Spent a week at sleeping giant and had a fantastic time! We stayed on a water front site 204. It is an electrical site with water just out front and clean vault toilet very close by. A quick walk to the beach and a bike ride to the comfort station and visitors center. The site was quite sloped for our trailer so we had to put leveling blocks under the rear tires and the tongue jack all the way to the bottom to get it level. Gorgeous sunsets and a so many hikes available that we didn't have time to do them all. We did the Sea Lion and Joe Creek Trail. Both short trails Joe Creek had a cool creek you can walk in but not the beautiful view of Lake Superior we were hoping for. We also drove out to the Thunder Bay look out which is a long and rough ride in and a bit steep at times but a very beautiful view if you aren't terrified of heights. We wanted to do the top of the Giant trail (the knees) but it was a long bike then hike in. We were told it would take us about 11 hours return trip. Maybe next time.
Amazing views at the end of Kabeyun trail!
Great place for hiking
Some nice hikes and look outs.
It's a long haul but worthwhile. SGPP is majestic! The trails are beautiful - it saddens me greatly to see so much garbage tossed aside. Please carry out your garbage to preserve this beauty.
Awesome lookout point. However, I highly recommend being prepared and doing your research for this hike. It is NOT EASY! and make sure you start the day early, it takes about 8 hours to finish it.
Great camping with outstanding views
There are so many trails and places to explore year round! Great camping (at the campsite and in the backwoods). Beautiful views. You can hike the trails leading to various beaches or to the top of the "Sleeping Giant". Many people bike in. We have gone snowshoeing to the "sealion" on Lake Superior.
It is beautiful in all seasons. You owe it to yourself to take a drive out to experience it.
Our favourite park on our summer park tour of Ontario. Amazing hiking and trails well maintained. Great campsites out on the point with minimal mosquitos. COVID cleaning is a bit of a joke tho, kids drive by on buggy and spray door handle of toilet without even getting out (and not cleaning the back which is most touched area).
Great views. Super buggy. The animals while cute were way too friendly.
Lovely park. Nice and quiet.
Really loving it here, my dog Thor and I climbed the giant, was not easy but worth the view. Lots of wildlife along the road. Staff is friendly. And with a waterfront site being able to fish while having my coffee. The only issue I have is to many people leaving their coolers out at night and nothing be said about it. Luckily the only thing that camp through the site at night was deer.
I only got to spend little time here as I was traveling through. Though the time spent here was just amazing. The park has much to offer and a lot of wildlife that as a photographer I loved! Not to mention the nature and the trails. There are tons of trails marked out with distances of all kinds. So you can choose how long you want to hike around and explore.
What a beautiful park
Such a beautiful place to go camping, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Gorgeous views.
Good hiking trails, well marked and easy to follow. Bike racks available at some trail heads. Trails can get busy, go early if you want a more quiet experience (we started at 7:00am and it was already busy as we were coming down around 10:00am).
Beautiful park, just went to take a look but the sites look great. I wouldn't hesitate to camp there.
Beautiful area, great trails and lots of wildlife!
Was a nice campground but the outhouses could use some paint. Beach is pretty far from most sites and that's why it didnt get a 5
More trails here then any other provincial park in ON. Be prepared for LONG hikes for best views. Camp site layout needs work, make sure u bring a LONG extension cord
A must of you live in Ontario. Or passing by. This mountain was amazing.
When you're at the top look around, the view is just wow, however be prepared to walk 6-7 kms stretch mostly flat boring road from parking to the top of the Giant junction. If you camp at the park you don't need a permit, if you just want to hike the goorge look out, the you need to buy permit at the park office, display in your car otherwise you might get fine. The road to the top is all up, especially the stairs, but don't give up it's not that long. I strongly suggest for experts biker to carry bikes for the flat stretch. After you decent it's worth to deep your tired feet at Tee harbor ( not the first one from the junction the second one). Oh on the way don't forget to visit Sea Lion while going not coming back.
Campground was good. Some sites are close together. The actual sleeping giant provides a cool view.
For a person that lives in a highly populated city this was a wonderful experience.
One of the most awesome treks I have done ! The 22km trail is completely worth it the views at the end are breathtaking.
Absolutely gorgeous, I need to get into good enough shape to do some of the longer trails though!! The very few pictures I took do not do it justice.
This place is straight up amazing!!! The campsites are fairly private, the beach is very nice. The hiking trails and things to do are all awesome! Signage for some trails could be better but it’s a minor detail. You have to stay here!!!
Great camping grounds with a Sandy beach. Hiking trails are nice too. The views are worth the trip!
I always do the sleeping giant loppet there. It is a GREAT race. I have never been there in the summer.
a very nice place to camp and hike. the 23 km hike to top of the Giant is definitely worth it.
The hike was long and tiring, but absolutely worth it! We had a great time and enjoyed back country camping at Tee Harbour and all the sights! However, while packing up at 12:30pm park employees came right into our campsite and started walking around, looking about - he asked if we were done here (check out is 2pm) and insisted that he had to cut down trees - that was annoying! Plus, for a huge park the gift shop was terrible and had nothing helpful or fun...
Love this park. Beautiful lake, nice and quiet.
Very nice, park with minimal bugs, the facilitates were clean despite covid. Privacy is minimal on the campsites.
Great place to camp, hike and bike. The campground was not too buggy and we did not need to used mosquito repellent in the evenings around the fire. However, on the trails you definitely need the spray. The trails are all quite good and are well marked, with some spectacular views. Be sure to bring plenty of water when you hike. Having bikes is a huge asset, as some if the trails link to those you can bike on and the bikes get you there so much faster. The Top of the Giant trail is so worth it. Be sure to go all the way to the gorge.
Exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth the drive and the hike.
Appeared to be quite clean and well maintained. Given the vast area the park covers it would be wise to get an idea of the sites one wants to see prior to visiting. An information booth at the entrance would be a big help in this respect.
Beautiful park! We stayed there for 3 nights but wish it had been more. There are so many great hiking trails and a lovely beach. The other campers were very friendly and you could easily explore on foot or by bike.
In the summer of 2021, free entry Monday through Thursday.
15 dollars to walk on a trail surely a money hungry park then to sleep one night 43 dollars. I could get a hotel for this so I left disgusted. To look at another bloody lake for 15 dollars. Then at oumet Canyon only two dollars to have a spectacular not to be missed walk with views of a Canyon. Ontario no wonder you are missing so many of us Alberta I paid $7.50 to sleep with a shower We pass through as quickly as possible to more economical travel
Very good view , challenging , hiking trails are good, long way in but well worth it
So much to see. So much to do. Our little slice of serenity an hour away from the city.
Very fun to see the views best I've seen but if u barely walk it will be hard to do.. WARNING becareful of the tall white flowers they are toxic stay in the middle of the trail when near
Great place to enjoy nature. Wonderful views
Exit off highway to sleeping giant is my favourite location. The beautifully landscape view of the bridge a few mountains and the trees with different textures are the best.
Had a great day hiking with family to T-Harbour and side trips to Silver Islet and the Thunder Bay Lookout.
Great place to camp with the family and grandkids..
Beautiful area, great hiking trails, and amazing view points. If you are going to be in the area I suggest checking it out.
We went to see the the sea lion , and it was a short hike from parking. The park is free day access from Monday to Thursday.
A bit out of the way but that's why you go there. Lake Marie Louise is a beautiful fun spot for swimming or fishing. Family fun for everyone.
Has all the amenities we wanted however of all the campsites we have visited this one has the most black flies and mosquitoes be sure to have more than just bug spray it's not enough
We stopped here during a roadtrip. Drove up to the thunder bay lookout and hiked the sea lion trail. The restrooms we came across were all outhouses. Spent a good few hours. Its definitely worth a stop if you have the time.
A very quite and peaceful campground great for tenters
Beautiful, until we meet again ❤️
Best campsite I've been to in Ontario
This place is huge and very high cliffs! Hikers haven! Beautiful place
Well maintained park with beautiful hiking trails.
Fantastic trails for hiking and cross country skiing. Great views of lake and Thunder Bay.
Definitely worth the climb. The view from the top is bucket list worthy.
I have been here twice. Wonderful hiking here albeit some hikes are challenging, the effort is worth it. I recommend trying to get a site by the water. The only thing to keep in mind here is distances to groceries and supplies. There is a small store about 20km out in Pass lake. It's also further than you think to the Trans Canada highway. From here there are a few local attractions to choose from and Thunder Bay is somewhat close.
This park is beautiful and a must see! If you’re in good shape and up for a challenge, take the Talus Lake trail the cuts across the peninsula. It’s secluded and beautiful. Went over Labor Day weekend, almost no bugs! Layers are a must, but weather was great. Superior is so clean, good for easy water harvesting. 10/10.
Cool hiking spot
Been here twice. The first time I underestimated the time it took to get up to the top of the giant so I had to rush back to the parking lot to avoid hiking in pitch dark, but gotta say the view up the top is well worth the trek if you are into hiking. It is not a easy hike tho, there were some steep section towards the top. I went back a few months ago in the winter. The lake ice was just breaking up off Lake Superior and pile up along the shore near the seal lion outlook. The ice wave along with the sunset was pretty awesome if you are into photography. Overall, it is a great place to hike if you are in the Thunder Bay area, and there are mountain bike trails in the park as well.
Absolutely gorgeous park. Hiked to the top of the Sleeping Giant, which was about 11 km from the parking lot and almost 1000 feet vertical climb. Absolutely breathtaking views. Mary Louise lake campground had lots of sites but they were packed very close together. I didn't camp but after seeing the campground I probably wouldn't want to.
We came to explore this incredibly scenic area and did some amazing hiking. The park is beautiful and has some really nice sites on the water. Our site was 61 (with electricity) our RV took up most of the space but gave us privacy from our close neighbours camp site and we had enough trees on the other side of our site to make it just private enough despite the sites location and size. We went to the amphitheatre to learn about astronomy one night and got to see some stars though a telescope on a projector. The visitors centre was neat. They have taxidermy of animals and information of plants found in the area as well as the Silver Islet mines. The bathrooms are fine and showers were warm. The water was not safe to drink at the time. We saw a deer in the campground and evidence of bear near the dumping stations /garbage disposal. Highly recommend camping here for the hikes and biking.
Great Easter in the park. Trails are a little icy on April 4th but that's to be expected.
Lots of hiking trails for any ability level. Beautiful scenery, clear dark skies at night for astronomy. Plenty of wildlife, nice campsites. Just bring plenty with you, it's a long drive out to get food or gas.
Campsite is beautiful lake is too, but a bit operated. I don't like the strict regulations and policies or the people that's like to snitch on you. I'll stick to camping in Manitoba. Ontario camping is over priced.
We were only day hiking and loved it. So many great trails. The camp ground looked great. We'll come back to camp
Beautiful camping, campground at Mary Louise can be a tad crowded even mid week. The animals here have OBVIOUSLY been benefiting from humans feeding them and are not scared of humans in the least. Ducks roaming my campsite for crumbs coming within a few feet and even a skunk that came right up within 6 inches of both my foot and my fire to steal a dropped piece of onion.
We planned on doing an easy hike along "sawyer trail" since we had a late start to our day (we drove from TBay at approx. 1pm). Once off the highway onto the 587 it's a pleasant winding road into the park. It's poorly indicated, but you have to stop by the visiting Center in order to purchase a day parking pass (~15$ - credit card ok). This can be missed as there's no "gate check / ticket stand" along the main road. We equipped ourselves with some free maps and then parked at the designated spot before beginning our adventure. And an adventure it was! After about 90 min of trails we got to "sawyer Bay" and enjoyed some beautiful landscapes we got tempted by the head trail which was quite close. Unfortunatelyhad to abandon the "head" path at approx half-way as it was quite steep and we wanted to return before sunset. On our way back we were delighted with sightings of 2 deers and a fox. We also spotted a young looking black bear cub ( equally exciting but less delightful) and had to wait it out before continuing our trek. Overall, we had a pretty strenuous workout but pretty great landscape and wildlife sights. Pay attention to the signs along the road in the park. Inform yourself about interactions with black bears. Water and snacks are essential.
Wow. Not only were there NO Sleeping Giants........ there were also none that were awake!! A little misleading I would say......
Nice campground at Marie Louise Lake. Visitor Centre includes interactive exhibits. Many trails of varying difficulty. We enjoyed hiking the Sea Lion trail.
August 2020. Amazing, highly and I mean you must do top of the giant. Nothing compares. I cannot wait to do it again. Tracked my hike with all trails app, took me 33km so prep for more only 8.5 hrs. Start early, you’ll love the cooler start. Thunder Bay lookout is breathtaking for sunsets as well. Plenty of wildlife, I saw a lot of deer and a handful on young foxes kept me entertained. Just don’t be that “guy” and feed wildlife!
Super intensive. Be prepared to climb up steep narrow hills. The journey from the lot to the top is like 5 hours. One way. ????
Great park, lots of trails and space for very few people. A couple of nice beaches too!
Great hiking trails and campground. We bought a day pass and hiked the Sea Lion trail. Then went into the visitors center and learn all about Silver Islet and the park and checked out the beach. Looks like good swimming at the beach on the inland lake. Just a heads-up, the shortest trail to any part of the actual sleeping giant mesa is 22km round trip (8 to 10 hours) with a steep climb up the actual mesa part. There are at least a dozen other trails to various lakes and along the shore that are shorter and easier. Day pass was $14.25 which we purchased at the campground enterance.
Beautiful place to camp and hike
Lakeside campsite was gorgeous. Decent space between sites for a car camping park.
Main reason for our stay here was to hike the giant! Out campsite was great and closed to the bathroom. The park also has laundry, $3/each for wash and dry What I didn’t know before coming here was that there is no cell phone service within the park, only at the beach area. It was nice to be off the grid for a couple of days.
Really good. Go here. Enjoy it. Hike, swim, eat a muffin, whatever.
Didn't meet my expectations. Maybe I had high expectations. But good for hiking. If you can visit Kekabeka Falls if you can.
Very nice park. Lots of places to walk and hike. Nice beach.
Amazing trails, views, and campsites. The secluded sites on the opposite side of the lake from the main campground are perfect (quiet, well separated, lake access, etc.)
Awesome trekking experience!!
Beautiful scenery with large beach. Tons of trails to explore. Daily planned activities for kids and adults.
Great site and lots of space for camping!
The woman at the front gate was super nice and very helpful. We really enjoyed our site as it was huge! Lots of room for us and our large dogs. The only thing is it was super busy with lots of people being pretty loud, but the park itself is great so it makes sense that it would be quite popular. Definitely would recommend!
Amazing park. Loved it. We are coming back on our way to Ottawa from BC and we asked for the same spot. Clean bathrooms. Even saw a large deer walk through our site at 1am!!
8hr hike to hike the giant. Well worth the hike for the views
Awesome hiking, great views. Rent a mountain bike to get to some trail heads more quickly.
A long drive culminating at mostly privatized beach. The place is best seen from a far off point. No need to waste your time travelling to the undeveloped park unless you are interested in hiking.
Beautiful views and excellent hiking.
I love camping here, good hiking trails, great interpretive centre, and a family friendly beach.
Beautiful park. Tons of trails with varying level of difficulty.
Very nice campgrounds and great hiking. Something to do for everyone!
Maria Louisa Lake is nice. Great view of Sleeping Giant. Silver Islet on the coast is gorgeous. Much of our campsite was gravel, perfect for parking an RV, not good for those who tent.
Very scenic park, lots of wildlife. Nice bathroom with showers.
Great area. Highly recommend the 6-8 hour round trip hike to the gorge, best view there. If possible, bike to the top of the giant trail to shave off a few hours.
Spent a great time swimming at Marie Louise Lake, then we went down to see the silver islet General store. Finished off with the thunder bay lookout, friendly and knowledgeable staff and all facilities were decent for outdoors. Saw so much wild life and was such a great way to spend the day with my family :)
They say the hardest hikes are always worth the best views. Boy, it was a tough climb to the top of the giant trail. Then again, I like to welcome a good challenge and push myself hard. Now, I'm officially pooped! Lol.
Excellent park, especially early or late in the season when you have the place to yourself. Hiking and biking, and Marie Louise lake is excellent for kayaking around. Many campsites are right on the water. (I have to believe that the people giving the park a 1 star rating are trying to keep it a secret.)
Wonderful quiet campsite. Beautiful lake side site with amazing sunsets.
????????
Spectacular landscape you didn't expect to see in Ontario! Hard to get to the top, but it worth it!
Spectacular views of the highest cliffs in Ontario
Beautiful park. Unbelievable hiking opportunities.
Love going for hikes here. Plan your trip, find trail maps. Middlebrun is a nice short hike where you can stop at a beach for a swim.
A must visited place in ThunderBay. It is the main attraction in tbay city.It will take upto 75km from the city. There is parking fee and if u are planning to camp, we have to lay for that at the park office. The parking tickets can be taken using the ticket machines. There are lot of trails which are very brautiful. Every trail description with maps and routes are provided in their website and also at the office. We can experince the hike which have a smaller distance of 4km to long distance like 25kms The beautiful view is always from the Head trail
Excellent example of old growth boreal forest in an easily accessible campground. Great for families and dayhikes, as well as interior camping.
Loved it! Beautiful park. Look out for the bears though. We had one in our campsite. We ate breakfast, and were just going to change in the tent before going to throw away our (maybe a 5-10 minute delay?) And a bear showed up in our site to go after the trash. Changed our mind about grilling lunch after that. :-)
The coolest, most unique park in Canada. Like BC but for cooler people. Lots of mosquitoes but if you're not a coward you can deal with it.
Awesome place for camping and spend time with your loved ones.
Great hiking trails.
Great place to go camping and hiking. Saw a lot of deer on the drive in. Warning though: the 300s campsites take a bit of an extra off-road drive to get to!
Awesome park. We really enjoyed the Sea Lion hike.
Great provincial park, inner lake, camping.
A clean and quiet area. The camp ground was full and it was calm. Great trails and views. There's a great lookout that extends out from the cliff about 20 feet. The last four feet is made with an infinity type view to the bottom.
Great view and beautiful. Camping at its finest. Good for canoeing and kayaking, which can be rented at the park. Good for fishing bass, perch and okay for pike, hardly any or no Walleye. Great staff.
Best place for good pictures..swimming...lot more
This was one of the most beautiful parks I've visited! Although I camped at kakabeka (also a wonderful park with AMAZING staff) I came to Sleeping giant to do *the hike* as well as a few smaller ones & the lookout. I enjoyed every single minute that I spent here and can't wait to come back & actually camp here in the future!
A good place to hike, camp and enjoy a breath taking scenery. We went there unprepared so we just had to go to the shortest trail (30 minutes) which is the way to the sea lion, and that place is awesome. The lake was clear and cold, and the view was worth it.
Well worth the drive. Quiet park with awesome hiking trails.
The views are breathtaking!! The park is clean and well maintained. We did the main trail to reach the top of the giant (approx. 8h). I would recommend you to really prepare your body for a hike like this one. I was not prepare (Im not a sports person), I didnt wear the proper shoes.. I was wearing normal sneakers and I hurt my feet really bad probably due to my flat feet... I have been more than a week recovering from the hike. Eventhough, it was just me the one who had problems doing this hike.. my husband didnt have any problem. After this experience, I really wont do it again.. no more hikes like this one for me ????
Long drive out but worth the drive
Amazing park with nature at it's best.
If you can do it then make sure go all the way to the top of the giant. Difficult but amazing trail. Especially towards the end.
Absolutely incredible views. So worth the climb
Sleeping Giant is a great place. There are great hiking opportunities and views of Lake Superior. The lake in the middle of the park has a nice swimming beach. Roads travel throughout the park, although some would benefit from a higher clearance vehicle. The main Campground is nice with lots of sites. There is also a smaller Campground with more rustic sites across the lake. Highly recommend a visit to this park.
Go if you like to camp 10ft from the next group. Ridiculous camping sites in what could be a wilderness area. The rest of the park is gorgeous.
Great sights. Top of the head trail is pretty difficult for a nice view. Does not, however, beat the view from the top of the giant trail, in my opinion.
Beautiful park. Note that the campground is about 30 minutes off of the main highway. We stayed in the campsites on the west side of the lake. They're more private and scenic, but require a 10 minute drive on dirt roads in and out. The hiking is incredible.
Lots of great adventure to be done!!! Overall 10/10!!!
Completely loved my experience here. We will definitely be going back!
The drive to the park from highway has amazing views. Amazing park. Lucky to spot cute Red Fox and Deer. The staffs are friendly and very helpful. Make sure you give enough time. As we went quite late could not complete the trail, as it was getting dark on a cloudy rainy day. In next trip will start early and spend a day at least.
The park offers many activities to do and its pretty huge. Some of the trails are so long that you need whole day to just reach the final spot. The wild life can be seen while you're passing through multiple point of interest - on road and off road. There are variety of things to explore at this unique park.
Spectacular location in Mother Nature’s cradle. Fantastic camping grounds. Awesome tourist friendly location with great staff. Make sure you carry bug and mosquito repellent, fluids, and a GPS navigation device, since there’s no cellphone within 20kms of the park, and thus your phone’s GPS might not work. Also mark and know where the phones are, since without cellphone reception, you can’t call for help. If you have handheld radios or walkie-talkies, bring them along. Enjoy and cherish Mother Nature at her greatest!
Nice trails and views.
Love love love that park! Would recommend but! Bring anti mosquitos!
Absolutely gorgeous.. I was here in autumn.. would love to see it during summer!
Holy. I could not say enough great things about Sleeping Giant Privincial Park. Like most other parks in Ontario brother nature does not disappoint. Lots of hikes to do ranging from a couple hours to a couple days. Be warned that when a hike is marked as a black diamond, they mean it! the hike to the top of the head of the sleeping giant was gruelling, but my god was it worth it. strongly recommend.
Loved the park and the hike I did within it. From the top there is great views of the lake
There are some beautiful camping sites here, but you'll need to book way ahead to get them. A nice beach with a good playground. Clean and modern bathrooms and showers and laundry as well (laundry is $3). Many hiking trails in the park, some can be biked with a mountain bike. Sea Lion Trail is very nice and short.
Excellent spot for day hikes and scenic views, cherry on top you can catch the sunset✌????
Beautiful natural trails, beautiful vista's, never the same 2x in a row!
We have a gem among us! Been living here for over 18 years and finally hiked the giant! Will do it again for sure.
Cool park but pricey even for just day use but thats most of Ontario for whàtever reason the rest of Canada the provincial parks are free or very little for day use and way cheaper for overnight
I always stop here every time I drive across Canada, it's one of my favourite parks to stay in. I always end up seeing wildlife such as skunks, grey foxes and usually deer also. Great place!
Lovely campground...beautiful lake, clean facilities.
Amazing place. We were greeted to our camp site by a family of ducks and a deer that walked on through. There are a lot of trails in the area. Recommend the Sea Lion and if you are up for it the top of the Giant, although be prepared, and set the day aside for it, well worth it. Look forward to going again
We've enjoyed two nights in the camping, by Marie Louise Lake. First night was very windy, couldn't even enjoy a fire. Second night was awesome. Clear skies and a clear view of the sleeping giant. We took the Sea Lion and Kabeyun trail. We went all the way to the bird observatory and from there to Sawyer Bay and back to parking. I wish the trail was a bit more marked. Although there is no other trail, there were a few places where we got confused. Overall, a great experience. Looking forward to get the Talus Lake and the top of the giant trails
The pictures say it all. Very impressive park. Make sure wearing long sleeve or otherwise pack plenty of bug spray
Great place to stay and go hiking
this place is just just so breath taking. lots of hikes trails, and a long bike trail.
Beautiful beautiful spot. Only traversed a few trails, didn't stay as long as we would have liked. But it was gorgeous from what we saw!! Top of the Giant is amazing (but difficult. Bike the flat part!)
If You love to hike. This is the place for You. There are all levels of difficulty trails to follow.
Quite and peaceful place. I felt connected to nature. Amazing place to hike and spend time with family. You can see foxes and deer walking the side of road.
Georgous park ! Spent 2 days and would definitely go back and spend a week.
Beautiful, clean and quiet park for camping with so many things to do from swimming to hiking and leaning new things
Great place for hiking with lots of trails to choose from. The scenery is amazing.
Wish I could stay longer. It's a beautiful and quiet park for a escape
Beautiful, large and well maintained park. The 300's are super secluded and perfect for a getaway. The trails are beautiful and plenty of wildlife. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful with everything! Worth every second of the trip.
This is a fabulous spot with so much to do. There are scenic drives. We absolutely loved Silver Islet. They are working on restoring the general store. There are great hikes for all levels. There are deer everywhere. The sites are a good size. The beach is stunning too. You can't go wrong here. The long drive in is worth it.
Love this park!
A beautiful place to spend a weekend at. That is, of course, if you're into Nature. Well maintained trails, camp grounds and lakes. Just a beautiful experience overall.
Wonderful, well-run park. Campground is kept neat and the bathrooms were clean. The trails were easy to find and the views were beautiful. Nice playgrounds at the beach.
Very beautiful. Quite busy with a lot of people backcountry camping. If you are hiking The Feet... Be warned that it is very difficult and climbers should be good physical shape. A lot of boulders and a steep almost 90 degree hike up the feet. Get there early if you want a backcountry site as they fill up fast :)
Wonderful for family adventures ????
Absolutely stunning, spent a few days backpacking and camping, would highly recommend
Beautiful provincial park. Sea lion and thunder bay look out are a must-see
If you're looking for a place to relax, hike, take the kids to, camp and so much more.... You don't need to look any further.
Loved this place! Hikes were unreal. We did two outlooks in 1 day (32.5 km) and it was amazing. The climb is worth the views. Just magical. Make sure to bring good shoes, snacks and water. Lots of places to camp, almost no service but beautiful nature, lakes to swim in and crystal clear water. Also great fishing. Will be back for sure. Worth a drive from GTA.
If you want to hike through miles and miles, kilometers and kilometers of random forest with no views and get eaten alive by mosquitos, this is the place for you.
Awesome place for camping, hiking and site seeing.
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is one of Ontario's most beautiful provincial parks with numerous trails, lookouts and campgrounds. You should certainly explore the iconic Sea Lion Trail as well as the stunning Thunder Bay Lookout.
A nice park, tho over priced for amount of traffic they get. Groomed trails are easy to hike, Signs every where. you will see wild life like deer, birds and maybe the odd bear.
Amazing hikes and views of Lake superior and Thunder Bay.
Great place to visit.
I have my passport ready and hope to have a positive experience visiting Sleeping Giant Provincial Park on November 3rd the 307th day of the year and April 23rd the 113 day of the year. I Mention these to dates for a reason putting emphasis on the two letters M and E as well as all anodes of two. (ie: 2 @ two to ot toot otto + alter spout points of a RAcK, KAR, ARK, KRA and ME initials R.A.K.) The time is 11:03 AM and there is a children's pop-up book I am crafting while inside Dad's Amerigo Pop-Up camper, with a Crayola and Kraft food package - IT is a surveyed anthropomorphic asterism K-spout carafe with the handle "MERAK". The object orient device I speak of has a flared lip for pouring. You can see IT on the Big Dipper and locate it with the Right Ascension coordinates of 11h 3m. Rich
Had to pay $15 to get in for the day pass. That was a little disappointing as there was not much amenities for that cost. We went to the beach which was very rocky and messy. The beach could be grated or something so the sand is all that remains.
Epically beautiful hikes that can take you all day or even a few days if you would like
GREAT PLACE TO STAY/ CAMP CLEAN WELL LOOKED AFTER
Lake mary louise is a peice of heaven on earth. Provincial campgrounds are amazing
Love the park! It is quite a ways off highway but worth the drive! :)
Beautiful place. Amazing views. Wildlife. Pour service ????. You can relax and admire the nature and its Creator. ❤
Nice views along the lake. Most of the trails are easy and but some small sections are hard.
I had an amazing time here. This has to go down as one of my favorite all time provincial parks, due to what the park has to offer. This park has everything amazing hiking trails, a couple mountain bike trails and a beautiful beach on Marie Louise lake. This park needs to go on your bucket list due to how amazing it is
2.5 hours of hike is worth it when you see the view
An amazing park! Signage leaves a little bit to be desired as we had a bit of trouble finding the visitor center as it is hidden in the back of the campground. We hiked the short trail to the sea lion. It is a great place to get away from it all. Also be sure to keep going down the road to Silver Islet and stop at the gift shop.
Vast provincial park. Take your full day of to cover a small percentage of the park.
Beautiful park. For the May long weekend someone of the trails weren't cleaned up of fallen trees yet, which actually added to our experience of nature. Rangers were extremely helpful. Plenty of deer around. Camping sites had very little privacy. No phone signals.
So beautiful. A drive but worth it!
This is honestly one of the most beautiful provincial parks in Ontario. Actually one of the nicest parks I’ve ever been to, and I’m saying this after going to Banff and Jasper. This is truly an awesome spot. There’s lots of hiking you can do, a gorgeous lake for swimming and water activities and lots of campsites. I can’t recommend this park enough. I will be back (hopefully later this year) to do more hiking.
Amazing. Highly recommend to anyone. Beautiful park.
A little out of the way, but a great place to camp and hike. Just be ready for noisy morons on the campgrounds.
Beautiful park! We wish we had gotten to the park sooner to allow for more time to hike. Next time we will bring bikes for part of the trail and then hike the rest. We didn't make it to the top as ran out of time which was a bummer. Make sure to pack some food and drinks with if you plan to hike the distance!
Gorgeous park, peaceful place to canoe and kayak!
Amazing trails views wildlife atmosphere privacy beach area
Amazing parks, falls, lake superior and trails!!
Sleeping giant is a hidden gem for hikers, mountain bikers, and all outdoor enthusiasts. Breathtaking views, massive cliffs, and quiet shores await you here, do yourself a favor and plan a trip ASAP!
Great park! More strict than usual wardens
There's lots of good hiking here. The camp sites are nice. Except for the skunks recently. They were pretty friendly when we were there. Didn't spray, but who wants to take that chance? The beach is great. Probably one of the best parts of the park.
Great views from the gorge! A long and strenuous hike, but well worth it. I would advise against the North Bakeyun trail as it turns very rocky further in and the trail is much harder to keep on. As soon as you come down from the giant trail, head back the same way you came from.
Beautiful park lots of wildlife and scenic views.
I come here twice a year and hike and camp in the interior with my dog. We both love it. Last spring my dog and I hiked all along the Kaybeun Trail from Thunder bay lookout to and around the Giant to south end trailhead. Spent 11 days out there
The park was so gorgeous with virgin nature. Some parts of the trail looked like Lost series and I couldn't believe my eyes of the sleeping beauty. The trail to head took 7 hours in total and it really worth it.
A lifetime experience. I was excited and thrilled as I saw the view of Lake Superior from top of the giant ????????. A must go place in Canada.
My class went out there for a over night trip and we had a great time on all the hiking trails and on the beach
A breathtaking getaway place! It’s worth the long drive and long walk.
BEAUTIFUL. Amazing hiking trails and vistas all across the park.
The campsites were amazing! Views gorgeous. Super kind park staff. If you're hiking talus lake, don't plan on using those campsites though unless you plan on being eaten alive by bugs / there isn't really a flat space for a tent.
Great way to spend the day. Great hikes and beautiful scenery.
Amazing park! We didn't hike all way to the look put just to tea harbor. The trails are in really nice condition and if you are making the push to the top they are multi purpose so you can bring a bike. Views of superior are incredible with water that almost looks tropical. Take a trip to the gaint you won't regret it!
I would give even more stars if I could. It's a must see. The hiking trails are not easy but they worth the effort. The Top and the Head trails are the best. Plan one day for each. The camping sites are great, the washrooms and showers are clean. You'll have hot water and washing machines. The nice little Visitor's Centre also worth a visit and you can rent bikes and canoes. Closest store at Pass Lake (15 minutes).
Hiked Top of the Giant trail. Wonderful day hike, 22 km, 550m total elevation. Take water.
Beautiful Park, and so much hiking opportunities.
Stayed here in August and the park was packed but everyone kept respectfully quiet. Unfortunately they had barely any showers operational.
Not to far from Thunder Bay. Excellent hiking trails.
Nice clean well maintained campground, very quiet but we were there early October. The Top of the Giant hike was incredible - a must see. We got there just after 4 pm and there was nobody around to sell us firewood which was inconvenient.
Natural wonder here in Northwest Ontario. Many Native tales surrounding this beautiful piece of glacial carved stone. Surrounded by Lake Superior the Sleeping Giant rests and only changes with the colours of the seasons.
Well maintained even in off-season. One of the best places to visit.
One of the best provincial parks I've visited. The campsite we booked was nicely raked and super clean. The campground was designed well will lots of buffer between each site making for nice privacy. The comfort station could use updating in Marie Louise campground and a bit more attention to the ceilings of the showers. We backpacked in and found the most epic Backcountry Campsite for 2 nights. (Inquire at the Gatehouse for more info on Backcountry Camping) View of the Sleeping Giant with sunset over it and private beach. The hiking trails are maintained to a high level. This impressed me the most. It's hard to coordinate staff and time to get out on every trail so kudos to everyone responsible for this. It's not easy and you have done a spectacular job. The Sleeping Giant lookouts speak for themselves. Possibly the most beautiful views I've seen in all of Ontario. A must-see! The trail up the Giant is difficult but worth the effort!!!!
Gorgeous and the trails were well groomed
Beautiful!
Amazing experience!!! Little rivers on your path will start showing out of nowhere!! Beautiful!!
Not easy but worthwhile. Bears. Hope to be back one day.
Great hiking trails particularly the one leading to the top of the Giant. Staff at the park were friendly and courteous. Lots of wildlife to see in and around the park. Will definitely be going back.
This is an incredible place!
Very beautiful place. I couldn't believe that many people don't know about this place. It's a natural environment classified park and it's amazing. Clean facilities. Great for families. Great for hiking, biking, walking. Friendly staff. 10 out of 10
Great hike with a nice beach
Park that is renowned for a series of mesas which from afar, make it look like there is a giant sleeping on its back (best seen from the Terry Fox monument, in Thunder Bay however). Park has ample parking on site for day hikes, and you can book online to reserve a camping site. We camped in site 314 which while taking a bit further to get to, was a great experience because it gave a "back country" experience while being able to drive up to it. Some of the staff are not as knowledgeable as others (given that most are hired for the summer season), but they give quality advice on the park. Highlights included the "Thunder Bay lookout" road, which is only accessible by driving through a tough road. Pays off as you can get some truly incredible views of the surrounding area, and it's a fun yet challenging drive
Fun and Challenging trails of all lengths. Super fun!
Hiking to the top of the giant is a must. I showed up here with a friend on a road trip with almost no searching beforehand- only enough to check there was a campground, and we were blown away by this park. A ranger told us we probably wanted to take the top of the giant trail and he was right. It is over 22 km total, but very worth it if you have the physical ability to walk that long combined with climbing up and down about 300 m of elevation
Peaceful place, nice view and beach, and fantastic place to camp.
Great place to camp for families, couples, and solo travellers! Best sites are the ones on the water they are the most private! Beach is massive and great to swim. Loved all the hiking trails!
One of my top 3 provincial parks. Extremely clean and well-maintained park. Beautiful views and trails. Anyone in the vacinity should take advantage and spend a day here, you'll have zero regrets.
Words cannot simply describe the beauty of this park. Whether you camp here or not, it's worth visiting for the day. Plenty of hiking trails with varying difficulty. Bring plenty of snacks and water when going on the lengthy trails. The difficult trails have the best views at the top. I went to the Top Of The Giant trail and while it was difficult as mentioned, it was very much worth the climb.
HUGE park with lots of campsites, all of which seemed quite nice in terms of privacy and shelter. Very quite all around, no blaring music or parties that we could hear. A quick and simple hike to check out Sea Lion outlook, and the drive to the Thunder Bay Outlook were both great additions to our trip. We also drove around the Silver Islet cabin community for sight-seeing, which was very cool!
I used to love this park, both the Marie Louise Lake camp grounds, and the back country spots. Unfortunately, in recent years the Marie Louise Lake camp ground has essentially become a party place for the youth of Thunder Bay and surrounding area. I do not recommend trying to sleep there, or to bring children there at night. The staff no longer care and or have the resources to control the drunks. Expect all night parties, screaming, fighting, liquor bottles all over in the morning. Stick to the back country sites, hiking, day passes etc. Beautiful place, terrible management and operation.
Hidden gem! I highly suggest backpacking through this area. It is very manageable and many great sites!
This is a beautiful park! Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to do the top of the giant trail, which I hear is incredible. The seal lion trail was gorgeous and definitely worth the rocky hike to get there. I would recommend good shoes as there is a bit of climbing up larger rocks involved. There seemed to be lots of kids on the trail which I would not suggest since the trail is definitely moderate to difficult, and families with young kids seemed to be struggling. Overall amazing views!
Family friendly park. Smaller beach area
Nice large site, very clean and well maintained park, very pretty area
Absolutely beautiful landscape, hard to believe this is in Ontatio. Seems like a tropical paradise
Views are awesome, visitor services/wayfinding need to be more clear
Ok nobody told me I had to hike 24km to take this picture. I did it lol
Gorgeous scenery, endless amounts of fun for the whole family
My wife and I are avid hikers and really enjoyed the challenging hikes at Sleeping Giant. There are so many trails and hiking possibilities that the park could keep you busy for days. The views are varied and breathtaking while the hikes range from easy to quite challenging, with plenty of paths to choose from. We did not camp in the park so cannot speak to the quality of the campsites but for hiking, we were very impressed with the variety of landscapes we got to see. Lakes, streams, boulder fields, forests, prairies; Sleeping Giant is never boring, which is nice when you're worn out from a 20km hike and still have some distance to go. Be warned: When the trails map says a trail is "rugged" the term is not being used lightly.
Great hiking experience and outing for groups.
Great park with wildlife and hiking trails but it's use is limited in the winter.
Absolutely love it entire park. Amazing views, great trails to walk with kids too
Amazing natural beauty, trails and backcountry campsites!
Grate backpacking trails and lookouts.
Beautiful spot. Rangers werent around our area very often. Some campers were quite loud into the early hrs of the morning.
We started our trek pretty late and hence couldn't reach at the top. We completed The Lehtinen Bay and OMG it is sooo beautiful! Can't get over it. There are so many lakes, camping points and hiking places that one trip is not enough
Beautiful park with various hike options I did Sawyer Bay trail followed by Head trail as well as Sea Lion trail. Sawyer Bay trail is a series of rolling hills with mostly boring forest views until you get to the end, where you can see the lake. Head trail, however, was very exciting being the steepest trail at the park. Definitely challenging - especially coming downhill - but well worth it with an amazing view at the top of the giant’s head. Sea Lion trail was quick with nice information panels. I car camped at the sawyer bay trailhead parking lot and got a parking ticket. Make sure to register your plate!
Same park it was 20 years ago be nice if they put some money into it
This prov park is by far one of the top ones in the prov. Beautiful scenery. Fantastic trails to hike for all some very nice lakes to fish and swim in. We habe been twice in the last couple of yrs amd will most likely be back.
Great hiking experiences. An incredible place to explore
Loved seeing all the wildlife, good clean park. The only thing I would have asked for is better trail markings and distance. Overall best ontario park I have been too ❤
Campsite was big, clean and had some privacy. Lots of great hikes to do in the park. We did the hike to the top of the giant and the views were incredible, would definitely recommend doing the hike if you have time (it is long - about 22 km - so make sure you are prepared).
Highly recommend the day hike to the top of the giant. Make sure you keep going past the peak for some amazing views.
Lots of trails to hike, but roads could be marked a little better
Would recommend! - Fitbit said 27km to the top and back on the main trail - do NOT recommend when it has rained. Today the puddles were more than ankle deep! It’s all the rain from the last few days - pretty moderate hike; mostly flat with 1-3km uphill one way. Not too bad though if you power through - Parking is $15 for the day - AMAZING view from the top. Just mind blowing ????
A big beautiful park, with a variety of hiking trails (difficult, moderate, easy) and a large lake for swimming. Perfect for a device free stay, as there isn't many places in the park with cell service. 10/10 would recommend :)
Nice rest stop
Lots of trails and opportunities for adventure. Be sure to check out the bird observatory if it's the right season!
Lovely campgrounds saw plenty of shooting stars in that nice clear dark sky. Also there were tons of foxes everywhere it was crazy
I was on a tour to experience Lake Superior and although the lookout was interesting there is very little big lake access.
Haven’t been in a few years, but this was one of my favorite places to camp and hike in Ontario. There is a lake by the campground that is perfect for paddling—so smooth—and trails and campground were well-maintained. The view from the top of the Giant is worth every step!
Roughly 15 hr drive from Toronto, but definitely worth it. The hike to top of the giant will take roughly 6 hrs round trip(walking), but the view is just simply amazing. Rent a bike at the visitor centre!!! The first part (6km, 12km round trip is what kills you), but you can avoid that by renting a bike and will save you at least 2 hrs.
Clean, well maintained, beautiful and a wonderful place to camp or spend a day swimming or hiking
Staff were friendly and helpful. Showers and bathrooms we clean. Park was well maintained. Lots of wildlife. Will definately make the trek back up
Breathtaking views from the top of the Giant and along the park trails. Definitely a place to return to!
Great campground, spent a night and wish we could have spent more. Great hiking, awesome view of the sleeping giant from the beach, stayed at site 114 and had stairs right down from behind our spot, great location.
Great park, miles and miles of lush trails. The lake shores are pristine. There’s surprising finds at the end of each trail, but always options to keep going if you like. You won’t regret visiting this park!
Nice variety of trails but very confusing maps with no legends on them otherwise I would rate it 4, mary Louise lake is nice to kayak in with a cosy beach , no wifi and very limited network access in the park
Very rugged large park on the north hire of Lake Superior. Very busy and sites not very private but the beauty of the area makes up for any camping dhirtfalls
Great park for hiking and there's one trail that is a dog off leash trail, my two springersoved it
Great hiking spot with multiple trails. Did the car ride to the Thunder Bay lookout. Although it was cloudy still a great view. The road is bumpy so take your time. The Park store had no water or vending machines so bring extra Stop at the Flying J gas station on your way into the park. Sea lion trail is nice and relatively easy to the the top.
Stay was good everything very clean and staff are helpful only thing they should have more programs and activities for kids through out the summer!
Beautiful campground. Lake side camp sites are great!
The sheer size and beauty of this park is enough to draw you in, but the spectacular view of Thunder Bay and the Sleeping Giant from the Superior Lookout are just breathtaking!
It's great to hear the loons at night and quite peaceful.
This park is stunning and tranquil. Make sure you visit the Thunder Bay lookout point, breathtaking.
Great drive and the views were fantastic
The hike is a bit deceiving. It starts off relatively flat and it's only in the last couple of kms that you start the real climb and it feels like you're doing a hike in the Rockies.
The staff and location are wonderful. Many hikes to go on and a beautiful beach. NOW MANAGMENT YOU HAVE 2 PROBLEMS. 1. How do we keep that little receipt on our dash to prove we paid, please provide tape so we can keep it on the window. 2. SO YOU DON'T WANT US TO BRING WOOD THEN PROVIDE DRY WOOD FOR US TO BUY!!! THE WOOD WAS HORRIBLE AND AS A PERSON WHO COOKS OVER A OPEN FIRE THIS WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE TO COOK HERE. It took 2 hours to cook supper from ignition to table when it usually takes me 30 min.
It's a nice park but very dusty since it's very dry in northern Ontario currently. There is a fire ban in effect currently which I wish I knew about prior to booking since campfires make the camping experience better. Also there is NO SIGNAL in the WHOLE valley except at the beach which is not great either. Keep this in mind if you need to be connected for whatever reason. Other than that, the beach was great. Not too crowded. There are a lot of beautiful trails in the area but expect to take dirt roads to get to some trail heads.
One of the best parks in Ontario, great trails with a large variety of difficulty levels for different levels/ages. Wonderful views off trails and even a great drive to lookout at the "Thunder Bay Lookout". Have been frequenting for years and bringing the kids as their hiking abilities change as they get older.
Beautiful place, no reception around the campground. Most of the hikes in the park are very long.
Most beautiful park we've been to. Can't wait to exore more.
Beautiful trails, great picnic spots and thunder bay lookout is a must
Amazing place to stay. Trails are amazing but make sure you get directions from a few people. Park ranger sent us to the wrong cliff so needed to hike 36 km for 11 hours up both cliffs. But amazing views
Overnight back country trip. Formal sites have bear boxes and simple non covered outhouses. Sites are amazing, trails well groomed.
Love the park, tons to do and it is kept very clean. Would recommend cemetery trail, the sealion trail, and (if you are up for an 8 hour hike) the top of the giant trail. Loses points for unclear trail markings and overly expensive park store. Overall a great place to stay with tons to see :)
Great park. We stayed at the camp cabins which had everything we needed plus the one we were in was dog friendly. Perfect place to really get off grid as there is little to no cell reception in the park.
By far, one of my favorite provincial parks. Plenty of hikes and trails. The staff are kind, courteous and pleasant. Obviously not all sites are as great, however, you kinda know that based on photos and use of the map. However, the campsite the party I was with, was fabulous.
If you are a hiker, you've found your place!
The park is very cool and is on beautiful water. The hikes have great views, but the hike to the top is challenging and very rewarding. We did the hike with two dogs, they were able to handle the 26km hike, we brought close to 10 liters of water ensuring we had enough.
Amazing park. Very beautiful, lots of amazing trails. Staff are very friendly and helpful
We had rented a cabin here, and this place was just amazing. We had a great time it was very very berry fun for everybody. The house was nice, but the green around was even better along with the beach. Great view nic e place
Great PP. One of best I have been 2. Very clean. Great RV sites. Lots of trails. Would return.
Great trails and scenery.
We had a fantastic 2 days at sleeping giant. Rented some mountain bikes and took to a recommended trail. Only issue is that it might need to be a bit more maintained than it is. Our campsite at Mary Louise campground site 134 had little cover and was a little bit smaller than the other neighbouring sites. Otherwise had a great time, great swimming and great hiking. Would come again fo sho
Nice park and hiking. Easy to get away from the crowd
What a truly beautiful park with a wide range of trails that were in a network, almost like a choose your own adventure. I did miss having showers because of covid
Must come at least once in your life! And I prefer Autumn so you view the breathtaking colors all over the mountain! Do not stop at the top but trust yourself and continue the rest not so difficult 2km to reach the cliff!!! Only one thing, strongly recommended! Bring your bike!!! The 8km walk back to the parking lot will kill your legs, your knees, your feet and your energy, you may even lose your mind, lol:) Good luck! Photos taken-Oct 1st.
Wonderful hike up the mountain. 2 rather fit people and a dog took us 6.5 hours for the full 22 km out and back. Alot of fog on the morning we went, but the views we did have were wonderful. Worth the climb if you have the time.
Awesome very scenic plan to camp her next year
Great park with a lot of nice trails! I hiked the top of the giant one to see the gorge. 22.5 km hike but it was worth it. Great views and to be fair, the trail is really well-maintained. It is a climb but you are technically climbing stairs (a lot of stairs). Great signage in the park. The first 8 km you can bike. There is a place where you can leave your bikes. My recommendation is to hike in the morning. I saw quite a few deers and rabbits, as well as birds, squirrels, chipmunks.
Started at the South Kabeyun Trailhead and spent three nights backcountry camping in the south end of the park, hiking a loop through Lehtinen's Bay and Sawyer Bay, including trips to the Top of the Giant, Thunder Cape Bird Observatory, and the Head Trail. All told, approximately 45km. The scenery is worth the drive and the hiking distance. Some of the trails are overgrown and the campsites along the west coast are not the best (no thunder boxes, limited tent pads) but would definitely recommend this trip to anyone looking for a backcountry hiking trip.
Vast park with some breath taking scenery, would have love to stay here for longer. There's camp grounds on site so saving that for next time. Bring bug spray as mosquitoe season can be quite an eye opener.
Incredible place to spend time. Had a fabulous time hiking up to the knees.
some of the best views and campsites I've seen anywhere. make sure you do the back country hikes tho. the mild to moderate trails are basically roads. was clean and we maintained.
Little piece of heaven. Lots of fun. Near lots of walking trails. Big beach. Huge campsite. Great for everybody.
Well worth the drive to see the scenery and history (at Silver Islet).
Great place for camping, hiking and lots of other outdoor activities. Only downfall was there's no place to take your dogs go go swimming I side the park itself.
Great hikes and adventures for all ages and abilities
The camping here is amazing, there's lots of sites with their own water access and the shoreline is fantastic. My wife and I drove/camped across Canada and this was one of the highlights as far as parks went. Beautiful scenery, hiking, and swimming. I'd recommend sleeping giant to anyone heading towards Thunder Bay.
Had a large waterfront site with a view of the Giant. Great trails! So glad we put in the miles to get there. So many things to see and do in the area!
Awesome family orientated campground
Great place for hiking minus the bugs
Beautiful place. The view on the 11 km trail is awesome! (And exhausting ;) )
Unbelievably good views, beautiful nature and great swimming. Great opportunity to do some gentle off-roading in your truck. But, with that said, this park is slightly dangerous and incredibly inconvenient. If you're trying to camp here the wind can get way too excessive. Good luck getting any cell phone coverage out here. You couldn't even get a single bar. You'll have to use the pay phones at the entrance station if you need to call for help. Trails are very beautiful but extremely rustic and very dangerous in areas, enough that I wouldn't trust any unprepared casual hiker on it, and there's also a lot of poison ivy along some of these trails. Closest city is almost an hour away so you'll have to keep that in mind if something happens.
Lovely Beach and great hiking trails
Amazing views and a few lookout points at the end of the trail. More shaded area than I thought so that’s a plus when there’s a heat warning!
Endless things to see and explore. All seasons have something to offer so dont be afraid to hit the trails in winter as well
Awesome park with lots of good kayaking.
Really nice place. Preserved wild life. Hard and quite dangerous hike to the full top. On the top the views are amazing and worth the efforts.
One of the best hiking spots in Ontario. Lost of trails that vary in lengths and difficulty levels with the more strenuous also being most rewarding. The views from the peaks are world-class and an occasional dip in the frigid waters of Lake Superior will refresh even the most tired hiker.
Lakeside campsites are great. Good facilities.
Where to start with this park... this park has it all. Great hikes, good campsites, and amazing natural scenery. If you haven't visited, I would recommend taking a week vacation to visit the park as there is much to explore. I am happy that I made the 15 hour drive from Toronto.
About the best-managed Provincial Park I have visited.
nice location away from the TCH, extremely expensive, over $40.00 for one night, one person, one tent, no services.
This is a great park . The staff is friendly and helpful. First time coming to this park and I would definitely come back. The hiking is unbelievable as well. ( Big surprise right) well worth the trip . You have to climb the giants head. It's a grulling hike but well worth it. We took our big puppy with us (Lab/St. Bernard) so if he can do it at 140 pounds you got no excuse........
Nice private sites. Store hrs too short for the distance you must drive off park grounds to store. Would recommend this park. This is my second stay in 8 yrs.
Fabulous trail to the head of the giant with bikes and snacks! Loved the challenge, kids enjoyed it too!
We love this place. Great hiking, camping and love.
Great trails. Beach and camp sites . Not enough bathroom facilities! camping rates are high !
I stayed at the part of the campground that has no water. The campsite were super private and I could not see into other site from mine. So many trails to hike and lakes to see. I did the top of the Giant trail which was super hard but worth it.
The Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is like a hiker’s paradise! It has a variety of trails with different levels of difficulty. The best easy trails, in my opinion, are the Joe Creek Nature Trail and the Sea Lion Lookout trail. The Nanabosho Lookout trail is long yet worthwhile. The Sifting Lake trail is okay, but it’s not very scenic until you reach the lake.
Best nature trail yet, the Sea Lion. Greg at the office was very helpful pointing out the best trails for our group. Definitely an impressive place to take out of town guests!!
Good facilities -helpful staff -about 40 km from the hwy to the park - good shower, washing machines and bathrooms -sites with power -took a drive past the old minor's houses -signed up for the geological discussion by an retired geologist -worth the effort
Superb. One of the best provincial park.
What amazing views from the head of the giant! Be prepared to sweat it out if you are doing the 22 km top of the giant trail and carry lots of water and food. Also wear proper footwear and a trekking pole really helps.
The look outs in top of sleeping giant were beyond amazing! Worth the long hours!
Great friendly staff, easy access, great experience for family. Visitor Centre with lots to do for kids and many beautiful hiking trails
Second time there , camped at Marie Louise campground, beautiful , no words.(site 318) , definitely worth the drive!
A great stay. Much to do. Marie Louise Lake campground and beach was great. The lookout had great views of the giant. Beach has a volleyball court, basketball net, 2 play scapes, washrooms and picnic tables. Water was warm enough and refreshing. Thunder Bay lookout is a must. No hiking just a 9km slow drive one way. Sea lion is around 1km one way. Top of the Giant was a hard 3 to 4 km climb one way out of the 10.9km. Get an early start. Takes around 7 hours with stops. My campsite was small and not private enough. Visitor center hours are 9.30am and 3.30pm.
The view from top of the giant is spectacular. Its worth the hike.
Spectacular view of Amethyst Harbour and Thunder Bay from Thunder Bay lookout.
Had a lovely time. Staff were very nice. Views from the Giant are amazing
This park is beautiful, and there are many trails of varying lengths and difficulties. The trails that take you to the Top of the Giant is a full day hike, but the views from the top are worth it.
I went for a hike with friends along this trail during vacation this past summer and it was amazing! I would highly recommend bringing some bug spray because there are many mosquitoes as the walk is in the middle of the woods and can last for up to 10 hours, but it is mind boggling beautiful. You can even climb the giant itself, over 700 feet high. When you look over the edge at the top you can barely even tell how far the ground truly is because it all blends into a beautiful forest surrounded by a wall of rocky mountain. Will definitely return!
Nice park, book early for water sites. They close early so book online or by phone. If they are closed you cannot buy firewood either. Buy some on your way in or arrive early. No cell service (Bell/Telus). Have to drive almost to the highway for service. Not a big deal, just be aware.
Most amazing place. Had an amazing site. Looked out over the giant. Only recommendation is if you do the Thunder Bay look out make sure you are driving a 4X4
Beautiful scenery, but the trail markers need updating (at Tee Harbour junction the post indicated we had to continue 1.5 km to Tee Harbour and the arrow was pointing the wrong way)
What beautiful campground! Except for the night the campground ran out of wood and wasn't delivered until 11pm. Actually I had to chase the park warden down.
Great place to unplug. The only service is down at the beach
Fantastic trail - long but not too steep except for 2 parts. We saw groups of families with young kids (6-12) running up, so it's really not that bad. Expect to take about 6-8 hours. View up top is astonishing; we flew to Thunder Bay from Toronto for the weekend just to hike it. Worth all the time and money... just bring enough food.
such a big park but so many things to see and do if you are a nature buff!
Amazing!! No dog beaches tho..
The scene is not bad. But this is the place to share review for "Sleeping Giant Provincial Park" so 5 star cannot be given absolutely. There are multiple things to be pointed out: 1, no cellphone signal for Koodo. very weak for Rogers. thus no data, no internet. which means very hard in case of emergency like flat tire or medical issues. also cannot contact families, cannot identify location, cannot know weather, cannot call park office... 2, fire ban in Aug 2021 but there was camp fire in a site for 2 nights - no park officer show up 3, trail does not have garbage cans. there was a toilet sign but no toilet. 4, trailer that paid for site cannot park in parking lot 5, comfort station got cleaned too early and too long, 8:30 - 11:00, not convenient. 6, less grass in campground, makes dirty dust in wind. 7, for trail - not only no cellphone signal, but also - trail map not that clear, and road signs are also not clear 8, no park store - means cannot buy anything 9, garbage can has very little opening at comfort station - hard to throw into 10, comfort station shower room has poor design and build, small, no ventilation, some rooms lock not working
Didn't get to explore a whole lot.. only went for half the day or less but totally worth it! Love the views and trails. If you are short on time or don't want to hike as much, you can drive to the thunder bay look out for a spectacular view! The Middleburn bay beach is nice too though I probably should have checked out the sea lion trail instead. Saw some wildlife too.. a different Ontario up here compared to GTA!
This is beautiful park for hiking day trips. Be aware if you plan on camping there thou. My daughter and her friends were asked to leave after they paid for 3 nights and only stayed for one. Apparently in the morning someone complained of noise fromi their site problem is no ranger came by for a warning nor did anyone else say anything to them that evening. At 10am a warden came by fine them 180.00 plus they made them still pay 80.00 for the next two nights they had booked. Also each vechicle was charged a 30.00 for 3 day charge. What a scam! They were very upset and will never return. All they had to do was come by and say something if they were to loud but that didnt happen. Its a big money grab!
The bathrooms were spotless, the staff were very friendly, and there was very minimal garbage on the ground. There were lots of camping sites, some were quite close together but others had more privacy. The only "bad" thing I have to say is it was quite a long drive into the camping area from the highway.
Nicest beach without having to fly.
It was an amazing camping experience
