REVIEWS OF Grasslands National Park IN Saskatchewan

Danny Fowler

I have a love hate with GNP. My car has broken down on every visit, and cell reception is near non existent. Well it seems better in the west block than the east block. The west block is so beautiful and the Frenchman campground is flatter than the rock Creek on the east side. Just come prepared for high winds, crazy storms and lots of Sun and heat. Water water water. But this place is truly amazing

Véronique Drolet-Gratton

Beautiful in subtle ways. Got to see bison and loads of birds. The prairie dog colonies are pretty impressive. Did not sleep there but still enjoyed driving through for fieldwork.

Jake Willitts

A crown jewel in the National Parks system. Prolific prairie wildlife, epic back country hikes and stunning vistas among many other things. This place is a winner! Loving praises... Canadians should be extremely proud of everything this park represents.

Corey Herod

A great place to get away from it all. The amount of wildlife and different species of birds and grassland plants was extraordinary. The back country loop was fun but a 4x4 is probably recommended. We loved it all :)

skidoo 53

Sky was amazingly beautiful, easy better than expected, however the heat is a big issue here. No trees or swimming areas mean the heat is impossible to escape from and it stays all day. It was 35 degrees from noon to 2100 during my stay, so make sure you either have a trailer or come during cooler times of year.

Yingzi Luan

specular night sky, with all the stars and milkyway. cute cute prairy dogs and other wild life like bison, deer, fox, birds

Barb V

A vast, beautiful park that makes me appreciate the hardships and adaptations of the wildlife, indigenous people and early settlers. Bison roam free and prairie dog colonies thrive throughout the Grasslands. Potable water, but electric only.

Adam Bliven

When we visited it seemed like a dry farm left out of rotation for a season or two . went to park in hopes of seeing oceans of long sweet grass with waves from the breeze . there were no really huge stands of the namesake of park to be seen . Hope to revisit after park has had time to go back to the land and nature has had had opportunity at reprieve .

Gail Kesslar

Incredible vista's, unique experiences, wild bison, and tons of other wildlife and plant species, oh, and did I mention the dark skies?

Claudio Della Valle

Fantastic Saskatchewan national park. Spotted many endangered species including the burrowing owl, buffalo, pigmys etc.. Camping was very reasonable with a communal centre which had WiFi, plug ins, a stove top, BBQ and information centre. Very helpful staff and clean, updated facilities. Information stops and hikes for all skill levels. Highly recommended if you visit Saskatchewan. A must see!

Kai C

Great stay in the oTentiks at Frenchman Valley Campground! oTentiks were clean and comfy, paths were nice especially during sunset hours. Really great one night stay, will visit again.

LYNN GUAY

We had no water and there was a fire van. Thank goodness we brought water. We also had a little camp stove. You will rough it out there. I'm amazed at how the people back in the day roughly lived. Omg. Some Beauty that can only be shared by experience. Please go. Have what you need!

Vincent Houghtaling (ocarina_21)

Quietest place. So much to see. If someone asks me the one place to visit in Saskatchewan, this is always what I tell them.

Hani D Tundo

Something magical about this place. Highly recommended for families. Dinosaur fossil tours was amazing.

Chris Hartman

I was extremely lucky to have spotted the buffalo herd and sat in my car as they surrounded me. They are extremely fast and extremely dangerous so please stay in your vehicle. Grasslands is just as beautiful in the winter.

Sharon Young

Gorgeous place but be prepared with a full tank of gas and water as there are no amenities. If you love the badlands, nature and solitude this is the place. Go past Frenchman campground follow the road that turns into a dirt path and you will find your self overlooking fort peck reservation. In the heart of the badlands

Logan Edwards

The place itself is absolutely gorgeous, albeit laid out a bid odd, and signs weren't very clear when I was last there. That being said, I sadly did not come across any rattlesnakes visually, but I did hear one shaking his tail in a bush, so that was pretty cool.

Nate Sullivan

My favorite campsite in Saskatchewan. Won't go any place but here

Kat Crow

Truly amazing. I could stay for days and watch the wildlife. And the sunsets. So many wildflowers. You truly can get lost here-hike a few hundred feet from the campground and it disappears. If you go with your trailer bring a full water tank. They don't have a full station.

Tara

Almost nobody and nothing but open plains/badlands!! So difficult to find this degree of freedom in most parks/camping locales. Highly recommended, but then again it would be better to not attract too many people so we can preserve the wilderness...

Nick Kaminski

Certainly less to do than some other national parks but still great nonetheless. Amazing prairie landscapes. The majestic bison, rattlesnakes and hundreds of prairie gophers are just some of what you'll see here. Thunderstorms and sunsets are especially beautiful here. Highly recommended.

Patrick Wilson

Had a great time here camping with family. Very clear beautiful dark skies for observing. Lots to see and hike during the day just don’t do during a heat wave like me lol.

ipak9

What a nice place! Little paradise full of nature. The little town is really cool, lot of things to see and the hikes are amazing!

Jessyca Reid

Loved this place! I went specifically for the endless sea of grass, wildlife, wild territory, backcountry camping and hiking. Don't expect trees and shade or swimming creeks to cool down. Very hot in July/August so bring lots of water, sun screen and cover up (we were wearing long sleeves). Great landscape and peace. Barely saw anyone there except two hikers and 3 or 4 cars, which is amazing. The staff at the entrance is great and helpful. Cool informative book and stops to complete by car to learn about the grasslands and the history of them. Beware of rattlesnakes, but 3 days in the country and we didn't see nor hear any. I encourage people to go visit greatly worth the detour! Very different than what most of us are used to for landscape and park. Great value to keep protecting and to discover.

Rachel J I

Absolutely incredible park. We camped in the East Block and did the scenic drive along the Badlands Parkway for the views. It was 28°C during the day and 8°C at night. We also drove over to the West Block for the eco-tour scenic route and got to see a herd of bison. Make sure you drive to the lookout on the back country loop in the West Block. Amazing place. Can't wait to revisit.

Melissa MacNeil

Beautiful open park. Went frontcountry camping in the West block and had a pretty good time. I live in Sask though so the scenery wasn't completely new to me. Prairie dog colonies gave me a laugh though!

Grasslands National Park is a destination in Canada that everyone should visit at least once in their life time. There's so little natural prairie landscape remaining in this country, but this park is a great example of a natural prairie ecosystem entails. Watch bison and prairie dogs from the comfort of your vehicle. Hiking the trails that take you far into the coulees and atop buttes with stunning vistas. Stand in tipi rings and imagine what life was like for the plains people who hunted bison here hundreds of years ago. If you're Canadian you NEED to visit this park in order to understand what the prairies once looked like.

Chelsea Finnigan

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Being able to see all the stars - and the milky way with the naked eye is an incredible experience I would recommend to anyone. The park was really well kept as well.

Gord Hunter

I love the landscape. The East Block is more like badlands, the West Block more ranchland. Big open spaces . Unique and rare. Should be a must for Canadians. I am always amazed how few Saskatchewan residents have not bothered to visit. I highly recommend it

Savannah A

Super lovely dark skies, and truly breathtaking scenery, with wonderful hikable trails. Bring binoculars to look at bison from a safe distance (means far away, don't go close to bison)! All in all one of the best trips I've been on.

Cagney Norris

I love this place! One of the largest dark sky preserves in Canada if I’m not mistaken... I try to camp there once a year! Great hikes and views.

Jonathon Suik

Fantastic National Park that I feel is underrated. Most of Central and South Saskatchewan is covered in farmland so it is refreshing to go somewhere where you can see the landscape as it originally was before the land was settled. The views are breathtaking and most photos really cannot do the area justice. This is a vastly different area compared to what most people may be familiar with when they think "National Park". It's easy to associate that with mountains and forested lakes. And while those are certainly amazing and worth seeing, a place like Grasslands National Park offers a unique experience. This is not the place you go to if you want to sit around and relax for the weekend. While you could do that of course, you'll be missing out on what the park really has to offer. It's easy enough to find a list of specific things to do so I won't go into detail. While you certainly don't have to, I would go here expecting to do some hiking. That is by far the best way to really experience the park and you'll be rewarded with views you will find nowhere else in Saskatchewan.

Liam J Crotty

Incredible national park that will how you a side of camping and hiking in Canada that you haven't experienced. Awesome interpretive programming.

Dale and Lori Brown

It is awesome, we didn't spend enough time there. Only drawback was the highway getting there! Absolutely terrible and parts of it was under construction! Thank God we didn't get a cracked windshield.

Joe McMaster

Great hiking, backpacking, and scenery. The best thing: hardly any people!!! This largely undiscovered gem is worth the trip.

Spencer Robertson

Grasslands is a true gem of a park, totally unique in Canada, it reminds me of Africa. Great history as well. It was super super hot and stormy when we were here in late July.

Tim Purvis

You have to love hiking and just seeing natural grasslands. The beauty is there, you just have to find it.

Christopher Best

A tremendous place to view the stars on a clear night. Abundant animal life that is as easy to spot as it is to simply open ones eyes.

Jocelyn Hennin

We came during a heat wave, with temps reaching 38 degrees Celcius. Loaded up with water and explored anyway. Even hit the teails by horseback. For an area that looks all dried up, there was so much life to see. Birds, bees, butterflies, and the prairie dogs were everywhere. We visited the east block of the park and recommend it highly.

Liam McKinnon

Highly underrated. There's nothing to else like it. If you want to see a bison you'll probably have to get out of your car and hike a bit into the backcountry.

Joe P

Beautiful park, excellent place to see native prairie. There are also bison, prairie dogs, black footed ferrets, burrowing owls, shrike, and many grassland songbirds to be found.

Jocelyne Chan

Amazing place! Totally unique flora and fauna in the country and the views of the milky way at night are really spectacular. Worth a visit just for the night sky alone. On another note, getting to the park was a bit tricky since the bumpy gravel roads through the farmland wasn't always clearly marked.

D Hector

We are so lucky to live near enough to make a day trip! Our trip to the West Block was planned as an eco drive as some members of our family would not be able to hike. We stayed close to the main road and still we saw all these amazing things. Most of our party ventured out of the vehicles often for brief exploration. It was a beautiful Autumn Day, but the wind was intense to start. We dressed warm enough for that and by midday the wind had died down and it was quite warm. We had such a great day and highly recommend this fascinating drive to everyone. Do not venture out without a car full of snacks, water, fuel, and your first aid kit. Depending on your route (and day of the week) you won’t find anywhere to get these things the entire day. We certainly didn’t & were famished with empty Tupperware containers upon our return.

Deb Michel

Very beautiful. I recommend the trail "valley of a thousand devils". The landscape keeps changing as you travel though the trail. There is a spectacular parkway that follows the rim of the valley with a number of outlook points. It is a narrow paved road that minimizes the damage to the landscape.

My husband and I took three horses to the west block of Grasslands Park in June. It was amazing. We camped at the Equestrian campground, which at this point in time is basically a set of six corrals and a watering trough - but that was all that was needed. The equestrian campground shares a beautiful new pit toilet (so new it doesn't even smell!) with the Belza Day Use area. The most important fact about this is that the day use area has trees! The only ones for miles around. Shade was incredibly important during the heat of the day - and other than our horsetrailer's shadow, there was nowhere else to find any. The setting is incredible. Rolling grass covered hills are on either side of the Frenchman River valley. These hills go on for miles, and are covered in original prairie wool. Even the hardiest of pioneers couldn't plow them. They are home to roaming buffalo, which is just way cool. At the time we were there, the bulls had been pushed out of the herd, so everywhere you looked you would find one or two by themselves, hangin' out and eating, resting, or having a dustbath. They are basically scared of people and will normally run if they see you, however of course it is smart to just give them a wide berth. The riding is unparallelled. It is a dream come true for someone who read cowboy stories of ranching days in the prairies. You can ride all day without running into a fence. Simply amazing. The wildlife viewing is also amazing. We saw scads of whitetails and mulies, including a mulie mom with two adorable fawns. We also saw a rattlesnake sleeping on the road, a garter snake, several jackrabbits and of course the black tailed prairie dogs in their colonies. And the birds...for those of us who live too far north we got a wonderful earful of meadowlark song. As you are riding there is a constant burst of activity as small birds take flight from the short grass prairie - many I couldn't identify, but there was always birdsong wherever we went. I also met lark buntings for the first time, curlews, bobolink, prairie falcons, brown thrashers, western flycatchers (which is funny since although we live in Alberta, we only have eastern flycatchers here), nighthawks (we hear them all the time but rarely see them), and saw a bittern and a sora. You never know as you ride over the next hill what you might find. For a landscape so demanding, its surprising how much lives there. And the nights. I have never seen such stars. The Milky Way goes all the way to the horizon. It is truly worth going just to see what the sky used to look like at night before all the light pollution. I swear you can see twice as many stars there as anywhere else. And while you are laying there, amazed by the beauty of the constellations, you are enrobed in complete silence. During the day there is birdsong and wind, but at night (at least for several of the nights we were there) the wind dropped and of course the birds were sleeping. It was the most intense silence I have ever heard. Absolutely delightful. There are some things we found out that are good to know before you go with horses. First of all, we had hoped to camp out in the backcountry a night or two, but soon found out it was impossible to get the horses down to the river for a drink except in a very few number of places. The river banks are steep and impossible to get down for horses. The good news is you can hobble them and they have infinite grass to eat, but there's no place to securely tie them up for the night. And there's no shade. Anywhere. The biggest unexpected problem was NOSEFLIES. We don't have them, so had no experience. During the heat of the day they literally drove some of our horses crazy, rubbing their noses in the dirt and striking out with their front feet. We couldn't even ride, they were so miserable. We coated their noses with flyspray, but it didn't seem to help. Apparently a roll on works better. That is the biggest downer about riding that we found. Early morning and evening were perfect.

Zachary Moxley (Moxley)

The staff at the Grasslands park have to be some of the most accommodating park staff I've ever met! We were there for a film shoot and had a great amount of help from the park ranger. Incredible views!

David Bernakevitch

Everyone should visit this underrated national park. Both sides are beautiful!!! You must visit both the east and west sides, but please be aware that they are a couple hours away from each other.

Emily Tsui

Absolutely beautiful. My partner and I hiked out on the 70 Mile Butte Trail beginning at 7pm so it wasn’t too hot. We got a backcountry permit, which means that you can pitch a tent anywhere in the park as long as it’s 1km from the road. We camped out at the highest point of the trail (halfway in- took less an 1hr to get there) and set up camp. Trail was well travelled- you shouldn’t have any problem getting there once you have a brief glance at a map at the entrance of the trail. Once it got dark, we had a truly, truly incredible view of the night sky. This is a must go place for anyone wishing to try out astrophotography. Some tips if you choose to: bring a tripod (you really don’t have anything to prop a camera up otherwise, there’s no trees or anything), extra batteries, a headlamp, a sweater (gets a bit chilly at night); eat beforehand because of the fire ban, meaning you can’t set up your stove; and google Dark Sky conditions for the park to know what time is the best. Highly recommend!

Krista Cairns

Pick up groceries and local crafts at the Whitemud Store in Val Marie when going to West Block. Visitor Center in Val Marie has nice display, there are more people to help/give info at campground in park. Good place to walk in the prairie and connect with nature.

Dana Provost

Just fell in love with the area and meeting all of the wonderful folks traveling through the park. So much to see and so much wildlife. The Park staff is honestly the the kindest and helpful people I've ever met. I had an amazing time. I'm definitely planning to go back in the future.

Heather MacNeill

A huge family favourite! Went again this year with family from France. They loved it. We had a wonderful time!

jesus lopez

Stunning!!! I'm so glad to have found this place, it feels amazing to be in a place like this one, sunset was my favorite thing here... Totally recommend camping here...

Latesh J

This is one of the most scenic national park. The end road connectivity may not be perfect but this place is still beautiful. Mobile network connection is poor hence you will have more time to spend with nature.

Stephen Haugen

A great place to view the stars, but a nightmare to get there. The signage is non-existant, and the roads are atrocious. On Highway 18 we saw 1 sign, near McCord, which stated Grasslands was 96 km away. Unfortunately, it doesn't say which direction. We finally had to call the park, and find out we were driving in the wrong direction, so we had to turn around and go back the way we came. Finally got there about 3 hours late. Tired and irritated, we left one day early. Not fun.

Monkey Pig

Great place. Lots of hiking. If you don't like the primitive experience, there are the Otentiks. Beautiful, lots of animals (please don't harass our feed them). Great star gazing. Beautiful prairie. Lots of hikes. You live with the prairie dogs at the camp ground. Very cute. There are some electrical hook up for campers. Dump station. Bring a big big to full up your water. If you will be there a long time, get stock up at Swift Current. There a small grocery store at Val Marie and some really nice, but small and quaint eat place at Val Marie. It a 35 km drive through mostly unpaved road into Frenchman camp ground (west block). No shower. You can pay at the camp ground in Val Marie for shower / laundry. I just used my shower tent. They have wifi at the ranger center at the camp ground. During the season, there are ranger run program to educate us about the practice prairie. Not really any bike trail. Unless you are an avid cyclist. Most trails are grass or gravel. I really enjoyed the trip. Was there 1 wk. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Go out of their way to help you. If you are coming from winnipeg, go to East Block first. Otherwise it's 2 hours drive from West Block. There is ONE gas station in town. In 2019, the Rangers had the educational programs. There were a couple of program that cost $14. This word ranger-led hikes archaeological site and and bison facility. Well worth the money. Especially if one has oh, it is very educational and the hikes are very easy. Said were campfire talks and other programs that were free. They were all high quality. I am glad I participated most of them. These were not tourist trap call Vance. You get a lot of information about the ecology, conservation, and history of the park and its people ( past and present. They also brought indigenous expert talk to you about the history. I will definitely try to come back to Grasslands again. Unfortunately because of global warming ranching Etc, are prairie are in danger. Hope I get to see it again in my lifetime current conditions. Oh, he prepared to drive on gravel during your stay here

Éric Barrette

A real hidden gem! Amazing starlit sky, bison, rattlesnake and more. A favorite during my cross canada tour

Brenda Doyle

This is a remote location but worth the drive when the roads are dry. If the campground is fully booked on-line, go anyway, there is overflow camping available.

Somnath Naha

Out of the world...one of the best vacations we have ever had. Highly recommended.

Sophie Baillargeon

Magnificent National Park, how to feel in another age!! Prairie dogs made my daughters’ stay unforgettable. Bison are too far to see, but we got lucky to see one from close at the entrance near the water pot. Be sure to enjoy the sunset by the red chairs!

D Dawson

Stargazing is second to none here. The daytime vistas are spectacular. The beauty of the prairies was unexpectedly magnificent in this park. It is worth getting off Hwy#1 and making a detour here.

Jibz Esquivel

Picturesque views. Simply breathtaking. Dark skies is as dark as it gets!

Kristy Suik

What an underrated National Park! We just loved it here. The absolute unparalleled experience of the Grasslands compared to let's say Saskatchewans other National Park in Prince Albert, is crazy awesome. We were 2 of maybe 40 guests Max that weekend. Definitely not over crowded, soooo much to see. Lots of hiking, bird watching and geo caching. The park facilities were excellent, the park guides were fantastic and we made it out on a astronomy night. It was fantastic. I can't say enough good things about this park, and we only explored a fraction of it. I can't wait to go back again! Great for RV's, tents, tent trailers, front country and back country camping. Be warned, no trees though, just lots and lots of Grassland!

Gil Strachan

The Badlands are a must-see. The 6 km hike out to the Valley of 1000 Devils is definately worth the trip.

Robyn Bird

Lots of land to cover, but it's really beautiful.

Light

What an amazing place the Grass Lands National Park was! We saw so many animals a herd of bison running, male moose, Prairie Dogs, coyote, deer, badger! We camped there as well. It's a dark sky reserve great for star gazing :)

Paul Hanbury

Stunning and unique landscapes with lots of biodiversity.

Anne Belanger

Stayed in the east end for one night. Great experience, aside from a possible mis-label of the red butte on the information map. This turned us around on what was otherwise an excellent hike/run in the grassland area. Free to roam everywhere! There was wind, but it was a relief from the warm temperatures.

Le Toucanator

Good hiking, peacful camping, great scenery.

Ron Vollo

Got close to a buffalo who was beside the road. Some interesting stops along the eco tour. 70mile bluff hike had great views from the top.

Doug Anderson

Saskatchewan gets more interesting the more I see of it. Grasslands has two sections. I went to the west block. There’s lots of grass and open space. A dark sky at night to see what you can’t in the city. Calm and quiet. Prairie dogs and bison. That’s a lot of stuff packed into one place. Apparently, the east block is much different, more like the badlands. And fossils.

Aundrea R

West block was nice. I was allowed to openly wonder the grasslands. I only saw 1 bison. The Frenchman valley campground was a flat open field style. It was sufficient for the night but no privacy.

Manthan Makwana

The time when we went the grass was not green. We went in august when we were returning from Vancouver and going east bound. We saw so many prairies dogs. Though did not be able to catch glimpse of Bison. This national park is known for extreme temperature. As there are no trees to provide shades. So when it gets sunny in summer it gets scorching hot. Do carry a lot of water if you plan to hike in this park.

yafeng Li

Very comfortable place. Many bison, prairie dogs, deers, very beautiful sunset. For now it's free. Campgrounds is very cheap.Nice place for you.????

Linda Bodenmann

A wonderful place! One big problem: Mosquitos! They are all over you in summer! So you should check when exactly their breeding season is. However, as soon as the wind picks up (which is very often) or you get some rain, they are gone. In any case, the area is just absolutely gorgeous! And there is a wonderful scent in the air. The campground was quite empty, clean, and even had wireless. The employees were very friendly and pleasant!

Erin Hertz

Worth seeing, plan on bringing your own ice & plenty of drinks. We stayed 2 nights in an oTENTiks, which was a good experience. Expect hot days & cold nights. Wind at night makes the tent fairly loud. Great views!

Arjun Sajeev

Good Place in SK. Aswsm Sun rise view and camp site. Visitors please be aware that this is a remote place. Really bad reception. No gas bar/restaurant near. Should fuel up full at your latest gas station. No service whatsoever nearby. Also aware about the roaming if you are able to get a reception. I had low-key panic attack ???? cuz on a Sunday I visited this place no food/gas ⛽ until I reached back in Moose jaw. Lesson learned.

Jim Pattison

I've lived in Saskatchewan all my life but this was amazing. Grassland as far as you can see and amazing hills to climb up for a better view. There are trails but you can go off on your own adventure if you want to. Note: the water is very salty so bring your own

William Dobie

BEAUTIFUL. Completely underrated national park

James Forrester

A beautiful grassland park. Lots of wildlife to see. Bison, Mule deer, white tailed deer, black tailed prairie dogs, coyotes and more

Leland Guillemin (Lee)

Stayed in an otentik and really loved the relaxing vacation. Not much to do, not much to see. Cell reception is alright in some spots.

Omni andra

It was beautiful here. So much to see and do. The wildlife was amazing it see, to sit and watch them walk around. The sky is so clear without any light pollution, perfect pictures to be taken of the stars. I can't wait to come back here and walk some of the other trails that are here.

Luc Sirois

A unique ecosystem, a unique scenery. Experience life in the prairies, and the heat, like the settlers and First Nations must have known it.

Adam T

What an amazing park!! It feels like the Tombstone national parks in Yukon, but warmer! We could walk anywhere in the wild, and camp there. It was a wonderful experience, with wilderness and wildlife, in a very unique type of environment. I highly recommend to go there, it's definitely a gem of Saskatchewan!

Rory Hebb

My last visit was the eclipse. The park was very helpful in making sure everyone had a safe way to view and provided experiments during the phenomenon. We were even given the opportunity to view through a telescope. Thank you Grasslands National Park east block for the memorable experience.

Tim Cappelle

It's a beautiful location with draw for some kinds of people. If your from southern Saskatchewan, you'll feel like your walking through your grandpas fields. There are a couple good hikes, but they are still mostly just walking up hills in wild grass. There is very little shade here, and it gets very hot in the summer. Bring lots of water and bug repellent. You will basically be camping in an open field. There is a good size open air building in the east block that is a good place to get out of the sun, play board games, etc. If you are star gazer, the draw for you will be much greater. It is a dark sky preserve and the night skys are beautiful! There is a fair bit of wild life around. We saw some wild buffalo, prairie dogs, and deer. This place is not for everyone, but there could be a lot of fun to be had.

David C

Did Eagle Butte Loop and Ecotour Scenic Drive, and it was very quiet and isolated away from the modern life. There is minimal interaction with other people unless you’re in the day use area or campground. For wildlife, I saw prairie dogs, white tailed jack rabbit, bison, and an antelope that I hit on my way out as it jumped towards my headlight - be careful to drive at night and avoid if possible!

Gord Bradley

Like nothing we've seen elsewhere in Canada. Very rustic for a national park (gravel roads only), but appropriately so. A lot of driving through very little civilization to get there...which adds to the unique charm. And we saw 2 bison a few minutes into the park boundary...

Scott Legare

Beautiful park, amazing quality native grassland. By far the highest quality native grassland I have ever experienced, abundant with native species. Campground is very nice and Ecotour road makes accessing and viewing the the park convenient. Highly recommended those who enjoy pristine nature, the park is very undeveloped and much less touristy than places like Banff.

Greg Baxter

A hidden gem, off the beaten track but lots of history to learn, great hikes and recent upgrades to the campground are nice.

Chad Tiringer

1 star is being nice. I can't believe this is considered a park. The Saskatchewan desert is what I call it Hot, dry, dust. That's about all there is to see here. Campsites are a joke. Absolutely no privacy whatsoever. What blows my mind is that the government is wasting money building a highway through it. Nice, new, expensive highway through the middle of nothing

Sacha Ruzzante

Really cool park, worth spending a night (or longer)!

Nipun Navaratne

Pretty sweet place that makes you fall in love with the flat prairie lands with rolling hills. park staff was friendly, helpful and great people. Night sky is breathtaking, on clear days you can see the milky way if you look closely. They have wifi, microwave, bikes to rent, games in the coulee center so you're never bored even when things are winding down for the night. When theres a fire ban in effect they provide a common BBQ grill run on gas for campers to use. it is very windy so be cautious when tenting, there are drinkable water in the taps but no shower. The road to get here is gravel, SUV is preferred for the road but if you drive careful you can manage by a car. Bring enough and neccessary supplies and you're set as nature will keep you entertained.

Suranjan Jega

Great campground to see the milky way, bisons and other wildlifes. Currently they don't have showers in the east block, during our stay they were doing construction for that. So plan accordingly.

Joshua Thomas

We were on a cross country trip and found this Park by accident. We loved it for it's beauty and remoteness. The campground on the Eastern side was clean and spacious. You pay once for firewood, but then it it's unlimited. It gets very dark, so good star viewing. If you are tenting there is a shelter you can eat in and they actually have sinks for you to do your dishes, although when we were there the water was of due to construction. Be careful on the roads, it is dirt roads for a number of kilometres leading into the park and the signs are small. This is a must see little gem.

Devon Brooks

Fantastic flowers in spring, not at all crowded, rugged beautiful terrain (NOT prairie flat) and abundant wildlife and friendly staff.

Tyler Pidlubny (Sum Guy)

Rock Creek campground is wide open without any privacy. There are no showers or running water in the bathrooms. The two major trails have no signage. The map they give you is extremely basic. The lookout area is mostly one lane with two-way vehicle traffic. The visitors centre sells trail mix, ice, energy bars, bison burgers and buns. They have one vending machine that sells drinks.

Pam Moore

Grasslands is one of the most amazing places we have stayed in Canada and we have been coast to coast and in between. It is for outdoor enthusiasts who want to be part of and enjoy nature as it is, not command and destroy it. It can be peaceful or an adventure. One of our favourite places.

Second time visiting. This time spent two nights in East and West Blocks. Both were amazing. Highly recommend.

Great place to go camping if you like hiking or dark sky preserves. The facilities are clean, the staff are friendly and it's never too crowded (it's one of the least visited parks in Canada). Since fire bans are common in the summer there are BQQs that can be used to cook your food. Since there is no humanity for miles, the stars are pretty spectacular. You should be able to see the milky way on even a hazy night. However, if you are considering a visit, be aware that hiking in the prairies is not just a walk in the park (pun intended). The weather can be very, very hot (+40°C) or very, very cold (-40°C) depending on the time of year. There can be a temperature swing of about 20 degrees easily between day and night. Except at the campground, there is no potable water in the park- so make sure you bring plenty on your hikes. There is also free roaming plains bison, rattlesnakes (still haven't seen one), cacti, quicksand, etc.... And keeping true to it's namesake, don't expect a lot of trees. If you don't like the sun, then this may not be the park for you. All in all, it''s a great place to visit, but don't come unprepared! Bring lots of water on hikes (I've seen someone pass out when hiking here), bring lots of layers, hike in groups and always let people know where you are going and when you will be back.

Amazing trails and scenary! Especially sunrise at 70 mile Butte trail and sunset at the end of the valley of 1000 devils route.

Amazing hikes . Great national park. Both the west and the east block

Arthur Agar

Great place to visit . Lots of trails to explore and make sure you look for the red national parks chairs . 1 in the west block . 3 in the east block . Lots of history in the area and the visitors center is very helpful . I will definitely visit again . Would highly recomend . Make sure if you are camping in the park you fill your water tank before you go as there is no place inside the park to do this . The campgrounds have good washrooms . There is also horse corrals at both campgrounds .

Truly one of Canada's hidden gems. The pictures posted online don't do it justice. Very unique landscapes in both the east and west blocks although the west block has more diverse fauna. Stay late for the sunset and especially for the nighttime skies where you can see the milky way with the naked eye.

The landscapes with bring you back to a different era when cattle and cowboys occupied the land. However, Although there are some interpretive trails with wayfinding signs explaining the topography and history, there is little of the history to see. The was one set of buildings that still exist but they are in rough shape with nothing little there to explain the life of the ranchers. Dogtown was kind of fun with the prairie dogs peeping up out of their holes. I walked the Two Trees trail. It's not too long and fairly easy. It takes you through the tall grasses along the river. There was some tipis set up at the head of the trail at what looked to be an old farm/ranchhouse site because of the trees. Don't let the drive into Two Creeks throw you off as you will be driving in on a dirt trail through a pasture area. You will dip down into the valley at the end where the strat of the trail is. All in all, the park is a work in progress and a bit remote from anything else.

Highly recommended checking this park out if you get the chance.

When people say Saskatchewan they automatically think flat canola fields and prairie skies that continue forever. While that has it's own beauty. Grasslands is a shocking discovery! Immensely gorgeous, vast badlands and rolling hills! So much wildlife and the most mind blowing night skies you'll ever see. We visited during covid, so there were fewer amenities available. But that did not hinder our experience at all. Highly recommend everyone who has a chance visit both East and West blocks, they each hold they're own secrets and deserve discovery. .... Or don't visit, so we can keep this gem to ourselves ????

We had a wonderful time at Grasslands National park. The scenery was just gorgeous, I never knew the prairies could be so beautiful. We saw plenty of wildlife and the parks canada staff were always friendly and helpful. It's a must visit.

Love this place. Lots to hike and great view points. Lots of bison to and wild life! The one thing I was a bit let down on though was in the east block they had red lighting at night. We'd went for the dark skies presentation and had already set up our telescopes but the hang put shack had bright white lights that seemed to flood the over flow camping area which made it really hard to see any detail, when the night before you could see so much with the naked eye. It seems that having the same red lighting in the actual dark sky preserve would be a much better move.

Out of this world location. Must see.

A true gem in the national park system. We stopped here more on a whim and were not disappointed. We stayed at the Frenchmen Valley campsite which is a little remote but has all the neccesaties that you need. There are pit toilets that are very clean and a common building that offers a few amenities. There are hiking trails that leave right from the campsite and they all lead to beautiful views. If you stay here do yourself a favor and leave all your electronics in a box, just unplug and unwind. An amazing spot!!

Great place to watch night sky. One can observe lots of wild animals such as bisons, deer, snakes, and many varieties of birds. Very decent campgrounds with drinkable water and electricity. However, no indoor plumbing anywhere. It is middle of nowhere but offers free wi- fi. The camp ground also has one or two free propane grills. The community hall in the campground also has wood burning stove that can be used for cooking .

Had an awesome time at Fossil Dig today!

Glenda Rossignol

We took our Grand children and although there was restrictions due to covid 19 we had a great time hiking seeing wildlife. We also sat at picnic area and had a picnic. We will come back.

Parks Canada has a winner here. The land is rolling, short-grass prairie that takes you back in time. With the buffalo herds, antelope, deer and prairie dogs, you can easily imagine being here centuries ago. Parks Canada did a good job with maps, signage, trails and road access. Staff are knowledgeable and polite. Loved this national park. It was so quiet and peaceful. Saw groups of prairies dogs, roaming bison, found fossils, and enjoyed the skies and scenery.

Gregory Lai

It was pretty windy. There is nothing here to break the wind. But the fields have their own charm. Stayed in a o-tentik (think that's what it's called). The tent was clean and very cozy.

Malcom Fisher

Camp in a prarie dog town. little critters popping up and down all around you. And feel the glory of wind. The unimproved field for tent camping is great, the rest is crowed and cramped. Bison

Dwayne Burns

Uniqueness everywhere here. A nice change from any other areas we have visited

manas roy

Great visit, felt like a safari, full of wildlife.. Cows, Prairie dogs, Deer with antlers, probably few hundred Bisons, Coyotes (we saw at least 4-5) and natural beauty. Clear pristine sky both day and nights, lots of stars as there is no pollution (very remote area), in order to get into the park one has to take gravel road for 25 kms and inside the park also all the roads are gravel road only.

Bryan W

Awesome great hike to the Valley of a 1000 Devils

Carolyn Reitzel

Peaceful Prairie park with great staff and programs. Access to common area wonderful, but would recommend running cold water for bathrooms and shower, since these are currently only the pit toilets.
