Beautiful facility and great, quick service
I was referred to Dr. Shakoor or Dr. Vitali for my 8 yr old daughters eye problem. Her eye was angry red a couple days before we were to come to Utah. We saw an Optometrist there, who put my daughter on a steroid eye drop and said it was vital to have her seen by an Ophthalmologist the following week. I've been trying my hardest to get some movement in getting her into either doctor. Between my hubs and I, we've called over 10 times, have never gotten the same story and we have yet to speak to the same person twice. No matter how urgent I try to convey the situation is, I don't feel they're understanding of it nor are they trying to work with us. It's now Tuesday of the week she needs to be seen. We have yet to get my daughter a schedule. I have cried many tears trying to get her into the best of the best. At least that's what I've been told. But I'm now left with nothing, but to try and find another Ophthalmologist somewhere here in Utah. I get that this is a unique situation. But the fact that no traction has been made as of yet, and nobody can help is frustrating and depressing. It's an 8 yr olds vision I'm dealing with here, and if she cannot be seen in the timeframe she needs to be seen, just say so and quit wasting my time and energy. Then refer me somewhere else that can help me, since you obviously don't care to have my business.
I bought my first pair of glasses here. I paid $300 for frames and lens that I could have gotten online for less than $100. DO NOT BUY YOUR GLASSES HERE.
Great Doctors and staff
Dr. Akbar Shakoor at the Moran Eye Center was Knowledgeable, direct, funny, and encouraging when he could be. He took that time to answer all my questions and explain what to expect in the future. Exceptional bedside manner! This was a huge relief in a anxious stressful situation. He even took the time to personally come back in and give me my first eye shot. Every single person on the staff was kind, positive, and patient. They took tons of time to explain what was happening and then quickly moved on to the next step, almost no waiting. Thank you, thank you thank you. My wife and I share this account. So that is here picture.
We're been to Moran for adult visits before, but I have to commend Carmen, their scheduler, for really exemplary service and kindness. She spent a generous amount of time on scheduling an appointment for our son, going through symptoms and urgency to make sure she could get him in to the right doctor in the shortest amount of time. She was kind and patient and extremely professional. She made me cry with gratitude, I hope the Center knows what an amazing "front-line" representative they have.
Long waits. No call backs. Wrong information.
I don’t usually leave reviews but I’m very upset and disappointed with Moran Eye Center. I was told 4 years ago by a doctor that I have bilateral episcleritis. She told me to take ibuprofen and put eye drops in and it would go away... I was very didisappointed in that doctor so I went and got a second opinion and was told the same thing but was put on steroids. well 4 years lateral I’ve still had constant problems. I decided to get a 3rd opinion to see if there is anything else I could do since it’s been 4 years and no help. I came to the Moran Eye Center in hopes of having a physician listen to me and find further treatment options to help with the pain and irritation. I first saw Dr. Taven at the triage center who confirmed I have bilateral episcleritis and said it was abnormal. I was put on steroid and told to follow up with a specialist since I have had this going on for awhile. 2 weeks after seeing Dr. Taven I saw Dr. Amy Lin who was suppose to help figure out another treatment option for my eyes other than daily eye drops, steroids and gel drops. After seeing Dr. Lin I have lost all hope for ophthalmologist and will never go back to the Moran Eye center. Dr. Lin informed me that I have dry eyes and not episcleritis... even though 3 other doctors have confirmed that I did. She put me on gel drops which I am already doing daily, told me to have a humidifier in my room which I already do, and follow up in 1 month.... what was the point for me to see a specialist who told me to just continue what I have already being doing for 4 years to see if it works.... make no freaking sense. I felt like I was not being listened to as a patient which is very frustrating.
Poor service, a few unfriendly receptionists, no one in the waiting room yet I still had to wait over 40 minutes. Not a good atmosphere...only reason I'm giving it a 1 is the nice views
Beautiful facility, nice people everywhere we went! Definitely the place to go for any kind of eye issue. Very clean, easy to find and better yet, the parking was convenient, easy in and out of the underground parking and it’s free. We were too late to enjoy lunch, but the restaurant looks great with views that are breathtaking! The only downside: be sure to take a coat in the summer, it’s bitter cold from the air conditioning.
My eyes hurt. A scheduler supposedly accidentally scheduled me for March 23 rd. I called in February to set up this appointment they misplaced. Horrible journey to get to Dr. Mifflin.
We've worked with the Moran Eye Center for my Son's glasses. The first time we went, it felt like they didn't want to help us. We had gotten different information every time we spoke to someone, so that was confusing as well. They have told us they don't accept any insurance whatsoever, and when we asked them for new lenses for son's glasses, they said we'd need to drive down to make sure the lenses fit the frames. However, he wears a standard size of toddler frames that they should easily be able to pull up on their system and know what size lenses go in those frames. I'm sure they're great for a lot of things, but we just haven't been impressed. They don't make anything easy and in today's age it seems like things should be a bit more streamlined.
Save you're time and money, and find another clinic. This place has the worst, WORST SERVICE!!! Waited 4 hours to have an a%* hole dr. Trwat me and let's just say there's nothing to compare it too. Ilm be reporting to dopple and other state licensing divisions!!!
I’ve been taking my Mom to the Moran Eye center for probably 2 years now for her macular degeneration. She sees Dr. Bernstein. More times than not we have to wait a considerable amount of time. Today, her apt. took almost 3 hours. This is so inconsiderate and ridiculous that Moran can’t manage their office in a more professional and timely way. Fix something please!! This is unfair to all these elderly people too.
Excellent service!
Great experience and the best eye doctors in town. They really do their best to take care of you. I would highly recommend them. Second visit. First visit was great as well.
Doctor acted like he was in a hurry.
My mother lost her vision so sudden. I made her an appointment here at The Moran Eye Center. She came and got her laser surgery for her eye pressure right away.
Doc acted rushed, and unsurprisingly, didn't have much of a bedside manner.
friendly optomitrists
The Moran eye center sent me a voicemail telling me that my eye appointment was at 1:40, and didn't receive a conformational email. When I arrived they said that it was at 1:15. They said they would get me in as soon as possible. I waited an hour, they never tried to get me in so I left. I wasted my time for their mistake.
Just not worth it AT ALL!
The Neuro Ophthalmologist receptionist was incredibly rude to me???? I was very interested in a doctor here and called to ask some questions and she was very short and snippy. Not understanding or friendly at all the way you would expect a receptionist to be. I was kind of shocked, honestly. Not a good first impression.
Comfortable great staff
The Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah is a complete eye hospital and cares for any injuries or disease of the eye. The doctors at Moran have dozens of specialties and serve thousands of patients per year. Exams, surgical procedures, testing and research happen in this building which is beautifully appointed and state of the art. They also have an optical center which features hundreds of eyewear frames, lenses and contacts that serve many people in the valley including the large community of University of Utah faculty, staff and students.
What i dont understand is why doctor Amy Lin at the eye Moran Center diagnosed me with dry eye and prescribed Omegas oil in addition to eye dry drop, recomended to see me in 6 months when the reality was I had a retina disease, why she didn't refer me to a different specialist. I was examined by 5 different tecnicians, going from one toom to another, at the end she spend 5 mins with me and gave me her final diagnosed. I had this problem for 5 years, took a ride for one hour to see her, coming back hopeless. Believing that everything was in my head. Sad, but i dont want to go back to the Eye Moran Center, i change insurance an i was seen gor a Retina doctor who diagnosed me with Retinal disease.
The receptionists aren't the friendliest, prices aren't the cheapest, and it took over a week before I got my glasses but they have a nice variety with good quality. Eyeglasses only. They do sell contact lenses upstairs but only the Acuvue brand for this specific Moran Center. Website is a bit misleading.
My mother came down from Idaho with a torn retina. We didn't have a referral and didn't make it in time for triage. Diana was an angel and made sure we were seen right away by the best retinal specialist possible. He found a second tear and treated it right then and there. Everyone we dealt with was professional and warm and personable and my mother received fantastic care. I would trust my eyesight to them first.
Customer service is horrible. The nurse did everything she could to show me how little she cared and how badly she didn't want me to come to their office to see their doctor. She went out of her way to make sure I understand that nobody gives a crap and that the wait will be 6 (!!!) hours if I dare to come.
I had to ask where and how to get my contacts and eye glasses after I saw the eye Dr. The contact assistant was busy with someone for over half hour then when i asked how much the contacts i needed were first was told they don't even have them there to try a sample pair to even know if they will be the right prescription for my eyes. Then they would have to order them and I was able to order online for cheaper. Then when I went to look for frames no one said anything for quite a while and not busy at all. Finally I got someone to help me and spent quite a bit on glasses. I'm going to pick them up today and hope they are good 'coz I'm not even wanting to have something to wear that i don't even know if they are the right frames for me or prescription lenses. guess we'll see.
Dr. Patel is amazing, so talented, long wait to see him but he’s the best. He’s changed my life. Thank you
Expert, right to the point, and quick service. Great diagnostician, and tests you cant get done within thousands of miles. They are direct and honest in their conversations, and explain everything well.
Dr. Hoffman made a big mistake on my toddlers eye surgery and never admitted it. As parents, we were never informed. His mistake has caused her to become blind in that eye over the years. We have learned of the mishap through another specialist. Had we as parents known, we could have possibly sought further surgery to correct his “slip of the knife.” So sad that Dr. Hoffman’s ego led to significant difficulties, vision degeneration, and eventual blindness in that eye.
I was in triage with sudden blindness in my left eye on Friday April 30th and told I have a tumor. I was scheduled with a Doctor who I was told was in my network to see me about surgery options. I called my insurance to double check and he is not. I’ve made several desperate phone calls to the Moran Eye Center to see who can see me but have yet to get a response. Meanwhile I’m left to sit with the fact that I can’t see out of one eye and have a tumor of some kind. It’s now the 5th of May and I’m yet to hear back. I’m not sure I can convey how urgent this is, and to get complete silence is extremely discouraging.
Staff at the optical shop were not friendly and make you feel stupid for asking questions. If you are ok with no one smiling ever and feeling like you're not worth someone's time then I'd recommend shopping for your glasses here.
Dr. Marx was great with me. I wanted my vision corrected and it is so much better. He also as a bonus corrected my eyelids and so far , I am thrilled with his work. Thank you so much
I wish I could remember all of the names of the people that have helped me at Moran. From the staff in the triage to everybody in Dr. Warner's and Dr. Shakoor's offices, they all cared about my well being and made sure I was aware of what was happening with my care and why. I cannot thank you enough.
BEWARE I was told by Dr. Moshifar’s office that my insurance would completely cover eye surgery by 100%. One year later I received 2 bills for a lot of money. I caution anybody who can’t afford to pay for the procedure not to go here.
Wonderful and caring facility! Dr. Katz and Technicians were very professional and awesome! Thank you Taylor for your excellent care too!
Dr.Digre and Irena are Amazing and treat you like one of her own. We live in Idaho and drive for hours just for their expert opinion. Totally worth it! We Love Them!!!
I had 2 cataract operations there, and I would recommend to anyone who would need eye care there. The entire staff was professional and caring from the moment I walked in the door, during pre-op, during the operation and after. I have never seen such a well run set up. You know what is happening and . The nurses were so caring and kind. Having surgery on your eye can be a scary thought and it's comforting to know you are in the best hands possible. Thanks to all there. Especially Dr. Katz.
The two stars are for the eye doctor, Mark McKay, who does a solid job. Taking off three stars is due to the extreme difficulty I've had getting trial lenses. After waiting a week and a half to hear back, I've called twice, left messages with my phone number, and have not had my calls returned. It should not be this hard to get trial lenses. A place operating on this scale should have them in stock and if not, should not need to take two full weeks to get them.
Very impressed with the level of care an attention that you receive at the Moran Eye Center. Also wanted to note that Jenny at the Moran Eye Center Optical Shop does a great job!!! She goes out of her way to be helpful and provide great customer service. Jenny deserves a raise. Lloyd
Dr. Mckay and his intern were great! The two stars are for them. Contact lens center on the other hand, is horrible. Getting trial lenses took way longer than expected. They rarely answer the phone and don’t return calls. Finally got ahold of them and received a quote significantly higher compared to what I have been paying. When I asked questions about billing insurance she made absolutely no sense. Said it would take 3-4 weeks to get my contacts. Ended up calling my old eye doctor, $120 cheaper and they will be here in 2-3 business days. My advice: go here for the doctors and to get a prescription but go somewhere else to order contacts.
Beware of charges. I asked before receiving treatment if they had received preapproval from my insurance company. They told me it wasn't necessary because the medication was a sample. I later recieved a $900.00 bill and after asking them to review it, we are going to have to pay it in full.
Dr. Vitale and staff have taken excellent care of my eyes when they reacted negatively to a drug I was on. I have received the most professional and warm care. The lab assistants that have run tests were great also. I highly recommend them.
I have went to the Moran Eye Center for over 25 years and I am never disappointed with my doctors. Dr. Olson for my Keratoconus and Pellucid Marginal Corneal Degeneration who has completed 2 corneal transplants for me. I also visit with Dr Chortkoff for glaucoma and she is the best. She always explains in-depth and makes sure I understand the tests results. Because my eyes are special it is quite the feat to get contacts to fit , but Dr. Myers and before him Dr. Ollafson are amazing and I can still see wearing my Sclera contacts 20/20. I am so grateful for the doctors above and all the other doctors and staff at the Moran, because without them I would be using a white tipped cane and a seeing eye dog.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK FIRST TIME AND GOT TREATED LIKE CRAP BY THE TECHS FROM DR CROMBS OFFICE IT WAS HORRIBLE I ASKED IF THAT WAS THERE JOB TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL LIKE CRAP AND THE BALD TECH SAID YES IT IS!! DON'T GO TO DR CROMBS AND THE APPOINTMENT WAS FOR MY 10 YR OLD SON THE TREATED ME LIKE GARBAGE IN FRONT OF HIM WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!!!
Great job..for surgery
The team of people that helped me were wonderful. Very professional and attentive to my questions. If you need specialists or want an informed team..this is the place to be. couldn't have had better care.
Dr locharelle was very kind and patient. Give them a A+
Awful experience. Dr. Patel and his team were carless, inattentive and disrespectful during and after the operation. Their lack of focus made the surgery and the outcome horrible, ended up with two eyes looking very different from each other. I have to have another surgery to fix up their mistake, while they are trying to cover their mistake, and offering a band-aide solution. I do not recommend them at all. Save yourself pain and agony, go somewhere else.
Horrible experience with billing. He is supposed to be an in network provider per my insurance, until he decides to use a different tax ID and then he is not. Had to cancel a planned surgery due to this. His Tax ID is as if he saw my daughter in California. Sounds like some billing fraud to me. Be careful!!
I had cataract surgery. Some complications. I need a redo! I had good doctor's! Surgery team was great and I was treated well! Would recommend to EVERYONE!! Drs. Pettey and Long were great! Merry Christmas to all!! Front person has attitude that's TERRIBLE! He is rude and abrasive!
I am extremely unhappy with the John A. Moran Eye Center. Our 5 year old son was diagnosed with Coats disease in December of 2020. We live in Montana and have traveled to have two surgeries at the Moran Eye Center. The post surgery care is rushed, unprofessional, and incompetent. Our son, a 5 year old boy, falls into the category of patient most at risk of emergence delirium. This occurred after his second surgery in March of 2021, which was scheduled weeks in advance - meaning you would like to believe they would have the staff on hand to work with a young child on the date of the scheduled surgery. The lead anesthesiologist and nursing staff vacated the room while he was in a rage. My wife and I did not know what was going on and upset. They did not communicate, instruct, or help in anyway. At one point my son was trying to rip everything off of him including his plastic band on left wrist identifying him and the anesthesiologist offered that I should give the scissors I had in my hand to him so that he could cut it off himself as he would not come to me and allow me to do it for him. This is while he is kicking, hitting, and punching my wife and I, the metal back of the hospital bed, and swaying/walking unsteadily in the recovery room, not to mention tearing at himself. Incredulous at the suggestion, I said "No, I think that's a bad idea." I asked for help/advice in the middle of his emergence delirium to the gathered staff by the nurses station and was told "to get him out of here." We left the facility with our son wearing only sweat pants, screaming and punching me while I wrestled him into my arms to get him to our rental car. No one made sure we made it to our car in the underground parking garage. No one called to follow up that he had settled down after leaving the facility. I am incredibly displeased with the response from the staff when I tried to politely, but ardently, communicate my concerns with our son's post surgery care. It seems "out of line" to express any criticism of their process or care. Upon requesting medical records/charts for the care my son received, they failed to note in his medication chart the midazolam (Versed) he was given prior to his second surgery. They admit a charting error but I don't believe much digging has been done into the situation that occurred with our son. It is frustrating as we value and appreciate his doctor, but the facility does not seem competent with young children and the accompanying difficulties that can occur with anesthesia. Mistakes in any industry can happen. I am very unsatisfied with their response to what occurred in March. The internal investigation is little more than paper pushing and a canned customer service response. If you have a child that needs a surgery, advocate for your child to have the surgery where the staff will be capable and prepared for a surgery on a child. Anyone in a situation with a son or daughter that needs medical care can relate to the difficulty of getting them to have the checkups and procedures they need. You cannot guarantee that a child will not experience emergence delirium post surgery. But you can have trained staff that provide instruction, think on their feet, and show empathy and concern for their patient's wellbeing. You should also be able to expect accurate and complete medical records upon request.
The first time we ordered glasses for my little one it took 3+ weeks to get them. When the dr checked them the prescription was perfect, but the bifocal line was much too high. Now a new lens has been ordered with a new prescription and it has been 2 weeks and we still haven't gotten the new lens. They take a really long time to make lenses!
Dr. Marx and the Moran Eye Center staff have been fantastic. They are friendly, professional, caring and most of all very much on time. Had a great experience and did an wonderful job with my eye surgery.
