As an American, this was the first time I have ever stayed at a Provincial park. I do prefer state parks in the US over private parks, and Strathgartney was more than I anticipated. We stayed on the ridge overlooking the rest of the park, and on a cIear night we were able to see the Confederation bridge all lit up. The park was a large part of making our our trip of a lifetime a dream trip instead of a nightmare,

Trail mapping is terrible and gets you lost. Ended up in a farm somewhere and had to walk back along the highway. Dreadful experience.

I always prefer Strathgartney in the am when the sun is coming up, and Bonshaw in the PM when the sun is going down.

The roadside gravel lot is open 24/7 and is a nice little overlook into a serene and peaceful valley with a hint of sea view. Very nice for a break dusk till dawn. The actual park is down a narrow and quite bad condition road. So go slow and be careful... Avoid with very low ground clearance vehicles. It gets worse as you traverse it, especially after or going around to the lower parking area. The lower park proper has the facilities and park areas and what not. That closes quite promptly around 9pm. They come do a sweep and lock the gate up near the top of the hill. Very polite and kind staff warned us they were closing up as they came through. We stopped and made coffee in the morning and took advantage of the calm and serene visage.

Gorgeous trails through hilly terrain, going along the river. Some areas of the trail have a lot of roots and rocks making for more difficult footing.

Wide but uneven hiking trails. Boots or hiking shoes recommended. Kids would enjoy but strollers will struggle. For a Provincial Park more signage is needed. Although, it is well beaten down. Pls see my photos as you'll nees to watch your footing. Animals seen: Chipmunks, ducks, cranes, and blue jays. Dogs are welcomed and if you get to the Goat Trail during high tide, they'll enjoy a splash in the river below. Enjoy.

Its a very nice park but so many green spaces with charcoal pits and no picnic tables. It's set up for frisbee golf but the park is on a steep hill. There's a few geocaches in the park to snag and a playground set.

Beautiful park but signage is significantly lacking. I am not an amateur and was closelt dollowing signs. I still got very lost on a short hike with my toddler and it was quite stressful until a nearby neighbour helped us out. He indicated that many hikers had arrived panicked on his doorstep.
