Packed beach, can't swim with all the teenagers drinking and smoking... Not a good spot for young kids.. . Unless you go really early in the morning, its not a beach for kids anymore.

Great lake. It's man made so you don't have to worry about the icky grass at the bottom! It also gets really deep really quick which is surprising. Hate the dirt on the shore though. Not fun

Love this park and especially the lake. It’s the most beautiful lake in the heart of Halifax. The park has great washrooms, a playground for kids, a basketball court and a tennis court. There is a beach for swimming and it is a popular place for the community during the hotter weather.

Nice little park and beach. There are wash/change rooms, a tennis court, and a little playground for kids. No dogs allowed at any time sign on the beach, although I saw 2 when I was there. There is a parking area. Be careful if you walk there, it is a busy intersection right outside the park!

I like this lake, beach is small, parking lot is chaos (don't park in there on sunny days). Location is great, good facilities, water is warmer then other lakes (still cold though). For more privacy I recommend going to Long Lake.

Chocolate lake is nice! Water is significantly warmer than the nearby ocean (My two year old enjoyed the water at the start of September) and the beach is quite nice (though it's not that soft and a little gritty so bring a soft plush blanket). No food vendors or anything like that so bring your own grub. All in all a fantastic little spot.

Loved this beach but the negative point is that its too small. Water is warm and clear during summers and beach can be extremely crowded sometimes. Parking can be a bit of pain during peak seasons but you can park somewhereon street. Lake could be deceiving as shallow but it could be deep at some places so be cautious if you can't swim. Overall a good spot for summer.

Although a tad small (don't come flocking here from all parts of the city, please, lol)... BUT, i love the vibe: it;s children-oriented, QUITE well maintained, and has a lovely sandy beach to play on, or just sit and enjoy the ambiance. The lake is MUCH cleaner now than it used to be: its not very deep so it is prone to becoming easily contaminated... but it's been cleaned up considerably in recent years. On a hot summer day, a lovely little spot right next to the city to get away at, and have a good swim or just relax.

Not a huge beach but close to the downtown core of Halifax. A decent sized parking lot that can get full though but there is lots of Street parking just a minute walks away. Water is normally always warm (in the proper months) and clean and clear

Chocolate Lake is a great lake to go for a swim in, or a nice sandy beach to just lounge around in. The sandy space is fairly small so you'll have to make sure to get there early. The lake is an old mine, and is fairly lifeless. It feels like you're swimming in a giant swimming pool. Great if you're not a fan of seaweed and other gross lake creatures.

The place is beautiful and the water is among the cleanest. It has the crystalline blue water you can get . Warning: The shore depth is deceptive and gets deep with in few places.

The beach is pretty rocky and on the small side. The water is also default lake water so its meh but it is a beach and its close so if all you want is to swim than it checks the boxes. If you are looking for a nice beach literally any other beach is nicer than this if the water is swimable.

Quite a beautiful lake and surrounding area, however the water was disgusting. It smelled bad and the water felt overall gross. I wouldn't entirely recommend it, however it seems to be a very popular lake, so I would have to think many people think the water isn't gross.

Although parking can be a struggle on busy days for those traveling by car as the lot is a bit smaller , this is a fantastic family spot! Swimming, playground and bathrooms and ballcourt ! We walk and I know the bus stops are right next to it . We have no complaints

chocolate lake is a halifax staple. located right at the rotary it is easily accessible for those who don’t have a car with a few bus options. walking distance from halifax shopping centre as well (30mins) the bathroom/changing facilities are usually relatively clean and there are lifeguards on site for most of the day. the lake itself is super clean and usually warm. it can get quite crowded during the day but still enjoyable.
