Gareth and LIam from English Painter did a fantastic job on our front hall, stairs and upstairs landing. They fixed cracks in the walls and ceiling of our quirky old house, sanded, conditioned, stained and varnished tired wood trim, stair treads and bannister posts to make them look good as new (even managing to match exactly our wood floor stain) then they painted the trim, walls and ceilings up the stairway. Honestly, we feel like we have a new house. They cleaned up, worked around us - and everyone in our house including two dogs were home - and were a delight to welcome into our home. We'd recommend them highly. In fact, we've already booked for them to come back to do the rest of the house.

Sidetrack

Updated: The vendor cancelled the work after agreement on the contract. Communication was unprofessional and hurtful. Beware. If requesting a date for work to start is considered "verbal abuse" it's scary to think what they will accuse others if something goes wrong. Anyway, it forced me to get another estimate and I'm glad I did. Cost was 1/3 of what was quoted by the English Painter and a start date provided. I hope they can improve their communications.

Gareth and son Liam painted the entire exterior of our two story tudor home. A challenging job with extensive preparation, primer and two full coats over the course of eight days with a fantastic result. They paid great attention to all aspects of the job. On time, spotless cleanup at the end of each day, solid advice, and a real pleasure to do business with. There is obvious care and pride taken in their work. I would not hesitate to recommend the English Painter.

Gareth and Liam were an absolute pleasure to have in the house. They were 100% professional and reliable, with a great positive attitude to solving issues in our house (all left by others) related to the painting work they were doing for us. They worked surprisingly quick, but still did excellent work--the sign of experience and professionalism. And this job involved some messy wallpaper removal then smoothing up the walls prior to painting. We were amazed at how they managed to get the underlying wall near perfect. A couple of years ago they had done the outside painting on our house and we liked them then and brought them back for the interior work. We are now spoiled and will never call any other painters! We just had Gareth and Liam back, to repair and paint our front porch, with its ceiling/roof as wood paneling in different colours. As always the painting work was excellent. But in this instance they also had to repair for some water damage, fill in rotted wood that they cleared away, and seal every joint. It looks as clean and solid as when it was first built, 30 years ago! What a pleasure to have The English Painters at our house!

I recently retained The English Painter to paint the inside of my 1-1/2 storey house. They did a terrific job and I would not hesitate to recommend them. Gareth and his assistants were professional, pleasant and easy to work with. Their painting work is excellent -- very professional, and they cleaned up at the end of each day. They were extremely careful with all my furniture and other belongings. They kept me posted of progress, and arrived punctually every day. They were very patient when I changed my mind about some of the colours I had initially chosen. The end result is terrific -- I am a very happy customer and would not hesitate to hire them again!

I knew from the quoting process alone that we had the right painter. Gareth considered every detail to address significant drywall repairs, numerous cracks and water damage to ensure excellent work that would last for years to come. We also saw his integrity in balancing our priorities with our limited budget without compromise on quality. The workmanship was absolutely first class with previous damage completely indistinguishable. The pride in their craft was clear with the hours spent on preparation of the surfaces. This was also evident when Gareth was dissatisfied with the original plan to paint one wall in a room and elected to paint the entire room at no additional charge to make sure it was right. It was a nice added touch that the team acted as movers in carefully moving our furniture and returning it after the work was complete - they even took photos to ensure everything went back in the right place. Anything left in a room was carefully covered and they were very respectful in removing their shoes and keeping our house clean throughout the process. We had the added dynamic of having our 170 lb Saint Bernard constantly trying to play with Liam but they all dealt with that in stride and fortunately we didn't have a "Beethoven" incident. I would highly recommend the English Painter to anyone.

My condo needed a paint update. The walls hadn’t been painted since the year 2000 and the colour on the walls was probably popular sometime in the 1980’s! I found English Painters online and was very impressed with the information and the reviews already entered. The communication between the office (Carol) to the start of the project was quick, efficient and very helpful. I had a lot of questions about the project – the type of paint to use, how to deal with issues afterwards – and the whole team – Carol, Liam and Gareth provided all the information I needed. The actual execution was wonderful. Gareth and Liam have a passion for their work and it shows. We had extensive wood refinishing work required on the exterior of our house. The English Painter quote was fair and we felt good about Gareth who came to give us the quote. We couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. They did exactly everything they promised to do for the quoted amount and even more, because they saw a couple of things that needed to be repaired. What company does that anymore???!!! They completed the work quickly without cutting corners on the quality of the work, and cleaned up everything so there was no garbage left behind. Most importantly, they are trustworthy – if they give you their word, there’s no doubt that they will do what they say. That's the toughest thing to screen for because everyone knows what you want to hear, it's a matter of whether they'll actually do what they say. Also, based on some repairs they did with replacing wood window frames and repairing cedar steps, I’m impressed with their woodworking quality and I’m looking for more jobs for them to do. Great company which I will take every opportunity to promote to friends and co-workers!
