I had a great experience getting ASA with Dr. Shatz and the whole team. He answered all of my questions pre-op, day of the op, and post-op. The surgery itself happened at the office in Springfield - I was very comfortable the entire time and felt well prepared for the recovery process. If you are thinking about corrective eye surgery, Dr. Shatz is a great choice.

I was shocked to learn that eyeglasses couldn’t correct my vision any further. I needed cataract surgery. Surgery on my eyes? No way! I visited Dr Shield who was very patient but didn’t push anything on me. After playing wrong music notes, I realized I had no choice but to pursue this surgery. It took me 3 years to summon the courage. Meanwhile, my friend used Dr Shield and assured me it was virtually painless, best surgery she ever had! And so I visited him again, this time resolved to go ahead with it. We discussed all the possibilities, which lenses would be best for me and came up with eyehance. These are new lenses that have been very successful, especially for someone like me with astigmatism as well as wanting to read music without glasses. At the Cataract Surgery Center, I asked the nurses about Dr Shield and everyone told me how wonderful he is. He is always on time and very efficient. He is very experienced and does excellent work. It felt good to hear that. I was also worried about having anesthesia but didn’t have to worry. A light sedation was all I needed. After surgery I didn’t feel groggy. Everything went as well as expected.Of course there was some minor discomfort m my eye which felt irritated, and burned a little from the drops, but that’s all. I was worried at first when everything seemed cloudy. I called the office and they got right back to me to assure me that was normal. Sure enough, by the end of the day it cleared. And now I must tell you how life changing this surgery has been! The world looks magnificent. I thought my windows were yellow, but they are a bright white! I could see every blade of grass on the field, every leaf on a tree, every detail I had forgot existed. My father’s paintings came alive again, how magnificent they are colored! I had forgotten. Everything is bright, beautiful, colorful and magnificent to behold! When I visited the Florence office I gasped when I saw the photos on the walls. I had forgotten what turquoise looks like, and how a bird is covered with individual feathers. I am like a baby seeing the world for the first time, smiling at all its splendor. Unfortunately, seeing such details meant my kitchen looked very dirty and I scrubbed everything down better than I have in years. It was also a shock to realize I now have wrinkles! But then again, I noticed that all my friends did too. That’s a small price to pay for the gift of such vision. I can’t express enough how transformational this surgery is. Dr. Shield is a magician. He created magic for me when he implanted these lenses. He could do the same for you. I feel as if I have been reborn. Thank you so much, Dr Shield!

I was well-looked after for many years by Dr Delaney at Eye Physicians of Northampton, so I had no hesitation in approaching them when I finally needed cataract surgery. Dr Shield was booked as my surgeon for the procedure. His very thorough assistant Bill took charge of scheduling and measurements for the next few weeks. The hyper-precision of this knowledgeable team gave me the reassurance I needed. My nerves imagined Un Chien Andalou, but the whole process was actually a breeze. Dr Shield recommended the new Tecnis Eyhance IOLs in my case, and I could not be happier with the results! I healed quickly and now take great pleasure in spotting tiny birds on trees in the far far distance, and driving at night in the rain. Excellent job Dr Shield! Thanks to all for everything.

I’ve been at the Eye Physician for more than 20 years. It is obvious that I’m highly satisfied with the care I’ve received. Dr Hubbe caught and treated on time a lesion in mi eyes that could leave me blind Dr. Dostal has deal with the rarity and deformities of my cornea and prescribes for me contact lenses that makes my vision good and comfortable. The staff is friendly and treat me with respect The location is airy, roomy. And something I appreciate a lot, I don’t have to wait to be attended. I’m a Dr. and I know that time is gold and can’t be wasted waiting to be attended. That is the reason I gave the Eye physician 5 stars.

Dr Shatz and his team exemplify professional commitment to their work. My LASIK pre -and post procedure evaluations besides the procedure itself were well organized, efficient, comprehensive and focused on improving my focus. And it worked! Just returned to the hardcourts this week after a month's layoff (2 weeks glasses only pre-procedure, 2 weeks recovery afterwards), and my aim is as true as when I was fitted for contact lenses 30 years ago. In fact, for a few nights, I had to remember I was not wearing contacts as I automatically started to reach up to take them, so accustomed to 20/20 vision only being possible with the use of lenses I had to teach my body its ok- you can see at night now too.

Yesterday's cataract surgery was a little more difficult than the ever-so-easy first. Have some scratchy eye pain, but the vision is just gorgeous. I had been dizzy since my first cataract surgery August 1st because the vision was too vastly contrasted to the 'new' eye's vision; my brain could not assimilate the difference. Suddenly I am no longer dizzy!!! To look out at the trees and see the color in them, the sky, the clouds. is such a gift of a clear new eyesight!!!! Ever-so happy to see so clearly; with my new barn studio and new eyes, I now have to live another 200 years. I gave Dr. Shield a print of a landscape drawing and told him, "thank you for the gift of eyesight." It is a mountain drawing when Mt. Norwottuck turns red for only 3 days a year. in November.

Went for a free lasik consultation and they were very good about giving me all information regarding the procedure. Got my procedure done in January 2018 by Dr Shatz and he was very informative throughout the whole thing. Had post op followup the next day after surgery and he made sure I was okay and what I had to do for the next two weeks. Highly recommend their practice if you plan to get Lasik!

I had cataract surgery this summer performed by Dr. Shatz. I have nothing but praise for Dr. Shatz for his professionalism and very caring manner. I went in for a second opinion for a cornea condition I have, having been told by a very well-known eye doctor in this area. I was told I needed surgery immediately. Something didn't seem right, so luckily saw Dr. Shatz. He reassured me that surgery was not needed immediately (if ever). I knew I had cataracts, but he left if up to me to decide when to have surgery. I am so glad I had it done! Also went to see Dr. Deidrya Jackson. She is brand new to the practice and is fantastic!!! She is also very caring and took her time with me. The practice is very lucky to have her! I liked her very much! If you're having any type of eye problems or a routine eye exam, make an appointment with them. You won't be sorry!

I was so nervous about getting Lasik but I met Dr Shatz and he completely put my mind at ease. There were several tests before determining if it was okay to have Lasik surgery. My cataract surgery was completely successful, and I learned some things that surprised me. After surgery on my first eye, I realized that the cataracts not only create foggy vision but change your whole color range to a kind of yellow green. i had become used to it and thought that was normal vision, but when it was removed from the first eye, everything became more blue/white and brilliant, clearly outlined. Amazing. And I somehow felt more at home in the world--the haziness of cataract vision made me feel distant from everything, not quite present. And, not to get too cosmic, but after surgery, I feel more connected with everything. Dr Shatz is wonderful--kind, thoughtful, smart, and obviously really good at what he does. And the staff, at both the office and the surgery center, were welcoming, compassionate, and reassuring.

The problem with this company is that the optical shop does not answer the phone (for two days) and I am therefore unable to pick up my glasses. It is unconscionable that they don't answer the phone.

I always had thought about having Lasik surgery, but never met anyone personally who had done it. Every advertised price was way out of my range and the idea of a laser in my eyes was scary. When having an eye exam with Dr. Shatz I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask if I was even a good candidate for Lasik. It turned out I was a good candidate (hurdle one), they had a groupon available (hurdle two), and last but not least the pain. The Eye and Laser Center took their time to reassure me that there would be no pain, just pressure. I can do pressure. I cannot say enough nice things about everyone involved in the process. They were very patient, kind and took the time to make sure that ALL my questions were answered. Now three weeks later, I am still amazed when I wake up to see the clock! This has been a major quality of life change for me. Why did I wait so long!

Five years ago I was informed that I had cataracts on both eyes, treated nearly 20 years earlier with Lasik in NY. At that time and subsequently, I was told that any cataract surgery would need to be performed in either Boston or New York since I no longer had a "normal eye." I am so grateful to have found Dr. Shatz who not only stated that he had done such surgery but then did so several days ago on my right eye with excellent results. I had a few hours of minimal discomfort and that very day could use the computer without reading glasses. Happily, I am able to use an e-reader without glasses and more importantly now see the world sharply and in vivid color. As a retired nurse, I have high standards for quality patient care. Dr. Shatz and the entire practice meet those standards.

I have had COVID-related eye problems, but the doctor I saw dismissed it as nothing but sun damage without considering what I was saying and didn't even seem mildly curious that I had found some medical literature on the issue. I don't think anyone actually looked me in the eye during my time there (no pun intended) I would not go back.

I recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Shields of Eye Physicians of Northampton at the Cataract & Laser Center West. The staff at the center were very informative and knowledgeable. They were amazing! I was nervous to have the surgery, but the entire staff made me feel at ease, Dr Shields talked me through the entire surgery, explaining each step of the process and keeping me calm with his explanations. A follow up call the afternoon of the surgery to ask how I was feeling and to ask of any concerns. Next day a follow up appointment is scheduled to take a look at the eye. Within 2 days vision is absolutely clear. I didn’t realize what I have been missing before surgery. I can not wait to get the second eye done. Do not expect ANY eye care if you sign up as a new patient with Dr Jackson. Her policy is to not allow the office to make an appointment for you until she reviews your medical records. Unfortunately, three weeks after receiving my medical charts, she still hasn't reviewed them. I'm having an issue with glaucoma, not just needing a regular visit. Apparently, not important to her! Thankfully, I have found a new, more interested opthalmologist! Pretty poor behavior for a new doctor!

The best money I've ever spent! I had done quite a bit of research prior to choosing my physician for LASIK since I wanted my eyes to be in good hands. I am so happy I picked Dr. Shatz. I honestly cannot say enough good things about him. He is very calm, kind, and trustworthy, and he made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was as close to painless as possible, with just a bit of pressure with the clamps and microkeratome but it was very tolerable. My experience with Eye Physicians of Northampton was altogether wonderful. The staff were extremely professional and kind, I felt as though all of my options were presented to me, my follow up appointments were easy to schedule and my recovery was relatively swift. My only complaint was that they had to outsource my ASA surgery to another office where the staff felt a little less professional. If they could start bringing all of their procedures in-house, they would get a 5 star rating from me in a heartbeat.

Thank you to Dr. Shatz and his surgical coordinator, Aubrey for pulling off a miracle. We wanted to give our son LASIK surgery as a birthday/holiday gift but could not figure out how to get it scheduled -- away at college, different schedules, life, etc. Nothing is simple anymore! Somehow, they were able to find the days and times that fit when he was home. The simple choice of going to Eye Physicians of Northampton worked. I just had cataract surgery for my second eye. I had lots of trepidation about anyone doing anything with my eyes. Everyone in the office was very understanding. There were some decisions to be made about the best type of lenses for me. Dr. Shatz was extremely patient in laying out the various options, suggested some creative ways to help me decide, and was caring and reassuring during and after the procedures. As someone who has been myopic for most of my adult life, I feel as if I've been given a wonderful, life-changing gift. I highly recommend Dr. Shatz and his skillful staff.
