I was looking for something rustic and talked with Terry and he understood exactly what we wanted, he even showed us examples of some wood he had in the back. Kathryn was helpful with keeping us updated with our project. We ordered a coffee table and tv stand and it turned out absolutely perfect! I found Grain and Burl on the Internet. They said they could produce my table the way I wanted it. The table was produced on time and exactly as I wanted it. In addition I was looking for a custom metal base and they made that for me as well. I highly recommend them.

Grain & Burl has assembled a great team and it shows in the quality of their work. From the moment we walked into the showroom and met Terry and Kathryn, we knew we found our builders. It's one thing to like the quality of work, but the people behind it are just as important, so it was a perfect fit for us. Our black walnut live edge dining room set with matching mirror is awesome and we can't stop gushing over it. To make it even better, the wood was from a naturally felled tree and excess cuttings were used for the mirror. My husband and I purchase a live edge table and hutch all virtually during the Ontario lockdowns and we couldn't be happier. The entire staff was truly a pleasure to deal with. Buyer Beware We had a terrible experience working with Terry the owner at Grain and Burl. Many details were missed during our order, and only 4 of the 8 items we ordered for our kitchen reno were ever delivered correctly. Terry also sat on our deposit from April to Aug without doing any work on the project, waiting instead until he could measure for the 2 countertops before working on any of the other items. He didn't take adequate notes from our 2 in-person meetings and when many details were missed he pointed at his poorly detailed original invoice rather than standing by what we spoke about and agreed to in person. In one instance he showed me a sample in person, then when he delivered an item of much less detail and poorer quality he told me it was because he had no staff to run the piece of equipment that had made the sample I was shown. Terry also lost both of his woodshop staff as well as firing his designer during our order. The items we received were made by Terry and the quality of many of them was poor. Beware that when dealing with Grain and Burl the quality of work seems to depend on the team Terry has working for him, in our case, it wasn't great. Terry canceled the remainder of our order and refused to reduce the balance on what he had delivered compensate us for any inconvenience, missed time spend working with his designer on items he canceled, and days taken off work for installations that couldn't proceed as items were not as they should have been. The icing on the cake was Terry threatening to send our unpaid balance to collections, 3 business days after requesting full payment for the half order he delivered 3 weeks late and 1 day after telling us he was canceling the remainder of the order. I wouldn't recommend Grain and Burl to anyone, if you do choose to go with Terry make sure all details are clearly in writing upfront and buyer beware.

We wanted to spruce up our livingroom with a coffee table, but the colouring on it didn't really fit well. We had no idea what to do with it, but we took it to Terry at Grain and Burl, and asked him to touch it up for us. He went above and beyond to not only fix up the coffee table, but add in safety features to keep the drawers from wear and tear. We were indecisive with the colouring of the table, and left it to his discretion. He took everything into account, the couch, the floor, he even kept in mind that we had mentioned moving, and SOMEHOW made the table look astounding not only in our house, but in the next one we have just moved into. Very reasonable price, and all our friends have said something positive about it when we have them over. You can't find me going to any different place for furniture. Seriously, Terry's got it.

I contacted Terry with a vision of getting a custom round dining table created featuring epoxy in it. The result was an outstanding gorgeous walnut and black epoxy table that we are incredibly happy with. Then I ordered some chairs to (ideally) match. Unfortunately they weren't exactly what we wanted, even though they were custom made. So Terry went above and beyond, citing customer satisfaction as critical, and replaced them with a better design for our table. I was very happy with the whole process and wouldn't hesitate to order from Grain and Burl again.

I found G&B Designs after searching for months online and several shops looking for a perfect dining table with specific measurements. I sent an email and they were very responsive to my inquiries. They were very knowledgable, professional and accommodating. We enjoyed dealing with this family-run business and had a very positive experience for our first custom piece that will last for years. We were able to meet with the builder/artist to personal speak about what we needed and looking for, and affordable. Most of all we are so happy with the final product. We've already started to share the news with our a family and friends and have received several compliments. We look forward to having other pieces built and created by G&B. Terry was amazing -- his carpentry, attentiveness, and outstanding customer service were unbelievable.. He listened to our needs -- a counter height table that was slender in width -- and that could be ready in two weeks as we were moving to Nova Scotia. He suggested we look at a live-edge black walnut desk he had made and was in his workshop/showroom, and that he would remove the existing legs and have new 34" steel ones made. We asked so many questions about various wood, and care, and finishes, and Terry patiently answered them all, and probably repeated himself a thousand times. Two weeks later, Terry had the table beautifully wrapped AND delivered to the back of our uhaul truck bound for the east coast. We LOVE it -- and considering we started out at a furniture chain store with covid delivery delays and dried out split surfaced from China, we certainly were blessed to find and purchase from GRAIN AND BURL. We are still looking for more counter height stools, but here are some pics.
