If you don't know...you need to know. Helpful reliable and down right people people. Knowledgeable and shared info for a new fella to the city. I will continuously return with my support

Charlotte Kruszewski

I love the array of products, and the selection they have. The quality of things they bring in are excellent as well as their ability to order in things they don't currently have just for you. The brand's they bring in are high quality, so the prices match that, but they have options for lower budgets. 3 stars because every time I've been in, I've had poor customer service. The lady at the till answered my question, but cut off my second one before I was finished. Previous visits have proved the same. Staff that won't listen to a short question, or only answer while they're looking at a computer screen is a good reason for me to not want to spend time there. I'm scared to engage in discussion because the atmosphere I've experienced is elitist and unwelcoming. Tldr: love the high quality products, poor customer service.

The Paint Spot is more than a store. Beyond inventory that is continually upgraded, it is one of the friendliest and welcoming places in Edmonton. Many of the staff are versatile artists happy to share their own knowledge, tips and advice. The Paint Spot has an onsite exhibition space, and also Artelier-a studio complex that offers classes. The Paint Spot is a community activist promoting art related events city wide from ice sculpture in the winter to a giant Artwalk in the summer. The art scene in Edmonton would be impoverished without the energy of the Paint Spot!

New to the city, been to a few art stores in Edmonton so far, nothing really stood out here, but if I lived in the area I'd probably go. Most of the things that I had just purchased at Delta this week were more expensive here by a few cents or sometimes quite a few dollars. Some things they didn't have. They didn't have the size of canvas board I needed (6x6 and 8x8). The value finder tool I just got for $1 at Delta was $6 here. Lots of brand selection though, lots of Holbein which was harder to find in Vancouver. They didn't have the brush I needed (Princeton Catalyst LH Flat sizes 10/12) but they did have a smaller size, maybe 4 or 6, but that one was $21 which is what I paid for the size 10 I just got from Delta. It's not as expensive as Michael's, but not the best deal in town. Didn't have any interaction with staff so can't comment on helpfulness or friendliness. Out of convenience I would go here (if I lived closer) but I would probably save big purchases for Delta, or at least price compare online before deciding where to shop.

Covid season has been awfully tough to get paints and supplies at a reasonable price. I was thrilled to find out you could curbside pick up or order over the phone if you are having technical issues like me. The person who helped me was very knowledgeable on products and managed to get me absolutely everything I needed. Super quick. Excellent service.

Hands down my favorite art store. They carry a wide range of products from kid-appropriate materials all the way to professional artist supplies. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I have never had a poor customer service experience here and I always leave feeling like I got the help I needed. Whether I am just re-stocking or I need help with a new project or medium, there is always someone that is able to answer my questions. There is also a wide variety of classes and workshops as well as demos that are offered by The Paint Spot. These are now hosted in the beautiful new Artelier building that can run multiple classes at once. The owner of The Paint Spot, Kim, is one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. I have gone to her with plenty of silly questions and she is a heck of a problem-solver. I know that she treats her staff well and she also does a lot of work with the arts community. Being the mastermind behind the Whyte Ave Art Walk every year is no small feat! Kim makes it very easy for me to want to support her business. Give yourself lots of time if you're stopping in for the first time. It's easy to get lost thumbing through the huge variety of artist materials!

Maintenance Department

Good selection of art supplies for any type of visual art, but it doesn't end there. They do workshops and provide gallery space... Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Parking isn't that great at times. Prices are fair. Highly recommended...

Cindy McLaren

So many art supplies, it's hard to only buy a couple of items...I want them all! Everyone is very helpful.

misskristyjewels

Such friendly, helpful staff! And, so many awesome products! Definitely THE best art supply store in Edmonton!!

Jegapriya Adhavan

I went specially for this big Sketchbook 600 pages one. This sketchbook is very nice. I love it. They have good collection of art supplies. I always end up buying more then what I have on my list..

Jenny Chan

What a great little gem and local store in the Whyte Avenue area. Great spot for your painting supplies because they have a wide selection of products.

Lisa Chase

As an art teacher who has been buying supplies from all over Canada for the past 20 years, I can tell you that The Paint Spot carries a number of very hard to find art supplies. I personally order from them for my own art supplies and now I have started to use them for school purchases. They have friendly helpful staff and the orders are shipped promptly and with care. Thank You for your fine service.

Steve Murray

Great shop. I walked up and down each ilse like a kid in a candy store. The staff was very helpful, informing about specials on the products that I was purchasing. Since I am from out of town I was told how to use thier order srevice. Then we just talked about product that I had not tried but wanted information on and thier personal experiance with the products. Great shop, even better staff. I am envious that I do not have a shop like this at home.

Enty

Was a customer for years and unfortunately last several times I've gone some of staff ladies have been incredibly condescending and rude when I've asked simple questions about acrylic selections. I've been an painter for 10 yrs lol... ridiculous. You can get equally high quality product's at a more affordable rate at other art stores in the city .

Nathan Cannataro

Tucked away one block south of Whyte Ave, this hidden gem is an incredible collection of equipment for both amateur and professional artists. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful - definitely willing to go that extra mile.

Hilary Hex

The point spot is a lovely store that has a wide variety of high quality supplies, unfortunately I've had a few experiences with them now with snark or attitude from staff when I don't know what I'm looking for. While they will suggest I look elsewhere for products of projects, repeatedly they've done it in a way that makes me not want to return for future visits. Staff should be aware that just because a customer isn't spending money this visit, they wouldn't be returning to spend more in the future.

Tammy Falkner

I couldn’t say better things about how helpful, intuitive, welcoming and genuine the staff are. Shanti and (female) Jordan were both helping my daughter and I. The product selection is amazing and the prices are better than competitive, which surprised me due to their location in Old Strathcona. I started painting with acrylics many years ago...even mimicking the way encaustic paintings look. Over the years I branched out to other fine arts which lead to endless research for tools and equipment that are affordable without compromising quality. It’s now second nature for me to compare pricing and I haven’t yet found anything online that’s priced less. I am supporting a local business that is mindful of artists first and their profit somewhere after. A true gem.

Josh Chapman

Amazing store with a lot of selection with joyful and knowledgeable staff! My go to place for art supplies!

Bethany

The store overall had a very large variety of pretty much anything art related, canvases, watercolour, acrylic, oil, dyes, pigment pastels, you name it. But the prices were a bit expensive. You can get some of the same brands for cheaper online. The staff were amazing helpful and very friendly, so if you're a person dying to get your hands on some high quality art supplies right away, that would be the place to go.

Vanda Tran (Vandalism)

I’m based in Edmonton and ordered some metal leaf glue online for a painting I was making, I was thinking of driving down to the shop but it was a bit too far, so delivery was my only option. A few hours after I made my purchase one of the customer service ladies asked me if I wanted to drive down and pick it up instead, they said they’d return my $15 shipping cost. That honestly stuck out as such a considerate thing for a business to do. Most don’t really keep those things in mind since money is money, but they went out of their way to let me know I could get my supplies for cheaper. I ended up sticking with the delivery but I wanted to leave a review cause I thought that was lovely of them! I’ll definitely buy again :))

Lone wolf Studios

Love to buy from the paint spot, have been coming here for quite a number of years. Some of their prices are a bit high but you do get quality and a friendly face. There do have periodic sales and sometimes they will have a pallet sale. Really good buys, usually of loose paper for drawing, etc. A fairly good selection of paint brushes and niche items. They have a small selection of learning books/videos and there is classes that can be held in the back (but not sure about now due to Covid, might want to phone and ask about their plans for 2021 classes) Great selection of paints for oil/acrylics.

Patrick

Great little store for all things art related! I’ve been many times with my wife and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Today I went for some pottery supplies for an upcoming class and the tools were readily available at a reasonable price. The Paint Spot is always a joy to visit! Edit: My class is with the City of Edmonton!

I sent an email however it said that the email could not be delivered for some reason? I purchased a $200 gift card for my boyfriend near the end of last year. Upon being issued this gift card I was advised he would receive 20% off of all of his purchases in 2019. However yesterday he didn’t receive 20% off of his purchase, as the establishment said he would. He was also told that they couldn’t find his gift card for the first while and the staff was unfortunately unhelpful and it was a bit dismaying as our first interaction in the store went quite well. I would hopefully like to be in contact with the manager of the establishment to smooth this out and hopefully we are refunded the 20% which was supposed to be reduced from the total cost, and it can be re-added to the gift card I purchased. Cheers

AllwaysNeverRandom

Every time i come here i'm disappointed. They only carry the most expensive of materials, absolutely no Amsterdam or Basic paints. They also run art walk which is Extremely Overpriced for spots and very poorly advertised. I'm not even sure where the money goes to... it should be a free event. the only thing good i have to say about here is you can Apparently purchase canvas on lay away. and the staff arent rude. but if youre a struggling artist (and who isnt) this is Most Definitely NOT the place for you...

Laura Beaudin

Best place ever! If you need art supplies and they don't carry what you need, they are always ready to try and order it in. They aren't the cheapest art store in the city, but given the large amount of knowledgeable staff for a smaller-than-average supply store, they more than make up for it in experience, demos and reasonably-priced art classes in many art mediums.

Genevieve Scott

Simi recently rediscovered my passion for art, and started watercoloring, I quickly decided that I wanted to invest a little more money in tools, and so I went to the The Paint Shop for some help picking out some white nights paints, I had already ordered some from Amazon but would get my paints for about a month, so I went in and showed the colors I like and what I had bought, the service was so helpful!! Anne helped me pick out some basic colors so I had the essentials to make a painting, she was absolutely amazing and nailed the colors. I didn't feel intimidated or like I should know what in doing, very laid back place and I felt welcome as a newbie. I was so happy I went back and bought a pretty expensive brush, and again got the best service, they are all artist and really know the products. I highly recommend this place!

Maggie E

I've only ever ordered online since it's a little far too drive from Ontario. Quick processing and everything is packed carefully for shipping. They seem to carry a wide variety of products that aren't readily available elsewhere.

FuroBotto

I love this place.. I'm here almost every day.. finding new things i didn't even know about! Definitely inspiring to just be surrounded by good quality art supplies, beautiful art all over the store whether it's just a store demo or actual pieces of art hung on the walls/the gallery.. and a team of knowledgable staff that can answer most of your questions! and if they can't.. will at least point you in the right direction.. Not to mention that they run regular Art Classes all throughout the year! with amazing teachers that are successful and experienced artists!! I can't say enough great things about this place.. ...which is probably why i work here! Anyways i should get back to work.. a customer just walked in the door.. :)

Sandra Wiltzen

Look no further if you need a reputable art supply store.. they have everything and if the don't have it, they will order it for you! I've been dealing with these professional and courteous people for over a year since moving to Edmonton. Very happy, highly recommend!

Jerimiah Harris

By far my favorite art supply spot anywhere. Awesome, and informative staff. So much creativity seeping out of every square inch, that the whole of the area around it on Whyte drips with artistic expression. It's one of the only stores in Edmonton I'm tempted to consistently spend every dime I have on something new. From great people, to great art supplies, it's rarely something tickles my creativity bone as much as the Paint Spot does.

Peter Gegolick

The Paint Spot is always a welcome place to visit and their staff is always able to point me in the right direction with my art adventures. They also have an exhibition space, called the Naess Gallery, that is great opportunity to show your small bodies of work. I've attached a picture of the show that my paint group, the GOOPof7, hung in the space in November 2019.

Villia Jefremovas

The Paint Spot is a great shop. I am a printmaker, and the Paint Spot has materials that are hard to find. I ordered online, and there was a problem with the order (given what I ordered it needed to be shipped in two packages with shipping fees). They wrote immediately and when I called them the problem was resolved to both of our satisfaction. Great service, great products and lovely personnel.

Gordon R. Johnston

The Disneyland for creatives... minus the long lines and infused cotton candy air. The best place.

Next Step High School

Amazing staff and wonderful supporters of the local art community. Really looking forward to working with The Paint Spot in the future. Thanks Mike and Kim for all your help.

Atlántida Cels Solano (La Palomita)

Was good, and even when I couldn't find the different painting for my face to do it like the day of the death, they offer me another option. Thanks.

Paula Huisman

The Paint Spot is an exceptional art supply store. It is well stocked, well organized, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to visit again!

Rhea March

A true treasure for all art adventurists! This locally owned and operated business provides exceptional support to artists of every genre. Whether you're a true beginner (like me) or an established artist, you'll find a variety of supplies to fit your budget and your needs. The staff are all artists who genuinely care about helping you get started. There is no art-snobbery here so no need to feel intimidated. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with the joy of creation!

Asal Andarzipour

My favorite art supply store in Edmonton. I could only compare the Paint Spot to the stores in major cities like NYC. Staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. Always happy to support this place.

Roberta Taylor

The Paint Spot is shopping local at it's very best! Amazing selection and great service. I'm always inspired when I visit. This shop is such a vital part of our community and a huge supporter of local arts. <3

Karoll Brinton

I love this store. The staff is amazing. They have the most wonderful goodies for your creative endeavors. As I said leaving the store, "you gotta go crazy getting the goods to keep your sanity".

RedHedRedemption

Art supplies are not cheap however paint spot overpriced everything by a gross amount, while their prices are fair in comparision to say Micheals. Those Are Corporate(tm) Prices. Delta Art supplies in Edmonton offers the same selection of products for a fair price. I will no longer be buying at paint spot after spending nearly $500 on art supplies only to discover at Delta (without sales or discounts) I could have gotten the Same. Exact. Supplies. for $265. The staff are always friendly and helpful though.

Giselle Denis

I’ve shopped at The Paint Spot for years & they always have a large selection of quality artist supplies. You can find all your top of the line paints and canvases. As a professional artist, I highly recommend The Paint Spot for all your artist needs⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

David Cuyler

It's a really fine artstore. Good selection, knowledgeable staff, fair pricing. Owner Kim F. is very committed to the trade and to the City. It's a great asset to Old Strathcona, and the fine art community.

Courtney Powell

It seems like this is the legit place to come for painting supplies. I’ve only started to paint and was recommend to come here from a friend who is a true pro - this is his go-to-spot. It has a massive selection, helpful staff and you can spend significant time getting inspiration from all the paint and materials. They seem to run good deals but like most paint supplies when not on sale it’s pricy. The price comes with excellent quality tho and depending on the project totally worth it. I would fully recommend checking them out, no matter what stage you are in the art.

Kelly Dodge

I really like the new website, The Paint Spot has great diversity of product AND they are always prompt with delivery.

Zachary Teoh

Went to the Paint Spot for the first time at the recommendation by someone at Stylus, since I was looking for dip pen nibs. I was very pleasantly surprised at the range of supplies for calligraphy, including brush pens, nibs, paper, and paper, among other things. The staff saw me wandering around somewhat confused and quickly directed me to what I wanted, and were friendly and helpful. I will be going back in the future.

Hannah Smith

Absolutely love the Paint Spot, it's my go to for my art supply needs. The staff are always so nice and knowledgeable. Appreciate the service they provide and their involvement in the community. Love taking art classes with them also!

Kathy Put

I love the range of supplies, and that's there are choices at every price range. The class list is awesome. I plan to take a class this fall!

Shahdan baraka

Most of the products are on sale, the employees were friendly and helpful but the store is more expensive than Colour art supplies and online shopping. It was mentioned that silicone molds for art resin are available on their website but when I arrived there were none and only the one for customized casting is there

Abe A

Bought a drawing board here to use for one of the art classes they offer in partnership with Artelier a couple weeks ago. The drawing board’s clips do not hold on to the paper pads properly causing the pads to slip and the paper to rip in the middle of sketching. The art instructor recommended I return it. I went to return the product in person, the staff were condescending and said they’ll keep it and show it to the owner to make a decision. They called me the next day and refused to return the product citing because it has been used they cannot resell it. Huh? You want to resell a faulty product? Thanks, but no thanks. Will not be shopping here again, which is too bad because I enjoy the art classes, however by association I will not be taking any more art classes here either. If you have a business model that is more concerned about a $26 resale than customer satisfaction then I will be taking my business elsewhere. Beware of their “we stand behind our products, so if you should receive faulty goods, we will do our best to satisfy you” claim on their site. Clearly that is misleading since they won’t return or exchange a faulty product they cannot resell. Abe A.

Meg Web

I love the selection in this store, and while a place like Michael's is good for cheap products to mess around with, it's amazing to be able to get my hands on some high quality art supplies. So despite complaints of high prices, I don't mind, because quality makes a difference and you get what you pay for. I wouldn't consider myself a beginner artist by any stretch, but I've never had formal training either so I still have questions in regards to some mediums, colors, supplies etc. One of my first times in here I did feel like the staff was being a little bit impatient with the questions I was asking and being a little unfriendly with general interaction. I do know bad days happen so I hope this was just a one off. It certainly won't prevent me from coming back unless it ends up being a constant issue. Overall though, good little store and the staff knows what they're talking about.

rory higgs

Great customer service, super helpful staff. I run an art program for youth and The Paint Spot was very accommodating with the large/unconventional order. They've also been my go-to for ordering supplies online for my own painting practice during Covid (I'm in Vancouver, and for some reason local art supply stores were super slow to introduce online ordering). Definitely recommend!

Craig

I came in right before closing to pick up some last-minute supplies and gift cards and was pleasantly greeted by the team. The staff was warm, efficient, and passionate about their work. The store was very organized and easy to navigate. Top marks!

Ian Fraser

The staff here has always been great to deal with however as a warning if you dont have close to exact cash, no purchase is allowed. Had a 50, was going to spend about 20. Only disappoinment I have had here, moving on.

Eleni Lewis

My friend and I came to this store from across town to purchase canvases for a project. When I say the people working in the store on July 17th were BEYOND RUDE and dismissive, that’s an understatement. When we walked in no one even acknowledged us, they were too busy with each other and playing footsie with the resident hound (yes dog). We asked the young lady (blonde hair) for help she couldn’t be bothered to even get up, expecting us to get on the ground to search behind the stacks of canvas to check for sizes. I have never felt more unwelcome in a store in my life. It almost felt as though we were intruding or something. Will never be returning, customer service is dead. Zero stars

Josh B

Excellent prices for such a huge selection of supplies! And wonderful customer service. I found everything I needed plus more for my calligraphy supplies, amongst other things. No small feat considering I am left-handed and therefore need specialized calligraphy pens. :)

Karlie Scott

Great costumer service! Staff are very helpful and the store is willing to order certain products in if you request. I also enjoy the fact they have an online store! Makes shopping even easier! The staff is really fantastic.

Melissa MacKinnon

Service was bang on with helping my young daughter, and having her feel comfortable. She left feeling excited about, of all things, her new eraser and the range of in person classes available.

Heather

Edit: Back again to add another reason I love Paint Spot! A product I ordered recently was severely damaged in transit. It was a bottle of cleaning solution for screen printing and was completely empty by the time it arrived at my door. The box was a mess and literally falling apart, and Canada Post decided to just put it in a plastic bag and leave it at my door. Poor choice on their part. I contacted Paint Spot asking for a replacement, which they quickly gave. It arrived a few days ago, and the bottle was taped up and wrapped in multiple layers of plastic and bubble wrap, then put into a box. They were very careful to make sure that the previous issue didn't happen again. I love this store so much! Original review: I assume the reviews stating this store has high prices have not been looking for the same products as I have, because this store has some of the best prices for Red Baron Linoleum and Block Printing Ink that I've ever seen. On top of that, I live in Ontario. Their shipping prices are pretty cheap compared to most stores I've looked at. The shipment also came very quickly! Most of the art stores in my province, even the ones in Toronto and less than 2 hours away from me, have a tendency to ship about 3 weeks after the order is placed. I placed the order on November 4th and it arrived today, November 12th. 8 days is very impressive compared to most stores I've dealt with that are actually in the same province as me. The items were packaged very well and clearly handled with care. None of my items were even considered all that fragile, but they still took the care to put a fragile sticker on the package. This will be my go-to art store for shipments from now on!

Rebecca Lippiatt

The Paint Spot has everything an artist could want for projects or inspiration. Better yet, they have excellent customer service.

kaylin

The Paint Spot has a wide assortment of art supplies and staff who understand and have experience with the products. For example, I was there on the weekend and had some questions about fabric dye. An employee knew all the answers and had experience using the different products and provided instructions and ideas for different ways to use them. It was so helpful and way more efficient and less wasteful than purchasing something online from a faceless corporation and just hoping it will work out. Thanks Paint Spot!!

Janet Pacey

Great, quick service and always the best quality products. Can't wait to use all my new paint!

Ang Pound

I found the Paintspot googling for Canadian art supplies.I sent in an order and haven’t looked back. They had everything I needed to get started as a beginner and have been ordering ever since. Great service and prompt delivery on my online orders.I am a very happy customer and definitely will continue to be one.

my boss ordered a large amount from here (i think around $10000) as a donation for a school, trying to support a local store. The store wanted them to pay.. over $100 in shipping after advertising free shipping on orders over $150 (might have been less) when my boss called to have it rushed shipped their website doesn't give shipping time frames, they said it wouldn't be shipping till Monday (4 days to pack it), when she inquired on faster shipping (since its a school and kids needing it) they said they could pack it up today for an extra charge, they then closed for the next.. 4 days when the store called on Monday my boss stated "no i will just take the free shipping since you didn't rush it, I'm not paying the fee" so they emailed a large bill. suddenly they want this paid before its shipped they are no longer offering free shipping as they saw an option to get out of covering it. they made excuses for why and claimed free shipping is just 15 dollars worth despite the receipt they sent that said FREE SHIPPING. The store sent multiple emails demanding this payment and harassing my boss, then called her a liar...and a bully lol. they have since changed their website wording.. I found all the items on amazon or another art supply store cheaper and free shipping. horrible dealings with this store who clearly has an ego. gone are the days a retail store can behave this way and still keep business. their excuse was...Canada post is expensive...? So get a cheaper shipper lol they also seem to think things on sale is a discount...and word it like it was given as a curtesy your items were on sale. not a discount you gave for a large purchase. As you can see from their response they are claiming they were bullied by my boss simply saying..no i wont pay that, and pointing out you gave false advertising. My boss is a top 40 under 40..and gives generously to the community as you can see from the donation..price..an amazing person that is yes in forbes which they seem to want to smear?. Apparently this company is not above slander when they get a bad review and attack instead of apologizing. Its not mean spirted to give a bad review after bad service, its also not being a bully to say no I'm not ok with this charge. Its attacking your customers name call and manipulative to misrepresent your store as the victim..wow shame on you

Bryan Tran

Cute store off Whyte, excellent one stop shop for most art supplies, extremely knowledgeable and caring staff. Educator discount available.

Kayleigh Harris

Incredibly helpful and very friendly team,l. They are incredibly knowledgable and walked me through using a new medium.

Ergonomic Ego

What a great selection in inventory!! The Paint Spot is such an amazing source of inspiration as well as information. I love the great staff and the fact that they are all artists themselves makes for some great advice on really specific art related questions that the average joe-retail would not be as much helpful. Thank you The Paint Spot for being such a great pillar in strathconas art community.

Chandra Devam

Terrible customer service, expected me to pay over $100 in shipping, when was given free shipping at check out. Refused to honour it..Sent me a horrible email accusing me of lying and neglected to send my items and canceled my order after almost a week. Very unprofessional, you can get all their items sold on Amazon for free shipping. So much for supporting local. Very disappointing, and upsetting

Jillian Creech

Ridiculously high prices, most condescending attitude- terrible customer service. I won’t be back. Oversold us way too many supplies for an art class they offer then wouldn’t return the unused product- the VERY same day!! It was a beginner class & we trusted what they said we’d need. Now I’m reluctant to ever take a class again (although I really enjoyed the class) since they are affiliated with them. Huge missed opportunity- us “beginners” could have been very loyal customers if you would have treated us properly.

Cole Turner

Very knowledgeable employees that were more than happy to answer my questions and demo paint brushes before buying. Definitely recommend The Paint Spot to anyone looking for quality art supplies and advice to go along with it!
