Campsites weren't that big but were still good. Washrooms were clean and kept in good shape. The beach is great and even has a place to play volleyball. Shops are nearby like Giant Tiger. It is even close to Casino Rama. The only complaint though were the mosquitoes. Many of them were found, and some were even HUGE. If you're not a fan of mosquitoes, than I suggest for you not to go here. You get bitten so many times that it may be painful for up to three weeks.

I frequently visit Mara to camp during the summer and I love it! The park is fairly small which I enjoy as there is not much noise. The beach is very big as well. There is also a considerable amount of mosquito so don’t forget bug spray!

I was there over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised of how clean the beach water was even though it was a bit chilly! The park itself is clean well maintained. Oarking is a bit of an issue and road way to get in and out should be more visible. All and all will definitely be going back all summer!!

As Seniors we enjoyed the quiet nights. We shared a laugh. Canada Day weekend, family camp, school just out . Babies and children galore. Good that the children woke the campers instead of two seniors might add early risers with their calm quiet dogs. And whistle kettle. Which we , each time caught before the whistle. Staff are great .

Great place, gets full fast. Once they're at capacity they will not allow anyone in even if others leave, which doesn't make much sense. Decent and clean bathrooms. Get there early!

Very common and plain Canadian park. Nice beach, many picnic tables and forest. Would be great in the summer but only a few parking spots outside of the closed gate in this current covid season. Not worth much even the free day using.

During the hot summer days, the canopy of trees can be a welcome relief from the heat. We wished the campsites had more grass areas and less dirt. The beach was not easily accessed from the camping area, and far too crowded to really enjoy. Also, no camp store in the park, so if you need something, you'll have to drive into Orillia.

Nice little provincial park. We walked in from the front gate due to the park still being closed (off season). Some sites seem really nice, some are very open, the beach looks nice, but visited while the ice was still on the lake so cannot comment on water quality mid summer. We did not stay overnight or use any facilities.

I'm only going to give it 3 stars because I was here yesterday and a lot of mosquitoes were bitten me terrible I'm not happy I still had a good time swimming in the water but the mosquitoes roughed the rest of the time but it was a good beach still a lot of white Asian and Spanish people come here but if you have kids be very careful with the mosquitoes because they are really going to bite you

We canoed from Narrows Canoe & Kayak Co to Mara beach located in this park. The beach is nice, clean crystal clear water, fairly warm water temperature on a late summer day, very shallow - about waist level 100m into the lake.

We took a picnic and spent a nice few hours by the water. After all the restrictions we are enjoying visiting our beautiful parks. One a week. The beach was crowded but people were distancing with space to spare. Clean park and beach. Toilet facilities could have benefitted from a clean.

I stayed at Mara Provincial Park last weekend. We were at a campsite near the end of the park that does a loop. We had 2 secluded campsites for 8 people. Park Wardens were friendly. The beach is huge and busy during the weekends. Would recommend 10/10.

A small park for camping. Pros: - Good beach of decent size. - Big swimming area on the beach. - No fear of Bears. - Modern and clean Washrooms. Cons: - Lots of mosquitos, 24 hours a day. Don't forget to bring mosquito repellent cream. - No store in the park. But city isn't far away. - No bike trails. - Too crowded on Saturdays. One bad personal experience: one of the park guard selectively stopped me from unloading cooler and other usual stuff at the beach and asked me to move on. I would be ok, if he had done it for every one, but people before and after me did the same thing uninterrupted. I confronted him, then he said he didn't noticed others... Really???

Just outside of Orillia, very wide and deep beach, with a shallow swimming area too. Great place for a day at the beach, or spending a quiet summer afternoon. If you plan on going on the weekend, make sure you get in early, the day use area fills in quickly

Far from downtown Toronto but one of the best place to enjoy with family and friends. Big parking and beach area to do something. You can easily unload your stuffs from ur vehicle and move to your place through shortcut way beside washroom. First find a spot and then start bring stuffs. Kids won’t return home from Mara. Pet friendly and washroom r not bad and not that much good. At beach side they setup volley ball court but u have to bring ball. Entrance parking you have to pay for vehicle not people.

Not much to do here except the beach. The beach is really fantastic though, clear water, little to no rocks and the temperature is just right. The campsites however offer zero privacy, and the wardens don’t do anything about loud noises in the morning, so be prepared to be up very early if you’re spending the night. And the mosquitos are horrible

Mara is such a beautiful and easy to get to Park. The beach is always groomed, the water is clean and sandy. Maybe a few rocks at the beginning, but mostly sand. Great views of the lake and enjoyable!

Absolutely horrible experience with the gate staff today, that will always swing my negative perception of this park unfortunately. We are currently without our own truck to pull our travel trailer and are camping locally (we live in Orillia) so that we can utilize a family members truck to take in and take out our trailer for a couple of weekends worth of camping. Firstly, I get why they want to charge a vehicle fee to allow the truck to come into the park to pickup the trailer. There are just too many folks likely cheating the system. But to only all 30 minutes time to get to the site, hook up a large travel trailer, ensure everything is safe and packed away, check the lights, head to the dump station, wait for the vehicle in front to finish first, then dump the grey and black tanks, tuck everything back away, spray down the area, and get back to the main gate...all within 38 minutes, just to be told that we went over our 30 minute grace period and that the $15 charge would not be refunded...well... that is completely unacceptable service in my opinion. And a completely unrealistic rule for staff to follow. I'm unsure if I will ever return to this Park with a wonderful beach area for my kids to play, and that is unfortunate. Last weekend at a different Provincial Park, we had no issue whatsoever, and in fact there was no charge even discussed at the gate. If any Provincial staff would like to discuss this service with me, I'd be happy to do so.

This is by far the best beach we have been to just outside the GTA. There is lots of space on the beach to set up your beach tents, mats etc, there's a grassy lawn with picnic tables, a small playground area with some slides and fun stuff for the kids. Water is cool but lovely for those hot summer days. They have ample parking and washrooms not too far a walk from the beach. Now, the only issue I have ever had (this is the first I'm seeing this behaviour here) is people assuming it's alright to blast their loud music the whole afternoon. When spoken with (twice by the park rangers) they refused to comply and verbally harassed the two rangers. So, if you plan on visiting this beautiful place, please remember this is a park for everyone and you must respect others, and keep your bad habits (of insulting people) at home. And to the Mara Park Rangers, thank you for all that you do!!

Best beach at Lake Simcoe. Period! This beach is one of my favorite spots in Ontario! If you arrive early, you should manage to get a table where you can bbq and enjoy the day. The water is clear and shallow, with a determined perimeter for safety of swimmers. Amazing setup for the little ones!

Wonderful little gem of a park! We used it as an introduction to camping spot for our young kids since it wasn't that far from home. If things went south quick it wouldn't be much to pack and go home. Arrived in a downpour, but that wouldn't stop us. With camp set and the weather cleared, we set out to explore the park. Dampness aside, I was impressed with the facilities provided. Washrooms and showers were clean and tidy. Camp sites were fairly well kept and offered varying degrees of privacy. There is a small playground with a couple of swings near the entrance and visitor parking. The beach was like most that you will find in southern Ontario. Well groomed and generally clear of trash. Kids' playground at the beach kept my kids very entertained. Water was a bit cold when we went, but it was shallow and enjoyable to wade through. There isn't much to explore here, but it is a fairly quiet place to getaway to in the summer and enjoy some relaxing time on the beach.

A very nice place where you can find a big and vast beach with many trees around and a small river. They are all located beside the lake and beach area. The beach is totally shallow and very suitable for kids to play. The day we reached there, one of the park staff were busy to find metal pieces under the water with a metal detector for almost one or two hour. He started at 8am and did his job nonstop.

We didnt have a very good time. Mosquitos and flies were probably tbe main reason but also the dirty water and muddy beach contributed to this. The beach is wide but very small, less then a kilometer and is gated. I find this a shame in the kakes where most of the beach is taken by cottages and private owners with no access to public. With people going crazy to escape covid restrictions in Toronto, the place was overcrowded shut the entrance. A friend with kid who camd late had no chance to enter from the main gate so had to improvise. We carried some stuff from his car, parked near the fence and were stopped and interrogated by a guard and threatend to be fined. I do not think i will set foot here again.

Went there for a day trip. Excellent location and very clean. You can do BBQ there. Beach is small but very nice. $18 per vechile to enter and you can pay by card. Be early to get a good spot and bench. Definitely a good place for family picnic.

We have visited the beach at Mara Park a few times now. The beach is very clean and not busy at all on weekdays (haven't visited on a weekend yet). The only downfall (and it isn't a big enough deal to reduce my rating by even one star) is that the first couple of feet in the water is really rocky. We wore water shoes last time and had no problems whatsoever.

My family and I visited Mara Provincial Park for the day and it was a wonderful experience. The deep, wide sandy beach allowed for safe social distancing. The parking and public washrooms are close to the beach and easily accessible for the elderly or others with difficulty walking. While there, the washrooms were well maintained. There are plenty of trees and picnic tables along the shaded grassy ridge that separates the beach from the forest. I recommend bringing water shoes as there are a couple of rocks when you first enter the water, but nothing that you can't manage with ease even without the shoes. When we arrived the water was calm and warm. Then a storm went through Oro. As it traveled south across the lake, the winds picked up and so did the waves. This made for lots of laughter as the swimmers tried to ride the waves. The winds also brought the warm surface water and suddenly it felt like a tepid bath. The water is very shallow; basically waist height at its deepest point, but some swimmers crossed the buoys for deeper water. At $18 for a day pass, this park provided us with a full day of beach fun.

We found Mara Provincial Park by chance and we decided to pay a visit. I was surprised how the camping site in the park was clean. It is a very nice park with lots of old trees and absolutely amazing. The facilities were clean as well. We visited the beach too. It was a bit crowded and small but lovely. We will definitely go back.

I typically go camping here around once a year. It's a great time, nice to get away from the city and relax. I'm not a huge fan of public washrooms to begin with but considering the circumstances these aren't too bad. If it's raining a lot you can go to Casino Rama, we are pretty good with our tarps so there isn't much of an issue. It's a nice park and not too far from the city. There's a nice beach too.

Only visited the beach and not the camping ground. The beach is less crowded with clear/ clean water and a nice atmosphere for family. There is a small playground/ set for kids to ease their way into the beach or back to the car near the parking area. Please note that there is no life guard at the beach. It's a provincial park so it was about $18 for 6 adults and a child.

Drove to the park from Toronto,because on Google it was open, but at the entrance it was closed and the young person from the service even didn't let us use a washroom. We showed him a sign for disability! No reaction! It was almost 6 p.m/ and I don't believe it was still full . Those people like robots, not humans.

We came here to visit Sandy Beach and it was a wonderful time. With the right weather, it's a wonderful place to relax. There's a bathroom nearby if need be and two volleyball net posts if you happen to bring your own net. Although the beach may be relatively small in terms of total square footage, it was a relaxing and wonderful time.

What a great little Park!!! We discovered Mara after Covid cancelled our other reservations. Wanting to get away during the week we came across one hydro site left at Mara from Sunday - Thursday and snapped it up. Only one hour & 20 minutes away from home, made it a nice easy drive. Our site was huge and offered 75% privacy. Everyone was friendly at checkin as were the park rangers during our stay! The walk to the beach was about 10 minutes from our site and it is amazing. A little over busy on the Sunday due to day use but the rest of the week was perfect. A gradual sandy walkin and wade out is perfect for the little ones. There is one comfort station and it was kept spotless! The showers were up and running which surprised us. This Park is a hidden gem and we will definitely be back for a longer stay! Because of COVID travel restrictions we decided to enjoy Ontario's lakes and beaches. We spend one full day on Mara's beach. The park well maintained, clean, organized, people trying to keep safe distance between families. Sandy beach and clear water for swimming, what else do we need if we can't go to Caribean.

It was good camping trip, the park not that big but the customer service was good, they kept the washrooms and showers clean most of the time, we had camp site with power , these sites were on higher ground so they dried faster in the Rian, the sites without power were flooded and muddy for days after rain.

The beach was nice, some small stones 2ft into the water and goes on for a out 8 ft and then it's nice Sandy bottom. Water is clear the further you go in. Trace bits of seaweed but nothing major. Great experience, everyone keep their physical distance. And the beach was not overly crowded.

Very disappointed for a Provincial Park. We have a 32 foot trailer which was next to impossible to get into our site and we are experienced campers . The sites are close together and uneven. The flies and mosquitos are terrible. Grounds are well kept staff friendly nice beach.

It is a really nice park and the beach with lots of trees and a lot of space for kids to play sometimes in summer hot months they have a ban on open fires so if you are planning to have a charcoal BBQ make sure you call ahead and ask them if the ban is in effect you can still use your propane BBQ but not the charcoal one.

I use to like this Mara beach, today I saw so many people are do the dishes at the area that people wash a Sand out from their foot, I saw one by one bring a pot, a plates, to clean over there, they throw all the food on the ground, so duty. And I suprise no body come around to check at all. Usually I saw all the stuff come to check all the time and 3 car park at the handicap permit. Even though they don't have a permit to park there, this is not respect for people who need that parking at all. No police and stuff come to check ????????, I don't think next year we are going back

Terrible Experience - Discrimination from park staff On entrance, they said they only accept cash and I had to back after using ATM. Then what happened was that they said they did not have change when I pay with cash (50$). It was around 4 PM. How they allow others to get in the park? It totally does not make sense for it We came to realize staffs (one for office, other for park maintenance lady) did not want us to enter the park. It is obviously "discrimination" for some reason. Unless others prepare 18.00 cash, it is easy to be hurt and waste time. DO NOT GO THERE.

Don't camp here! The entire camping area is a swamp. There are tons of flies and mosquitoes at the campsites. At night, the bull frogs are so loud, it's impossible to fall asleep. Sap from the trees coats the tent and car with a sticky film. The beach is overcrowded on weekends.

Found this spot after doing a google search knowing I would be in the Orillia area. It’s a great spot if you are just looking for a nice quiet beach, some hiking trails or a campground. There is ample parking. The beach itself is large with nicely groomed sand for pleasant walking. It is not very deep in the roped in area for swimming so it’s great for kids. I deducted one star because of the washroom. They could do a better job of cleaning it and there were no paper towels and the hand dryer was not working. Also, Mara does not have a change room near the beach. Only the above mentioned washroom. But overall a nice place to visit at a reasonable cost; approximately $14 per vehicle for day use.

Xenophobic beach rules and swampy bug sites. The campgrounds while beautiful are very swampy, I was practically carried away by mosquitoes. Took our dog for a walk and was greeted by a provincial park ranger that within two minutes of reaching the beach were kicked off. Our dog was the silent well behaved dog he always is, but behaviour doesn't matter. NO DOGS ON THE SAND! Dogs are allowed on grass but not sand.its a little known fact that dogs make sand filthy - you know the stuff that's outside, dirt yeah it's sparkling clean unless a dog touches it. Let me tell you, my dog is cleaner than most of the sea lions basting themselves in toxic sun screen wallowing in their own juices. 0/10 would not return.

Provincial park for camping and day use. This park has a very large and well maintained beach for campers and day use people. 9f you like spending you days on the beach while camp, this is a great park for that. It's also very close to a Tim Hortons and the city of Orillia. Barrie is only 30 minutes by car. Not a park if you're into hiking. Strongly recommend buying local firewood around the area as what's provided is hit and miss. Don't bring firewood from home due to invasive species.

Nice campground to stay at or just get a day pass. Big beach with ample room even when the beach is jam packed in the summer time. The water off the beach remains shallow for a long time making it a great place for kids to swim. Has a covered area for people who reserve it during peak times of the year. It rained when we were their yesterday but we made the most of our day ! Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice family friendly campground.

I was skeptical about going to this beach but I'm glad I did. The beach is beautiful and the water is very clean. I read reviews saying you can't barbecue there but this is false. You can most definitely bbq as long as its a propane bbq. Due to fire hazards coal bbqs are not accepted. There are volleyball nets, so no need in bringing your own. If you go early you can grab picnic benches. I would definitely recommend this beach!

Beautiful park not to far from Toronto. The privacy is great with the exception of the pull through section. The park is not that large with a single comfort station that is in average condition. The site we were on was huge with decent privacy. The trees are also large and old which adds a nice feel. The dump station is new and well maintained...just make sure you don't drive off the edge. It has a large beach area for the kids to play with a gradual slope into the water. Great for young kids to swim. The day use area can get busy with families from the GTA. Over all it was a good little park.

It's clean and family orientated but it's full of mosquitoes!!!! If you enjoy being bitten by a million mosquitos it's the perfect place for you. If not DON'T go. Never going back .

Not much to do other then beach. Not many people following Covid policies. Wearing masks, number of people in a facility etc. Park itself was very clean and kept clean.

Large Beach access. Cute park on the beach for kids to play. Room to explore trails. This was a great sized day-tripping spot with toddlers. Public washrooms available during COVID. Lots of Canadian geese and consequently poop, so be mindful of that.
