We did the 3 day hike round trip, I would recommend making sure you are more fit than I was! The first day was a lot of regular wooded hiking with a couple great view points, and a lot of elevation. The second day was breath taking with amazing coastal views and very open and beautiful rocky/mossy cliff side. We stayed in a cabin for the second night and the cabin was so cozy with clean drinking water and firewood. The third day was very long and had a difficult elevation at the very end. mostly just wooded area. If we were to do it again we would make sure we had more time, possibly 2 more days to fully enjoy it.

What a wonderful park! I walked the Coastal Loop in the off-season. It took me two nights. There are heaps of look-outs along the trail and with a bit of luck you can see eagles, seals and more wild life. The trails are well maintained, the campsites small and inviting. Unfortunately, there are no campfires permitted and there no food-ropes/storages. For hiking, I highly recommend this park over the Kejimkujik.

Olivier

Not my favorite camping on NS. Gravel road. Direction not really easy on site. No shower installation. But you can take free logs on site for your fire. Good dimension for camp. You have to travel your stuff from the parking lot, grab your backback and full it ;)

Bruce MacDonald

A Gorgeous area of the planet! We did the full loop backwoods hike, counter-clockwise over 3 days. The first day of 20km was mainly old growth forest with many streams, hills and valleys but not any real "vistas" for photo ops. stayed Night one at Seal Cove and opted to camp on the beach. Day 2 we hiked ( in the pouring rain ) to Refugee Cove and camped there. Campsites were well marked and relatively clean. All the trail was well marked, a few areas were starting to get a bit overgrown from branched but nothing too bad.. This hike is very challenging with huge climbs and is only recommended for experienced hikers with good cardio.

One of the best multi-day hikes in the Maritimes Cape Chignecto Trail makes a 50km loop around the park. Two thirds of the hike takes you along the rugged coast and the closing third through the woods on the eastern edge of the park. Spectacular scenery throughout!

I give it 5 stars for its beauty. 5 stars for how well kept it is. 5 stars for getting away from it all...and just being with nature. My wife and I just completed the 52km hike, it was 3 full days. The full meal deal requires some good cardio, and willingness to have sore legs for a couple days! Shorter options are available to you with day trips, or 1 and 2 day hikes as well.

Cape chignecto is a fantastic loop trail, semi rugged terrain with a lot of up and downs, and it has tons of beautiful views. Book the rustic cabins if you can, they're a treat after a day of backpacking.

Adam Pope

Hiked the loop, it was a drag in spots but totally worth it, a great hike with amazing views. Campsites were nice and pretty clean.

Chris Green

Nice park. My son and I went for three days during the week in June very few people on the trail. Beautiful woods on the plateua. Left from Red Rocks and went to Refuge Cove. For me the climbs out of the river valleys were tough but doable and were well worth it (my son had no problem). We enjoyed the place be sure to grab a bite to eat when you come out at Wild Caraway

A true multi day back country hike that is close enough to civilization that it isn't too intimidating for the beginner! Beautiful views and very peaceful.

We only got a glimpse of the whole park as it is pretty large, but we hike in camped at the closer campsite, it was about a 10min hike in up a steep hill, the view was worth it, the sites are nice and shaded with trees and plush grass. Would recommend this place if you are not ready for a full hike in.

Jennifer Burns

We just did a short walk from the trail to the beach. It is such a beautiful area overlooking the bay of Fundy. The staff was so approachable and gave us clear briefing of where we are. We had to register our car's plate number for accountability. I find this hiking area safe . Hoping to hike the 52 km. trail next year.

This is an outstanding hike (many spectacular views and beautiful stone beaches), though demanding -- particularly if you are planning on using a tent rather than one of the cabins (i.e. carrying lots of gear on one's back). We were blessed with good weather (sun, with only a little rain early the first morning). I highly recommend the use of hiking poles (no matter how geeky they may look). The trail out from the park entrance to Refugee Cove (about 12.3 km) goes over two VERY steep hills (steep up and steep down). Poles make the job going up much easier, and going down much safer (and easier). Also highly recommend using the Platypus filtration system -- very light, and can filter two liters of water in just a few minutes. Using it means that you always have lots of fresh water (there are a lot of creeks along the way), both for hydration and for cooking at the end of the day. We did the trip from the park entrance to the Eatonville exit in three days -- about 12.5 km each day. We were all reasonably fit 60 year olds but I think that was about our respective limit, at least given that we were carrying camping gear for five people for multiple nights. We did cross paths with a few runners who ran the entire loop (about 50 km) in a day, but they weren't carrying much. (We had two cars, and parked on at the Eatonville exit. That way you avoid a long hike along a gravel road through the forest - no doubt an easy hike, but long and with little to see other than dappled green).

My family did the 12 kilometers hike from the visitor centre to refugee cove in one day, and then came back the next. The trail: For the first section we cut off 1.5 km by going along the beach, and then up the stairs to the main trail. The climbing in and out of the gulches was extremely tiring. Going down into Mill Brook and Refugee Cove was a strait access road, with a 30 or more percent grade. This was the worst part of the trail. On the plateaus in between the coves and streams, were flat sections that were very enjoyable. The campsite: Our campsite was wonderful; RC3. Good flat spot to pitch the tent, shaded, and close to the outhouse. Unfortunately that cannot be said for all the sites, some had broken picnic benches (a luxury to have at all in the backcountry), and no spot for a tent. Best of all, there was a nice clear stream nearby for us to filter our water. Wrap up: Extremely challenging 24k return hike, some decent campsites.

This place is amazing! The trail can be a bit tough at times but the views are worth it!

There is a beautiful 5km hike from the visitor's center, through the forest and returning along the beach if you only have a couple hours to spend here. Very interesting geology. The climb up into the forest is moderate, but may be too demanding for some.

My partner and I completed a 51 KM thru-hike in the park. The paths were very well indicated and well maintained. We found the help provided at the front office quite useful and the service was prompt and professional. The campsites used by hikers were well maintained and worked well for our purposes. We had a fantastic experience overall. My only recommendation would be to come equipped for some muddy regions of path!

An amazingly beautiful park. There is a 50 km loop you can hike as an overnight backpacking trip and it takes you all along the rocky coast of the cape. I've only done part of it as a day hike, but the section I did had plenty of gorgeous coastal views. (There are also lots of hills, so make sure to keep that in mind when you plan your hike.) One other nice thing is it's not very well known, so you probably won't see too many other people while you are out. We saw only a couple people the entire day we were out hiking!

This is a great hike! Outstanding amount of scenery for a trail of this length. The trail has a few distinct sections: KM 1 - 18 from red rocks to the end of the cape is a mix of pretty easy forest trail and a few (3 main ones) big climbs, roughly 150-200 m each climb. The climbs are not technically difficult, but pretty steep grade. Views are limited on this section compared to the next part, but refugee cove has a nice beach and is a good camp spot. If you start by going to refugee cove day 1, you will get two good climbs in; one at km 3, and one at Mill Brook. But it gets easier after the climb out of Mill Brook.. KM 18-33 - the best views are found here on the western coast of the trail. Impressive cliffs and tons of views. The trail here is a bit more technically difficult (roots/some water/a few steep areas) and doesn't have many "cruisy" sections. KM 33-36 - moderate terrain into eatonville KM 37 - 48 - the 11 km woods stretch says on the map it takes 6.5 hours... but it took about 2.5 hrs and had some easy stretches. Mostly forest, a nice creek at times. You can cut some off the trail by taking the beach from red rocks pretty well any time that isn't within an hour of high tide. Recommended. My total moving time per my GPS was 13 hrs, 40 min; this was at a consistent pace. It can definitely take much longer, or for some (like the runner I saw on the trail..) shorter. Not sure if I got lucky, but hardly any bugs in June was a nice surprise. I wore non-waterproof shoes and that was the right call for me. Some wet stuff but easy walk arounds so no soakers on this one! Really hard to get lost on this one. Possible I guess, but good signage and clear trail.
