Awesome short hike to do before you canoe through the canyon. You can do this as a day trip from Ottawa and canoe the canyon too but it will be a long day. This is with doing the canyon one way and shuttling cars. There is also a tom thomson scene in the canyon as well

Cool place very high cliff legs were shaking lol lot cool pic

Nice place. Price to visit the park is excessive compared to US parks. Day use$15 compared to $5. Not sure why we Canadians do this to ourselves. Overcharge for our tourism this sending us elswhare. A visit to BC $800 round trip price??? Or most places in the us $300 round trip. Silly really!

Kris Born

About 40km away from Petawawa, or 10km past the Sand Lake Gate in Algonquin park you will find this easy 1.3km trail, it maybe short but has some of the best lookouts and majestic scenery.

Scott Sanderson

Great view. Had a good time.

Niri R

Short hike, with small patch of gradient and beautiful views from the cliff, worth every step you take in this 1.5 km trail. Must visit

Don Muir

A little out of the way in the less visited Eastern side of Algonquin Park. Very beautiful canyon and river views after a short easy trail walk. My wife and I have had the pleasure of seeing the view from the top and from the water below. Something to try for.

Amit Warke

Nike hike to a beautiful canyon amidst a forest. Breathtaking cliffs. Probably a must see in the autumn.

Carl Cencig

One of the most scenic routes in the entire park! Beautiful view of the canyon at the top :)

Renee Lee Soprano

We went there on a rainy day. The canyon was surrounded by mists, creating a mysterious vibe. Remember that it's almost 3.5h drive from the Algonquin main area, so leave a day for this trail.

Bearded Builder Canada

All you can say is wow! It's a hell of a long drive to get there (2.5 hrs from the middle of Algonquin Park on Hwy 60) but well worth it. Breathtaking views. Cliff edge is super high and scary, so keep kids and pet away.

Ron Pritchard

Short hike, good for beginners

Less trafficked part of Algonquin as evidenced by the unpaved road to the this trail. Beautiful hike through the forest to the cliff edge overlooking the canyon waterway. Long stretch of trees line both sides of the steep ridges. Peaceful and still, aside the occasional canoer passing by below.

AnimationSky

Beautiful canyon! Made me feel like a kid again. It's a good place to go for the day, just make sure that you keep children, animals and yourself alert at all times because there are no guard rails or barriers to stop something from falling off the cliff.

Andy Fyon

Excellent hiking trail that is about 2 km long. Well maintained trail. Supurb views of the canyon. Be careful along the edge of the canyon. A fall would be fatal and there are no fences. The part of the trail through the mature Forrest is also magical. Visited June 27/18 and the bugs we're not too bad, but some will want insect repellent.

Very short hike to the look out, but beautiful scenery. I'm so happy to see there haven't been railings put up to spoil the raw beauty, and instead, there are warnings to watch your step and your kids. Amazing in this day and age! Deer flies were unbelievably bad (more so at High Falls trail) so dress appropriately.

Morgan Sanderson

Well maintained walking trail with plenty of parking and a great view at the top.

Saurabh “Illmaticz”

Make sure to bring some bug spray. Breathtaking views. Small hike. Totally worth it. I’d avoid driving a low profile vehicle to this place as the roads are unpaved.

A short trail with a good steep climb (not for those uninitiated to hills or heights) for the first half to spectacular 100m high (300ft) cliffs! Keep in mind there are no barriers or railings, so kids and pets need to be well minded while viewing the gorge from the top. There's many vantages to see the river, take some good photos and soak up the awesome sights. Trail rounds out with a gentler slope through the hardwood forest back to the trailhead parking.

Really great spot! We're not from around there and it was amazing to see everyting.

Alex XSW

Amazing trail. Beautiful viewpoints.

Jeff Wu

Gorgeous and breathtaking scenes in Algonquin Park. About 2.5 hrs drive from park's West Gate. But it worthes the time.

Shaun Stuckenberg

Really great trail. If you come with a stroller, don't. It's not completely stroller friendly, but manageable if you have to.

Excellent! Hiked this trail many years ago. Returned to hike it again and experience the ever amazing Barron canyon canoeing route. Can't wait to do it again.

Beautiful scenery! Really worth the drive. The hike itself isn't that long but those views will captivate you.

Great view, very fun and easy hiking trail

Ron Pringle

Nice walk great views be careful with small children steep drop offs

Gil Strachan

Nice hike, not too difficult- spectacular views! Convenient parking, not a big parking lot, but big enough for RVs if there's not too much traffic.

John Twynam

Short trail with beautiful views of the canyon. The trail itself was great, although it was really out in the middle of nowhere. There's no guardrail, but no fear of falling into the canyon if you're careful and use some common sense.

Joannie Thibeault

Simply amazing

B S

This is a great beginner trail for parents who want to introduce their young ones into trekking.

Incredible views!

Dawn Ledbetter

This is a beautiful, well-maintained trail with gorgeous canyon views. There was a map with information you could borrow for the hike, with the choice of returning it at the end or paying a small fee to keep it. Careful with small or active children- you can step right up to the canyon edge in several places (I didn't!).

Julio Eccheli

It was a bit hard to reach as the directions leading to Barron Canyon Rd aren't very clear. Bun once you find the road, everything gets better. Staff at the entrance wasn't much friendly. Maybe the park guard wasn't in a good day. Many cars were driving at high speed and unsafely, I feel bad for the wildlife that must be in constant danger because of that. The place itself is gorgeous. The river is so calm that it looks like a lake, giving us a chance to take amazing pictures.

Brent Kryda

Barron canyon is a beautiful site to behold, every bit on par with the Niagara gorge or even the canyons around Lake Superior. There are trail guides in English and French near the entrance for free use (or paid keeping) which explain the natural history of what you are seeing, but for the most part the setting itself will put any words to shame. Of particular note to the botanical minded is a bonus feature in the form of a rather extensive Eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) grove one passes through on the trail (pictured), and of course the cold climate species clinging to the south rock face in the persistent shade. If you are traveling the country across the trans-Canada highway and want to include Algonquin but don't want to stray too far off the beaten path of the route, this is a relatively easy jaunt from 17. For those more familiar with the 60 corridor looking to expand some windshield tourism beyond the crowds and venture in Algonquin east, this trail offers the perfect examples of the dramatic elevation changes and pine forests found in this part of the park.

Beautiful short trail over an impressive canyon. I go every couple of years and just took my one year old daughter who loved the views. There are no guardrails and you get right to the edge, so make sure you have the wee ones in a carrier or you're holding them!

Mike Flemig

Took less than 15mins to get to the lookout point. Amazing view, just kind of a bummer how short the trail was...doesn't feel as awarding. Highly worth checking out if youre in the area!

Jacob Diflorio

Took my breath away with its beauty

Bug City. I only gave it one star to get peoples attention. Went the end of June, the views are as described, fantastic but the bugs were horrible. We barely had enough time to take the photos before we ran back to the truck, bug spray in hand. Our dogs were covered in horse flies the whole trip. Do not come in bug season, it was not worth the drive.
