Best public pool area I've been to, complete with large change rooms, steam room, sauna, high dive 2 large pools and multiple small rides and slides for the kids. The gym is well equipped with Life fitness equipment, layed out similar to most GoodLife gyms, the locker rooms are large with proprietary locking mechanisms that require a relatively large gym lock to work(a small cable lock won't do the trick). The place is well maintained and the staff is capable, the gym desk staff in particular are extremely inviting, professional and knowledgable. If you need to escape the stress of Fort Mac work life, Mac Island is the place to be.

This is a great facility for family fun. Includes a water park, library, workout facilities, badminton courts, basketball, etc. The pictures are from the hiking trail on the island. Day passes for the family of four is $30 and is worth it. You can come and go as you like throughout the day.

MacDonald Island park's uses span over a multitude of genres. The building has a pool, curling rink, hockey/skating rink, a presentation room (typically used for concerts, though one can tell that the room wasn't made for concerts. Honestly, I'm surprised Fort McMurray doesn't have better concert facilities), and several other family-friendly activities. Prices, appeal, and entertainment facilities are all very impressive, however, I have one issue, which are the washroom facilities. However, dirty bathrooms are to be expected in a public area. Great place for the family, I'd recommend it if you're visiting Fort McMurray (for whatever obscure reason) or simply haven't checked it out.

Love the 50 m pool. Temperature is nice and cold for competitive swimming. (Except during summertime.) It uses a modern filteration system, however there are currents in pool that can make for an uneven swim. The change room design feels like it is straight out of the 1950's. Only coin lockers :-( The 50 m pool is unfortunately cut in half for most of the time. Steam room is not worth going to. The dry sauna usually has the temperature set too low. But when the pool is configured to 50 metres and the water temperature is nice and cool, all the short comings are forgotten.

Fantastic facility! I only visited here briefly but I was immediately impressed by the amenities- I mostly interacted with the library staff and took in the art gallery and both were extremely high quality. The library facilities were very very good and the staff was friendly and helpful, and the art gallery was quite remarkable as well. However, the most important part of any good multi-use community facility like this is the atmosphere, and that can only be formed if the place is actually in use! And MacDonald Island Park is clearly a community hub for a variety of interests, activities, and groups! The water park looked fun and was packed! The library had poetry reading events and people playing chess and reading all over! The halls were full of people walking, chatting and relaxing. Fort MacMurray should be proud to both have and animate such a tremendous site, and I'm sure if I got to spend more time in it it'd earn that fifth star.

Be sure to lock up your stuff if you are leaving it unattended to go swimming or what ever. Person I went with had everything from an unlocked locker stolen from his locker shirt, shoes, pants and even underwear! This place seems pretty over priced but they have a lot of great stuff here. Just be sure to lock up your gear.

The forward moving progress that MacDonald Island has made is amazing. I have been here 6 years now and I am pleased with how far the facility has come. Of course there may be a few annoyances but really there is that much to do I would hardly notice the small things that may have bothered me. If I have presented a problem to the staff and showed respect while doing so they have always been more than friendly and helpful. If you have a problem with not enough room for badminton or swimming lane clutter or overly crowed climbing facilities then all you need to do is adjust your schedule, because the way I figure it, if someone else is using it, they are probably enjoying it, and isn’t that the whole point of having a world class, community oriented facility like this?

The pool is AMAZING. Wasn’t informed about needing a code to get in but realized it was on the wrist band .. the whole island is beautiful . The only negative thing I would say is that they don’t have memberships for the kids for childminding.. you have to pay 5$/HALF hour per kid. In Edmonton at the rec Center I was paying 40$/month per kid for 2.5hours a day of child minding .

Love the staff here as they are welcoming and helpful. Just updated the cardio equipment as well which was needed. They have made great efforts to upgrade the flooring and change rooms to get rid of the smell.... Is working! Overall this place is great and a jem in Fort McMurray.

Crazy how much work they put into this place! It's no wonder that its one of the only things to do in Fort McMurray. It's a little on the pricey side if your only going to be able to go a handful of time per month. That was the major disappointment along with that the basketball court is small and the rock climbing wall is basically pathetic. Yes it looks cool from a distance or in the photos but it fills up way too fast, way to small, the routes aren't well planned and are confusing to follow sometimes. However those are small problems compared to the height that you can boulder to and the requirements to be able to use the non-auto belay systems. It would be nice to see an upgrade to both of those parts, then I might buy a pass. On a side note the pool is great, I love the hot tubs and the slides are quite fun.

I really loved the park because of the amazing employees first of all. They have a very huge parking area, so parking is not an issue. They have a lot of fun activities and facilities. You can become a member as membership is available and cheap to obtain. Going in the swimming pools and on the waterside were my best experiences

This is an amazing rec center. This place offers everything to do with recreational activities. I was very surprised that a place like Fort McMurray has such an elaborate center with so many things to do. I visited my gf who lives in Fort Mac from Pickering, ON and she took me here to workout one night. I'm not even sure everything this place has to offer but it has a gym, multiple swimming pool areas, a water park!, ice rink, an area where people were playing volleyball, where you can also do a lot more things I'm sure. Was only in Fort Mac for a week so I only went here once, but I would highly recommend this place for anyone in the area to go to. Staff was great as well. At least the people we dealt with.

This place is a huge recreation center and has almost everything. It's perfect for families and kids. There is a swimming pool, water park, Gym, indoor field, running track, ice hockey rink, curling, squash fields, etc. and also a two story library. The library is loaded with all kids stuff at the first floor and there is almost everything in the second floor including personal computer station, magazine, audio books, chess table, puzzle table, etc. You can enjoy all day in this recreation center and don't get bored.

Macdonald island..a family Centre but leave the family at home! A week ago I went skating on the outdoor rink with my 1 month old son who is in a car seat and in a stroller which was said to be okay. Last night we go again. After paying to go skating not even 5 minutes we are asked to leave because we can not have the stroller on the ice. (They seen my son in the stroller) We called to have the issue resolved and the reception staff was useless and didn't help our situation at all. I can say I will not be bringing my family there to go skating or anything else for that matter.

I'm from out of town and did a little bit of "gym shopping" in the city. I knew I would want to swim especially during the summer so it made sense to choose this gym. I typically use the weight lifting area, track, pool, and waterslides. The change room is always empty so you'll never feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of classes they offer and a couple free ones for members. Just ask! The only thing I wish they did have are Stairmasters (since I used it a lot at my old gym) Overall I really like this gym and would reccomend it.

The facilities are reasonably nice and there is definitely a lot to do. The indoor playground for children could be a bit better..but overall is safe, fun, and my son still enjoys it. The pool is a great size and has an awesome kids area, a lazy river, two hot tubs, two waterslides, a full size lane swimming pool as well as two other small pools and a great kids play area.

I would highly recommend johsep have a talking to about people's personal space and information he can ask from customers. This is simply the best community centre in all of Canada. There is none better. Indoor water park, Olympic size pool, large smaller family pool, adult hot tub, kids and family warm hot tub, not one but 2 huge water slides, splashed and kiddy water slide and water play structure, lazy river , saunas dry and steam. Not to mention the 3 ice rinks, 4 curling sheets , climbing wall, large weight room, cardio area, fitness class rooms, 2 indoor hard floor gyms, indoor running track, food vendors, indoor kids play areas, multiple change Rooms. So much more I can’t even keep typing. Check it out if you haven’t been yet.

Delivered an Otis elevator to the Suncor Community Center. .....have been going to Fort McMurray Ab . for over 20 years delivering goods and didn't even know this was where the sports plex and arena s, ball diamonds and golf course was situated. I was talking to an employee from the Community Center who told me her experience during the wildfire the year before, this area was the Fire Headquarters and muster point for the firefighters and equipment. .....I am glad it was not affected.

Beautiful modern facility. The pool area is great for lane swimming, diving, or letting kids play in the water park. The gym is well equipped and clean, and the change rooms are immaculate. There are always staff around, and it feels like a safe and secure environment. The walking areas around the park are well kept, and there is ample parking.

I’m sorry that I should give one star to the facility until you troubleshoot the air conditioning system of the facility. I’ve been a member here since 2013 and the facility always have a poor AC system. During winter is cold especially the library and during summer the gym is actually not usable. Staff are very friendly and facility is mostly clean. If they fix the heating and cooling system it is a 5 star facility.

A great place for a family but at this yogurt place the customer service is horrible. I took my son the other day for a yogurt and there were two Filipinos who were behind the counter talking to each other. We stood there for about 1 minute before they start talking our orders. I found that's very ignorant. Beyond that bad experience the MIP is great place to exercise, swim, reading books and for your mental health.

When there is basketball theres only two nets in the entire place. Now that the YMCA is closed WE NEED A DWDICATED GYM FOR BASKETBALL 4 NETS WOULD BE IDEAL.

My experience at McDonald I own part is awesome. I have just moved to the River Park Glin April 4. I am a 50-year-old male actually 54. I am out of shape I need to get back into shape and I’m looking for a fitness trainer someone who can move me forward so I can get back on track. I am writing my bike every day downtown and uptown. I do not need a vehicle because I am riding my bike. Also I do have a bone to pick with you guys. You do not allow smoking inside of the building in Mack Island. But when I park my bike I am in the smoking area people who come to and from the building in Mac island are in the smoking area please put up signs and keep smokers back and away from the building.. yes so maybe just venting I am so happy to be here in working here but in the next few months or so Justin Trudeau has that pot smokers smoke where they one. Unfortunately the front of your building will be filled with pot smokers young children men and women will have to walk through or Wayne through the smell of smoke and pot smoking please give this some consideration there should not be no smoking on the premises of Mac island. I've been coming to this mac island for the last 6 years, just for the gym, and today, I just had to leave, country music playing ??? The worse was hearing lost boy peter pan by ruth b, I mean everyone stoped and couldn't believe what was playing, wish the gym could have something more energy kind of music cause this is what this gym is for, no slow music that should relax you, I relax at home! at the gym we need music to get us going, yes bring headphones but sometimes I don't always have them on me
