Skeleton park has been a part of Kingston since before it was named Kingston. It has a very unique yet ery and scarey past which you can read about on one of the few plaques placed in and at the edges of the park. It is also said to be one of the SCARIEST parks in Kingston. Personally i have never seen any ghosts or eery happenings here at night, but if feeling like your not alone when there is no one to actually been seen anywhere and the hair on the back of your neck standing up on end, is any indication of there being ghostly haunts here then yes I have felt this way many a times after dark in this park. The play ground is great. Providing activities for every age and stage of childhood, as well as areas to stretch out in the grass and read your favorite book, or simply look up at the clouds and day dream. Any way you look at it not stopping by this park to read about its history and enjoy its natural beauty would be a crying Shame.

It is a small but just right size park for the area it is in. There is a wade there with a life guard and a small play area for the little ones to play. A city hired program in the summer for kids to have doing crafts and games. Not to many picnic tables but there is plenty benches to sit on and relax. Between summer to winter there is plenty of little things going on for all ages.. from two skating rinks .. a movie in the park ..events from the arts to plays..

Nice park and a very beautiful park as there are many parks here in Kingston this is a very beautiful place. Great for a family day or picnic if you are wanting to have. Normally I would give it 5 stars but the park has been torn up and blocked off for so long with absolutely no progress on finishing the upgrades people are starting to become so inpatient and tear the fences down and using what equipment is standing anyway ???? wish they would just get the upgrades finished and take the fence down before someone gets hurt

In the park, you never know you were walking on Tombstones and graves that were buried more hundred(s) years ago, if you don't know the history.

mike serson (Mike the bum)

Mike the bum says: this park has been on ghost hunting shows, as 10,000 people are still buried there... in the 1960s and 70s queens and rmc would meet here and fight... gang kind of like behavior... In winter, when cold enough, they have skating, and in summer a wading pool for little kids, festivals, shade from summer heat...

Whitney Shantz

Bathroom was disgusting. I had to ask my 3.5 year old to put his hands in his pockets and not touch anything for fear that he may accidentally touch used drug paraphernalia (nothing visible). I was very thankful I had my 1 year old strapped into the carrier, otherwise I could not have gone inside (and would have found another bathroom had we not just spent 20 minutes trying to find a publicly accessible washroom). I was also thankful that I was wearing running shoes, as stuff kept crunching underneath my shoes (not sure if plastic or glass). The park itself was ok, but nothing to write home about.

McBurney Park, better known as Skeleton Park, was one time a City cemetery on the outskirts of Kingston. When City growth caught up with the cemetery, the decision was made to dig up the graves and move them further out of town. This decision was easier said than done and led to an awful mess with the associated sights and smells. The decision was made to close everything up, knock over the remaining gravestones, cover everything up with earth and plant trees. Unfortunately, human bones would periodically work their way up to the surface and hence the alternative name, Skeleton Park. Today, McBurney Park is a busy, inner city park and by day, the site of a lovely playground and periodic, entertaining musical festivals. Night is different. Some say luminous shapes are sometimes apparent but they could be just escaping gases from former gravesites.

Where do you start? The great play structures or the thousands of bodies just beneath the surface? Cool little park in a very artsy neighborhood. Each summer it is home to a huge arts festival with a lot of great local bands playing. It is also built over an old graveyard whose bodies have been preserved in the clay soil. So fun and creepy to sum up.

This is a fantastic park for kids to play at. The playground is surrounded by huge trees that provide much needed shade on a hot day, it has older style play structures that are actually useful and fun - unlike the new parks that have useless plastic objects that look interesting but offer very little. The park has sand instead of wood chips which is also great for kids who enjoy building sand castles, etc. But by far the best part is the wading pool that has a couple of bins of toys for kids to grab toys from for use in the water. I have two young children who hate splash pads but have a blast in the wading pool. I hope Kingston never pulls it out.

It's ok. It is not well looked after. There is a play area for children which is nice but it's a very lack luster park. This is a shame because although there are permanent signs explaining the history of this park, it doesn't seem that many people stop to read it. This park should have more, pardon the phrase "life to it" (because this park began as a cemetery). This park is steeped in rich history, it has had many names over the years (this point is very difficult to find on the signs in this park). This information should be more evident and better marked on the signs. More benches would be nice. More importantly there should be more landscaping done to enhance this park. This is a tourist attraction and like many tourist areas in this city, it looks like it has been forgotten. The city could add more greenery in different heights/colour/size. Instead the city just does nothing because new ideas come to Kingston to be dismissed (die). The city needs to do a better job embracing new ideas, making these tourist areas pretty. But in order to have things done in this city you have to know someone. Hopefully, the parks department will do something so this park doesn't look like a barren wasteland. It's terrible the city officials have let this happen
