REVIEWS OF Parks Canada Visitor Centre, Fortress of Louisbourg IN Louisbourg

Kevin Gillett

Exceeded our expectations. It was a wonderful experience and we spent 5 hours wandering around when we thought we were going to be there for two. The staff working there were top notch. We took the tour and really enjoyed our guide's explanations. This really isn't for young kids, but our 16 year old really appreciated it.

Shannon Svenson

Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable place to wait for bus to the fortress.

J Cline

Very informative. Plan for a whole day if you want to take everything in. Something for everyone.

Greg B

Had fun but need a whole day to see it

Chung-jung Lin

French and British colonial history with rebuilt buildings, dramatic folks and nice seaside view. The weather is very unpredictable , even worth it in the rainy foggy days.

Patrick Delay

Turned what we read about in history class into a real life event. Great stuff.

Mr.T

Great things to see and learn..you need a full day to see it all..so good

Jon Poulin

This is a great place to visit. Has many places and things to see. The food is alright nothing special but the atmosphere is good. Our server seemed inexperienced so that was a bit of bummer. They put on shows throughout the day which are entertaining. We took one of the tours but the tour was more of a glorified verbal map. At the start we heard a bit of the history then it just became pointing at buildings saying who lived there but not any stories. Overall a good why to spend a day.

Blaine Abbott

Super friendly and extremely helpful! Awesome experience all the way around!

Otmane Benali

Very nice service. The staff speak both french and english. Also, the guides and automated commentaries were in both french and english.

Chad Cromwell

Park your car, get your wrist band in the building, and hitch a ride on the included bus down to the fortress. The visitor centre has washrooms and vending machines.

Nick Manuel

Some nice exhibits and such. Mostly just where you wait for the bus to take you to the real attraction.

MANISH uppal

This was an amazing experience and it is so beautiful to come to know about the history .

Kristy McCoy

We've been to several living museum sites over the years. I didn't think they got better than Skansen in Sweden, but I think this one topped it for my new favorite. Even with a lot of people, it doesn't feel too crowded due to how large it is, and the period actors and actresses were fantastic.

Lisa Scott

Very well executed travel back in time.

Brett Binns

We spent a day and a half visiting everything including the Ruins Trail. Food and service were good at the up-scale restaurant and the rye/wheat bread from the bakery was excellent.

Arthur Ma

A must. Arrived early to catch the 11:45 am canon firing ceremony. Visitors are bused into the Fort. Require Parks Canada pass. If inclined, pack a light lunch. Lots of interesting historical stops within the fort.

Robert Bowers

Has a mailbox. Necessary stop but didn't add to our visit.

Jan MacKinnon

Stepping back in time. Excited to walk the fort, sample the food and taste the rum.

Richard Grumm

Good place to visit. Nice site.

Very great reenactments and interesting exhibits. Open areas for kids to play but watch out for them on the battlements.

This is a great place to visit for the day! On 17.60 Cad per adult and kids are free. Make sure to brong some cash as you can buy homemade bread from that era. A must in Cape Breton.

Margaret Canella

Wonderful period characters at Louisbourg! Great historical displays in the archive building. Awesome period meals in the restaurants. We spent a fabulous day thete!

Thomas Rogers

Keep in mind this is just a information centre and not the actual park. Admission to the Park is an extra charge. There is a series of displays, brochures and a small gift shop, but the gift shop does not sell the same goods as the one inside the fort, so keep that in mind!

Rosemin Patel

The view was gorgeous from the path. The historical society was quiet something and the staff was very knowledgeable. I wasn't too fond of the fact that they would go in and out of character mid sentence. But it was probably their way of keeping us on our toes. Lol

Jean-Yves xxd

Employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Great place to visit in family

Bob Lefebvre

Step back in time to 1747. Walk amongst the reconstructed buildings and talk to costumed interpreters going about life in the day. Plan on spending at least half a day here. Fabulous experience.

Jenna Beck

We came late in the afternoon around 3 so we didnt get to check out the whole place before they closed at 5. Pretty amazing site for what we did see. Shuttle bus takes you right down there.

Samiah Alam

Helpful staff, lots of resources available, and clean washrooms. You have to buy tickets or register (free for 2017) here and then take a bus to the Fortress right outside the visitor centre.

Andre Gauthier

A must see if you visit NS. The visit was outstanding.

Darwin Wark

Wonderful place with lots of history!

Geoffrey Gamble

Great place to visit for all the family, make sure you put enough time aside, it's a big site.

Kellie Tufts

Amazing. Absolutely stunning and so much fun!

Mario Calitri

A very big attraction, almost a mini city. To walk around in a fortress from the 1700's opens your eyes to how people lived.

Michelle Bresson

It was an awesome experience. We enjoyed the bread we bought there and we tried a drink of their rum last night when we got home and it was really smooth.

Melanie d'Entremont

I am in live with historic places. Last time I came here, I was a child. The place was still as awesome as ever. The only thing was it was pouring rain when we were here and I didn't have an umbrella, but the little gift shop has rain jackets and ponchos so it made it easy, the heavy fog gave it a mysterious look, only added to the beauty.

Jason Collin

Love this place excellent service from the staff and extremely knowledgeable.

Kendall Patterson

Fun place to step in and see how people lived way back in the day. Full of history and fun things for kids to do. If you family is into history at all I would recommend stopping here and take a look.

David Grossett

Great experience! A step back In time to a place of hard work and hard living. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth the price of admission.

The Clearys

This was our first time there. Very nice historic site. Will go back for sure. Great family spot.

Michael Conway

Admission a good value, especially US $. Professional and welcome staff.

Rick Harrison

We spent half a day here. I would have liked to spend more time, but unfortunately it began to rain in sheets. If I get the opportunity, I will return.

Ken Coupland

Very helpful staff...good selection pamphlets and inormation

Jewles Livingston

Such nice people. Great information.

Mark Bortis

A must see and a fun experience for the whole family. There are a lot of activities for all to be entertained. The two restaurants on site are fun and the food is great and wholesome. I would come to this again in a heart beat.

Mary Mkandawire

Very interesting. The 17th Century comes alive.

Jonathan Dibblee

This place was absolutely amazing! To bad it was raining. My reasoning for 3 stars was our waiter at the restaurant really seemed like she didn't want to be there.

Lesley MacIntosh

The visitor centre is great because it takes you back to the beginning with some artifacts. Then the bus rose to the Fortress.

Adam Nizynski

Nice little museum and gift shop while you wait

Adam Palmer

Awesome Fortress. According to reliable info. Parks Canada has successfully been able to rebuild 1/5th of the Fortress. Along with piecing together how people lived, what families lived and even managed to get stories of how this fortress operated before the seiges that brought the French to their heels, and allowing Cape Breton to be English. They have shops, foods, and all sorts of activities. The walking tour alone takes 3+ hrs. Bring water just in case. And don't forget sun block. You will need it. At the end. You will find yourself amazed at what you have seen, and you will be mind blown by all the rich info on both the history of the Fortress, and on the ways that we lived in the 1750s.

Leslie Whitney

This is a very big fortress which you get to step back in time. Plan to spend lots of time and dress for weather. Lots of outdoor walking. Bring lots of money. Bakery, buy fresh goods. Restaurant for eats. Taste the rum they made in the day. Lots of history learning for all ages. If disabled there are cart tours, check out times. Only a couple a day. You can even spend the night for a whole experience of the fort. It's worth checking out!

Roger LaForge

Great place to visit. A must when visiting the area. Plenty of history.

Pauline Mac Aulay

Absolutely beautiful

Tabatha Wadman

Love, love, love this place. Amazing history lesson. Super cheap admission. Worth the drive! For the best experience visit during their summer schedule ( starts July 1) The amount of activities and staff, reenactors etc. Increases favourably.
