You may have noticed that it reaches an opinions average is virtually the top, and it is based on a very high number of opinions, so we can be pretty sure that the valuation is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to give opinions when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Park belongs to the category of Nature preserve.
Below expectations.
It was such a great experience
Over 10 km of hikes. Nice shop, and one of a kind rock carving dating between 1200 to 600 years ago. Great day out
Very nice and peaceful place. Hope to return and do some hiking in there future.
Really well organized and wonderful experience. It would be cool if there were a video Tour or app tour you can download about what all the symbols meant too.
Great history of our nation natives!
A beautiful walk. Very peaceful. The lake is gorgeous. This area is worth exploring!
Can't camp here but the petroglyphs and the hiking trails are beautiful
Good spot for hiking but you cannot see the petroglyphs atm due to covid, call ahead
Unusual color water
Such a beautiful and peaceful place
Attended the special evening presentation put on by Ontario Parks. Extremely well done, powerful, very respectful of First Nations. It drives home how much we can still learn from First Nations, their deep connection to nature, and the power and depth of their oral history. At the same time it juxtaposes European mentality and impact in uncovering the Petroglyphs and their subsequent deterioration, and the ironic impact of the glass enclosure now covering them that has reduced the water flow through the deep crevaces that cross the site which has reduced the spirit voice sounds which are part of the spirituality of the site.
Amazing place. The energy you could feel. Mike the warden was full of knowledge and a joy to talk with. I look forward to doing a night visit and hear the water run when the times are correct. If you want to see a truly amazing native culture spot come visit. Show up with the right frame of mind and truly feel the power in the place. Enjoy
Stunning place, great for pictures! Nice variety of trails for all levels but not stroller friendly I would say. The best part is McGuiness Lake, breath taking for sure. Just have to be extremely careful especially if you have younger …
Petroglyphs provincial park.... Lovely, scenic and peaceful spot that brings tranquility in soul.
Really special place.
A great natural tract of wilderness, and a place of native cultural history. Trouble is, it should be open many more months each year than just summer as it is now.
A place where you would find artwork of First Nation for spiritual purposes, and a lake nearby which is meromictic - an interesting place really. Few trails are there also. Only catch you can not swim in the lake or can not take photos of the artwork.
Gorgeous hike around a beautiful lake! It’s pretty easy terrain and wasn’t busy at all. The park is closed currently but if you park at the main gate you can walk 4km to get to the main part where the trails start. The hike sound minnow lake is lovely.
Wow wow wow!
Nice park with a beautiful lake and picnic area. You can easily spot wildlife here. There are trails but they close at 3 pm, so if you plan to go on trails try to be there early when the park opens so that you have enough time to enjoy what nature has to offer here.
Pog
Great spot to learn about the people who were here before us and for a nice hike in the forest.
This patk is a jewel of Ontario! Gorgeous nature with beautiful lakes, including a rare meromictic lake. And be sure to visit the petroglyphs, which are some of the best preserved etchings we have seen. A very hallowed ground.
Great place for a winter walk. several skiers too, but it's icy on some trails and too deep on others
Very historically Kool and spiritual place. Learned alot here
Kinda boring...
Lots of places to explore. The petroglyphs were stunningly beautiful.
Beautiful place for a walk
Very nice place. Some of the hiking trails are overgrown and there's a ton of poison ivy literally everywhere so don't even think about going hiking without long pants. This is why I give it 3 stars although I like the fact that it's overgrown since it makes it more natural.
Amazing place for those who understand history and culture. Being Indian (from India), I cherish the knowledge passed on by one of the oldest civilizations. On the eve of Canada 150, I wonder how much was lost and silenced. The knowledge of indigenous people of Canada and their local existence right here is Canada 12,000 years before the recent 150 years humbles me. Must Canada beyond the recent 150.
We took White Lightning Bus Tours to the Petroglyphs Park for a day and evening sessions.Great location, fabulous experience and great Historical experience. The staff were awesome at Park.
Excellent trip for the kids! Educating them on Canada’s history through native art. The staff was excellent in explaining how the craving were done.
Check out lake, so beautiful. The carvings are very neat and special!
Nice hike but unfortunately the visitor center was closed so we couldn't view the glyphs which they built the building around
This park is sacred to the Natives. You cannot bring your dog inside the exhibit. You have to walk quite long from the parking lot to the Visitor Centre and pay the admission fee. The stone with the writings in it is conserved inside the building. You can see the rock inside the building. You can picnic in the day use area around the McGinnis Lake. The Lake is beautiful with tri-color water and the scenery from the above is great. Don't forget to bring your bug-spray and lotion since you will be attacked by a lot of bugs.
Beautiful nature setting
Lovely walk with so much to see. Wear good shoes or hiking boots and your reusable water bottles. Leave your camera at home... They don't allow photography here to respect the site.
Great experience.
A good afternoon visit. Lots of bugs in the springtime, but the Petroglyphs are indoors! Really great dive into history.
Very interesting...must be respectful to not take pictures...my pictures were taken inside the gift shop n I asked permission which was granted a must visit the lake the trails are great
The petroglyphs were an interesting attraction. Also did the Marsh trail in Aug and loved the experience.
Very spiritual and beautiful.
A beautiful and spiritual experience.
Great park with an amazing Indigenous history. Good hiking trails
Well maintained currently. The picnic spot by McGinnis lake is beautiful and perfect to have lunch. There would be turtles crossing the road as you enter.
The space is well done with good connection to Anishinaabe culture. The rocks themselves are on a different level. But then I'm of this culture.
Interesting and educational, don't forget to check out the stunning McGinnis lake nearby enjoy
You only get a photo of a signpost because photography of the glyphs is no longer permitted. I would consider this site a must-visit location if you are in the Kawarthas. Some decent hiking trails also accessible in the park.
Great walking tour of ancient human art that has been preserved from the elements for posterity. Truly amazing to behold. An absolute must, at least once. We owe that much to our ancient predecessors who worked so hard to create these.
Nice day trip
Nice trails
Incredible collection of ancient petroglyphs by indigenous peoples. Such a treasure to see and appreciate this sacred site. Definitely worth visiting, and especially with a spirit of reconciliation.
Beautiful historic spot
It's great to feel a connection to people from thousands of years ago through the petroglyphs
Fab. Great staff. Very tall.
Amazing to get the opportunity to see into their heritage. Will have to revisit to see even more. Be careful on the drive in and remember to take your time!
Beautiful place to hike, of especial interest to geology and anthropology enthusiasts.
Great place for hiking. Note you do not need to return to your car with your parking permit* We toured the museum and petroglyphs site and then headed down to the other parking area. We had lunch with a gorgeous view on the small trail. We then finished the trail and headed to the west day use trail. We headed left on the trail and turned around just after the beautiful bridge area. This all took about 2.5 hours. It was an absolutely gorgeous hike and it reminded me of a fairy tale.. Just stunning. We will be back for sure:)
Amazing history and wildlife.
Awesome trip. Absolutely one of the undervalued treasures of Canada. Absolute best representation of aboriginal art/culture/history I've ever seen. Excellent staff too.
Very spiritual...interesting that its a active site thats still in use today...and very proud at how its protected by parks Canada..worth the visit.
Close at 5:30, all cars have to leave. scenary is good, trail is 8/10 one good washroom is at the visiter center, others are only mobile toilet Hiking, likely good for cross-country in winter(parking is a little problem due to closed in winter)
A splendid exhibit of our land's indigenous past
very interesting Historic site of significant Native Canadian heritage and spirituality
Excellent experience! Aboriginal culture & spiritual done in a very tasteful & educational way.You will learn a lot & be inspired.
Very big and nice park, great way to spend the day
This place is incredibly educational and really neat.
The Petroglyphs museum is fairly small but the exhibition is excellent. Ask the staff questions, their comments make the exhibition even more interesting. Besides the museum, there are three lakes in the park and the hiking trails along them. All in all it is a nice park that would not take a lot of time to cover.
Extremely buggy this time of year but so beautiful! Had a wonderful time at the park!!!
A little gem hidden in Ontario, it's a place that everyone need to visit to understand the beauty of Canada's aboriginal culture. Tour guides were so helpful and the interpretive centre was informative. We are planning on coming back for their night time tour!!!! Our four year old enjoyed the outdoors, and looking at the Petroglyphs!
2rl thumbs up!
Great place. Love the trails
Personally, I really love this park. it teaches so much about indigenous culture and is truly a teleportation back in time. all children matter ????????????
Nice outing
Wonderful site to visit. The building which they have set forth to preserve these ancient petroglyphs is truly amazing as it appears out in the wilderness. Great for an afternoon family adventure.
Sacred grounds ...No pics allowed.
Beautiful and a definitely must see in the area. The petroglyphs were both mysterious & interesting. The staff was very knowledgeable about everything. We were here during a very buggy day (rain cool day followed by a beautiful day) in July so bug spray is necessary if you are planning on exploring the rest of the site. Will definitely come back on a less bug filled day. It's a bit of a drive after the entrance to the park and deep in the woods. The evening tour of the petroglyphs would be really interesting.
beautiful scenery, the dogs loved it and the trails were plowed
Nice presentation of the petroglyphs and representation of the First Nations. Naturalists were well informed and very helpful. Take some bug repellent and watch out for the poison ivy along the path.
Amazing spiritual place to thank Creator with tobacco. Mind blowing rock carvings made by our ancestors to prove they were here first. This was my third visit.
Dogs are allowed into the park. But they can't go into the main feature petroglyphs. There's no point going if your dog can't be with you. You can't take any pictures either. Parking is a hike to the visitor center. Staff might have been nice. But they didn't interact with me. So I wouldn't know. I wouldn't come back, or recommend coming here. I understand they want to protect their sacred land. But the land is for animals, and the beings on it. So the restrictions are man's rules. Making what the petroglyphs have to offer and tell insignificant.
Some of the best indigenous glyphs I've seen in Canada.
This was one of the most memorable hikes I've done in years. The rock carvings are impressive and there are way more than I thought. I like the fact that you can't take photos of the petroglyphs, because it allows you to see them for the …
Petroglyphs and Lake McInnes a must see. Good day outing.
Loved that this history is being preserved
Amazing view of the lake, and the petroglyhs were very cool.
A culturally significant site that all should visit. Fabulous staff. Beautiful buildings to protect the Petroglyph s and to share knowledge about the First Nation / Anishnaabe culture. Important 20 minute movie is a must to set the context for the display. No camping. Walking trails.
Great visit! Gets busy by noon. Get here early! No photos allowed in the petroglyphs building. They don’t accept AMEX at time of this review
Great guide wonderful learning place
The staff there were very nice, and answered all the questions. You have a longer walk from the parking lot to the visitor centre. Then a shorter walk to the Petroglyphs building, a very spiritual and sacred place. If your in this area I would defiantly recommend seeing this part of history.
An amazing historical place, the park offers a great experience of natural trails...
The park was amazing, and the petroglyph carvings were wonderful.
We went for the day. The Petroglyphs site is an amazing experience. The entrance to the park is a bit confusing as you drive quite far into the park, park your vehicle, walk to the visitor center and then pay (make sure you know your …
Interesting place to visit.
I'm so impressed with the way that Ontario Provincial Parks has both preserved and continues to protect this sacred site. Staff were very friendly and approachable. Being of First Nation ancestry....I also felt the staff made great accommodations for my family during our visit. The Gathering Centre is full of traditional knowledge. They have some trails to explore. Per car fee is $14.50
I would really recommend this park for hiking. Due to Covid the park stops entry once the capacity is full. In my case they closed the gate at 11:45 AM on Saturday. …
Very Spiritual place for so many .
Beautiful place, especially the lake. Went these three times this summer.
If you like hikimg it has nice trails but the Petroglyphs themselves....I qas expecting more to see.
Amazing experience for the family. It was a REALLY hot day, but we still enjoyed it.
The petroglyphs are really interesting. It's worth a visit.
Friendly staff! nice to visit.
One of the most cutest little park
What a waste of time and money and gas...it’s pretty much a whole lot of nothing between not much. $14.50 to park...I don’t know if that’s the norm, but seemed pricey for this park. I read from the website that you couldn’t take pictures of the petroglyphs, but I guess I thought there’d be more there. ALL the petroglyphs are in a sort of building to “protect” them from the elements...ok, I get that. But I thought there’d be something other than just a couple of trails for that amount of money. Certainly not worth the drive, the time or the gas, and definitely not worth the money. Quite disappointing...if I could give zero stars, I would.
Very informative...
Loved seeing the petroglyphs and learning about their history. We did the red walk afterwards and it was nice, the paths need a bit of maintenance and there should be an active level assign to each walk as it would be difficult for some people.
A great spiritual journey inside a Provincial Park, it was an honour to be allowed to see some First Nations history.
Had the place to ourselves yesterday on the 5.5km trail around the lake (2-4pm). The trail washroom is available. Visitor center and petroglyphs are not accessible however the trails are walkable permit-free for now. An Ontario Parks officer doing the rounds said they hoped to be up and running next week. Mosquitoes are out and the trail wasn't too hot under the canopy. Definitely worth the trip. Stay hydrated.
Great! I Can Finally Study For My Science Test!
Great place to take the family? Amazing and rich history. A must see for foreigners!!
Very nice park for indigenous teachings at the petroglyphs and a pleasant hike on the trails. A great day trip!
Beautiful place and gotta see McGinnis lake. Nature is beautiful ???? Nice trails Watch out for ticks and Poison Ivy
Really well done preservation of ancient markings on stone by first nations peoples. Nice trails too.
Fabulous hiking trails.
If you love hiking.. this is the best place. Multiple trails. Requires Parking permit..15$ per car. It has learning centre which is kind of museum for the glyphs and the inuit arts and sayings. There is a separate place to see the sacred Petroglyph where dogs are not permitted and also photography is not allowed. I loved the McGinnis lake and trail the most. Note- Please carry food, water, mosquito repellent and after bite. Limited washrooms available. The entry to trails close at 3 pm and the park closes at 5pm. So best time to reach the park is 10 am ~ 11 am so that you have enough time to explore the trails.
This was the most amazing and beautiful experience I've ever had. Being able to experience what I felt here was truly blissful. You felt connected to everything. Tho the petroglyphs is inside you still felt the spirits around. I will be coming back sooner or later. What I've learned here will always be kept in my heart and I will share with others. Indigenous teachings are important and we all need to take the time to learn it. Indigenous or non-indigeous. Miigwech to everyone I've met on this trip and to what I've learned. Miigwech to Jack for showing and passing on his teachings to us. This is a beautiful place to go to, surrounded by nature and the wilderness. The scenery is so so magnificent.
Interesting expo and nice trails
Nice hiking place to visit for the day from Toronto. The drive was about 3 hours, parking costs 13 CAD and it is advised to bring your own food and water. On a fast walking pace both circuits can be completed in 3 hours. Stopping around the lake to picnic was amazing, and one can bathe too. Spotted some snakes and turtles along the way. The museum and sacred reservoir are also a nice attraction, definitely a nice day getaway for kids and adults. The museum also has beverages and ice cream for purchase and accepts debit and credit cards.
We love the McGinnis Lake as it offers breathtaking view. It was so quiet and calm. I just hope they put more signages on the entrance so it'll be less confusing.
This is a very special place. The nature in the provincial park is kept intact. The petroglyph carving are being protected by a building that was designed after much research to ensure these carvings don’t disappear through human interactions and by nature. Great, bright building is built around them. No photography is allowed which is fine. Take in all the learning you can from the indigenous guides who are present to answer your questions. Park staff at the visitor Center are also very helpful and friendly. With their permission, I took a photo of an image of one of the carvings inside the visitor Center/gift shop. I would have loved to purchase the map with all the petroglyphs, similar to the one posted on the wall inside the petroglyphs building. Too bad the learning Center is closed due to an issue with their lighting. But this means that I will come back to visit again and for more learning. Lots of poison ivy everywhere so be very careful and stay on the trails. Great hikes and beautiful lakes.
A flat hike here to 2 beautiful little lakes, about 8 km total, to McGinnis Lake, past a marsh, and then around Minnow Lake.
Beautiful area ! A 3 km drive in a road to the actual visitor’s centre
Great place but wear walking shoes and a headlight works best, sold on premise!
Awesome energy here. Be prepared to be rocked. LOL
Cool area but lacking historical reference and explanation
Beautiful park. Great for hiking
(Translated) Very nice discovery. Site of great archaeological wealth. Well laid out in the middle of nowhere. (Original) Très belle découverte. Site d'une grande richesse archéologique. Bien aménagé au milieu de nulle part.
Very interesting site. Wonderful staff. The park is well maintained and the interpretive centre is very informative. The site itself is amazing. There is a nice gift shop too.
This historical site seems well managed. The visit was informative and enjoyable. No picture taking allowed.
(Translated) She described it like this: the wind blows up and wrinkles a pool of spring water. ???????? (Original) 她这样描述这里的:风乍起,吹皱一池春水。????????
A walk through our heritage you feel as if your surroundings are alive.
Cool place.
Stunning. Trails are not easy.
the info is very confusing is should just say open from may to step daily 10-5 instead of open........... Then open daily 10 -5 then close ........... I drive so far to find out is close.
Beautiful spot to visit and more importantly a great facility to learn more about the history and culture of Indigenous peoples in Ontario.
Awesome trails
Love it so.relaximg just a beautiful place to visit.
Hidden gem! Explored the short trails this summer and it was such a beautiful walk. Very family friendly and a quick drive from Toronto (worth it). Lots of parking and an accessible bathrooms.
Beautiful.
Hikes are meh. The two viewing spots are awesome of the lake! The glyphs are closed still July 1st
Great place with canoe rental too
Interesting displays in the Visitors Centre here. This is a day use only park so make the most of it and plan a same day trip to another Provincial Park for a swim or picnic. Or if you're camping at any other Provincial Park nearby make a day trip here and you get in free (to any Omtario Provincial Park) if your permit is still valid.
The petroglyphs are currently closed but the walking trail is open. They still want to charge you $15.50 for parking.
Good place for a hike and history lesson
Amazing nature's creation.
It's pretty decent though I'm not sure with the drive from Toronto to see
Amazing place, very spiritual.
Great outing for a day trip, be prepared for some walking and bring bug spray. Bathrooms near parking. Register for parking at guest services about 200 meters from parking. When in the site no photography or video.
Fascinating! This is an amazing preserved piece of history. No photos are permitted and it is a small walk, but well worth the visit. To further understand the significance, spend time with the knowledgeable, friendly, helpful interpreters. Clean, modern toilettes are found in the Learning Centre. Outhouse facilities are found at the start of the 3 hiking trails. (Photos are permitted on the trails.) A gift shop in the Learning Centre offers souvenirs and a small assortment of snacks. It is a bit of a drive in to the Learning Centre and Petroglyphs (protected by a building). There is parking. There is a fee, payable in the Learning Centre. This allows you entrance to other parks, but check how long it is valid. On your drive out, be sure to stop at McGinnis Lake. It is one of a small number in the world that is a meromictic lake. The water is clear and the colour is stunning. There is free parking and there is an outhouse at the start of the short trail to the lake. NOTE: Swimming in the lake is not permitted. This is well worth the visit.
Great park with lots of hiking trails and McGinnis Lake is beautiful!
There are lovely hiking trails around the park. The petroglyphs alone, are beautiful and amazing to look at. What a magnificent snapshot into history we are given. The staff are friendly and passionate about the site. Dogs are allowed on the property, but they are not permitted near the petroglyphs.
A bucket list place for anyone. History, beauty the rare lakes. The learning center is full of amazing facts, the staff are kind and friendly. This special spot will live in my heart forever.
Amazing place of discovery! The trails are also very nice! The 5km Nanabush trail is an easy hike in the forest and arrives a lake.
Beautiful grounds, but petroglyphs sute and learning centre were covid closed. Looking forward to another trip to see them! Great hiking grounds and spots to picnic
Great park with lot's of trails. Some areas are restricted to dogs so be aware when bringing your furry friend.
The info center was unique and informative of the.native ways. The rock was sacred and it actually felt it. Seeing the rock was an experience to remember, and i recommend people to see it. If you just do the petroglyphs and info center, it makes for a short trip, or take a walk down one of their amazing trails. The rocky, and hilly terrain will guide you through amzing forest areas, mash's and minnow lake.
I have a cottage near here and go here occasionally on hikes. Wonderful hiking trails and learning centre. If you're lucky, you can find a five-lined skink.
Super friendly staff and great hiking areas!
First visited in fall to enjoy the beautiful meromictic lake where the bottom hasn't changed for hundreds of year. Visited gain in 6 months when visitor center is opened. Very much appreciated the 20min movie, the gallery and the preserved Petroglyphs site. I was educated and inspired by wisdom passed down by ancient native. Many of staff are also native, they are very knowledgeable and helpful to visitors. Strongly encourage high school field trip spend time here to connect to native culture.
(Translated) Remains of Native American petroglyphs. (Original) Vestiges de pétroglyphes amérindiens.
Nice views. The time I visited there was lots of parking. You have to walk for 10 mins from where the car parked to the visitor Center and obtain your ticket but you didn’t need to bring the ticket back to you car - in case you wanted to …
This is an excellent place to see first hand how indigenous peoples of North America existed
Absolutely stunning! I really enjoyed seeing not just the petroglyphs but the scenery, especially the lake. There is a lot of walking involved so dress appropriately. Don't carry anything that will load you down but do bring a bottle of water.
The largest collection of petroglyphs on Turtle Island carved in stone. This sacred and most important place for the indigenous people of different nations must be seen in everyone's life at least once. The gift shop and snack bar are quite good created the DVD that I purchased from there about the petroglyphs was very informative. Petroglyphs are located deep in the forest and makes her beautiful surroundings.
Beautiful place. Unfortunately the learning place is not fully functioning because of a power outage. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The petroglyphs themselves are sacred. I'm pleased they are being protected.
Interesting place to visit. Enjoyed the walk in the woods.
Amazing piece of history for the land that we are borrowing. We should all strive to visit and know more.
I visited it several years ago and it was a wonderful and educational experience. If you are looking for something unusual to see, Petroglyphs would not disappoint you. Beautiful turquoise lake ( mind you, you cannot swim there, it is a meromictic lake), and of course Teaching Stones. Highly recommend!
Something we all should know about the heritage of the first North American's.
A strong spiritual energy eminates from this remote location deep in the woods outside of Curve Lake First Nation...A whole library for those that can read the gliphs!
Petroglyphs are very cool but some of the trails are not maintained. One just ended and we had to turn back.
This is such an amazing place to visit. Such history. Wish it was a nicer day when I went.
Long walk from parking lot to glyphs building. Friendly staff.
Beautiful area. Sacred and spiritual. Amazing carvings. Worth a visit.
Very interesting and educational place. Wish the price would be a bit lower but I understand that it keeps the place running and staffed. Great to learn history of our ancestors.
Great history and knowledgeable staff. I wished the trails were a little wider
Good info on native beliefs, petroglyphs were cool to see.
I visited the Petroglyphs Provincial Park for a day and was extremely impressed with the facility. The main Learning Centre is extremely informative and houses an excellent exhibit and small retail store. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. I was able to visit the Teaching Rocks and then continued on for a hike after. The trails were gorgeous and very well-kept. This is an excellent place to visit for the whole family and I will definitely be returning.
We truly enjoyed! In a time when many places, especially public ones, are taking the easiest route by simply closing, Petroglyphs has modified operations so they can stay open. Your efforts were greatly appreciated. We were honoured to be able to visit, to learn, and to explore. Thank you!
Very interesting,
Simply Amazing! Gorgeous place tu visit
Recommend to drive a SUV
The petroglyphs were pretty cool to see. Decent hikes (easy). Some beautiful lakes. Not busy (on a Monday early afternoon), though it appeared to be busier after we finished hiking in the late afternoon.
A wonderful day get away! Trails are nice and staff is very knowledgeable about the history of the site. If something feels lack luster, don't be shy and ask a few questions!
If you want to fully appreciate the precolonial history of this country you must visit Petroglyphs. I was humbled and filled with emotions. Still trying to absorb the magnitude of the history of the teaching rock.
Beautiful hikes, informative pavilion and 6000 years of history. Friendly staff
Favorite Provincial Park - 3000 year old rock carvings - Day Park Only - Camped at nearby Warsaw Caves - great campground close enough to make a day trip to this park.
Interesting, if your into that stuff. Moderate trails, bring your bug off! Some poison ivy, Marsh trail looked overgrown so definitely suggest covering up!
This was a nice day trip. We live in the GTA so it was a bit of a drive but bearable. If you aren't into the glyphs the lake is really nice.
Interesting off the beaten path site to see.
Had a wonderful hike on the Marsh Trail and also walked to McGinnis Lake to capture the picturesque photo of the meromictic lake. Appreciated the kind staff at the visitor centre and their covid safety measures were well enforced. On a busy Sunday morning we were lucky enough to have been able to enter but I did see that the park could reach capacity before the afternoon (via Twitter) so it is definitely good to check and see first if there's any space left before making the trek.
This is sacred land operated by ontario provincial park. if your coming here for the petroglyphs it is advised to not use cameras. Im sure someone could sneak one in, But if you do, you do not deserve to even be there. this is a very spiritual place I did feel an inner energy that is very hard to explain. I did have a sense of going back in time. Life changing. I will not post photos as I believe it is something you need go experience in person. Im from the city but I teach my group how to have respect for nature. I will be back for more to explore. Wish we got here earlier. They close the gate at 5pm. we got there around 3:45 and rushed to see everything we could. Parking may be confusing for your first time but it easy to figure out if you get a map. Park ranger was informative and helpful, OP needs more rangers like him. I think the same ranger is also native and is very informative. Thanks for the pleasant experience Ontario parks. The phots were taken outside the park at a secret location, no prohibited driving was done during our visit.
Great park to learn a lot. I learned a lot about the Nishnaabe and what the petroglyphs represent. It was a great experience and the hiking trails are very nice as well.
Great hiking trails and views. Great cultural experiance.
Nice and calm place . Trails are very good.
I can still remember coming here on a school trip 25 something years ago in elementary school... The trails along the water are something I will never forget.
Beautiful
Always nice to see bit of my aboriginal background...staff were amazing very helpful and informative
Ideal for family hiking, when after you can have a picnic with a beautiful view of the lake (on benches next to). The best time to visit is in the morning, then you will definitely find a parking spot, after 12 it will be more difficult. You can't book a parking here, it works as 'first come, first served'
Good spot with some interestinf history
We had an excellent time at the park!
The site of the petroglyphs and the Learning Centre put you in touch with past generations of the First Peoples of North America. It allows you to appreciate a piece of the culture and history of the Ojibwe, and the lessons they have to teach. Allow 2-3 hours minimum for just the Learning Centre and Petroglyphs. Wear comfortable shoes, there's two short walks from the parking lot to the Learning Centre, and the Learning Centre to the Petroglyphs. The paths are small stone screening, it will fill sandals. Several hiking trails are available, however I did not partake. Please be respectful to this site, there is no video or photography.
Unimpressive.
One of the best trails!
Really interesting park. The petroglyphs are worth visiting all on their own. Add in a meromictic lake then sprinkle on some great hiking trails and I'm not sure what more you could ask for. Dogs are allowed except within the protective building. Disabled parking and old age parking. Great spot everyone should visit!
Very good informative center. There are 2 locations inside within walking distance. The learning centre and the glyphs. No pictures allowed at the glyphs but pictures are allowed at the learning center The only flushable washrooms are at the learning center but toilets exist elsewhere as well. Mcginnis lake was good. Perhaps would look different on a sunny day..
history that tells us who we are from journeys of the past
Very cool! They take the preservation of the glyphs very seriously. Bring your camera and a lunch and go on a nice long hike around the park. About 10k of trails.
Incredible and sacred Indigenous place, so glad this has been preserved and protected. The staff are super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful
Beautiful trails! Especially love coming here in the fall, but nice any season. Definitely visit the learning center to see the petroglyphs themselves before hiking. Nice picnic areas (East Day Use) and the lakes are gorgeous. Would recommend wearing hiking boots to keep safe on the uneven rocky portions of the trails.
We found this by accident when researching what to do in the area. It’s amazing the petroglyphs have survived all this time and I’m glad they’re preserved in a building from further damage. An important spiritual place and thank you to the Curve Lake First Nation for sharing this with us. The Park Warden was extremely knowledgeable and willing to share the history and significance on the place with us for which we are grateful.
Beautiful park with lots of history. Wish we could take pics of the petroglyphs- there's a no photography policy. Also lots of huge flys that want to be our friend and will want to escape in the car with you. A must see if you're in the area!
Nice hike around 2 hours maybe a bit more, the petroglyphs are really interesting the park rangers go to great detail explaining the history and importance of the place. Would definitely recommend to any one that is in the area
Cool place to visit
Great hiking and walking trails.
Disappointing and outdated, but still a nice walk and very interesting to be able to see the petroglyphs. Since you are not allowed to take pictures, it would have been nice to have some sort of photo opportunity or merchandise to keep the memory.
Always saw a sign for this place & never stopped to check it until recently. Great learning experience for our little ones but also ourselves. So neat! Perfect educational spot. Long drive in off the main road but we’ll protected. Clean & maintainers nicely!
Rich history
No photographs allowed of the petroglyphs, which are protected by a ranger-supervised enclosure as it is an active spiritual site used by the First Nations. Hence, it is a peaceful and contemplative space infused with the scent of recent smudging.
Came here a couple days ago on a Wednesday, not crowded at all and very relaxing. McGinnis lake here is phenomenal! Make sure to get a parking permit in the Visitor center (free when we went on a Wednesday)
Very good. A bit of a drive. Seniors should make sure to use the seniors parking lot. There is a bit of a walk from the regular parking lot to the visitor centre.
Back to nature and a vibrant powerful place. Would be five star if visitor centre and toilets could be open a little longer than five p.m
The petroglyphs were inspiring and amazing to look at. They were beautiful. The trails aren't stroller friendly, though, which we learned the hard way. The wife and I can't wait to go back and check out the trails when we are kid free!
Choose between three beautiful trails to hike on in this gorgeous provincial park. At the Visitors Center, you can see art work and textiles by local indigenous craftspeople as well as familiarize yourself with various aspects of spirituality, history and culture. The actual petroglyphs (prehistoric stone carvings if images that depict famous figures in stories) are worth seeing as well. A great place to take the family for a 10km hike and enjoy a picnic while learning something new about our Canadian heritage!
Well preserved Petroglyphs, etched in stone. Beware, barely any phone signal, Internet in the area.
Sooo very interesting and informative.
Not to sure weither to blame Google or the park but Google told me the park was open today only to drive an hour or more to find it closed.. super dissapointed
The park is incredibly well maintained, and lots of information. Great trails, without it being to over worked. The park has been incredibly respectful to nature and it's surroundings.
Interesting exhibit. Films provide information about the petroglyphs and their possible meaning. Lots of walking. Could use more picnic tables. Bug spray is definitely needed during mosquito and black flu season. Gift shop has a farely good selection of items.
Great place. Very knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend a visit.
Very nice park, the building that housed the Petroglyphs was spacious and easy to see everything, The staff here is excellent and open to all questions.
A truly wild provincial park. A warm and inviting visitors centre that reminds us that we all share the same planet. The Petroglyphs are about a 5 minute walk from the centre, there are guides there to answer any questions and helpfully put all the images into perspective. A reminder though that it is a sacred space and dogs are not allowed into the visitors centre nor the Petroglyphs display, also no photos or videos are allowed in the Petroglyph centre.
Pretty meh!
Amazing!!!
Great hike, great views! Petroglyphs are pretty awesome!
Great learning curve
From front gate to visitor centre is 4.1km, so you would be walking for 30 mins just to get to some trails from the gate. They are very strict regarding the grounds (i dont blame them). Dogs are not allowed in some areas. if you are lucky and quiet when you walk- you may see pheasants, deer, ducks, woodpeckers cross your path.
Learning centre is very informative and moving. Petroglyphs are absolutely amazing to see and appreciate the efforts being made to preserve them.
(Translated) Good but nothing more. Nice hiking trails. (Original) Bien mais sans plus. Des chemins de randonnée sympa.
Such a beautiful place, absolutely loved this park and would go back again.
Really interesting place, park warden was fantastic gave us so much more information about the history, culture etc! Definitely recommended a visit!
Not your typical provincial park in that there’s no camping or beaches, etc. There is however a very interesting Indigenous artifact - a marble rock face containing hundreds of pictographs dating back 600 to 1100 years ago. Considered a sacred space, ceremonies are still sometimes held here. Park also has a couple of nice walking trails and a very unusual lake (a sign post explains the interesting colour). No swimming, fishing or boating but worth a look. Dogs allowed on trails but not allowed near the pictographs. If you want to go for a swim when you’re done.....as you exit the park, turn right. In about 1/2 km you’ll see a sign for Quarry Bay Beach on the left. Not a huge beach but nice shallow entry, hard packed sand bottom so no squishy feeling. Great for kids. Serious swimmers will find it gets deeper quickly once beyond the markers.
Interesting place to visit. Not for younger children in my opinion.
Nice place but would not drive more then 30 min to see it Definitely not worth the drive from Toronto, unless you are specifically looking for petroglyph.
Brilliant accidental find. So happy I went. Amazing piece of history, worthy of reverence.
A Sacred peaceful beautiful place. Very interesting and informative. Knowledgeable Park staff. A nice walk through the woods. I've been twice and I will be back. The carvings are wonderful but remember no photos. Enjoy!
The Petroglyphs themselves were great, very interesting. How I was nit happy about the fact that I was not told when I paid that my dog was not allowed on the path kneading up to building. I understand tgat the dog would not be allowed in the buildings however I did not expect he would not be able to go on the nature path to tge building. I told the cashier I had dog when we paid but he never said anything about the dog nor being allowed in any if yhe out door parts of the park.
What a great experience. The Petroglyphs area, relatively close to the parking / visitors centre was amazing. Still in its "natural" state, except of course for the large building that covers it all. Staff very knowledgeable, and actual …
It is beautiful here!!!!!
Absolutely stunning ! I think lake McGinnis can be called Ontario’a little banff as it is a mini version of lake Louise . Two colors and fantastic view . Bring some food for picnic and enjoy! there are a lot of picnic tables around the lake .
Amazing ! Very knowledgable park rangers.
Excellent park with beautiful nature surroundings. Highly recommend that you visit. Very unique experience to have these petroglyphs in Canada in this beautiful setting.
McGinnis lake is a must see, a truly remarkable place.
Amazing trails! Beautiful McGinnis Lake! Plus got to appreciate history and Aboriginals more.
The glyphs were interesting and the information center was interesting to learn about the glyphs. I didnt get a chance to explore the trails, but did see the amazing looking lake. Aim to have a picnic or BBQ here if youre organized enough...

Great nature walk
Very nice walks, really buggy this time of year so be prepared. Lots of parking but make sure you check in at the visitors centre first. Great for taking pictures and exploring history.
Excellent for short day hikes. Knowledgable staff.
Awesome place to visit
Truly mysterious. The whole place reverberates with a different energy. Even the trees seem to speak.
History in nature. One of a kind.
Great hikes, amazing place, history and heritage
No one around on a Monday. Perfect.
(Translated) Nature is protected. (Original) Природа под охраной.
Wonderful place, the museum is inspiring, the petroglyphs super interesting. The trails are great, not a single piece of trash! Raw nature. The red trail around minnow lake was amazingly beautiful. Excellent place to spend quality time with the family outdoors. The price of admission is cheap (15$) and the food in the museum store is priced fairly.
Freaking awesome place can't wait to go again!!
Beautiful lake, a real gem.
Thank you for a beautiful day of healing❤????????
Spiritual place of real significance
Beautiful place. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The trails are a bit difficult I would not bring small children on them. We were amazed by the carvings, they were so raw and wonderful. Such an amazing time capsule into history. We will definitely be back. And the park was free when we visited in July, the park attendant said "it's free Monday to Thursday" that was a surprise bonus.
Very interesting and great hikes
Wonderful spiritual place .
Beautiful, educational and fun!!
Such an amazing place and experience. The petroglyphs are a sight to behold. Words can't really describe the feeling being there and seeing them.
Great place amazing!!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
Loved this place! Great hiking trails and very informed staff.
(Translated) Not bad, but there are a lot of bugs (Original) 不错哟,不过就是虫子有点多
First time, well worth the walk
Nice Park, very beautiful
Was cool seeing 1000 year old history being preserved.
The only problem we faced during this time of year were the swarms of mosquitoes. Well, can’t complain much it was their breeding season.
My first time here. The petroglyphs were amazing! A very special place that was an honor to be able to experience.
Lovely place
Beautiful park with lots of walking trails, a learning centre and a very unique protected set of petroglyphs
Nice hiking trails, great educational visitors center, friendly informative staff. Great park store.
A nice drive from Peterborough. Although the petroglyphs are really nice to see, make sure you stop to see the meromictic Lake. There are multiple parking lots that each give you a different view of the colours. The petroglyphs do not allow any photography since it's in a covered building to protect and preserve
We visited Petroglyphs PP on its last operating day in 2021, which is Thanksgiving Monday. The visitor center is around 3kms from the entrance, and this is where park permits are purchased. The Petroglyphs site is a short walk from the …
Natives are the creators of lifes
Wow what a spiritual place! this whole weekend has been just an totaly eye opener for me and Canadian Culture. This place is great to combine with Whetung Ojibwa Centre, not too sure where it is because I didn't do the driving but it's not too far about 30 minutes away . And Burleigh Falls is awesome.
Has a few nice trails. Won't need to stay long
the park was full by 11 AM and we were turned away. Very disappointed to drive more than 2 hours to get there and to be forced to leave. Felt like a stray dog... No stars for this visit!
Nothing much about it. Glyphs on that big rock are interesting. Mcginnis lake is something that you should not miss.
Great experience
It was a wow place. Specially the lake under clear sky and sun was breathtaking.
As a history lover and nature lover ,it's an wonderful experience for us
Its just a rock with some drawings on it
Neat experience. I learned a lot
Good place to visit.
Great place for hiking and historical in nature.
Amazing to see something like this in your own backyard. Makes you appreciate local history and culture.
Very interesting piece of Canadian cultural history.
Glad I went but wouldn't go too far out of your way if you're interested in the petroglyphs specifically It's a 5 min drive into the park to reach parking. 5 min walk to the visitor centre to buy tickets and pay for parking. 5 min walk to the petroglyphs which are inside a building. 15 min to walk through the building in a circle around them with a few plaques with info. Masks are needed to enter. The building is around the actual petroglyphs so they haven't been moved, they are on a rock face on the ground. No pics allowed in the building or of the building. The visitor centre has some history in it that you can walk through once paid and getting directions. They signal you when it's ok to enter the building and masks are needed. Waited 10 min for two families ahead of me. Dogs are not allowed into the petroglyph area. They can get half way there. Did see one kid waiting for his family to come back Gift shop is bare with almost no authentic aboriginal items. Figured they'd at least have some magnets of the petroglyphs Hiking trails looked nice and many people seemed to be using them over visiting the petroglyphs. I made it by noon on a Wednesday and parking was getting full though the bus area was completely empty and their looked to be a few cars parked on the other side of the trail entrance
The trail is narrow and so many bugs flying around.
I can't believe that this isn't a more popular place. The petroglyphs themselves are fascinating and the attending staff are very knowledgeable about what can be known of the first nations cultures of the area (the meanings behind the glyphs can only be speculated). When you've finished viewing these and you've explored the education centre, there is a great trail with both woodland and wetland. Great photo opportunities abound, but don't photograph the petroglyphs! Flash photography could damage them and they are also considered sacred. Entry is cheap and you can easily spend a few hours here, so visit them yourself!
Nice place to hike! Hiking trails are not stroller friendly though!
Energy
An inspirational and sacred place.
Incredibly interesting
Had an amazing visit at the Petroglyphs. We were lucky to attend the same night as the evening presentation where they explained the meanings behind the markings. The lake was gorgeous!!! Short drive away from multiple camp sites! Worth a visit!
Beautiful Park! Always clean, beautifully maintained, highly spiritual...amazing!!
Beautiful place. Very well taken care of by staff. Not for dogs. They have to stay behind. Unless your going with more than two people. Best to leave them behind. There are picnic tables and places to sit. The walk to the second area isn't too far
Very Historic. Extreme religious importance.
It seems like a nice place, but little of it made any sense to me. Your experience will probably be more educational than my own. What are ya gonna do.
Natural and beautiful ????
Great park for walks and learning some history.
To be perfectly frank, I am disappointed with this park. When first hearing about this place, I was really excited to know there is such a ancient remain in Canada and was expecting to see some relevant archaeology information here. Instead, it was mostly about the heritage. While the display makes sense since the teaching rock is the sacred ground, it's just not what I was hopping to see.
Wonderful presentation of indigenous culture linked to the carvings on the sacred rock. Well worth the visit, and take the time to converse with the indigenous park guides as they have a wealth of associated information and background on the site.
Amazing place for day trip. Some nice trails. Feels peaceful viewing the petroglyphs. Lake McGinnis with distinct blue green color was the highlight!!
Nice hikes
Great
The Glyphs were amazing to see ....the hike was awesome as well .
This place leaves long lasting effect after you visited it. Pictures are not allowed, so, just trust my word on this one.
A bit of a challenge getting to the exhibit for those with mobility issues. Even though I parked in the wheelchair parking I was lucky I had my young niece who could go to the parking booth to pay for parking while I waited by the car, but it was still a far distance to walk for me to get to the exhibition building. Worth the effort, just be aware.
Beautiful park with amazing history
It was excellent very interesting
Great place to visit. The staff were extremely knowledgeable about the area, the writings and drawings are well preserved, and the nearby lakes are absolutely gorgeous
(Translated) The engravings are impressive. And I really like that children and adults can draw petroglyphs. (Original) Los grabados son impresionantes. Y me gusta mucho que los niños y grandes puedan dibujar los petroglyphs.
Visited first in early 80’s before the structure was built over them. I remember being able to walk all over the glyphs and looking back it was obviously pretty disrespectful. I was 6 or 7 years old though, what did I know? Anyway, brought my kids today and we really enjoyed it. Glad to see it’s been protected, hopefully my grandkids will be able to come and see it too. The fact that I have a vivid memory of visiting so long ago and my whole family enjoyed it today tells you it’s a pretty special place. Don’t expect It to blow you away in awe, but take it in and you can certainly feel the history of the site.
Beautiful place to hike. The view of the lake is stunning(swimming is NOT allowed). The exhibition about native history is also interesting.
The perroglyphs rock was much larger than expected. Down side is that youenot allowed to take pictures of it. The trails are good and easy to follow. Saw the most birds here, in comparison to the other parks in the area.
Amazing facility with knowledgeable staff.
Beautiful and breathtaking! Staff answered my several questions thoroughly and politely (thank you!!) Get there before 3 for trail walking. Visit the emerald green McGinnes Lake. Amazing. I was told people leave for dinner and come back at night to see the carvings - the lighting allows you to see many more!
If you are near the Petroglyphs you should go see it.
Beautiful
It's ok as a short stop not a day trip
Amazing. Educational and beautiful scenery
Nice day trip Park, interesting lake and learning center about petroglyphs.
This Provincial Park is special because of the Petroglyphs they have on site. They are dated about 600 to 1100 years ago. Unique place, it is sacred; no photo/video, no pets. We enjoyed it. …
Great job of restoring and saving the petroglyphs site
Thank you for sharing your culture with me
