This Park is included in the category of State park.
Writing on Stone Provincial Park is an extremely unique landscape in Southern Alberta. It feels like you walked into an old western film. As well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also a fun area to walk around and explore. This is a very sacred place to the Blackfoot peoples and has a lot of history. The writing in the rock is known to tell stories and is also a way to communicate with the spirits.
This is seriously one of the most amazing parks in Alberta. The campground is down in a cottonwood oasis next to Milk River. The entire campground is surrounded by giant hoodoos with petrographs and trailheads start right in the campground. There are also multiple locations around the campground and further down the trails for launching tubes to float down the river. You can hop off at the beach and start again! Clean showers and toilets, complete with a small general store! Incredible place for families.
What a great park!! We were there Easter weekend so the info center was closed, however lots of signage to keep you informed. Trails between the hoodoo's were easy to navigate. The campground also looked good.
Pick a date and just drive! It's SO worth it! Beautiful sweeping landscapes, rattlesnakes, and standing on rumbling grounds where great warriors fought and died! Oh it's thrilling! 10 stars!
Easily in the top ten of campsites I've used. How can you fit a spacious, well-serviced campground *inside* a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Somehow they did it here. It's an easy trek up through the hoodoos to the Interpetive Center overlooking the valley. Amazingly, children are allowed (encouraged) to climb these rocks. A terrific hike is the Hoodoo trail starting from the oversize parking look on the NW side. Take the interpretive guide with you to identify numbered viewpoints. The campsite itself is modern with serviced and unserviced sites well spread apart. Beach, playground, camp store and showers complete the experience. Conservation officers patrol frequently so things are quiet.
Beautiful place and fun trails to walk. Stunning night sky
Took my family hiking here on the Thanksgiving weekend in October. The fall colors and landscape at this time of the year are amazing!! Another bonus...don't need to worry about the rattlesnakes at his time either :) Hiked the self-guided 2.5 km trail to see the Battle Scene petroglyphs. An incredible piece of preserved history!! I'm always in awe when I visit this place :) I enjoy coming to this place anytime...but the Fall is still my favorite!
Mind blowing hoodoos, and seeing the writing is amazing!! Probably one of the best sites to visit in Alberta!
Guided tours are highly recommended! Very cool place, worth the trip.
Lovely park with a couple of nice hikes. It's small so 1 night here is probably enough. Do the guided petroglyphs tour in the private part of the park - it's great!
Beautiful views and Campground! Would recommend for day trips ????
This place is magical. I will cherish the experience and the time I got to spend with an elder of the Blackfoot First Nation who said a prayer in his native language (Siksiká). He also guided us to do our tobacco offering in a respectful manner. I am troubled by the vandalism on the rocks in the area that is free to the public. I am also troubled by the offerings placed in that area that are stolen. It is really unfortunate that people feel the need to disrespect such sacred land and culture.
Really really cool hidden gem. Loads of places to go on quick hikes and explore the hoodoos. Can't wait to go in the warmer months.
One of the best places to bring your family in Southern Alberta!
Such a cool place to see. We had so much fun climbing over the hoodos and then walking along the river.
It was beautifull, i really loved it,. The weather was so nice that day. It was a cool hike and we could climb on the rocks.
Without a doubt this is one of the most amazing campground in Canada. Situated in a valley between the Milk River and a sprouting of rocky hills on the prairies, the scenery is spectacular. There are many serviced and unserviced sites from which to choose — with quite a few right by the banks of the river. It’s a popular place so I would recommend making a reservation. If you want quiet avoid the sites near the entrance and the ones near the group camping areas.
Very nice campground and interestingscenery. We were sorry we only booked 1 night. There was a mama deer and her 3 fawns who were coming and going. Super cute.
Great place for family camping. Hoodoos are amazing as is the rest of the views.
What a beautiful park which is sacred to the First Nations.
One of our favorite places to spend the day hiking. Great campground as well just be aware of the size of your unit and the restrictions of staying here.
Amazing place. Never seen anything like it. The interpretive centre is great for kids and adults. We loved it. Didn't go on the tour to see the actual writing, but even just stopping in and looking around is worth the time. Make sure you go right on the way in, at the sign pointing towards the viewpoint, there's a staircase at the end of that drive that looks out over the whole place.
The place was so amazing, it' very quite, it's good for relaxing and for family bonding. the camp ground was so good and beach water was clean.
The Hoodoos are incredible! We hiked from the information centre till the RCMP post view point. Just be aware with your path, you may come across snakes occasionally.
Staying in campground without cell or Wi-Fi ???? reception was great way to rest from modern world. Taking a evening tour, booked with park centre friendly staff, had show us native history secret site dated 10000 years. It was special privilege to have Blackfoot nation people taking same tour and park guide who is so passionate about narrative history, they got our full attention. Then on secret ground, offering to ancestors and song echoed in river valley brought us closer to Blackfoot tribe. Alberta land and sky was magic on that hot summer sunset. Unforgettable experience beyond words.
We arrived at 1130am from Lethbridge to the visitor centre. They have a really nice restrooms on site. Plus a water bottle filling station inside to the left of the centre As it was a weekday we had missed the 10:00am guided tour and the next one was not until 2:00pm. The info desk was manned by a couple lovely ladies, who gave us a map for the Hoodoo Trail. We were told that there was no entrance fee. We headed off on the designated trail down to the campground and onto the Hoodoo trail. I got to say that it was a most enjoyable and thought provoking hike. We were a bit disappointed to see that a cage had to be installed to prevent further graffiti doing harm the the main writing on Stone features. I sure hope that MARY is happy with herself for defacing it.. Anyways, we headed up to the observation lookout and saw a rattle snake in the grass. A most majestic specimen to say the least. From the observation point you can see the NWMP station, which had been rebuilt for the RCMP's 100 anniversary down on the south side of the river. There are informative placards up on the hill explaining quite a few things, which was highly appreciated. Instead of hiking back along the Hoodoo trail to the info centre, we walked back along the road and were thankful for the breeze that gave us a bit of a respite from the sun and heat.
It has been a while since we visited the park, it has had some updates which are nice, remember it is a sacred place to the Blackfoot so treat it as such. Facilities are clean, good signage for a casual walk and kid friendly.
This campground and park is a must see in southern Alberta. The campground is always very busy, but if you’re able to come mid week in the summer you are likely to be able to find a site for a few nights in a row. The hiking is incredible as you were able to access trails through the hoodoos or if you are a kid you just make your own way! One of our favourite things to do by far is to kayak or raft or even inner tube down the lazy Milk River. There are river maps at the campground to show you where you can enter and exit to the river for your float. Or if you have little kids you can enter the river on one side of the campground and float in the river until you get to the beach. Then you get out and run to the other side and float back again! The views along the cliffs and coulees are absolutely stunning from the river. Do you be aware that some years or later in the summer the river level becomes too low to float so do you be sure to check the river levels if you are planning to be on the river. The hoodoos also get very hot during midday in the summer, so if you plan to hike or explore in the hoodoos it is best to do it earlier in the morning or into the evening. Or you might even want to hike at both times because the different sunlight makes it look so different.
No interesting stone writings without guide but amazing landscape. Definitely worth the drive.
Very nice Provincial Park. Nice, treed campsites. Nice 5km (return) hike through the hoodoos. Access to Milk River with a small sandy beach. Nice visitor center at the park entrance.
Awesome place. I highly recommend it. Desert like atmosphere, ancient sandstone rock formations. The kids couldn't get enough of it.
My Be All End All, I absolutely love this park, from it’s amazing history to the mind blowing hiking/Trekking possibilities this park has to offer. Writing on Stone Provincial Park will take you back in time... Trek through the hoodoos and get a different view everytime. I am a wanderer by nature, from Algonquin Provincial Park, Cypress hills Interprovincial Park and even Peggy’s Cove, I’ve experienced nothing quite like this on my adventures across Canada.
Very special place, definitely worth a visit
Great place to visit with the family. Campground is clean with excellent amenities.
historical site and amazing place that must see Beautiful Alberta‼️
Beautiful location, the family had so much fun at the beach area, not sand but muck, I would bring water shoes if I were to go back. You can rent a tube or bring your own and do a "lazy river". Very enjoyable, I did this with my 3yo and had a blast. The only reason for the lack of 5 stars is their website needs updating. When we went the trails were closed, they are open now, and their website said nothing of this. Facilities were clean and water was cool and fun for a day trip. I would like to try camping there in the future.
WOW! As unknown it was, cannot miss this! On the border with USA, very nice, well maintained! And look at the scenery!
It had been quite awhile since we had visited here. It was great re-exploring all the trails and hoodoos again. Of note was the good cell service, unlike years ago. Milk River was flowing well and we would have liked to float down the river in the kayak, starting up-river and down to the campground, but there is no way to return to your vehicle. Too bad there is no shuttle for that. A nice 4-day stay though.
Absolutely must visit in Alberta! This place has everything you need for a nice adventurous day - mysterious rocks, rattle snakes, stunning lookouts, interesting trails, campground. And Milk River))
Took the hoodoo trail hike which was a short 2.5km and an easy hike. Beautiful scenery and loved being in the energy of this wonder. Cool spots to visit throughout hike and nice places for meditations. Definitely worth checking out to say the least. Blessed to have some of these beautiful spots in Alberta a short drive away from Calgary.
A fantastic place to visit. Historic and just an amazing place. Saw rattlesnakes, deer and ancient petroglyph's in the hoodoos. There is a day park and a campground right beside this park. A great place to stay or roast hot dogs and marshmallows.
Sacred and serene place. Magnificent views and winding trails! Feel yourself get pulled in to a different time and place once you set foot in the Hoodoo trails
There is so much here, oh my! I was expecting it to be much smaller, but it really shines as a place to visit. Feels like youre traveling, how much the surroundings shift. Worth spending an hour or three
Great scenery, lots of history, the visitor center is awesome and you get to see lots of animals.
This park is easy to find. The sites are level and it was easy to park the motorhome. The park is on level ground. The guided tour to the reserve include a walk along the base of a cliff with lots of panels of drawings. Seating areas were provided and there was lots of time for everyone to see and photograph the drawings. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered everyone’s questions. The campground had a camp store and a shower building with hot showers and flush toilets. There were also pit toilets in the campground. Campsites offered no service or power. No sites with water or sewer. There is a river for tubing, swimming and canoeing with a large sandy beach close to the campground. Lots of shade trees. The hiking trail through the hoodoos was fairly easy if you took your time which we did.
Was a great day with the family climbing and exploring and then after a picnic using the wonderful facilities we went for a swim and cooled off. Overall an awesome day.
What a lovely and special place to visit. We highly recommend this park and campground. It's typically warm and dry with few bugs and if you're lucky you might even spot one of the indigenous snakes :)
This place is just absolutely beautiful! Spent two days here, could have spent a week. Peaceful and just charged with magical energy. Each new step provides you with an amazing new view. Highly recommended. Take the time to pay a visit, it will NOT disappoint!
Absolutely amazing place. Stunning views and landscape. Fantastic historic information
Weather was perfect. Scenery and rock etchings were amazing. We had a great hike and a wonderful time. Thanks Harley.
Beautiful place. The hoodoo trail is 4.5km round trip. Pretty hot though. Bring water bottles. You can fill them for free at the visitors center. Watch for snakes!
Super stunning visit! Super easy to hike/navigate and well created "tour" that you can do. The visitors center was really well done. We camped a few days here and the location for the campsites was a little crowded, but expected considering the area is so accessible. If you are like me and prefer crownland or a bit more privacy, you might want to find something else... That being said, we lucked out as we attended in the middle of the week and the grounds were pretty empty!
Busy, but will be back again. Awesome time to float down milk river, play at river beach and hike the hoodoos
The visitor center was free, great layout, interactive exhibits with various audio story designs. The center of the room had a micro, plain air theater and the ability to cool off. Staff were patient and knowledgeable. The gift shop lacked inventory and profit gaining merchandise. The signage throughout the park were new, visible, well-marked and placed. The stone art was well protected ????. The float from the rodeo grounds drop off was mint. The river had an sandy or pebble bottom. It seemed dramatic standing but once ur on the float it was great. Felt like you were on a safari zipping about and the hood faces. We parked at the battle scene trail and walked the whole length and Hoodoo trail to the store and back. There were white tail deers, cotton tail rabbits, many swallows and dead rattle snakes along the path. Camping spot was near the beach parking , we were down wind from the toilets that was sometimes unpleasant if you are an glamamper. Accessible toilets, garbage/recycling, drinking water taps and an very well stocked and convenient camp store. Many Accessible trails in the close proximity of the campground and with the info brochures really put you in an visual long ago memory.
I loved this park, and will be back again. Amazing!!
This park was quite the experience. I need to come back because we went during the heat wave and it was extremely hot. The views were spectacular out of this world. I think it would be neat to camp here. You can camp beside the water. Then there are trails. There are carvings in the stones. Easy to see why it's a UNESCO protected site. Watch out for snakes.
Nice place to go with the family for a day trip or for camping. The grounds are amazing and the milk river is beautiful. The only thing is that it's super far away from calgary and the road there is not as beautiful as the one to the mountains.
Gorgeous park to explore hoodoos and float down the river. Pack a lunch and enjoy the day
Writing-on-Stone is excellent, with Hoodoo Trail being among the best walks for families with young children. One downside is that there are not good nearby places to stay outside of the excellent campsite that is always full and not available. We stayed in Lethbridge both times we've visited, which works but is not ideal. Further, good luck finding places to eat - so you'd better back plenty of food!
Super cool place lots to see.Dress for hiking not wheelchair accessable except the visitors center and picnic area at the main parking and viewing area.nice little beach area and overnight camping at the milk rivers edge.
Amazing place. So cool to see the carving
The park is awesome, the campground is awesome! One of my favourites. There’s showers (2$ if I remember correctly), a beach (no pet allowed), you can bring your air mattress or whatever floating device to enjoy a lazy-river style ride, and the hoodoo trail is spectacular ???????? I’ll certainly go back there on next summer! Drinking water has a weird taste though; bring your water container.
Beautiful area, the hoodoos are breathtaking! We camped here and the facilities were good. Milk River is a fast moving river, so be cautious. There is a lovely sandy beach area. Sunsets were gorgeous, with the unique hoodoos in the background. Saw 2 huge bull snakes; if you don't love these reptiles then look elsewhere.
Calming, historical and a good place to camp. The comfort camping option was excellent. When I was there last I saw some kids scratching stick figures on the rocks. Grandpa when was drafted to mind them was to winded/ out of it to mind them. So please watch your kids so they don’t deface this place. The graffiti here is the worst kind of self centred
Awesome place less than two hours from Medicine Hat. Picnic tables and free parking at the bottom by the campground and there is a kids playground also.
As a child we always went to Drumheller. This park is a way better than Drumheller. Wonderful hoodoo's that you get to actually walk thru. Amazing. Throw in a tubing river,a huge sand beach and brand new playground.
This is an amazing place. We did the tour with a park interpreter and it was an amazing experience. Would highly recommend a visit. If you do go please be respectful of this special place. Sadly they gave to put signs up about not defacing the rock with graffiti. Can definitely be hot as well, so take a hat and lots of water.
We came on one of the last hot days of the Summer to do the Hoodoo trail. This is a must-see! The almost alien landscape of the badlands is something you won't see in many parts of the world. The stone carvings were very interesting too!
Such a great place for the family to go hiking. Kids had a blast.
Great place to hike. Beautiful scenery. Had a great picnic! Bring Sunscreen!
I love this place! It is so beautiful and unique. Everyone needs to visit!!
Far away from Calgary but a beautiful Campground. With a lot of trees, jodoos and a nice river.
Wonderful visit hoodoos are awesome so much fun. we went with a bunch of family friends and just had a wonderful time the campsites are well-maintained the interpretive Center is interesting lots and lots of paths through the hoodoos the river was freezing however there is a beach right there with lots of little kids playing and making sand castles and such, also a able to wash the sand off your feet
Such a beautiful area to visit. I took a short walk on the path and coulsnt resistthe temptation to go down to the river and enjoy some quiet time.
We had a super time. Drove in from Lethbridge for the day. Brought our two small dogs with us and they walked everywhere on leashes. Many information panels outside to read about the history of the park. We couldn't take the dogs into the interpretive center / gift shop. We managed to take turns inside.
I've gone here many times in my life and still enjoy wandering around the Hoodoos, or taking a dip in the calm and sandy Milk River. Great place for the whole family, but people with mobility issues won't be able to access all areas as the terrain varies greatly.
Great place to be able go and explore, swim, and also learn about geology and history. Not a lot of services close by so bring what you need for your stay.
Went during the long weekend. It was hot, plus 30 but the hike itself was exciting and not to steep of an incline. The hoodoo trail had an information book on the various stops and the interpretive center and the hoodoos were both very interactive. A good place for children and adults alike. There is a river to go swim in (which we didn't partake in.)
Loved this park. It had everything an info center, clean bathrooms lots of space to eat and a fun little concession stand. The trails were breathtaking. It was like travelling back in time. 100% worth a visit.
This is worth the trip! A great campground surrounded by hoodoos and rock art.
This is such a lil gem I think most Albertans wish they went to more often once they get there. It's hoodoos are marvelous and the areas rich history (although most of it unfortunately vandilized) never ceases to amaze. Fun, and not too far of a drive for any Southern Albertans I would put this on your list for any time of year if you haven't been.
Amazing place i love the views
We went for the view. It did not disappoint. No fee to enter the park. Very helpful staff. We listened to the Snake Awareness speaker and it really helped me feel better and gave me to tools. We did not see a snake. Snake information scared kids then they didn’t want to walk. But at least they were informed what to do. Good beach area. Amazing playground! Good for ages 6-68 for us.
Had a great time “fall camping” at this campground. Not a large campground but nice and enough to see & do. Will return
1st visit to the park, beautiful camp ground, showers, beach, small store, and interpretation center, grandkids loved scrambling on the hoodoo. Great TRIP!
The tour was a little bit underwhelming. One wall of petroglyphs. We were expecting a hike and tour
An amazing gem tucked away in the province. Well worth the drive if you're nearby. Lots of exploring and things to see for people all ages!
Loved the history and petroglyphs. The rock formations are awesome. Didn't camp herebut looks like everyone that was camping was having a great time playing in the water. It gets hot and there are snakes here.
Had a great visit here. Amazing rock formations.
Most beautiful place in Alberta i see
I highly recommend visiting this park! The campground looks nice, the facilities are well kept and clean, and there is lots to see and do! We hiked the Hoodoo Trail, had a picnic lunch, and dipped our toes in the river. There were lots of families floating on the river, which is quite shallow around the beach.
it was 36 degrees that day a good drive there south a good hike in the hoodooos saw wildlife chillin in the shade the place was clean and maintained well. afterwards it cooled down heading back. good experience I will return again.Thank you
Lovely place at the AB-MT border. A true gem in the prairies. The camping site is pretty good but the washrooms need improvement since they stink! You can go for long walks here or just enjoy the river/beach... but most important of all is to enjoy nature and history.
Very nice place to spend a day out with the family
Lovely scenery. Staff very friendly and helpful.
A little out of the way, but pretty cool. Reminded me a bit of southern Utah.
What an amazing Provincial Park! It’s almost like you travel to another country! The Grassland is an amazing part of the Province and I would highly recommend a visit. It’s a bit of drive from Edmonton, AB but totally doable!
We explored the hoodoos and spent a day at Milk River and barely scratched the surface of this amazing section of Alberta. The history and the landscape is definitely something worth exploring.
Such a neat place to check out, lots of easy climbing and trails to access.
This place is like an upgrade of drumheller and way more better for me, u can climb up on the massive hoodoos and take an epic picture and u can swim in the river too. Today (Aug. 28) the river does not have much water as i was expecting it based on pictures i saw online but still it was a great experience to be on this historical site. They have camping and picnic grounds too.
super amazing place, totally off the tourist route which makes it all the more special. the best hoodoos in all of Alberta that we visited and having the ability to roam freely amongst them was a real treat. extremely historical area and amazingly knowledgable staff.
The scenery here is just amazing. There is a lot to do. Rafting, hiking, relaxing, camping, and education. There are native petroglyphs and hyroglyphs, a visitor's center with guided tours.
Easy walk for our family with some climbing. We did see a snake. Loved it and would do it again.
Great park filled with strong, powerful, calming energies. Meditate here and feel transported to a different world. Walking through the trails of hoodos and natural rock formations is a rock lovers dream! Much history to be learned throughout the park.
We loved this camping park. Plug in important in heat. River access. Spectacular scenery and history. Also a river for floating/canoeing.
The first day there, I had a few panic attacks trying to get off the hoodoo's with a couple of friends and my older sister, But other than that, Loved it there, Might go there again in May.
Beautiful surroundings. In the summer they have great interpretive talks. The campground is generally busy (even in the low seasons) so make a reservation. There is a beach for swimming and you can easily canoe or kayak from this location. There are lots of places to explore and it's fun to climb on the hoodoos.
Spectacular landscape and excellent tour of the petroglyphs. It's a fbulous nirding locale. Lovely camping, handy camping store, and warm, shallow river. We took our lawn chairs into the water. Downside = some parts of the park are inaccessible due to few interpretive guides.
Incredible place both spiritually and by viewing the natural landscape. Well worth the visit to explore this unique part of Canada. The campground was clean, fairly private, had a small store and had a camp host that was very informative. The Interpretive Centre at the beginning of the park entrance offers a full explanation of the provincial park, panoramic view and as well has as a gift and souvenir shop.
It's a great place to visit and enjoy. You can get lost on purpose in labyrinth of these hoodoos for hours without getting actually lost. If you are lucky, you can even come face to face with a rattlesnake. We met a baby who's rattle hadn't developed yet but he was making up the lack of the rattle sound with a noticeable hissing noise.
Most people know hoodoos from Drumheller but not in Writing-on-stone. Too bad I don't have enough time to walk throught the whole trail. Highly recommended to join the day tour, the staff will explain and tell stories of the history of Writing-on-stone.
Worth the drive! Hubby, daughter and I ventured out to Writing on Stone Provincial Park because it comes highly recommended. Well, I’m happy to jump on that bandwagon too. This is a lovely campground, with everything you need to have a comfy stay. Washrooms, showers and a little convenience store. The interpretive centre is also pretty cool and little kids love it! The best part of this place are the amazing walking trails and views - they are awe inspiring!
Excellent information great history. Definitely go on a guided tour do you can get close to the carvings as they in an archeological reserved area. Very good interpretive center. Guides are incredibly knowledge.
An amazing park with lots of historical culture to explore. There is not a lot of shaded areas so make sure you bring enough water with you. There is a lovely river with a beach at the campground that you can swim in on a hot day.
It's a long drive to get there, but it's worthy! We went in August and it was really really hot in the valley. We heard rattle snakes near by, but stayed on the path and we were fine. Make sure you have enough water. We stopped at a campground next to milk river and it was so fun. Water warm and river is shallow. Perfect for kids to cool down.
We stayed in Lethbridge overnight and decided to do a quick trip here. It's an hour away from there. It didn't disappoint us! Beautiful area with camp sites. Make sure you have your hiking shoes and sticks. We'll definitely come back to hike more and paddle in the river.
A great place to climb and get to know a little more about Alberta's history
Interesting history .very informative guided tour of area. Super knowledgeable and fun guide loved to talk. Watch out for rattle snakes.
The trails were great. Was a little difficult finding it . We had to ask for directions as the signs were not clear, coming from Milk River. Drove to the travel information center and found it closed. The was a family taking pictures of their children playing on the tiny dinosaurs, who pointed us in the correct direction and we pointed to the map on the bulletin board.
Stayed at writing-on stone provincal park....for the weekend. We stayed in spot 57. Very close to the beach. Lovely campground Excellent new kids playground Showers were open all night and $2 for 5 minutes Bring your floaties for the river. And if you take the hoodoo trail take water its gets hot out there. Enjoy your stay and dont graffiti the hoodoos.
Spent half a day here and had a blast exploring. The two main trails were closed for restoration when we went (May 6th) but there was no shortage of sights to see. A seriously unique and beautiful place to visit in southern AB!
One of the most incredible and strangely beautiful places on earth. Love this place…every time.
Nice campsites right by the river. Water current is not strong. Sandy beach that's great for kids.
Perfect place for a family day trip or camping trip! These Hoodoos are perfect for an extreme game of hide and seek or to capture an amazing shot of the sunrise. There is a small playground suitable for younger kids and beach but be sure to check if there are any water advisories first. Get ready to fall in love with the beautiful masterpieces and nature that God created!????
Great little hidden gem in the prairies. The hoodoos are so unique to see, it's fun for all ages to walk/climb throughout the hoodos. The campsite for the park is along the Milk River, with a great view of the Sweet Grass Hills to the south.
Such an interesting place to visit! Beauty and uniqueness all around. We did the tour to view the pictographs and petroglyphs. Highly recommend the tour. Our guide was amazing and we loved listening to the history of the area and the stories of his ancestors and the Blackfoot Nation.
Amazing place! Much more to explore then I even imagined
Amazing place with magical feel. Worth visiting and really enjoyed the Rock Art history tour. Great place to learn about history of Canada
Love this place. So spiritual and majestic.
Beautiful scenery
Love this place! Always great weather, nice beach area and river good for floating.
Amazing trip! Great staff very knowledgeable and wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon
Amazing come if you are even close! Get a guided tour and immerse yourself. Beautiful, informative and worth your visit. We'll be back!
A very interesting place! Very beautiful stone structures..and by the way the washrooms are really clean and well maintained...
This is a place for families to connect with the history, land and life of the Blackfoot people. Please take a tour/s. it’s a privilege to be guided by an Elder.
I almost stepped on a snake so that's cool.
This place has it all! Nature, stunning views, historic site. It is a Must go in Southern Alberta
Beautiful hidden gem. Amazing landscape. Hoodo trail is fabulous. Beach on milk river was fun. We had a tour booked. Lady on the counter told us to come at 2.15 pm but the tour was at 2 pm. I requested a refund but they refused. My 5 star experience changed into 4 star. Must see off the path location
Stunning place with unique biodiversity. Great camp site. Great facilities. Definitely going again
Was blown away by how interesting this place is, can't wait to come back and explore it more!
This is an amazing provincial park to visit and a fantastic campground for camping. As this is a popular camping site, you need book it way in advanced. You can buy firewood at the campground. You also have very clean and well maintained flash toilet and hot shower(2.5 mins for loonies and 5mins for toonies). The hoodoo trial is must to do. It’s a 2.5km one way hike from the campground. But you can drive to each of the view points by car. Do not miss the battle scene point where the scene is carved on the wall. But make sure you are always looking around and listening to rattle of rattlesnake as we came across two of them literally in the trail.
Beautiful place. Took a tour to see the petroglyphs which was well worth the price.
Beautiful! Definitely worth checking out as much of the trail as you can.
Was amazed that people were camping in November...The rock formations with flat tops... would definitely go back for walks...
Great hike in winter the summer is always too hot to hike in the hoodoos and too busy with people. The bathrooms are not open that was not so good you could see where people had peed. No fast food places in Milk River so you may want to bring a lunch and water
Beautiful place. One of Alberta's must see parks, you will learn about the indigenous peoples of the area and see some cool landscapes
Amazing! Great place for a weekend visit. Great view from the visitor center and the cliff above Police Coulee. Nice campground for the people who like to camp. A nice beach on the Milk River. You can float on the river on tubes from one end of the park to the beach. The Hoodoos are amazing.
Really scenic park. The inner campsites have good privacy with trees between each site. The river is great for floating. There's also a nice walk to the battle scene petroglyph. Make sure to grab a pamphlet about the walk before you head out because it really helps you spot the petroglyphs.
Amazing area. River float is great. Hoodoos are good and make sure to do the $15 tour. 3-5000 year old petroglyphs are amazing.
We visit this camping site on August and it was incredible. Park site is great, petroglyphs tour is very interesting, you will interact with lots of deers, which are friendly. We stayed two nights at a comfort camping cabin, it was clean and well equipped. Public bathrooms were very well maintained and access to the beach and camp store was very easy. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the milk river riding on a small inflatable boat!!!
A beautiful park with plenty to see andnlearn. Information centernis staffed by helpful and kinf people! My kids loved it. My legs are tired from exploring the hoodoos! Will definitely return, maybe even go camping next time!
Neat place to go. Good day trip location.
Laura was an excellent tour guide . Highly recommend doing the Rock Art in Aisina i'pi Tour
Well worth the trip - incredible history, art, culture and scenery! The park works hard to preserve the rock art - the hike is beautiful and if you can get up to the lookout for sunrise or sunset I would recommend it! Facilities were clean and close by, and we had service and data the whole time if that’s important to you. Bring a good floaty and take a lazy trip down the milk river! The sites weren’t very private which was my only complaint but it’s such a unique provincial park - would highly recommend! Keep in mind if you have a pet with you, you cannot do the tour which means you won’t see a lot of the rock art, but you can take your dog on the trail and there’s some incredible art to see there.
Took a day trip from Calgary. Do yourself a favour and go. It won’t disappoint. Spent hours climbing around the rock formations. Felt like I was on a different planet.
The Hoodoos are incredible! This place is definitely worth the hike in to see the unique landscape our Canadian Badlands has to offer. We did not go at a good time to see the writings on stone but it was amazing to see what we did. Unfortunately some idiots vandalized the rock and it now has a large cage around it. Milk River currently has a swimming advisory which kind of stinks, it won't last forever but if you are going to swim check and see if that has been cleaned up before you do.
Interpretive/Visitor center was the best one we have ever been too (and free!). We camped in the campground, and found it to have so many mosquitoes and cotton wood fluffs that it detracted from our enjoyment. Otherwise amazing. We chose not to take the guided tour due to the cost, however heard from other campers that it was pretty good.
It is worth driving hundreds miles to have a visit. Even temperature is 35℃. People can enjoy the small beach of Milk River that is friendly and safety to children. Should hike at morning it isn't too hot.
Overall good experience,it is a must see place in Alberta. Cons: a lots of wasps and a bit of toilet smell around the campground:)
Beautiful hike. Full of history. Fairly easy, I think most people would be able to do this hike. Took us about 2 hours to get to the battle scene, but we stopped and looked around a lot.
It is an amazing site with a AAA amenities campground. The Milk river runs right thru it which is very nice
It is as interesting as the drive to this location. Trail is closed for construction and drove all the way here for nothing. The trail is about 2km. Could be nice on a hot summers day but that's no our experience. Disappointed.
Fantastic campground. We did the Interpretative Tour, Campfire stories at the amphitheatrw, Hoodoo Trail and walked the hoodoos near the Visitor Centre. Be aware for rattlesnakes as we saw a few there over the three nights we were out there.
A really nice provincial park. Getting here was pretty easy, the information centre was helpful and getting around the park is easy. The park itself is not very big but there is lots to explore. The rocks, or hoodoo, are fascinating and something every Albertan should do. The whole park seems somewhat flat so you definitely would not need hiking boots.
First visit and we loved it...the river, the trails, the hoodoos, the visitor centre, the views, the history...all great. We booked what we thought was a campsite with trees and shrubs to provide shade, privacy, and a windbreak (this area can get hot and windy). The picture on the Alberta Parks website is misleading and should be updated to represent what the site is actually like now. We still had a great time and we'll go again but now we know what sites actually have shade and a windbreak.
Such an amazing historical, and gem with such beautiful geological formations. Our Parks interpreter shared from his spirit about his culture and the importance of the land and these stone writings. The guided tour is a must to truly learn about all that is here.
Always a great place to camp. Beautiful scenery to enjoy, birds are chirping and lots of trees for shade and wind break ???? Definitely one of my favorite camp spots!
Extremely helpful and friendly staff! My family and I had some vehicle issues at the site, and at one point were debating if we wanted to spend the night in our car and wait for a towing service in the morning. Not only did the staff help us get a permit so we could stay the night in the parking lot, but one of the employees, Amy, volunteered to make us dinner as well! We did eventually get some roadside assistance and were able to drive home, but we'll never forget the hospitality, and kindness that the staff at the visitor center showed us.
Awesome place, well worth a visit
Great walking trails, beautiful location, will be going back for a day trip. Not too sure if I'd camp there or not though. Sites seems a little tight, not much privacy, though if that doesn't matter to you, it would be great.
