These folks do museum quality framing, but at the same price and regular frame shops. They don't use pre-fabricated frames, purchased in bulk, but custom make everything. During my occassional visits, I've seen everything from baseballs to hockey jerseys to a wedding dress designed into an archival frame. If you have a valuable piece of art, this is THE place to go. They also have a small, but nice art gallery filled with the work of regional artists.

I went to Gemst for the first time today. With almost 50 drawings to frame. The service I received was incomparable. Sarah helped me choose so many frames and matts with alot of patience and great creativity. Eldor Gemst, the owner, listened to my story. The story of my son, Jesse Galganov, who is the artist. Jesse went missing in Peru in October of 2017, and we are still searching for him. Jesse was going to be a doctor. But he spent 3 months in 2013 drawing for his Intro to Drawing course at Wesleyan University. A course he never finished. But that’s a whole nother story... Elder hugged me, and I left. And then he called me. And he suggested that I use a method called “conservation framing”, that will allow these beautiful drawings that were drawn on “the worst paper ever created - it’s basically newsprint” (his words, not mine) to last (almost) forever. (It was a freshman course, so why would they use better paper...) Thank you Gemst, thank you Sarah, thank you Elder. I can’t wait until you finish - on February 5th, 3 days before Jesse’s 24th birthday. If you need framing in Montreal, choose Gemst.

The best art-framing in Montreal, bar none! Reg & Eldor Gemst have been sharing their keen eyes, refined aesthetic, and immaculate execution of frames with Montrealers for decades now. I started with one piece as a test and they came through with flying colours. A second test produced equal, if not superior, results. My latest job convinced me permanently. These guys know what they're doing. Their frames are meticulously executed and they help you to choose a design that will enhance the piece you are trying to display. The frame never takes centre-stage but, instead, amplifies (for want of a better word) the art you are framing. Simply magic! I would not dream of going anywhere else from now on!

I was going to Fabricville next door, but parked my car close to the entrance to Gemst instead. For those who haven´t been there, it´s the same building, same parking lot, shopping center-style. A guy with no hair and glasses came out from Gemst and said in a super rude fashion that since I wasn´t a customer of his I was taking his customers´space and that if I left my car there he would get it towed. There was pleeeeenty of empty parking spots left. Needless to say Gemst is on my blacklist. And I work in the artbusiness, a**hole.

Gemst was recommended to me by a friend after I got ripped off at another frame shop. I could not believe how cheap and yet completely professional it is! The store is staffed by two gentlemen, one of whom is Gemst himself, and they take absolute pride in their work. Their suggestions are usually spot on, and they clearly consider themselves to be artists or craftsmen! Unbelievable value and a superior product, and if you get to chatting, wonderful travel and food recommendations! I can't say enough good things about this place, just go!
