We have the feddbacks of real people who consumed the products and services of Samesun Vancouver (Park) in Vancouver (Canada).
Currently this business gets a score of 4.2 stars over 5 and that rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is quite good, and it is based on a very high number of reviews, so we can think that the score is quite reliable. If people have bothered to rate when they are satisfied, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to set reviews when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
Absolutely dire. Full of kids that have clearly not spent more than a week away from their parents and do not understand the purpose of a toilet bowl. Definitely one for those that are still finding themselves (find the toilet bowl first!) and not recommended for anyone that requires a decent night sleep. This is a pretty extreme review but I want to give those that value sanitation, sleep and decent company a chance to save themselves!
Everyday at 11 am they have theyre cleaning team open the door to your room whether you want them to or not and disrupt your peace/sleep while pretending to clean but really they are just checking to make sure you are following the rules. They dont actually clean anything. Ridiculous. The whole place smells damp/like urine.
It smells bad and the showers should be cleaned more regularly. Beds felt like coffins but the built in fans and outlets were super appreciated. They have daily activities you can sign up for which is nice if you are new to the area and are looking for something to do. Staff was really nice and location was perfect. Honestly, if it didn't have such a strong grimy smell and funky showers, it'd be perfect.
Nice backpacker hostel with rich breakfast. Good location very nice and cool staff.
Really great hostel with a fantastic atmosphere, the bathrooms are a bit iffy but the location makes up for it!
Wow this was one of the coolest Hostel experiences I've ever had! Rooms were mediocre, but this place had so much to offer. I made so many friends in the free walking tour, the super fun Bingo, and the Canucks hockey game! The staff were some of the friendliest I've ever encountered and they were super patient! The breakfast was a bit sad but hey you get what you pay for! I forgot what other free activity I did there but I had so much fun with tourists from all over the world! Highly recommend!
This hostel is one of the best 'big city' hostels I have stayed at. The staff are amazing! The facilities are clean and well kept. The main point is the daily tours, such a good way to meet people from all around the world, along with the awesome tour guides Ben and Jen! Couldn't be happier with my stay.
Great hostel, bar great fun, lovely bathrooms, decent kitchen facilities. Best in Vancouver
Didn't stay here during my travels but visited a friend who works there multiple times during our trip. Rooms seemed clean and had all the basics a hostel needs; private bunks, lockers, fully equipped kitchen and a social area with a bar. We spent a number of nights drinking at the Beaver bar here, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The bar staff are extremely friendly and Jamie suggested beers I may like based on my preferences. Food is also very tasty and I personally enjoyed the pizzas. Each night entertainment is provided, including Mario Kart, pub quizzes and djs. Toilets are also available and very clean.
The hallway had the smell of piss hanging about it, but was an overall okay place.
Pros; Great location. Respectful environment. Good facilities Cons; Kebab shop across road. Rooms can get narrow when others are in them. Wifi in room. Stayed in the 6 bed dorm. Sleeping bunks were like Japanese pods almost; walled off with a curtain as a door. Very private when sleeping. There was 2 PC fans at head and foot of each bunk... often on each bed atleast 1 of these had no ventilation point. There is also a rotary fan in bunk - on the weekends you'll need the noise all 3 fans due to the kebab shop across road playing music into the street until 4am (but this is an external complaint). There is wifi in accommodation, this is best accessed in common room or bottom or stairwell for good speeds. However, I'm unsure if it's due to heavy doors in rooms but the in room wifi speed is an average of 0.1mbs - so expect a lot of connection errors if you want to access internet. There is 3 sleeping floors with 6 individual toilet cubicles on each. Along with 2 unisex shower rooms (each shower room has 3 shower cubicles and 2 community sinks)... all of the cubicles are very private if you are worried about the unisex aspect. On the first floor one of the 2 shower rooms is Female Only. There is also a laundry room on this floor. Washer and dryer are $2.50 each per use and there was also the availability of an iron and ironing board. The community room has a good offering of coaches and tables. There is also a kitchen which given busy nature of hostel is quite free and accessible. Downstairs is a bar with $4 happy hour drinks at 4pm. I wasn't a fan of hostels as I had quite bad experiences in the past with quite a number but this one surprised me. If you're expecting a hotel experience; obviously you're expecting too much but what's on offer here and it's location in Vancouver make it a great base camp.
Stayed here for a 3 night! The Positives: * Great customer service * The clean service is Excellent * Comfortable Beds * Fan for each and every guest * Showers/bathrooms are tidy and clean * Each guest gets his own LARGE locker **Cheap rates 3 nights costed me $163 and change with equals out to $54 a night :) The Negatives: * Breakfast is limited (would recommend a buffet style) * Wifi is a little bit slow, but you also gotta remember theres around 500 or so people living here at once * Long Stairs/no elevator * Rooms are a bit humid but you should except that living with multiple of people Overall it’s a great place to stay at! My final score is 3.8 ~ Review God Out :)
Great place, nice staff, clean rooms, toilets and showers. Fine free breakfast and a great bar with an excellent local beer sellection.
Helpful and friendly staff. You get what you pay for in rooms.
This place is very welcoming and you get to meet interesting individuals.
Great hostel. They need some more bathrooms maybe and freshen up the place (it's very clean though). Overall a good experience!
Besides upgrading the mattresses and lowering the price, it's hard to say what they could improve on. (Bigger lockers for a full pack) Hot bagels for breakfast, free coffee, luggage storage after 11am checkout. It's obvious they are listening to what backpackers want in a hostel. Within walking distance to Waterfront station and other good spots.
I don't stay at backpackers very often, bit it was OK here. For the price in Vancouver, you can't really complain. It has all the basics.
Lovely place, free breakfast every day. Good kitchen and lounge facilities, great bar, but one tiny thing - the smell of the toilet (which ironically I think comes from the type of paper towel used?) really permeates. Sometimes I can smell it from the end of the hallway. At times it made me dry heave when it's too strong. Right after they're cleaned, it smells ok, but a few hours after that, it's just stinky. It could be an issue of ventilation. That's the only drawback of this place. Besides that, everything is great!
Their breakfast is good. The banana muffins are so delicious, I ate 3 muffins everyday lol. And every room has country's flag, stairs as well. When I saw my country's flag, let me feel so friendly♡ also staff is nice and you can meet many backpacker in hostel. The only one bad thing is they don't have elevator, if you have many luggage, it will be really hard to move.
We loved it here, centrally located, affordable, friendly staff and free breakfast!
It's a welcoming place, with proper facilities. Friendly staff, nice buffet breakfast. A no-frills cheap accommodation. The Beaver (in-house bar) is a lively place but the rooms are not at all affected by the noise. Its location is ideal too as it's right in the middle of downtown. Highly recommended.
This hostel is great! Probably the most comfortable beds I've ever experienced in a hostel. Employees are nice and the facilities are clean enough. My one downside is that people here don't seem to be as friendly as they have been at other hostels I've been to. Still a great place and a good place to stay for travelers.
I’ve stayed in many hostels before, and I can say this is really clean and well kept one. The building itself is old, but I found facilities clean. The breakfast was awesome. The room that I stayed in did not have any wifi connection. I talked to my roommate about it, and he did not have it either. I talked about it at the front desk, but the guy manning the desk did not know what the problem was. Other than that, it is a pretty decent place to stay. But, I must say that all the hostels in Vancouver are overpriced. They put 6 people in a little room, charging $72 (before tax!) per person. If you are staying in Vancouver for summer, check out private rooms are UBC. It is far from downtown though, it could be a better option for you.
Friendly and helpful staff, best price in town. Room was clean, shared spaces well maintained. Breakfast porridge or bagel included.
Great hostel in very convenient location. Reasonably quiet rooms and very clean areas. Breakfast is included and is also great for the value
Solid hostel. The beds were pretty comfortable, the staff was nice, the breakfast was substantial, and I enjoyed the tour to Lynn Canyon that the hostel organized. There was a crowd hanging out late into the night but the building is set up so that the rooms are separated from the common areas, and I didn't notice any noise from the hostel while I slept. There was some street noise but that's why I always travel with earplugs. I would stay here again on my next trip to Vancouver.
Basic/Spartan hostel decor, but private room was clean and staff helpful
You get what you pay for. That being said the staff and hostel organized events are wonderful and the free breakfast is a nice bonus
Great breakfast! Comfortable bed, good quality showers and bathrooms.
I stayed at Samesun in a 6 bedroom mixed dorm, for 4 nights. Between the bar being attached and the convenient location, this place was very clean, the staff was super cool and friendly. Didn’t have a single bad encounter over 4 nights. Anytime I’m in Van I’ll be staying at Samesun from here on out. They have activities that encourage you to mingle with other guests and get you a discount at the bar. Looking forward already to coming back.
Good staff, safe rooms, but old rooms with louder stairwells, great location with night time pub in basement and great social lounge.
Pretty good for a big hostel. The rooms and washrooms are good. The kitchen, common area and bar are great. Perfect to meet other travellers. They have daily activities at the hostel and the bar. Great location close to a grocery store and liquor store.
The Samesun Hostel in Vancouver was quite nice. I stayed there for a couple of days in a private room which was actually quite spaceous for the price. It's still a hostel so the bathrooms aren't always clean but the showers were great. The included breakfast was also quite nice. I have some remarks though which i didn't like that much. Above your door is a ventilator which is basically just a giant hole in the wall so you will hear absolutely everything, especially if you have my room which is directly opposite of the womens shower. This will mean you need really good earplugs or you will wake up constantly to the sound of hairdriers, because nothing beats a 4 AM shower???? They installed the lighting of the hallway also just behind the fan which lights up the whole room in the night. I would suggest to install a small curtain infront of the fan. The Staff at the front desk and at the Bar were really nice and had some good recommendations on stuff to do in vancouver. There was one incident with a barkeeper that i didn't appreciate that much. They seem to have a rule of keeping 2 m between groups, which i totally understand during covid. but that rule seems to be only enforced for people that they don't know yet or that are not their regular guests. i was not allowed a seat at the bar but 4 other people (single, not together in a group) were allowed to sit there because they were friends of the barkeeper. When i asked for an explanation why i was treated differently the barkeeper was not really nice to me. All in all this was a good experience but i think there might be some room for improvement. Edit after the Answer: I'm kind of dissapointed about the answer, there were 4 individual people at the bar. And i sat down, then decided that i will go to another bar where you can meet some people and i returned my menu, told him that i don't think it's fair to be treated differently and left to a brewery nearby. I would have preferred an answer to the other points i adressed to a attack from your side, but when i read the other reviews, there seems to be a pattern to discredit people by attacking them. To reiterate, it was a OK stay, but you should work on customer relations
awful experience. Honestly like go pay an extra 10$ and stay at a normal hostel or hotel. Totally not worth the price. No free parking, they say they have clean rooms, but in reality it is just straight up filthy. Please check recent reviews and not relevant reviews as they only show the 5 star reviews. In addition, this is not a hotel as advertised, it is a hostel which could be considered illegal advertising. Honestly, please do not ignore this honest review. Thank you and you’re welcome in advance.
Great city center hostel, breakfast was great, fresh bagels etc. It's a bit more of a party hostel than others, has bar downstairs.
