REVIEWS OF Officers' Square Provincial Heritage Place IN Fredericton

Papa joe

Square for over 40 years I hope the city don't ruin with the renovations

Dee King

In the winter months, they build a small skating area for public skates. Great spot for little family picnics, no8 BBQ'S. They host events throughout the year, especially Summertime. Canada Day, Harvest festival and outdoor theater and other activities. Bring you own lawnchair for outdoor entertainment. Visit the Officers Museum for a small fee. Popular place for mini photo shoots, there are public washrooms on site. In the downtown core and handy to local coffee shops, food establishments and shopping. Under some renovations to upgrade the outdoor space.

M Bartlett

If u come to Fredericton then u have to go see the big frog at the museum

Paul Ryan

Beautiful night for a skate :)

Shawn David

Nice place to vist if you are in Freddy. I can hear bag pipes.

Brian Macdonald

Officer's Square has been the centre of Fredericton since the early days. Once used to muster troops, it is now a home to concerts, festivals and other activities that help bring the city together. The Fredericton Guard provide daily displays in summer to recreate the Infantry School Corps founded here in 1883. Be sure to visit the Fredericton Region Museum that tells the story of Fredericton, from our First Nations, the Acadians, the Loyalists, the War of 1812, the First World War, through to the present day.

Troy Coburn

A nice spot, needs a more modern layout to the place and less trees.

Jamie Johansen

Hung out here for a bit in the shade and watched the Calithumpian summer kids put on their summer show. It was cute and I admire the kids for putting on so many shows (7 days a week!) and running drama camps for younger kids. The changing of the guard is always nice to see. There seems to be something happening all the time in this square. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town.

D B

Lovely open space in downtown Fredericton, wish they'd get the refurbished railing done though.

Cameron Arsenault

Great historical demonstration by cadets with muskets at the same as the food/art market.

Irusik Hunchyk

I like this Park. It's like a magnet for the whole city. I love the big tree in the middle of the square. All the best happens here. You can always meet here interesting people and friends.

AliKat YEG

This is a pretty square in summer and fall. I was here on Canada Day and it was packed.

Akshay Yadav

Great place to run, sit and relax.

Thomas Li

Stars look great. I highly recommend this place and love the trails.

Jon Poulin

There are 3 shows a day of officers doing formations. It is interesting and they give you an opportunity at the end to take pictures with them. Good for the little ones.

Arthur Taylor

We attended Fredericton Pride Family Day. They had art activities and a story time. Fun afternoon with the community.

Jason Jeandron

As a twice designated National Historic Site and twice designated Provincial Heritage Place, it is sorely lacking in historic interpretation and looks neglected. Holding the history of the Wolastoqiyik and the birth of the City of Fredericton and The Royal Canadian Regiment, so much could be done to attract visitors and locals alike.

Chris Stewart

A staple of the Fredericton waterfront.

Chris Johnston

Quaint downtown park. There is always events happening in the summer. Don't forget Harvest Jazz & Blues in September! Come winter, spend some time skating.

Jessica MacFadzen-Reid

The concerts and plays here are always great. Skating in the winter. Officer square us always a place to stop by and visit when visiting Fredericton. Changing of the guards at noon with cannon fire.

Emma Poulin

Daily free historic shows.

Martyn Forbes

Looking scruffy right now but normally a good space. Let's hope it doesn't get ruined with the proposed "upgrade".

Colin Rice

Good spot to hang out at, working free wifi, my go-to meeting spot for going downtown.

Daniel Naiman

It's a nice place to do city events but can be organized better.

Malcolm Elliott

A little wet this time of year but pretty great all around. Hopefully it will dry out before harvest.

Jamie Jim

Great free concerts last night with the Barra McNeil's!

Andrew N. Byrne

Officer's Square gets 5 stars, not necessarily because the park has a lot going on, but because of the various activities that take place throughout the year. Skating during the winter, Canada Day celebrations, live music, food trucks, next door to the Night Market, The Calithumpians, student day, and the Fredericton Museum. So many fun times to be had.

Tnt Geauvreau

Check out Ramona indigenous gallery, was amazing ????

Soheil P

A great place for ice skating in winter. Also, a lot of local shows going on over summer.

Corey Boudreau

Went to see Jake Allen and Lord Stanley. I was there early enough to be able to stand under the tents that were put up. Nice spot.

Stephanie Fournier

I love going here for different events. Its such a beautiful area and the people are friendly and helpful.

Pauline Watson- Beaulieu

Always something going on for all ages. Plenty of sun, shady spots. Really a great meeting place for all ages.

Keith Stiles

Lovely wee park in the heart of downtown. Can't wait until the revamp is finished

Andrew Cater

Lovely place to listen to bagpipes and have a picnic. Great view of the river and one of the downtown main streets of fredericton. If you're a tourist, check it out. Apparently they have a giant stuffed frog somewhere inside the museum.

Chris Wintersgill

Love coming down for events in the city or on a sunny day to enjoy downtown.

SMO SinkUnit

Very interesting

Brendan Stack

This square is very well covered in most of the ads one sees for Fredericton. They have The Changing of the Guard in Old British Redcoat uniforms. They have concerts or other activities practically every weekend throughout the summer. It is in a very nice safe area with lots of small interesting shops in the immediate vicinity as well as a major Library, gallery and theater. No free parking

Whiskeyjack Explorations

I love history. If I can stop anywhere, it's a history location. When I was in Fredericton back in 2019, we stop here to see this place. They had a show going on, which was really great.

Kevin Jackson

I visited early in the summer, so there were no special events or features in the square, just construction crews, the museum, some placards and a patch of grass, statues and benches. I spent a couple of interesting hours in the museum and wandering the square. Looking at the posters and materials I am sure it is a vibrant place in summer, with re-enactments and festivals. I think you will find more interesting architecture and substance just up the street where the art museum is, in restored buildings that look more like the barracks and other historic military outposts.

Catherine Graham

We enjoyed our time in this historic park. It was nice to be walking around downtown and be able stop here for a little break. We also got to take in the 3DCanada150 sign.

Jose Dias

Nice little place. A few photo ops and there was a jazz show going on.

ClaireKitty5

Beautiful part of downtown fredericton. Gets crowded with pokemon go players and tourist during summer . Fun ice skating outside during winter. I do believe some bands play there during the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival. Sad that it's being renovated from what I hear but not sure if they've done it yet or it's for another year

MadHatterPlushies

Had a ton of fun at the Pride fair. There's always great events at the square and the pokestops make for an awesome little community to hang out with.

Starleana Rose

Watched the Tragically Hip concert here. Was fantastic that the city of Fredericton set this up. Loved this idea.

Melissa McGraw

It's going to look great when it's all completely finished! Always a great place to enjoy the festivities of Fredericton with family and friends!

Melynda Jarratt

History comes to life in Officers' Square! A busy space year round, especially in the summer with daily performances by costumed guards wearing clothing from the 1883 Infantry School. Fredericton Region Museum overlooks the park, open daily during the summer season and in the off season.

Steven Hill

If you appreciate history and the roots of Canada, then you will enjoy the little offerings this place has to offer, along with some of the still standing buildings from when this region was originally settled. They also host reenactments of changing of the guard, something to watch and hear (because the gunpowder rifles can get loud!).

Paul Juhnke

Beautiful place to hang out downtown on a summer day, or a summer evening of Movie Under The Stars -- awesome view of the St John River...lots of shade from the hot sun if you need it -- very sad to hear those big historic gorgeous trees may not be there much longer, so enjoy them now before progress takes them away.

Paul Bernard Jr.

Such a shame they got rid of the historical fencing here and replaced it with a chain linked fence... More of a mobile home park feel now than anything.

Christopher McAdam

Beautiful location lots of outdoor shows all year round great family fun

Olivia Stewart

Interesting space. We liked the walking bridge and lighthouse. Enjoyed viewing the old buildings and park. Shaded areas are appreciated when it’s very hot.

Ajit Thakkar

There are free concerts every Tuesday and Thursday evening during the summer. It brings a fair number of people out. You are bound to run into people you know. if you are from out of town, there is the changing of the guard to watch and the small city museum to visit.

Teresa Justason

Beautiful spot for the Soulsa Festival.

Lily Bird Vanderquack

Great time here for Pride! Nice location.

Ben Todd-Sweezey

5/5 before they destroyed some of it, it is still a nice park and some people over-react to the situation, but it will be interesting to see the finished product, my review will be changed then

Steve Gilby

Lots of history to learn there.

David Beck

Nice area to spend time with family and friends. Lots of nice stores around to check out.

Sam Westfield

Awesome spot to skate in the winter. Well maintained. Prime spot for events in the summer. Always stuff going on here.

Nick Boyko

Nice place to sit or to walk around. The city puts on some good shows in the summer, and the changing of the guard is fun to watch.

Kimberley Wilcox

So much fun! Always something fun to do here with the family. ❤

Matthew Branton

The beauty of officers square is its history, and the fact it allows locals a gathering spot to relax and mingle amongst each other. I’ve always admired to old history to the square, it’s statues and old iron fencing. It’s sad to see a portion of the fence be removed, but the park still has it’s beautiful old trees, and it’s rustic comfort. I’d love for Fredericton to provide more local gathering spots like this, it’s a great place to meet people, relax after work/dinner, and view events.

Maher Al-Rawwaf

As usual at phenomenal place to be in, in Fredericton for any Gathering that the city has or outdoor activities

Brad Wilson

Great place to relax and to go for special events! Look forward to future renovations.

Corie Stilwell

Our family had a great time at officers square skating and socializing today . Thank you to the city for all the great things this city has to offer.

Sandra Hall

Love visiting the museum there amd watching the guard do their parade is a fantastic experience for every age to see.

Rachel Jenkins

A very beautiful historical spot im Fredericton that hosts lots of great events. It was nicer when more of the huge old trees were standing, hopefully at some point new ones will be replanted.

Heather Henderson

Fun downtown area on the river. Lots of good nightley events. Very clean and well maintained

Eric N

Beautiful historic property! Gorgeous trees for one, if the city stops cutting them down!!!:(

Alistair Norris

Officers square is off the main Street in Fredericton. Hard to miss in many ways thanks to its illuminated Canada sign. It host on a daily basis the changing of the guard and on a dry day would be a great place to shelter from the sun and keep cool.

CCF

Nothing special about this place unless you are highly interested with war history. We enjoyed the try-on costume experience and the people working at this place are very welcoming

Nury Lopez

It's good but expensive for the size of the museum

Rod Doe

Nice spot in downtown Fredericton. A free amateur play was being performed at the time. Lawn could use a little TLC however.

Aditya Roshan

A small community place for Frederictorians. Visit Fredericton.ca for events. Major events Canada day, New Brunswick day, multicultural day, harvest jazz and blue festival. The place is at the heart of downtown with easy access to dining, coffee, river and trails.

Roger Chatterton

It's under construction for the past two years. Removed some of the beautiful trees. Digging up the ground. Destroying our military heritage to put in a kid's splash pad and other non military items. Relocated the statues that were there to another place in the city. A terrible injustice to those who have served then and now.

travis bradstreet

Was awesome when they brought classified here

Mike Lint

Great spot to hangout with friends! Lots of events usually happen within officers square

Phil Williams

Wonderful speech by Steve Burns about his lovely wife. A wonderful song.

Tina Denton

Great little park. We were visiting from saint John and we found some painted rocks. We are gonna take them home and hide them in our parks

Rene Alfonso Figueroa Leiva

Good experience, we learned a lot, few guys to explain the history of new brunswick

Real Time Recoveries

Great history to this location tired to the War of 1812. Features an outdoor open skating rink in the winter, Movies Under the Stars throughout the summer and fall, Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival every fall, and outdoor concerts throughout the summer. Excellent green space to hang out with friends and family and throw a frisbee or play catch.

faith thibault

Beautiful park. Had a great time at pride.

Leslie Whitney

Neat place. Always something going on in the square for sure in summer, in entertainment. Museum open too!

FlashBack1337

Great stories of local history. Renovation going on right now to make things more public friendly.

Kc Slater

Such a cool little place of history... great place to waste day learning local history even cooler at harvest time

Jeremy McKinley

There is often entertainment scheduled here including music, plays, and the changing of the guard. Also a good spot for a picnic in the summer. During winter there is an outdoor skating rink.

Глеб Лаврентиев

It's a nice place in the downtown of Fredericton. Kind of like a park but not that much trees. Festivals are really common to occur there

Greg Fidler

Nice place to stop for a picnic in the warmer months.
