One cup crack heads, one cup drunks, one cup millennial hipsters. Throw it all into a mixing bowl and that is Dundonald Park. It's nothing if not vibrant. Enjoy if that's your thing.
Great park. They show movies over the summer nights which is nice.
Scary at night. Needs more light. Tho 3 hours of free parking around the park during the week day when other streets nearby are 1 or 2 hours.
A nice little community park to study, do a little yoga, people watch, or watch a movie. Also, it has a nice play area for kids. There can be some interesting people lurking around but overall it's a friendly place.
There was a drunk lady near by the children playing place. She shouted and behaved herself saucily.
If you are wondering where all the playgrounds are in downtown Ottawa, this is the only one for miles and is in a pretty chill setting. Convenient for parents to grab a cup of tea, eat or hit the beer store around the park too. Nothing too spectacular but for the most part all the other playgrounds downtown are non-existent, in a school or actually just a memorial.
Grab a Timmy's and slowly walk around the park. Truly peaceful.
It has amazing views nice bridge crossing into Sandy hill...
Good location (near Tim Horton's and the Beer Store) and always something going on!!
Ideal to visit in the summer, great place to take your dog or children (there's a playground area with new structures!). There are also benches all around the park and little tables to sit at. During the summer there are TONS of weekly events going on: community yard sales, movie nights on a big screen, yoga, etc.
It's the nearest park to my home, I like it and my son likes it. Unfortunately, it is full of homeless people who are smoking weeds most of the time and this doesn't make me comfortable!
Very nice place to chill on a nice sunny day! We like coming here to sit down and chill on a hot day when walking around the downtown area
The park it's good during the day but at night, the homeless and addics an known to frequent
It's a park with a play structure for kids and lots of interesting characters for people watchers! Chess boards on permanent tables, and some grass to roll around in with your dog. What more could you want?
Well maintained and mature. Playground isn't great but is fenced in. Crowd is your typical mix of center town locals. Usually very busy.
Shady park spot for the kids to play. Very downtown vibe with local characters hanging out enjoying the day. Great spot and plenty of options for coffee. I recommend Birling
kids play area, eating benches, play with your dog, this park literally has it all even watch an outdoor movie in the summer every Friday night
If you want to see group of homeless people in Ottawa, must go place.
Not really a park for children unless they are accompanied by a adults, I purposely put at least two adults, that's how that park is like
Perfect park for small kids. Completely fenced in with only 2 gates.
Small little play ground here good for young kids. open area is so so depending on the time of day beer store right across the street so alot of unfavorable people go and drink in the park
Was very clean and quite in the even people around were very polite
[Copied from my Yelp.] Dundonald Park is a large piece of greenspace close to Chinatown; unfortunately, that's pretty much all it is. The sketchy neighbourhood doesn't make it the most glamorous place. I wouldn't be worried about sitting around during the day. There are a few kids on the play structure and a handful of dog walkers that do come around. I was on the park bench for 30 minutes to access the pokestops in the area (sit on the park bench right in front the Beer Store and you can access 3 pokestops in 1 go). Sadly, I think that was the main reason most people were in the park. Avoid this place at night. When I drive by, there are usually sketchy characters and/or police cars.
This park is a great neighborhood spot. Tons of kids... Right now a couple puddles but it is spirng... Summer is around the corner
Cute, central and a great cross section of people. Good for the kids atvthevpkay ground and people watching or to simply lay down in the sun.
It's a great park but unfortunately there are many people who drink in the park and there's been numerous fist fights outside of the fenced in kids park but still close enough and loud enough that kids see and hear it!! Other than that it's a great park
Excellent people watching. The drunks always take over the good seating spots.
Full of people drinking and drunk.
I had to meet and have lunch with a friend and got a free show from the police running around after drunks and crack heads . So if your looking for place to drink and pass out underneath a nice tree or on a bench this is the place to go
I think this park will get more high ratings if the neighborhood and the locals get transformed. Someone else made an excellent suggestion to move the Beer Store far away from this park. One light of hope and peace is the Bible Study that takes place on Saturday, amidst the chaos all around them. We’ll see what happens…
This park isn’t horrible but it can use some improvements. Benches are plentiful, and lots of green space to walk or relax. Unfortunately, there are often panhandlers and other people like that around. They don’t really cause any problems though. Last time I went the water fountain did not work, not sure if they fixed it? On the border with Chinatown. If you’re hungry there’s a Tim Hortons across the street along with the Beer Store. ????????????????
I don't recommend this venue at this point in time. Frequently used for drug related activities
Nice parc, but many homeless hang there. Children's area very busy in season.
Small, simple, safe park. Lots of benches, a picnic table or two. A couple of chess tables. A play area for children. Lots of shade. Next to China town.
Nice, large, trees and many benches. A few homeless people but they keep to themselves.
Family friendly park during the day, scary place at night.
Very pretty in the daytime, with a couple of pokestops, at least 3,accessible without crossing a road or leaving the park. It can be a bit sketch at night.
Always pretty, there's also plenty of events during the warmer months. Recommended :)
Nice park, places with shades and spots in open sun.
Park is beautiful but there are cigarette butts everywhere.
Quiet at some moment but mostly noisy
Beautiful tree canopy to relax in on a hot summer day, movie in the park nights churn out a good crowd.
Park is just ok...some interesting folks. But...on a weekend summer night this is the home of Centretown movies! Awesome setup with fun movies. Bring a chair or a blanket and sit under the stars and watch great movies. Pricing is pass the hat.
We went to this park with our own launchers to sit in the shade and ordered food from Chinatown and ate in the park socially distanced from everybody it was a nice date day. Tim Hortons across the street was open to get nice warm or cool beverages as well as use the washrooms
A lot of homeless and drunk people in that park. Won't take my child there. Thanks to Beer Store nearby.
Friendly people, always lots of children for our son to play with and learn from.
Nice open park in downtown. A nice sight. Breaks up downtown with some greenery.
A nice park to relax at. It has a closed area for kids to play in undisturbed by adults. You can walk around with your dog on a leash, it is large considering it is right in the center of downtown, which many benches.
It would be a great little park if they relocated the beer store. People sit around and drink all day, fights break out. It's a horrible park
Go there a lot with my small child and the playground is typically full of kids (in a nice way). There are toys around for them to play with. Lots of open green space outside of the playground to enjoy a moment. It is in a bit of a rough spot, but isn't noticble during the day.
I love coming to this park because of its proximity from where I work. I like to sit and enjoy the weather, the issue that I have is that there are FAR too many creepy people. I often come to this park and have seen many fights, yelling matches, and have experienced enough unwanted encounters with people who are high or drunk or just plain creepy. It is not possible to just sit and enjoy the weather without someone making a comment or someone staring far too long. A little bit of regular security may help clean the place up a bit. Aside from that, it is a beautiful place.. great location.. great size. - Accessible - Playground - Benches - Picnic tables - Shade or sun.. Everything is great except the creeps.
Absolutely love this park from the permanent chess tables that they have installed to the cool painted benches that are around and the nice field where you can see people doing tai chi in the morning and playing frisbee in the afternoon with their friends to even doing some yoga it's a great part to come and relax on your lunch break or when you have a minute after work
Visited the park for an Earth Day event. It’s a lovely park in a great neighbourhood. Lots of benches and a very nice play structure. It’s also very clean!
Cool place to chill, but don't try drinking the police as this park as red
Better to visit in the morning it can be a bit sketchy in the evenings. Also the smell from the garbage/recycling can be pretty bad you can smell it halfway across the park sometimes especially on a hot day.
It’s a nice little park in the core of the city. It can be a be a bit rough at times with yelling matches between other park goers, but it’s easy enough to avoid if you stick to the middle and side with the playground.
Such a good place to sit. Friendly park.
Very beautiful and quiet. Well maintained and clean.
A great little park to relax and soak up some sun.
I like this park its a community hub there is a micro library and a fenced tot lot and lots of space for everyone.
It's a nice place in day time and a place to launch.
A large park in central Ottawa catering to a diverse crowd. Good access by bike, a playground and lots of room to sit or meet people.
Centrally located public park, with limited child play facilities. The Ottawa City Run Club meets weekly at 7:30pm near the middle lamp posts for group runs.
Nice park to walkthrough if you're in the area. But I've been warned that some sketchy people hang around here so I try to avoid the park if possible.
The "central park" of Ottawa (no comparisons made). With mature trees and a children's playground. Could use updated benches.
Dundonald Park is one of the larger parks in central Ottawa. In summer, the large canopies of several old maples provide plenty of shade from the sun and shelter during brief afternoon rain showers. Younger children never seem bored exploring the various structures constructed for their amusement in a playground within the park, and people of all ages visit the park to play lawn games, enjoy a picnic or just to sit and relax on one of the many benches.
It was nice and clean. Can't say I felt 100% safe but in a group setting I would go back!
Simple...
Alright park could use some modernization and additional lighting to help deter the constant drinking.
Its reputation precedes it, but I see this park as a lovely, cared-for greenspace in the heart of centertown that is well loved by parents and passersby!
Quite a mixed crowd, not all of whom are friendly. Not unusual for there to be loud, vulgar arguments.
Urban garden in the middle of downtown. Refreshs the eyes.
They have some great activities going on here in the summer! Unfortunately it's still a little underlit and isolated at night
I usually pass through this park when I go out for long walks. It’s a nice place to just chill out and drink a cup of coffee.
Small piece of green in the middle of downtown. Not bad to retire for a few minutes. It's probably not a good idea to be here after dark. As far I understand, unwelcome characters might show up.
Quite peaceful despite it being a very busy area, well kept, sometimes have fun events such as movies at the park in the summer. Beautiful trees.
Wonderful Park however it is the happy medium between a gentrified area with millionaire houses and homeless people, bottom line actually seen a vagrant fight a patron of the Tim Hortons because he did not give him spare change...smh
There are like 8 garbage cans there, none of which you can put dog waste bags in, so if you're walking by with your dog, you have to walk a while with a bag of poo in your hands. Irresponsible owners will either not bother to pick up their dog's poo, or they'll leave bags of it around. I encountered both problems yesterday while walking through the park. Luckily it wasn't in the playground area at least.
New and improved equiptment play area with sand for children but the area does not inhabit the best crowd. Excluding the parents and their children of course cause they are always welcoming and have good energy ☺
It's a fantastic and fun park for kids and dogs. Sometimes they organize a yoga event on Sundays. Just stay away at night, it tends to attract bums and drugs
Popular park with the Chinatown community. Hosts movies in the park and has a playground
Great community outreach involvements organized in this park.
Beautiful historic park that is over run with rowdy alcoholics in the summer. If you go before the beer store opens it is quiet scenic.
Bum park. Should be condemned.
Nice place to sit and rest or have a coffee from Tim Horton across the street. Shady on a hot day.
If doctors office's were this nice we could be a healthy nation once again. Doctors might become a little more healing with their practice's. I waited out my appointment with you know who at the park. ????
Love how they're showing movies in the summertime though there's still issues of drug crimes and all happening in broad daylight in this park.
Really beautiful green space for connecting with the nature.
Beautiful inner city park with a Tim Horton's & even a beer store right there!!
It's an awesome place to hang out with friends
A well used small urban oasis that has a great vibe. This little gem is an great representation of the mixed neighbourhood that is Ottawa's Centretown. While it's true that later at night the park may have a few homeless people or others that, from a distance, can seem scary, the rest of the time it's just a perfect small inner city green space. During the day you never know what use will be made of it - badminton, yoga, dog walking, movie nights, gardening, frisbee, bird watching, reading, chatting. There is also a well used and maintained children's play area. Later in the evening as families and others totter off to bed the park is used by other neighbourhood residents as a place to (usually) quietly gather. I've walked through the park at all hours of day and night and have never had any issues - it's well lit and borders on well used Somerset Ave so not really a very threatening environment even late at night. All in all a perfectly sane and normal urban oasis. Unfortunately Ottawa has too few of these gems.
Large park. Play area is gated with sand. Plenty of shade. Park benches are nice.
The city needs to be more active in cleaning up this park and policing those that use it.
Nice park, good for a quick dog walk . Movies in the summer are nice .
Nostalgic place for me, and Ottawa's most diverse and vibrant 'square'.
A nice playground for kids, but it also attracts a rough crowd. The police had to remove a portable meth lab last year.
well after delivering edible flowers to a nearby establishment. I picked up a single can from the convently located beer store and enjoyed it, well I visited this colorful park???? Minutes into my visit I was greeted by a man with a baby crocodile....just holding it in his hands. needle park is worth the trip! Bring the kids... ????there's a great play structure, with a fence. all in all beautiful historic park.....
Nice playground. An assortment of people frequent park, including parents and children as well as people smoking weed and crack.
My go-to for having a double double
A comfortable Community park. We'll managed.
It's due for a serious renovation. A fountain would certainly be welcomed and would add some prestige to the park.
Dundonald Park hosts an eclectic mix of people whom, for the most part, enjoy the space in relative harmony which is reflective of the neighborhood in which it is situated.
Great place to read a book in the shade
Good place to have a beer
I don't like it people drinking there and fighting
We go there for the playground and we really like it.
A nice, quiet place to be alone with your thoughts.
Love watching kids playing. Love having benches along the walkways, some in the shade, some under the sun. On the other side, we see the street, the passerby, the cars, the Tim Horton, the Tea House and the Beer Store. It is the best relaxing park around my place. I love it. Thank you to the city.
Dog friendly, children's area, good location
The great park lots of kids and assortment of people I grew up there
This park is beautifully situated with a fairly new play area for kids, picnic tables to sit and enjoy a nice meal or benches to chat with friends. The issue is that there is a beer store right across the street and some low income housing not too far away which lends to some unsavory types frequenting the park on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, the par is afterall for everyone's enjoyment but it is at times overrun with drunks that litter the area with their empties or make it hard to enjoy with their obnoxious behavior. Used to be alot worse when needle/drug users would also use the park to shoot up but it seems that crowd has moved into the core now. All in all, good park if you can avoid the drama.
A great place to hang out.
great playground, place to ride a bike or have a picnic lunch with a Tim's and all the shops of Chinatown nearby
Such a cute gate entrance with the beautiful bird silhouettes
The park is okay, has a playground but it is a bit dirty
This park has lots of potential if the police would do something about the drug addicts using it 24/7
Beautiful park. Wayyy to many addicts and homeless ppl
This is what happens when you get on a bike path. All of a sudden you're somewhere that you didn't know you were. And then you get to spend the rest of the day talking about how beautiful it was
Very beautiful park, family oriented during daylight. When dark out however, avoid this park. Shady characters occupy the benches. Drugs and alcohol issues abound.
Took my son here. I think it was his favorite park we've visited so far.
A fun and very relaxed place
Some nice park however there's a lot of drinking and smoking there a lot of homeless people hang up there as well so nice park though
Definitely don't bring your kids to this park. Very sketchy especially at night,
The good: nice benches & play structure. Occasionally shows outdoor movies in the summer. The not so good: be ready for panhandlers, sketchy folks, drunks & the odd pop-up meth lab. (Not an exaggeration.) But if you want some sunshine & to watch an intoxicated lady rolling in the dirt screaming at passing people that she'll get up when she darn well wants to.... at 11am on a Monday... this just be your new favourite hangout!
The park is great for bringing your kids to play
I always take my kid to play on this park, it's always full of other kids for him to play with, and the facility is well maintained.
Nice playground for little ones, but park was loaded with degenerates drinking and carrying on in the courtyard. Apparently this is pretty common. Known to the locals as "Crackhead park."
Nice park, they have movie nights in the summer time. Good scene
Usually quiet park, nice in the spring and summer. Plenty of trees and flowers around the benches, and nice grass areas. Includes a modest play area for kids. Can be some sketchy individuals in the park from time to time but it's not bad for a Sunday hangout.
I used always to enjoy sitting in this park , it’s just a lovely place to sit down have a coffee or read a magazine . Always nice people around this park and it has Tim Hortons and LCBO beside it !
