REVIEWS OF Esker Lakes Provincial Park IN Kirkland Lake

Absolutely loved the park

Damien Leader

Very nice park. 14 lakes for fishing portaging etc. Town is close by.

Heather Wilson

Loved this park! Beautiful! But... Leeches! Huge ones! Every lake we went in.

Bev Cordukes

Wonderful stay at Esker Lakes PP. We even extended our stay we enjoyed it so much. Lots of places for the dogs to access water including a dedicated dog beach and large play area. Nice shorter trails 1.5 kms in length for our senior dog to do with us. Longer trails for those who wish to portage, hike to remote sites. Not any significant cycling trails though. But this park is known for canoeing and fishing, not cycling. The highway leading into the park is very quiet so you could cycle this road but there is no shoulder. Trails are well-maintained. Staff at the park is excellent! If you needed food supplies like eggs, milk, bread, staples like this you cannot buy it at the park store. Very limited stock. Mostly chips, soft drinks. So stock up before you arrive.

Lovely campground. Nice private sites. Playground, canoes and paddle boarding. Very scenic. Prepare for mosquitoes though.

Robert Hunsberger

Beautiful, very small park. Quiet and peaceful.

Don Muir

Remote Provincial Park but welcomed by many as it is the only operating park around in this part of Northern Ontario. We found it welcoming and so family friendly. Caters a lot to the children. Lots of activities. Many sizes and types of campsites to choose from. Boat, canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals, any way you can think of getting on the water. Nice walking trails too. Our only sour point is that we had massive thunderstorms come through the both nights we were there???? But Ontario Parks can't do much about that.

Felix Lavoie

Very nice and quiet park, water was perfect to swim. The trekking is very easy. Lots of deer flies and mosquitoes. Bring off for sure!

Went here camping last summer. we are from whitby ontario and have traveled all around ontario to visit different parks and this one is defiantly one of our top 5 favorites. Trails, nice beaches, amazing fishing. All around a good park. Facilities are kept clean etc.. highly recommended

Benoit Bolduc

Nice family camping. There was a blueberry festival were we picked up some in a trail but there were also plenty on the roadsides of the campsite. Also nice beach.

Christina Savarie

Regina Bobzien

Beautiful Park which is off the regular main roads. Amazing trails, but a lot of mosquitos and black flies, we got eaten alive.

Brie Ann Duguay

Beautiful park. Camp site was great and the facilities were well taken care of.

Mark

Very quiet campground with large sites.

Page Bush

Super dissapointed, and mind blown that this park is rated so high. Just returned from a week long trip here. This park is extreamly poorly maintained, grass was extreamly long and over grown in ALL areas. Both beaches are very poor quality, to the point I was thankful the weather wasn't nice. We ventured into Swastika to enjoy the beach there which was much much nicer. There is no service at this park if you are needing to be connected to the world for whatever reason! The only thing this park has going for itself is the lakes for paddling and the relatively quietness considering most sites are seasonal campers.

Beautiful experience

This park was beautiful. The sites are a good size. The bugs weren't bad and the lake is gorgeous. Once you reach the main gate it is a 4km drive on a paved road to the gate house. No cell phone service is the only downfall but we found it relaxing knowing we could just forget about our phones (no news is good news) except for taking pictures.

Josh K

Great, clean, quiet camping experience in Northern Ontario. A real gem. Mosquitos as big as your face can be expected. Lots of patrolling happening in the park. We had a disabled camper who needed to be transported by vehicle to a neighbouring site and immediately a warden showed up to advise of the vehicle violation of 2 per site. Sort of tacky to not ask questions, and make demands. Otherwise it was a good experience.

Abo Alnasr Ontabli

Good provincial Park for camping and trials

Melida Monsalve

Gorgeous park for camping, the beaches aren't as nice but still a great time!

This park is all about paddling the interior IMO. I've been here several times over the years and it never disappoints thanks to the scenery, fishing, lakes and solitude. Camp on Lulu Lake as it is the best place to camp in the park lol. The portage trails going from Lallan Lake to Ramey to Gourlay to Lulu are straight forward and not difficult. Pack light lol. Once settled, I recommend heading to Mall and Pall lakes in the north section. Best fishing IMHO at those lakes for specks. West shore of Mall is dynamite. East shore of Pall is excellent. If you got the will, portage up further to Bea and Thrasher lakes. Its a heck of a hike, especially carrying a canoe and gear, but worth it. Small lakes with a few big surprises if you know what I mean haha. Gaf Lake has beauty colours and is a great spot for swimming. Seahorse lake is an interesting side excursion to paddle to as well. There is a neat old trappers cabin on Gourlay. Best tasting water I've ever drank in the lakes. No joke. The scenery is unreal. Not alot of rocks up that way. It was fun to see the topography up close. The campground looked clean and organized but I have never stayed in the campground, always backcountry. This park is a sweet spot for any camper/paddler. I definitely believe it is best experienced by going paddling on the interior lakes, even just for day outings.

Nice big sites many with hydro hookup. Dump station available. Water fill station . Lakes galore to kayak or canoe. Toilets were open with limited persons allowed to use due to Covid. Showers were closed also due to Covid concerns. Firewood available and fire-ring on each site. Half hour drive to nearest town .

Terrific week, pretty decent weather and a wonderful time all round. Its a lovely park with some stunning scenery and the water is clear as a bell. Staff is extremely friendly and most helpful and the warden's regular drive-bys are welcomed. The only negative, which is in no way reflective of the park at all, were the idiots in their trailer next to me. They were SO LOUD in everything they did, slamming doors, general conversation that could be heard 10 sites away. Non-stop, all day. They were just very inconsiderate but that every other campsite was great. Other than the idiots next to me, I had a super time and would recommend going there. Thanks to the staff!

Excellent park not far from Kirkland Lake. Large well maintained sites, great staff, very nice lake with couple beach areas for swimming, canoe rentals.

My family and I recently visited this provincial park. It was our first time. And WOW! We’re we blown away. It is a beautiful park with picturesque trails, full of wildlife and history. The campsites are large and private. They have a large assortment of canoes, kayaks and paddle boards for rent at reasonable prices as well. We will definitely be returning in the future.

(Translated) 3 nights camping at Esker Lakes earlier this week. The campsites are well separated from each other. We were in the tent section and there were only 3-4 other midweek camper families. Beautiful lake for canoeing, kayaking or pedal boating. Motor boats are prohibited. No cell signal in the park, except near the administrative office, not far from the entrance. The staff (most of the reception staff speak French) are friendly and courteous. Nice camping experience.

Great park , nice and quite. Loved the trails and beaches. We were on site 67 which was fantastic, close to the comfort station and to the beach. Privacy was good too. Park closes September 19th for the season so it was pretty much empty. Park staff , Jade in the office was super friendly and helpful. Loved this place. Worth the long drive from Mississauga.

Mike Ritzer

Very nice sites and lots of space between them.

Beautiful park. Only a few trails to walk. The kettle lakes are beautiful and on a clear night the sky just lights up with stars and the milky way is just visible. Super friendly staff. The portage routes are eroding and can be difficult in spots, but still usable if determined. Canoe rentals are at the front entrance and are for either 4 or 8 hrs and are only rented between 9am to 9pm. No overnight rentals allowed. This park lost a star because the comfort stations are outdated. Out of the 5 showers for the whole park, only one was decent. The other 4 showers are inside the washrooms (2 for women, 2 for men) but all were very small and awkward to use.

Great!
