Beautiful selection of table top game merch. Wide variety of magic packs, d&d books, and Warhammer sets. A small, nerdy, beautiful gem of St Johns.

Strong selection and I myself dealt with the owner and found him quite helpful. I'm daunted to play here as I know there's years of history and it seems there would be an established clientele but if I'm ever looking for cards, boosters or accessories, I love this place. Everywhere marks cards up. If i found this place any worse the neighboring stores it was negligible.

Bill Watterson

Good place to play cards and other tabletop games. The staff that I've encountered are friendly and usually knowledgeable about their products. However, some of the prices are ridiculous, especially on card singles. They price off of Ebay and it's not uncommon for them to price a card at $6.00 when it's actual value is $0.49 (as I just had this happen to me). Fine place to buy packs but don't don't bother with the singles. As this is primarily a specialty card shop I leave a low rating until they're somewhat affordable.

Joshua Meadus

The customer service was pretty good. I'm not a "Normal" customer at places like this, but I have to say the selection was great on Magic, D&D and other board games you just can't find in other stores around St. Johns. it was quite the experience first walking into the place, and I think that the only downfall (Besides touchiness with other stores) was the room space. I was expecting something a lot larger then the space of 1 1/2 office rooms. but it is tall, so the categorization system takes up minimal space. Room 2/5 Layout 4/5 Service 4/5 Stocked 5/5 Equipment 6/5 ( they have the best equipment for board games IN THE PROVINCE)

Great shop, the owner is very helpful and friendly, and knows his stock very well. I always leave with more cards than planned

Sword n Steele has so many options for DND I was very impressed. It also seemed to have plenty of Magic The Gathering. As well, it has plenty of options for dioramas, including various characters, trees, terrain, paint and more! Definitely worth it to stop in if you need anything!

I have been going to Sword 'n' Steele for years now and have experienced a rollercoaster of service. The main issues that I have noticed over the last few visits include: - Disinterested staff, which gives the customer an awkward feeling while doing business - High prices on certain products, including Magic the Gathering cards at 100% to 250% above normal market value - Very strict phone policies in which they will not reveal any pricing over the phone and will only give prices when at the store. This may be to curb people from going elsewhere but it actually does the opposite affect leaving me not to want to venture into the store not knowing how much my purchase will come to - Cramped floor space. When there is an event going on, it is near to impossible to browse the merchandise without either bumping into people or asking for someone who is playing a game to pass an item over to me However, even with it's issues there are some things the store does great: - Main location in the city to be able to purchase tabletop games/figurines (Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Flames of War, D&D) - Superb inventory of Magic the Gathering single cards - Excellent cataloging system for product, meaning the staff is quick to find what you are searching for - The ability to order in certain products if they do not have the stock in store and will hold it for you for a short period of time Overall, I have not been pleased with the recent visits to this store. I was an avid player and customer for years but with the lack of enthusiasm of the staff members, as well as other store policies it has really soured the experience for me.

A magical little shop. Lovely staff!!

Trevor Walcer

I have only visited this place once so far but they have a massive surplus of craft paints and supplies. If your into model building I'd highly recommend checking this place out for paints.

John Turner

Bragged about having "almost every card ever" then didn't have the three cards my kids wanted, and they weren't even expensive or old cards

Jacob Osborne

Great experience! Owner was VERY knowledgeable, kind and patient. He knew where everything in his store was located, when stock would be back in, what kind of products are used for what activity. Hobby Shops of any kind are a rare thing in Newfoundland, so to have one which is such a pleasure to shop at is a genuine privilege.

Mark OShea (Ryudo Razer)

Great place for all your tabletop games!

Ryan Meadus

Good store, very niche selection. Great place to find tabletop resources you wouldnt find elsewhere in town.

Nick Vm

Went in as a paying customer to buy a few magic cards. No prices on any singles. I asked for some prices and then was informed that they have a "3 strike rule" - If you ask for a price on a card and choose not to buy it, you get a strike. After 3 strikes, you cannot ask for any more prices. I was the only person in the store and they refused to let me browse cards even though I was unaware of this arbitrary rule until I apparently broke it. Very annoying, disappointing and overpriced. Don't bother wasting your time. Instead, go to Midguard Gaming or buy online.

Robert Traverse

Very helpful and knowledgeable

Yung Mojo

Don’t bother wasting your time or money on this dim, musty, literal hole in the wall. Take your business to Midgard or Timemasters, seriously anywhere but here. The owner of this place is quite possibly the most pompous, condescending tool I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The guy acts as if he’s running the Smithsonian museum but really has a hard time answering simple questions about his own stock. Prices are ridiculously inflated compared to other gaming shops in town, but I suppose that’s what you get when you use eBay’s “buy it now” price as your method of pricing items. Absolutely terrible customer service provided by an absolute bellend.

Overpriced cards and testy employees.

Jonathan Harrison

Brandon Small

Employee's are very kind and extremely helpful, but the owner seems to be laid back. Me and my friend went in and we were getting cards checked out and he was the only one who could check the prices on them. He went on for about 10 mins talking to someone else in the store having a general conversation without a care in the world before continuing to serve us. Also worth mentioning the yugioh card prices are ridiculously high! There was a card he sold me for 12 dollars and I looked up the price elsewhere and it was 2-3 bucks (price online was in Canadian dollars on online store for anyone wondering). Asked him how he checked his prices for cards because I was curious, and he said he simply looks on eBay and "decides" the best possible price from the buy it now options. While they do have a large selection their prices are ridiculously high on yugioh singles. The prices should be way lower, its pretty much highway robbery with some of them, and the employeees should have access for checking card prices so we don't actually have to wait forever to buy overly priced cards.

Alex Norman

David Kerr

On my visits I've interacted with the same very pleasant employee, though I've heard some mixed reviews about the owner. Some card prices are a bit ridiculous, but it's obvious which ones (from $5-$14 for the same card just because it comes from a different pack) and the simplest solution is to just not buy those ones. Overall I've enjoyed my visits and have mostly gotten what I came for each time.

Great helpful and friendly staff

Sir Sandbags

Poor organization, I often found my self discouraged from buying anything at times because I would have to interrupt two people in the middle of a MtG game in order to get at the shelf with the D&D books on it. Those playing and those shopping need some separation so we don't end up in each other's way. There is a huge mark up on MtG cards, sometimes even 200%, compared to what you'd find at midguard or online. In recent years it has earned them the nickname of sword and steal your money. To their credit they do have a large selection of MtG, D&D and other products.

Ronald Power

Have been shopping at this store since I was in junior high. The owner is very knowledgeable and the staff are friendly.

Scott Friel

Magic the gathering or war hammer/games workshop items, this place is truly a must see. They have a Vox and black lotus in the front display along with another card that I know is important to die hard MtG fans. The terrain and models are well painted and you can tell they love the game along with the store.

Rob Burton FRI REALTOR

Wow factor here! Friendly, helpful, courteous, subject matter experts. Son loved it Great DnD source. Best dice selection in all of NA looks like!! ????

Justin K

I actually don't live anywhere near them but I found the store through their YouTube channel. The videos had been great so I contacted them about making a purchase. Naomi was incredibly helpful and friendly and helped me figure out what I needed to get started in 40k tabletop. Would definitely recommend them to others. Everything was basically the same price as buying from GW and they shipped to me! I'll definitely be back in the future. Thanks for making it easy to get started!

Shop here at you own risk. Owner actively speaks will of customers behind their backs. Owner unapologetically will gouge customers and sell product well above the msrp. Store has a sign stating that people with poor hygiene will be turned away yet I doubt that business has had a thorough cleaning in the past decade. I doubt the carpet has ever been cleaned. Owner publicly complained that the military was not shoveling snow away from their business during "snowmageddon". Owner complained that city turned several blocks of Duckworth street into a pedestrian mall in an effort to encourage people to shop locally. These are all things I’ve witnessed personally. Not heresay or rumors. I’m sure there is more but as I said at the start. Shop here at your own risk.

Sebs RM

Lots of interesting things to look at, there are things from board games, cards, to all kinds of dice and even swords.

Lily McCarthy

Large selection of dice! Very nice

Patrick O'Rielly

Huge selection for a small store. Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, D&D, etc. All kinds of stuff. Knowledagable and kind staff. Great spot for MtG events.

If you like magic and gathering or war hammer this place is good, but if you want variety; this place is not the place for you. It would be much much beter if there was mor options.

George Durnford

It's amazing to see the best magic store in newfoundland rated so low by competition leaving bad reviews. They have the largest selection by a lot. The prices are comparable to big retailers or better. It is a shame that a toxic slander campaign has been waged against them.

Tyson S

Skip this place if your looking for any Magic products. Went to buy a Mtg single from the store maybe worth 10-15$. Guy had to write down the name of the card, look online, then call his boss to get the price of a rare card from binder. Came back with a highly inflated price. I told him it was considerably cheaper at Face to face games. Was then told to get it there. Was informed his boss gets his prices from the highest Buy it now price on eBay. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Colin Whiteway

Sword and Steele your money. Owner is very unfriendly and prices items according to current buy it now prices on eBay. I’d rather buy on eBay.

Scott Patchett

A nice little shop with a great variety of packs from the major card Games, as well as paints, miniatures and DnD books. Great customer service, friendly and knowledgeable.

Alan Thygesen

For people who are into the product they sell I guess it's okay....

Andrew Russell

I'm a little unclear of why the owner felt the need to watch me and my friend at an awkwardly close distance. I can discern one of three possible reasons: - The first being that I had thanked the nice girl behind the counter for "soliciting" me after she asked if I need help. I acknowledged that was a dumb choice of words and I apologized. - There was a trading card series that looked weeby as hell. Being certified weeb trash, I was curious if it was adapted from an anime. Me and my buddy started looking it up on my phone out of curiosity. Based on other reviews here, it's entirely possible that he thought I was checking online prices, and apparently they are testy about that. - Or the classic: They thought I stole something. I had not. (If its this one. I kinda understand a tiny bit, having worked retail. But christ dude, subliety. Don't just piercingly stare at arms distance) Regardless of what reason, or combination of reasons, none of these were acceptable reasons to hover over us at such a close distance, and then watch us for a couple minutes as we walk up Duckworth street. One might argue that I had been imagining it. I was not. That's how pointedly obvious he was being. If anyone is actually reading this, I'd really reccomend going somewhere that, well, doesn't do this kind of stuff.

Evan White

Lovely local hobby shop for everything from D&D to Warhammer 40k. Very friendly helpful staff. They also have a large playing surface for table-top gaming.

Cool store with a little bit of a lot of stuff but their stuff is too expensive. I'd like to support but doubling the price on stuff is unnecessary. Until I see better pricing I will be ordering all of my tabletop needs online.

Jacob Dubeau

I have gone to this store infrequently for over 15 years, as far back as it’s previous business name of Sage’s Hut. As others have said, store arbitrarily sets/enforces prices and policies. The owner is rather offensive and can regularly be seen intimidating customers, if not full-on arguing and yelling while at people while they try to shop over asking simple questions. The space is small and cramped at the best of times, and is impossible to browse through when one of their “events” are happening. Fortunately other stores in town carry or have access to all the same product these guys have, all without the looming uncomfortableness of having to deal with Peter Steele. Go elsewhere, Timemasters, Midgard, Noble, and others have better experiences.

Richard Westcott

Steve Pennell

It's been years since I visited this store. I was surprised at the awesome amount of paint and supplies they now have. Very friendly owner. I really enjoyed my visit and highly recommend this store.

newrev9er

Great staff, also love the YouTube channel! Just one of those places you can feel happy going to.

ancestral recall

I tried to buy some cards from their showcase and upon asking for a price I was told the manager would need to be phoned to determine that. When I gestured to their dozens of MTG binders and asked about them. . Same deal. The manager would be called and he would price things. I went to a 'store' but could not buy anything. That should tell you all you need to know when deciding to visit this shop.

Coleman Millar

K A

If you can find the cards online, or walmart or anywhere else, I would go that route. Don't support this place. They are currently charging 50 Dollars for a structure deck that I can buy from walmart for 16 dollars. I could buy a play set of deck boxes for the same price.

One of the best hobby shops in Newfoundland or maybe even Canada! The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. The store itself boasts an astounding collection of magic the gathering cards as well as other merchandise usual to a hobby shop. Definitely worth giving your business if you're on the lookout out for anything gaming related.

Neil Fillier
