Beautiful area.

A calm place for camping

Beautiful area but wish the road was open so we can enjoy the park

Great place for a day trip!

One of the hidden gems in Alberta.

Stunning and beautiful park with a river and many places to explore.I noticed fishermen at the river so maybe good for fishing.I seen kids swimming near edge of river bank and this being the badlands it is desert like conditions and has cacti growing with pretty flowers Growing around.Bring your camera bring a lunch you will want to spend a bit of time there. There is a road which goes almost all the way to river with parking for about 20 cars,I saw signs about wet and rainy conditions and not to go down the road it is quite steep And I doubt you'd get back up if it rained, forget about driving down in winter I bet it's closed for winter season but still could park at top and walk down. There is cool history to this place so worth reading up on before heading there and picturing what once used to happen there for thousands of years,I won't give it away but I'm sure park name will give a clue!

The view was fantastic, we loved it and will go back. The exhibits are very weak and need a major upgrade.

Beautiful place hidden away ❤

First time coming here, was not disappointed. Road to drive down was closed due to heavy rain. Took about 40 minutes to walk to the river. Moderate difficulty to walk back up. Beautiful views, wildlife and flowers.

Some interpretive signs are missing at the lookout. It's another beautiful badlands area of Alberta!

Always love climbing through the formations here. Not very many people and tons of geological tidbits and flora to point out to the kids

Relaxing atmosphere, kids had a blast, fishing was amazing!!

Beautiful place, and so close to Red Deer

Great valley vistas. Many walking trails and my favorite flower the crocus grows there

You can see forever. We were up on the bluffs. Wow the scenery was amazing. Watch the road going down on the west side. Crazy dips and holes.

Great park to hike.

Amazing place so peaceful and beautiful ❤????❤

Very nice park

Please go and enjoy our beautiful Alberta Parks. There is so much to explore here!!!

Beautiful place to explore

Amazing place off the major tourist trail. Scenery is mind-blowing and really allows you to experience the Badlands.

Impressive.

Loved driving down into the park, what a view!

Surreal and beautiful!! ????'Beam me up Scotty'

The scenery was great, the staff were great but the main campsites (only one per block) were small. No showers, no concessions except a pop machine, no sink even. Trails are very poorly marked.

Beautiful.

Beautiful. Definitely a hidden gem in Alberta.

Love this place! Its like the grand canyon of Alberta.

stunning sunsets

Such a beautiful place ????

Gorgeous views! Lovely day camping area

Another part of red deer River badlands

Always beautiful

Amazing

Love this little-known gem in the middle of the Badlands. Great hiking in this area on unofficial trails!

Beautiful winter landscapes. Not crowded and great trails for hiking.

Great place to camp. No services, so be ready to rough it. Hiking is great, as is the fishing and playing in the river. Camp sites can be private or some paired if camping with friends.

The two times we've gone, the road down has been closed.

Don't waste your time here go to head smashed in Buffalo jump it's brilliant ???????? .

No map at the park but it’s nice to just explore around

Beautiful trails, access to the river, and random varied wildflowers. Also lots of wildlife, such as deer, otters, porcupines, and squirrels.

Cool landscapes and trails to explore.

Been here a few times before, and is one of my favourite places to stop in Alberta. The views are incredible! The history, intriguing. This time we stopped to have dinner and rest on our way back from Ghost lake to Edmonton.

It's Wonderful I try to come here at least once a year if not more. I love climbing the hills and trekking through the fields. Often see wildlife. It's got several picnic sites, they are all nice and shady. There's a big clearing near the river that's perfect for playing frisbee. If you have not been here yet you need to come and check it out! Truly a hidden gem!

Always a favorite place for us to have a picnic, go fishing, or hike around.

This place is absolutely beautiful! We have our family reunions here every year and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else!

Beautiful scenery not too busy , we launched our boat there and went to Tolman. Took about 4 hours.

Best like I've been on a long time! Beautiful scenery! Very safe and challenging yet comfortable trails.

Spectacular views with rugged and varied terrain for all levels of adventuring!

This is a beautiful place. Never been here before, we were amazed by the scenery.

Amazing experience, one of my favourite spots now. The red deer river was so nice, really clear and cool after a long day of hiking. Steep downhill road to the park, unfeasible in wet weather, so be careful.

A truly amazing place to visit!! Lots of beautiful views and wildlife, a must see!!

So beautiful! Road down is washed out (Aug. 2020) but you can hike down the couple of kilometers to the day use area. Quite the walk going back up! But worth it!!!!

Beautiful section of the Red Deer River Valley with hiking trails and picnic tables.

Stunning geography and very few people. Shame you can't camp overnight.

Amazing

Great scenery and was definitely a good experience

I had no idea such beauty was this close to Calgary!

A quiet piece of awesome scenery. Off the beaten track, but well worth a visit.

Best place around for a hike.

Great sights.

Beautiful park. Fantastic views from the top, you can drive down or walk if it's too muddy and wander for hours enjoying the unique beauty the badlands have to offer. Fall and spring are the best times to visit- less bugs.

Good for hiker's

Great place for a family hike or picnic. The trails are not marked but the brush is low so can easily find your way around and up various hills etc. Fantastic views!

Had a wonderful time during a rainy day. It was really muddy but the view was still amazing. Landscape was so nice but we could not hike due to the rain. Day use only and no camping is far as we could see. Toilets available.

As others have said- some of the interpretive signs are missing. The road in is washboard gravel. Travel lightly. There are no bathrooms up top. There are beautiful views and two benches down a path. Enjoy!

Beautiful place to hike

Nice views and good place for a picnic. Could not go hiking. Watch out if it rains. The road going up and down gets very slippery.

Trailhead isn't marked the best but a good enough place to wander have a picnic and play in the water.

You want scenery, but not crowds? Best place is here. With the road being washed out you have to walk about a half kilometre to the bottom. Lots of trails, cool cacti, wildlife and not a lot of people! This was our first time there, but we will be going back for sure.

Absolutely breathtaking view

A grand and wonderful vista suddenly opens up as if from thin air from the rolling prairies and you drop back to the stone age. The buffalo jump itself is secondary to the beauty of the Red Deer River Valley, which is reached by driving down switch back turns(no trailers) through the Alberta Badlands at its most scenic. The Dry Island is a small plateau that the river's flow has long since left it standing away from the river, hence the name. The top of the dry island has never been able to access grazing animals and is still home to some prehistoric flora. There is no overnight camping at the site itself but there are plenty of campgrounds nearby. For an enjoyable day trip along historic Highway 21 it can't be beat.

Amazing view.

Nice place to spend a day with the family.

Great place to hike, beautiful views of the badlands and river. Not too busy either since everyone is spread out.

Lots of walking trails and places to explore.

We loved the scenery. It was like a mini Grand Canyon. The topography is beautiful. There are many trails. They were not marked , but easy to go any which way and not lose our way back to the parking lot. The toilets , picnic tables and fire pits were well taken care of. We went the first week of June 2021. And all the wild flowers were in bloom. The cacti and Juniper were thriving. We spoke to a couple of people, boating and paddle boarding down to the bridge about 15 km down stream. They mentioned how much they loved floating and paddling their way down and that it took about 2 to 2.5 hrs. I think we might bring our canoe next trip and take a paddle ourselves! There were people boating, biking, and hiking. Dogs are to be on leash. Highly recommended the trip!

Beautiful and majestic

It's a beautiful park. A wonder prairie preserve.

The view was absolutely amazing.

Good place just to take in the view and stop

Amazing contrast in scenery compared to the surrounding area. Love going down here at night to watch the stars in the pitch black.

Stunning!

Very clean and well kept campground.

Grass is neat

Beautiful!

This is a beautiful spot. Amazing scenery. Nice walking. Not too much infrastructure so take everything with you - there is no town or store nearby. Take lots of water.

Great space for the kids to play and explore. Theres the river access and you can climb a bit and explore.

Very scenic, I have driven by many times, today I drove in and was not disappointed. Also, I was on my motorcycle, only the last km is hard packed gravel, so go check it out. I wouldn't recommend driving down the hill on a street bike, although I did on my Versys 1000, a bit sketchy heading down but no problem coming back up.

It's a great place to go for a walk go there every year

The view and wildlife!!

Breathtaking views.. a beautiful detour on the way back to Red Deer. You'll be driving countryside with fields and farms all around and then BAM - canyons and a river running centrally.. highly recommend.

Beautiful Spot - road was closed due to all the recent rain, but you can hike down from the upper parking lot.

Beautiful views!

Such a beautiful place! Great hiking, swimming and picnic choices

If you're in the area hunting, be advised the posted signs on the fence that say "Alberta Provincial Park Boundary" are incorrect boundaries for the park. Its a beautiful spot to visit and hunt, until fish and wildlife show up and tell you you're hunting in a Provincial park, even though you're standing outside the posted park Boundary...

I have been here many times and the view always impresses me. It is like a small scale version of the grand canyon and has it's own unique beauty. There are day use areas near the river and great walking trails where you will see wildlife and interesting badlands plants, watch out for cactus. The road is extremely slick if it has been raining so plan to go on a dry clear day, in a normal year you should get about 320 of them to choose from.

Trails need to be marked better. We sort of guessed our way around.

Superbly amazing. Rich in culture and heritage. Stunning landscapes. A true Alberta treasure

What an amazing place to visit.

Disappointed, drove for a long time for the park to be closed.

A great wilderness park with very few people. The landscapes are fascinating. The kids love running around in the badlands or playing in the river

Nice spot for a walk although the paths are hard to find through the fields. Don't go if it's wet and rainy because it becomes super slippery.

Great look out, worth the short drive off the hwy.

Surprisingly stunning valley that is well worth a trip! Was fairly busy in a long weekend, but we could still find parking. Easy to ramble up and down the valley bottom through classic Alberta coulee landscapes

Disappointed experience. There was no forewarning that the road down to the park was closed. Checked the website and it said it was open. We often had taken our dogs for a hike and then swim I'm the river to cool off. Was not happy we had driven all the way down for nothing and were stuck trying to find something else to do last minute.

What a great place to hang out with the fam, trail run, fish, hike and picnic!!!!

Great in summer but bad roads in spring.

Amazing views.

July 2nd, road closed to river. Honestly get you s#$t together.

so beautiful and lots to explore!

Great for a casual hike down to the river. Lots of little paths if you want to explore more. Views are nice.

Spot with unique views

Nice views

It's pretty. And really not that far (from Calgary). I see plenty of deer.

Beautiful scenery, crystal clear river

An amazing Alberta treasure to explore

Great view point. Lots of wildlife. The road to the river is a little sketchy.

An amazing area. Just breathtaking:)

Beautiful scenery. Very little interpretive signage as compared to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump in the south of the province.

Unbelievable

Prehistoric feeling.

Beautiful place and the best part is the camp site right by the river. It's not too crowded and the trek is amazing too. Just be careful from rattle snakes in the area.

This is such a beautiful place and I could spend the whole day there! I would definitely go back although far away from my place. It is similar to Dinosaur Provincial Park in Brooks and Horseshoe Canyon in Drumheller which I have been to both but it is greener than Dinosaur P. P. and much bigger than the said canyon. Delightful.

Great Canadian beauty..enjoyed the hike. Definitely a place to visit and relax.

Wonderful place to camp and trip.

Great hike! The hiking here is second only to the Drumheller canyons, which are nearby. You'll need 3x more water than you think you need because there is Z.E.R.O shade. Many animal prints as well, but yeah, for real, bring more water than you think you need, the temperature here is amplified by the nonexistent shade anywhere, I can't stress this enough. Bring your best hiking boots, you'll need ankle protection.

Great place for a day picnic and a super scenic hike. One of the most beautiful places containing the badlands in the Red Deer river valley!

Great Park to go hiking for the hills. Lots of different trails, and most of it is make your own ! I highly recommend this, beautiful scenery and even better fitness.

Majestic local spot. Wear water shoes, swim in river, walk the land but bring lots to drink.

awesome

Monumental...

Spectacular

Beautiful spot.

What a spectacular provincial park..simply breathtaking.

Breathtaking views from up top but the walk down to the Red Deer River and back up are not worth it since everything worth seeing is from up top

Great and clean day use

Absolutely beautiful place, the views are spectacular. Would be a great place to spend an afternoon picnicking down by the river!

Beautiful area. It's odd that there is no park information or orientation in the parking lot, and there don't seem to be any officially marked trails.

One of my favorite places to visit. Great area

Such a beautiful place, it's almost magical.

Gorgeous and relatively undisturbed. Lovely to canoe through.

(Translated) A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the silence. The view from up there in and over the valley is just great. It is advisable to use an SUV off-road vehicle or the like to drive there, since the road there is not paved the last piece. In addition, one comes with such a car again better from the valley, over the steep exit road of the park, upwards. A toilet is available in the park. Of course it is a Plumbsklo, but it is clean.

Great park to visit.

Awesome POI, cool landscape and great for professional photos.

Beautiful spot in the Badlands for either a walk along the river, or up into the hills. Crocus and cactus are abundant in the spring....watch for deer and Canada geese when near the river.

I have never seen so much diversity in such a small area. Incredible. Be careful as some of the trails have lost their definition due to recent rain falls. So it is very helpful to have a trail app such as Alltrails to carry you through. We would have been utterly lost without that app. Go for a long hike and then head down to Red Deer River for a soak. Between Rowly, Big Valley and Dry Island Buffalo Jump you have an epic day!

Interesting place to visit. Lots of history, beautiful scenery and wildlife.

I absolutely love coming here for hiking and herping. The only issue I have ever had was coming after a recent rainstorm; the ground was slippery and the trails quite muddy. Bathrooms are kept very clean.

Best hidden gem in Alberta! You can spend the whole day here hiking, swimming or picnicking!

Great scenery and a fun place to explore.

Very nìce scenery on the Red Deer River.

Very nice place for hiking and seeing wildlife. Lots of wildflowers and cactus. Birds, bees, bugs and spiders.

Great

Better enjoy this now before the UCP sell off the land to some company

A great place to hike around and explore!

Love it here!!

Stunning views. A hidden gem worth the drive.

Gorgeous scenery. Hardly any people. Outstanding

A gorgeous place to spend the day with breathtaking landscape, the place has picnic tables, washrooms and even drinking water. You can kayak or canoe at the river, just check the waters first because it could be wild sometimes

Picturesque.

Beautiful!

This place is very special. The terrain and scenery make me feel like an alien planet. But the only thing to pay attention to is that there are a lot of snakes, there will be snakes crawling out of the sidewalk suddenly, and many snakes will appear on the driveway.

Amazing secluded camp sites right on the river. Potable water is only available at one site near the boat launch. One hour drive to Drumheller. It’s a great way to see the Badlands without camping amongst all the tourists.

Great breathtaking views came here on a beautiful Sunday perfect place to take pictures will be back again

Great place for a picnic

Nice views of the badlands and the Red Deer River. Nice area to capture some great photos.

I like this place. A lot of room for interesting hike and nature observation.

Awesome place, just need to grader the roads a bit so we can enjoy!

Beautiful picnic area on the Red Deer River.

Fantastic views, this photo is from my most recent trip! There are several goat trails for some great hikes. During winter dress warm it can be very windy! During the summer you just might find a fossil or dinosaur tooth!

This is a little known beautiful spot. Unfortunately, many of the interpretive signs had been removed. One would need to do research elsewhere on its historic significance. It is a day use area with picnic tables & there is access to the river but the road to them is not paved & very steep in spots. A sign just before the decent to the river warns against using the road in wet conditions. It is a bit out of the beaten path but it is definitely worth the drive on a nice day.

Beautiful

Terrific view of the Red Deer river valley.

Beautiful Fall colors. Not very busy, which was great. Nice walk and time with family

Wish it will been the summer

Such a neat area. There are plants and flowers I have never seen anywhere else. There is also flowering cactus which was blooming while we were there.

Great place to escape to for the day. So quiet and untouched.

Beautiful place with so many hiking trails. We think it is nicer than Drumheller, just a little harder to get to. We hiked from the lower parking lot. It starts out pretty dull, but makes up for it when you start gaining a bit of elevation. Not all the neat stuff is at the summit, lots to see along the way. Watch out for any wet spots, the mud is very slippery. We recorded about 8 KM and 341 M of elevation gain.

Great hiking..you may see pelicans ,ducks, fox, coyote, raptors, lots of scramble hills, explore trails..super place for exploration. Red deer River runs through,. Kayakers and other watercraft pass on this river, it is lazy here.

Nice area but the gate at the top of the hill is STILL locked. you cannot go down to the river and camp.

Quiet peaceful river for kayaking. Access is challenging tie to road construction and repairs and almost dangerous in the dark or when the sun is in your face. Beautiful views.

Beautiful place

Beautiful, but his ng trails are limited to bushwhacking.

Great views

Beautiful scenery, no noticable signage for trails

This place is gorgeous! We would love to spend more time here

Great place for hiking

Beautiful area.

Beautiful scenery

Amazing for nature lovers

God’s country really.

Beautiful location, nice day use area. Road down is very steep not recommended for trailers or other rec vehicles

Gorgeous spot. Worth enjoying the lookout before heading in to explore the park itself.

Beautiful hidden gem

Beautiful hikes and views

Dry island Buffalo jump was awesome but it can't compare to horsethief canyon

Went in fall and it was ana amazing view. Dog friendly and few other tourists.

Get your hiking boots on! There are a lot of 'goat trails'. This is a hidden gem of a place, one of my 'go to places from Spring to late fall for a hike...AND there's a great possibility to find some fossils!! During cooler weather dress warm because that cold wind can be brutal the summer months, be sure to have plenty of water on supply, bug spray and sunscreen it gets really hot in the valley. ENJOY!

Stunning views of the Alberta Badlands from the lookouts. I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit Alberta jewel.

Very pretty slice of Alberta.

Great day visit stop

Beautiful scenery

Amazing place, wonderful views Loved it!

Good place for tracking a day

A wonderful place to spend the day. Lots to be discovered! Great badlands scenery, lots of bird life and other wildlife; you can even find dinosaur bones if you keep your eyes open! Please do not take them home though. Report any significant findings (not just little schnibbles) to the Royal Tyrell museum, GPS coordinates are very helpful for them. Crowds are minimal, and complete solitude is easily achievable off the beaten path.

Dry lsland Buffalo Jump Provincial Park

Beautiful hidden Alberta gem

Awesome views!

Beautiful spot!

Nice spot for day trip

Ill be going back

Great scenery and unlimited amount of trails to explore! And tons of adventure

Loads of hills for climbing. The view before entering the valley is spectacular!

Gorgeous scenery. Most of tbe year you can drive down to the day use area. However the road down is steep and curved.

Beautiful but chilly sunset.

Great place for a picnic.

Super beautiful in the fall, but can't believe the government is abandoning this awesome site!

The rv sites were awesome. The hamburger concession served up amazing bugers and fries and super huge milkshakes. The sand on the beach was super white and clean.

Great scenery. Hard trail to follow, though.

Beautiful park, but the gravel road down was just graded and really bumpy and vibrating.

A surprising, historic, riverside picnic ground, Dry Island Buffalo Jump had always been a family favourite. There are picnic tables, firepits, and interesting trails to discover. In the summer, there are a couple of places to take a dip safely in the river.

Beautiful!

Great photo opportunity in the middle of the prairie.

This is a great valley! Beautiful spot along the river, picnic tables and a washroom. It's a heck of a drive down into the valley and unless you have a serious 4x4 with some awesome tires, do not go when its raining. You'll never make it out. It's a very busy place so parking is limited but it is still well worth the trip!

It is a good place to do Canoe adventure. The views are great and it is also a quiet place.

Awesome picnic spot

Was very peaceful.

The view is amazing, it certainly takes your breath away. The winding road to get down to the day use area and the river is rather bumpy and narrow, make sure that your vehicle is designed properly to go down steep hills. It truly is quite of Marvel to see in raw form

Drive down hill is steep. But great picnic spot.

What a beautiful spot..like a little valley oasis. I can't wait to come back for a nice day hike

Beautiful site...nice but tiring walk from top parking area to river and back. Wish there was more interpretation...also a bit scruffy here and there. Kids loved it though and everyone should pay a visit. No services except 'rustic.

Great campground. A little pricey for amenities provided, but it's close to the river and has plenty of hills to climb. Great camping experience, especially for families.

A unique place worth a visit, mainly for its stunning views. One downside, there are no designated hiking trails.

If you are looking for a place to take the family on a Sunday afternoon stroll, then this is a good place for you. The park road leads right down to the North Saskatchewan River. There are outhouses to change in and the river is shallow enough to wade all the way across even for a 10 year old. The scenery is spectacular. The road going down is steep and there is a sign that says "impassable when wet", but on a dry day we had no trouble.

Great views and an interesting ecosystem. If you're looking for boards/kiosks or booths they are not here. Just a stunning view some trails and a river. Enjoyed my time here immensely

Good for hiking or kayaking

A good place to hike, lots of natural beauty and some cool discoveries.

Awesome!!!!!!
