spot !
Great place to hike.
Took the Bruce trail with a 4 year old. Headed west first, I would do this again because I feel the harder hike is done first. Took us about 3 hours, stopping to throw rocks in the water and looking at birds. Swayze falls is the halfway mark. Not stroller friendly.
We went with our 2 dogs. The park had great trails all of loved it. However when we got in the car I spotted a tick on one dog’s head, turns out that tick was one of 34! I hope at least I could have missed some????. It is not worth it though I don’t think I’m going there ever again.
Heartbreaking and disgusting. Destruction everywhere. Dead deer remains some with arrows still embedded in the skeleton. The peace is gone. Bridges broken, trails damaged by ATVS.
Great trails here and good for dogs. The hills make for a great and challenging hike
Excellent place to trail run. Lots of options.
Great park. Amazing trails. Highly recommend.
Ended up on a very muddy (/poopy) multi use trail hiking with our dogs. Also we all left covered in ticks. We were pulling them out of ourselves and the dogs for several days (not fun).
Great place to mountain bike
Great hike!
Very nice trails for day trips.
A decent amount of trails. Very easy to walk through. Not many stunning views however a nice escape from city life nonetheless.
Great for hiking. Very scenic. Not very difficult to hike. Great for families.
Well groomed trails
Nice trails, well kept. Not littered with trash
Love walking in nature through tons of trails
Great place to take dogs for a walk
Been going to Short Hills since I was a little girl.. I will be taking my kids here too. Will always love this place.
We took the Swayze Falls trail which was amazing! Beautiful scenery including the frozen falls. Would love to do this one in the fall again.
Huge long trails allow for more wildlife habitat, I saw a few deer!
Nice for hikes. Not bike friendly.
Best hiking in Niagara, so many trails to choose from!!
Would love to see waterfalls running no water
Awesome trails. One for wheel chairs
Great trails for the whole family
Great place if you have 1-3 hours to hike around. Many people come here to walk dogs and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen. If you are lucky you might see deer, coyotes and other mammals besides the plentiful array of birds. Good place to bring a camera.
Went on an unexpectedly long hike. Trails were not marked in a user friendly way for someone who is inexperienced with hiking. The map was difficult to decipher. I'll likely go back when I am in better shape but it was definitely not a good starting point for someone in my situation.
Good hiking mountain biking and fishing
This park is amazing for a hike for family. We spent 4 hours here and absolutely loved it. Even young kids can have fun hiking here. The only negative side is that some of the trails are not included in the public maps that are posted in the park and could be lost. We have walked for 15 minutes in a trails that I found out is not in the map and is even not on google map. I will try to add the missing part myself. Yes, some trails are closed and signs are posted on them but not this one that we took. There are many trails, if you want one that yiu want people always around use trail #2 park in parking lot A on Pelham and Gilligan Rd. If you want one that is very quite for some lone time, use the others like #6, parking lot C is close to it.
Very scenic with winding trails and large pond. Multiple hiking trails varying in length from 15min - 1hr. Also has small area to skate (at own risk). Hard to get to parking area during winter, path is often 1 vehicle wide and the location is fairly popular.
It is a great park if you wanna hiking with family on weekend. The parking is free, but the parking lot is not so much. I have been there for several times. It is safe and quiet park. But sort of blemish is the poor cell phone signal. So you'd better have a plan and keep the route in your Mind.
Great trails! Very large space with a lot of different side paths to be explored. Definitely recommend it for a nice stroll through the woods!
My family loves going for a walk in the woods on the snow in winter. We're having fun to see the snow blanketed the ground, on trees and the frozen waterfalls. It's Beautiful!!!!
Good hike. Pull a bunch of ticks off the dog :(
Great trail system
Hiking at 73 years old with my granddaughter and great grandchildren and my adopted granddaughter and great grand kids ????
Beatiful Park full of wildlife. Went on a couple of trails. Saw a Great Blue Heron, couple of deer, and many other birds like golden finches, vultures, etc. on Swayze Falls Trail. Unfortunately, the waterfall was dry as well as most of the stream. Will deffinetely be back, in the fall or the spring when everything is not so dry.
lots of trails from easy to medium.
A nice place for a walk in nature
Nice shared trails for horses, hikers and cyclists. Ground is uneven off of main trail and the hills can get your heart pumping. Beautiful outlooks and forest. Can get heavy traffic in beautiful weather.
Beutiful and quiet trail, can be muddy and slippery when rains.
Great trail. Leave lots of time to walk it, but amazing work out and was very interesting
beautiful place to spend a day hiking
Beautiful nature park with lots of different trail options. It is getting a lot busier lately. Parking can be an issue during peak times.
The trails are well maintained. Challenges to meet all hiking levels!! Love this park!
Great trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Great hiking trail with small waterfall.
The Niagara region has so much to offer! My wife and I did our maternity photos here and it was nothing less than beautiful. 100% worth the time spent.
Awesome. If you wanna get hiking kind of experience then this is the place....must visit place.
Great trails. Beautiful
Great trails to walk
nice park, lots of wildlife and excellent trails
Lots of trails, moderately difficult hills & muddy terrain with so much fall rain, beautiful Swayze falls, had to use MapsMe app to navigate as trails are not very well marked
