This place is beautiful. Large playground, great space for families and their dogs. I love that there is a large section just for unleash dogs. I love the writings on the metal along the walking trail that is paved. It also has handicap accessible parking. Very lovely and I hear it's a great place to go and watch fireworks

Curtis Pennell

Nice spot with a dog park area, though it's not totally fenced in, so not ideal for some dogs.

Great park with two different types of scenery. An open field with old buildings and cannons. The other is a set of paths in the woods leading down to the water.

Great local park. A real bell tower, pretty trees to sit under, half an American football field, a baseball diamond and an off-leash dog park where friendly locals gather. North end at its best.

There is a new look at Fort Needham Park, located on a hill overlooking Halifax Harbour. It was recently given a new , more modern, more friendly look. I like it. The playground is a treat for kids of all ages with lots of fun things to explore. The kids can hide, climb, slide and run around. For parents and walkers, you can enter the park from several sides. There us free parking. You can park and stroll while thinking of the horror if the Halifax Explosion in 1917. This hill was witness to the disaster and today you can find some monuments reminding us of that sad happening. Now the memorial is more modern and respectful of those who perished or were blinded and injured on that day in 1917. It is a great place to visit.

Tyler Guest

I've only been to this park twice, but I'd like to go more often. The landscape is different; Higher Ground. The park looks over the northern most area of the Halifax Harbour and its components are literally made up of relics from the Halifax Explosion. As you walk down the path that lines the field and the all wooden playground - your peripherals are sobered by the surrounding centuries-old Steel that lines your walkway. See dates, names, and ship memorials as you round the north turn. Fort Needham is a beautiful gem hidden in the North End of Halifax. Go enjoy it for yourself!

Aubrey Reid

Nice park.

Nicole Webb

Such a great spot to learn about history and it has the coolest playground around!

Grant Lamontagne

With lots of greenspace for your four-legged friends to run around off leash and a wood chipped playground with new equipment for children of all ages to enjoy, the historic Fort Needham Memorial Park is a gem in Halifax's North End, and offers a beautiful view of the harbour while commemorating the Halifax Explosion of 1917.

This is a hidden nice park sitting on a small hill in the north end of Halifax. Great for a leisure stroll with your friends or family on a beautiful sunny day and escape the hustle and bustle of the city life. The bell tower monument represents the victim who lost their lives in the Halifax Explosion a hundred years ago. You can overlook the view across the Halifax harbour and see part of Dartmouth downtown.

Recently upgraded park. The landscaping has been improved to tell the story of the Halifax explosion. Steel retaining walls are engraved with statistics about the people and ships involved in the disaster. Accessable parking can be found at the south end of the park near the new wooden playground. A large field is available at the top of the hill that is popular with dog owners.

This park is up on the hill with a nice view of the north end of Halifax Harbour. There is a children's playground, a dog area, and some playing fields, but the unexpected part for me is the carillon honouring the Halifax Explosion. A very appropriate tribute, considering that the area the park is in was pretty much flattened by the explosion.

Jenn Embree

Louise Tattersall

Am yet to fully explore the entirety of the park, but so far it's lovely. For my sporty friends, there is a great set of stairs here which are perfect for step running (it's shaded too so big bonus). The bells are lovely and the gardens are super well kept. There's a nice play park for families and lots of dogs on walks :)

A somber place to reflect on the folly of war and the suffering of the innocent. Most of the victims of the Halifax Explosion of December 1917 were children; thousands of miles from the front and believed to be safe from the horrors of WW1.

We arrived as the bells chimed 10am, it was really nice. Wonderful natural playground made out of logs and wooden structures and a big field to run around. My daughter wants to keep going back to it. She especially liked the rock climbing wall that once on top, you can go down a slide to come back down. Did that more than a few times!

Beautiful park, stunning view, excellent kids play area. The only thing lacking is some public bathrooms nearby and maybe a food stand in the summertime.

One of the nicest parks in the city of Halifax. It is dedicated to the Halifax Explosion in WWI 1917. The bells in the exhibition are rung each year in respect of those lost in the explosion. It has information on the vessels involved with the Explosion. Placed along the pathway through the park. There are nice benches where one can sit and ponder on the peace and values that we are aloud to live in our times. Our parents, grandparents and grea grandparents went to participate in various wars so our children can live their lives in peace. We thank them for their beliefs to create a world of freedom for all.

Wonderful natural playground area. Tons to explore for children of all ages.

Shawn McLeod

People friendly, dog friendly. High in the land so it is great for sunsets and fireworks. Flat sports fields, cages tennis courts... Nice place to play.

Blair Allen

Great park, not a great dog park. Giving this park 3 stars feels a little hypocritical seeing how much I go there, but as far as dog parks go it is not ideal. It is nice that it is secluded atop a hill and so offers great views and lots of space. There are playgrounds, sporting fields, plaques to read, a path to run, and an area deemed the dog park. That dog park area is not fenced in, which I feel affects all of the other aspects of the park. If your dog is reasonably well behaved and can handle people running, biking, scootering, or skateboarding by then everything should be alright.

Roman Malik

Need more renovation for public attraction

Nice for what it is. A urban park tucked, like many of Halifax's parks, inside a residential area of the city. There is well maintained stairs and paths as well as nice plaques and monuments referencing the Halifax explosion. There is a dig friendly "off leash" zone that is a nice touch for dog owners. A small play ground that i didn't use but looked serviceable. It's not local to me so i dont know how often i would return with so many other parks to explore but it was nice to visit.
