Beautiful & family friendly hike through a small part of B.C. history.
I really enjoyed the natural beauty and incredible history surrounding these tunnels. It was a nice relaxing and easy walk.
Amazing place to visit
So beautiful! Just amazing views and really nice walk. The trail is super clean, just really dusty, great for families, but if you have a stroller it can be a little bit awkward to push at points. You are aloud to bring dogs-this is awesome. There are also a lot of places to stop and sit if you need, and garbage cans :)
Different and pretty. Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, or Othello Tunnels near Hope, BC , is focused on the canyon of the Coquihalla River and a decommissioned railway grade, now a walking trail, leading eventually to Coquihalla Pass. Originally part of the Kettle Valley Railway, five tunnels and a series of bridges follow a relatively straight line through the gorge, which is lined with sheer, flat rock cliffs.
I have experienced a different world while walking through the tunnels....I highly recommend to visit this place.
Beautiful park and walk. Easy for all ages.
Google maps says the tunnel is closed. But, it's closed at the further end, so u can walk through tunnels till the further end and return. It will be dark inside the tunnel. Better to carry a flashlight for safety. Also there will be water seeping inside the tunnel, but it's not pouring.
Nice short trail through old tunnels, beautiful river and rocks around
Absolutely beautiful place. The Othello tunnels trail is stunning. Very glad I decided to go!
Loved the walk-through tunnels and the surrounding area. A beautiful day made the views that much more spectacular. Some areas in the tunnel get dark, others have water dripping down and loose gravel so you shouldn't try to cycle thru. Take time to learn about the amazing history of this place. Definitely coming back with the family as it is a pretty flat walk not too long at all. Would highly recommend it for all ages, you need to see it at least once.
Fabulous hiking trails, lots of history here!
Best place to visit . Tunnels are really the best part to see . Along with this , the river makes the scene awesome.
Very cool! Tunnels are cool
Rambo First Blood was filmed here years ago. The canyon and woods, a short drive from Hope which was also used for the film. Crystal clear water and a long set of tunnels for the old railroad that once passed thru herr. Easy hike and great canyon views
Beautiful location. Nice hike othello tunnels are a must see
Great park and the Othello tunnels are epic.
The Othello tunnels is a short walk through a very scenic canyon. This is an old railroad grade trail very friendly even to those who can't do a more stenuous route. The river is awesome, and the old tunnels are a sight worth seeing ,walking through them takes you back in history. The tunnels are dark but short enough that they can be navigated even if you do not have a flashlight although carrying one is highly recommended.
A lovely trail with tunnels. Fun for kids.
Great hike for families and kids. An easy level terrain with beautiful wilderness and spectacular views. The tunnels from the old train route are neat to walk through and provide just enough spookiness for some fun. The path is really easy and no major inclines. The parking lot does fill up and there are only the outhouses at the beginning. Overall a great place to hike
About a 3 km walk to the tunnels from the parking lot, along the railroad grade, wide trail. The tunnels are fantastic! Don't miss this if you have a chance. The River gorge bridges between tunnels are also beautiful and an amazing feat of engineering back at the turn of the century.
Gorgeous vistas and easy ealk
Amazing history. Incredible scenery. Great way to unplug.
So fun for the kids. And then a swim in Kawkawa Lake
Beautiful place with tunnels and waterfalls. Went to a little hike at the end before coming back. The place is quite crowded with family and visitors though.
It is just splendid & too beautiful to admired.
Gorgeous, well kept trails that take you through old railway tunnels. We went on the hottest day of the year, and really enjoyed the coolness the tunnels provided!
A must see for the water and canyons. Have a youtube video of this great place.
Hometown of Rambo: First Blood. Its a small town with a lot of beautiful views and lots of activities.
A great place to visit with kids! The tunnels are fantastic and the canyon is just gorgeous. An easy, stroller-friendly walk (though some of the bridges are narrow). Bring your phone and/or a flashlight.
Other than the fact that is was super busy and crowded it was absolutely beautiful. Really nice and peaceful walk and so much to see and explore. Kids had a great time.
It makes me happy every time I go here.
The amount of times I have driven by Hope in my lifetime and never stopped here is just silly. Finally make the easy detour heading from Vancouver to Kamloops. An hour well spent discovering the history and engineering marvel of the Othello Tunnels. Great stop to shake out the legs on a west coast road trip.
Great place for a day outing and a bit of exploring. Some nice train tunnels to walk through.
Interesting stop to make if traveling the Coquihalla. Short walk in the woods then through the four tunnels. Bring a flashlight if you don't like the dark.
Quiet and peaceful. Bring you portable BBQ and stay the day.
Lovely afternoon walk through the tunnels. Loved sitting by the river in the sunshine. Parking can be difficult, arriving mid afternoon the car park was full. We hit a spot after about 10 mins.
Beautiful! Very nice walk. The tunnels are so historic. The nature is so amazing.
Amazing park and unique experience walking through the tunnels. Well worth stopping to see.
A really interesting experience, at how hard people worked so we could have what we have today.
Great for all ages.
The Park is easily accessible from the highway - it was very crowded when we got there on a weekend in July - but the crowd thins out if you continue hiking into the lush forest trails past the tunnels. The canyon views are breathtaking. Recommended hike.
Water view, great, and there is a secret down hill trail to the water, at the last tunnel entry.
Awesome place to take a quick break when driving the highway. Also, you can say you visited the place where they filmed the iconic and classic First Blood! #Rambokicksass
Absolutely love the tunnels. My girls love it too. ????
Love this place so go somewhere else plz ????
We are have great time there.
Cool place to visit
Amazing place to visit. If you are in Canada and haven’t seen it yet, means you are not in Canada. This is really beautiful
This is an awesome walking path. Definitely recommend it if you are in the area. It is a nice short hike.
A beautiful place to visit. However, it is too fas from GVA.
On a warm sunny day it is so refreshing to walk the gentle incline of the Kettle Valley railway trail , through the dark and cool tunnels carved through solid bedrock , and along side of the Nicolum river's rushing roiling waters
Very cool piece of Canadian history. Gates are closed until later this spring though.
Been driving my for years, and never stopped as we buzzed by the highway. This time, we took the kids and dog for a walk through the Othello Tunnels, a dip in the Coquihalla River, and lunch at the parking lot. The tunnels, which cut through the canyon, and bridges connecting them were an interesting site. The area was pet friendly, with both dogs on and off leash. It's busy! Keep that in mind, as campers (designated sites near by) and transient visitors on their road trip do stop in.
Great spot to enjoy an easy hike in the outdoors and see some cool history too.
Another area in BC to see. simply amazing
A great place to visit. It can be a nice easy stroll. The paths are wide so it's ideal for families, groups, or just keeping your distance. Such a beautiful spot to visit AND a bit of history as well!!
The tunnels are really something to see. It’s a really nice walk threw the tunnels with a hiking trail at the end, that goes back to the parking stalls. The hike is very easy.
Beautiful place. Great access, wonderful views
Amazing stop on the way to Vancouver. Great quick walk through the tunnels. Parking was the only downside on a busy weekend.
What a beautiful place to visit with stunning views. This reminds me a lot about Hua-Lian and the east coast of Taiwan, where I used to visit as a kid. Can't believe I've only discovered this place after decades in BC. I would highly recommend!
A fun family walk back in time. The historic tunnels, the river and the rock formations of the canyon is awesome. Should come early as parking is limited. Kawkawa lake is a good location to stop, rest and unpack your food for a hungry stomach.
Well renowned for a stunning 5-tunnel trail, this is definitely an amazing attraction worth visitors' go-and-back for one hour or so to enjoy water roaring and rushing through Coquihalla River's narrowest section and the awesome granite tunnels. Even the trail from parking lot to the tunnels is quite relaxing and therapeutic.
A best place to spend time with family surrounded by nature!
Fabulous place! It's completely worth the trip.
The Hope-Nicola loop is a beautiful hike, not too challenging that ends at the Othello tunnels.
This place is so peaceful, but needs to have little food arcades so that people can enjoy hot meals too.
Easy to get to, clean and supplied outhouses. Of course it's beautiful and lunch on the picnic benches was the cherry on top.
Beautiful
Great place to visit.
Absolutely stunning . Very busy at weekends in summer. Avoid long weekends due to crowds. Family friendly , dog friendly.
Great little park just outside hope. Easy walk and the tunnels and trestles are amazing. Make sure you park properly as on the weekends the tow truck lives there.
Nice park with enough parking spaces. The trail was good. Walking through the tunnels was a good experience.
Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park ⛰Othello Tunnels Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, popularly called the Othello Tunnels is a provincial park located near Hope, British Columbia focused on the canyon of the Coquihalla River and a decommissioned railway grade, now a walking trail, leading eventually to Coquihalla Pass. Originally part of the Kettle Valley Railway, five tunnels and a series of bridges follow a relatively straight line through the gorge, which is lined with sheer, flat rock cliffs. In the early 90's, the Canadian Pacific Railway decided to connect the Kootenays with the southern coast of British Columbia, and it was decided that the best option was a route through the Coquihalla Gorge. Nowadays, the path has been restored as part of the Kettle Valley Railway Trail and no longer has any railway tracks. It is known for its gradual change in elevation. The location of the Othello tunnels near the convergence of several historic trails--the Hudson's Bay Company brigade trail, the Dewdney Trail and the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail--has both historical and recreational importance. These early trails assisted in the opening up of the province for settlement and resource extraction beginning in the late 1840s. The Hope-Nicola Trail is now a popular hiking route. The tunnels are the most important visitor attraction in the Hope area, representing both an economic and interpretive opportunity for the town of Hope. A destination for local and regional outdoors groups, the tunnels, park and trails are valued for the recreational opportunities they provide local citizens and tourists for viewing, walking, picnicking, photography and fishing. The site is also important for its extensive use by the film industry (the most well-known film being 'First Blood') and for the establishment of visitor facilities by the Hope Chamber of Commerce through a Canada Works Grant prior to the area being designated a recreation area. ⚠️TUNNELS & TRAIL Please Respect & Help to Preserve this Historical and Ecologically Sensitive Area by: - Using Garbage Containers - Staying on Trails - Reduce Noise Keep your Pets Restrained. Amazing place to visit! Breathtaking! The history behind these tunnels is amazing!
Visited the Othello Tunnels, not too crowded and Parking was easy to find
Great mild hike for all ages shapes and sizes. Phenomenal views and great history lesson
I can't believe it took me so long to find out about this place! Everything is beautiful! The water, the mountains, the rocks, cliffs, and of course the Othello Tunnels!
"McCulloch's Wonder" This place was awesome. Was plenty of parking in the shoulder season. Great historical railroad significance here. Can't help marvel at what they accomplished back at the turn of the century. Highly recommend. Was a very easy 10-15 min walk to the beginning of the tunnels from the parking lot.
The Othello tunnels are worth a stop if you are coming back or heading to the interior. Great history lesson and amazing scenery. It's a short flat walk and you won't be disappointed.
Great park + Tunnles, just nog very many benches for the elderly, and the bathrooms could use some more upkeep
Beautiful scenery as well as an important part of Western history. U just feel different kind of relaxation walking through one of the best nature and man made wonders. So much greenery and the freshness of the air. The sound of the river bouncing off the canyon just makes the best no instrument music ever. I can literally spend all day there jus exploring woods and water and just listen to the water and nature's sounds. Simply just love it!!!
Great stop off in Hope if you're driving through the area. The walk is only about 1km so it was the perfect stop to stretch our legs and checkout a BC gem. The tunnels are well maintained and kept and it's not very busy on the weekdays. The area has lots of parking and very clean bathrooms and for the most part people are great at keeping the area clean and devoid of trash. Definitely check it out as it's beautiful and serene!
Breathtaking walk through the canyons and tunnels. One of a kind experience.
Loved the unique tunnels and the fast gushing water underneath. Not crowded and provided many opportunities to relax and take a long walk. Many places available to sit along the way.
Good place to explore the history. Weekends are busy, only a few parking spot left when arrived around 9am.
Its well worth the visit
Easy hike. Go half way (through the tunnels and head back.) Or continue on and finish the loop. The tunnel portion is packed gravel and loose gravel. You can take a large wheel stroller. There are some uneven ground in the tunnels but doable. Tooka three year old who enjoyed going through using a small flashlight. Beautiful views mixed with some history. If you p ly have 1-2 hours this is a nice stop.
Such a beautiful creation..had a great time with the whole fam.
It's really worth to visit place. Breathtaking
It's a fairly short walk. My family and I enjoy the walk and there are very pretty views. There are picnic tables in the parking lot which is nice.
Nice hike from end to end on this trail. Follows the old Kettle Valley Railway route and although much is on a grade, it isn't too steep. The trail travels through a rock cut and parallels the Coquihalla river for most of the route. The east end has several old train tunnels and bridges over roaring water and is quite spectacular.
A very beautiful walk. Walking through those long tunnels is amazing with spectacular views between sections!
It is worth watching but not with small kids because roads are not paved and you have to walk about 1.5-2 km to see all three tunnels. If you ate going to see then take your runner or any comfortable shoes with you . Views are awesome .
So beautiful in every season. A must see through out the year
This place is spectacular. This has to be one of the most beautiful trails I have ever done. Spectacular views, amazing tunnels, a beautiful river and a incredible boreal forest. The walk to the tunnels is super easy. The only downside about this place is that it can get EXTREMELY crowded. Keep your children in sight.
Nice place to visit. Very poor directions on road
Love the signage, the tunnels are surreal. I disliked the number of flashlights in the tunnels, as it took away from the special exp of being in near total darkness in the middle of the day. Also, on the way back there was a boulder that wasn't there on the way through. A bit scary.
A great place to take the whole family. It's an easy walk. No big hills. At least for the tunnel portion.
Fun and easy walk with the family. The tunnels are cool to see, we brought flashlights for the kids. Google maps tried to take us on quite the drive but we just followed road signs
Great hike up the back side of the othello tunnels. Learned something new about the history of the KVR. Beautiful views
Great our door space with plenty of room for everyone. Othello tunnels extremely interesting to walk through, reasonable one hour or so trail for average people. Fantastic view to the valley and river below.
It’s fully open right now, cool place to visit.
This park contains the Othello Tunnels and the beginning of the Kettle Valley Trail. It has some nice hiking, biking and walks. Expect parking to be difficult, but the hike is nice. The main trail is wide and strong, it's the old railway tracks, after all. It is good to walk along even when it's busy, and nicely built for bikes where there are fewer tourists. We hiked one of the smaller trails, up and around the small mountain in the middle of the park. It was a little steep in places, but it was a nice hike. You are spending the whole time in the forest - there are no big open lookouts that you can see for miles from. It is a nice forest, though, and the shade helps in the summer. I'd suggest eating in the parking lot as there are no tables on the trails and no garbage cans. --You will have to carry out all of your garbage from the trails, too, don't leave it behind!!!-- There are some outhouses where the trail meets the parking lot. They were pretty clean and not stinky; nicely maintained.
Great park showcasing the railroad history in British Columbia. Really cool tunnels to walk through. Bring a flashlight to ensure you can see where your walking as the ground is a little uneven in the tunnels. Very cool views of the river and canyon. Very short walk from the parking lot. Definitely worth a visit. Can get very busy on a hot summer day though.
A beautiful place to visit. My family enjoyed at this place alot.
Beautiful site. Always love going here. It was busy but was fairly spaced out between groups. Parking was a challenge, but still ok. It would be nice if there was a sign for the pathways after the tunnels. Would help to decide the length you want to go and if something is there you want to see.
One of my favourite stops either to Vancouver or from or just for the heck of it. Be sure to read all of the signs explaining the history; the accomplishments and the losses. Take a light jacket some runners and continue past the tunnels for a bit of a hike/walk and don't forget your lunch!
Short walk. Well worth the time. Amazing scenery
Really interesting scenery between the tunnels and the river . A couple of moderate level hiking trails. All in all a nice place to spend a day
Good place to visit and stroll with families and dogs.
Beautiful place.
A very nice park, so cool inside the tunnel and so great to listen the waterfalls's huge sound surrounded by huge rocks, you can forget all your worries and unhappy inside there.
Wow. What a great little surprise. Easy walk choice of turning back after 1 km or going the full 3km. Beautiful scenery, well maintained. Picnic tables in the parking area to enjoy a snack. Only challenge is finding parking if you get there later in the day.
Gorgeous views, has something for someone at any level of skill, from simple walks to full scrambles.
Sheer natural beauty of this spot is worth the visit as are the tunnels. Road in is rough and steep and although we made in a 30ft motorhome, might be a challenge pulling a larger trailer. Sign advising that car thieves at work in the parking lot was rather odd - but we enjoyed our visit.
Was nice and clean, definitely get there earlier to get parking. If you can get there during the week it is slower
Great place to go walking outdoors. Beautiful trail through the old train tunnels along the river.
Nice easy walk. Good escape on a hot day!
While this is somewhat off of the beaten path, the tunnels are obviously popular for hikers, walkers and cyclists. A big bonus on a 39C day was the access to the cool water of the adjacent river.
Beautiful place! Loved the quick hike to the tunnels. Sad that the gates were closed, but due to falling rock hazards. So you can't control nature! We enjoyed what we could from it.
If you need to get over your fear of dark places, these tunnels will aid you in overcoming those fears. If you need to get over your fears of heights over water, these bridges will dissolve your worries. Experience the wonder of these man made tunnels. You can feel the ancient historical spirits as you wander through the area. A beautiful but short walk with history. Amazing views of the river. Clean facilities.
First time visiting this place, nice walk and the tunnels and surrounding area is amazing.
Very good place to stroll with your family and friends.
Remember Rambo First Blood movie Sylvester Stallone I think in the 80's. Part of the movie was filmed here in Hope.,B.C. It has different sections of Tunnels & Railways. Gorge is stunning views the best time to see the raging water is in June or spring time when rain & ice melts. I've been here a few times but still my favorite stop. It's not far from the highway follow Othello Rd. only 2 minutes.
It is very nice walk and learn more history about it.
Such a pretty outing! Great day trip from Vancouver
Great place to stretch your legs on the way in or out of Vancouver area.
It’s a great place and enjoyable experienced with family and friends.
Beautiful and exciting walk. Great historical landmark that is a bc must see. Easy to get to off the highway and easy walk that majority of people will find manageable
