Very interesting and informative the house museum was great and the host working inside was cool dude

Sarah Scott

A really cool place to explore and one of the few I have found that speaks of the first nation culture in the area. The wonderful museum curator spoke of the culture that existed on the islands prior to the Zuckerberg family history which was greatly appreciated. The remnants of the pit houses dating back 3500 years were an extra special treat.

This park within Castlegar is worth a visit. It features a 473' long suspension bridge to access the island (though there is a road entrance you can walk for those who prefer). This small park has been an important place for thousands of years, and is a quiet, beautiful place to visit. There is a scenic walking path around the island where you can view the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers. There are Lakes Salish Indian winter pit house sites, who used used the island as a base from at least 2000 years ago to recent times. Also, there is a Russian Chapel house, built by Alexander Zuckerberg in 1935 (admission by donation). There are picnic tables and benches on the island to pause or enjoy lunch.

David Britton

Shondra Becker

Beautiful in summer and very relaxing listening to the birds.

Taryn Woods

Beautiful location, great short walk around the island with many lookout spots and picnic areas. The old house itself is gorgeous historical building with pretty surrounding area. Although the cable bridge is closed in the off-season, there is very easy access through a large dyke walkway. Highly recommended to burn off some energy. Plenty of dog off leash areas as well. Two thumbs up.

A must see in castlegar bc. Uniquely situated on a small island on the COLUMBIA RIVER. Offers lots of history & beauty of the island including Zuckerberg's home there. Accessible by a long suspension bridge which offers a great view of the area.not to missed including the Millennium Park just down trail from the bridge.

Beautiful park with a cool suspension bridge and great scenery. with little piece of history inside the house at the top of the hill, it had many Russian books, along with old fine china and children's toys. We came here for a wedding but were happily surprised with this location.

Zuckerberg Island is a beautiful, peaceful, serene gem in the heart of downtown Castlegar. Take your time and explore the many paths, and be sure to check out the chapel, cemetery and "stump lady". The island is accessible either by suspension bridge, or by a foot path - which is typically open as long as the water level is low (which it usually is these days). This park holds special memories for me as it is where my husband & I were wed. It's as beautiful now as it was then, if not moreso.

A secluded Castlegar historical house in a Russian kgizhi (?)style steps away from residential streets!

Adrien West (Rocky)

Great birding spot! Wish there was more emphasis on the traditional Sinixt use of this island on all the plaques and signs though. Everything is heavily white-washed. While the Doukhobor history here is certainly an integral part of this landscape, I think it's important to make sure that we present a balanced set of facts. Since there are so many pit house sites on this tiny island, it was clearly an important seasonal village for the indigenous people of this area. It would be wonderful if there were signs explaining and honoring these traditions!

Hard to get to but worth the trip! Grab a quick snack and coffee beforehand to enjoy while you're out here and enjoy a beautiful circle walk around the island! The house in the middle is the Alexander Zuckerberg House which is very scenic and a great place to snap a few memorable photos!

It is pretty and has remnants of First Nations pit houses. There is a cool wobbly bridge across the river. The only negative was I couldn't find an off leash area and, not being from here, I didn't know about the bear situation.

I am so drawn to this place, I come for a walk around this Island a lot. As you can tell I am very connected to this place and have taken a lot of beautiful pictures of this place. It is a must to come and visit when your in the area and get a really look at what Castlegar has to offer.. So beautiful in the summer time when all of the flowers are bloomed. And don’t forget to check out their historic 1918 year old school.!

Beautiful spot in town. Definitely a must see. Only a short walk from your vehicle.

Tsek Sloquet

It is a cool place to take kids because you cross a suspension bridge to get to the island. Then to walk the island is an eerie yet adventurous time. The graves of Mr and Mrs Zuckerberg are both on this island. That's what gives the eerie feeling yet all the trails are very fun and entertaining!!!

tim Rollheiser

Nice adventure!

The Zuckerberg home was a neat piece of history in a very pretty area along the Columbia River. The home was rather small and simple but there were some artifacts from the time the home was built that were interesting. The suspension bridge crossing the river to the island is a bit long in the tooth and could use some TLC but it's still serviceable and giod for a bouncy stroll.

Craig

Unique park that is well worth a visit. Nice 30min walk with the preserved homestead home to admire from the outside. Suspention bridge is closed during winter, but island is still accessible by a causeway

(Translated) More ancient and a tourist attraction. The swaying suspension bridge is a small feature but the environment is beautiful. It is a good place for punching cards. (Original) 比較古舊嘅一個遊景點 搖晃的吊橋 是一個小特色 但環境優美 是打卡的好地方
