I have followed Dr. Suzanne Sutter from her last practice to this one. She is absolutely fantastic. She is patient, thorough and explains everything to me so I understand. She is a great listener and you can tell she really cares. I also have brought my daughter to her from a very young age. She is very anxious about medical procedures and exams. Because I have a deteriorating bad neck my progressive lenses were no longer doing the job and my consultant suggested I see Dr Sutter at OBO who took a long time explaining the way forward in laymans terms giving me the options available. Once the prescriptions were produced there was no pressure from staff regarding the types of frames for purchase. A large selection were available in store to chose from. Professionalism coupled with a gentle non-intrusive sense of humor, made my time in the store easy and enjoyable. I came away feeling that I can go go back anytime should I encounter any problems with my new aquisitions.

I'm very squeamish about my eyes being touched, and have struggled with eye exams in the past, but he has always been accommodating and patient with me. He takes the time to explain what each procedure is and what the results mean. If you're curious about optical health, he's more than happy to explain! Have been getting my eye exams done here for years. First came to see Dr. Patterson several years ago and he greatly changed my previous prescription which was massively overprescribed by another practitioner in town. This provided me with tremendous relief of eye strain and fatigue. Have also seen Dr. Sutter and she is great. I had a most enjoyable and relaxing time at OB Optometry this week. I like the wide open space I walked into and the eye glass selection. After the preliminary eye test, I sat in a very nice waiting area. I also noticed a somewhat more private area where people can practice and/or test their contact lenses. The decor is clean and streamlined and the staff very nice and helpful and accommodating. As annoying as eye exams can be (been going to them for 50 years) this was the most efficient and pleasant in that Dr. Sutter would give me feedback as to her findings and easily answered my questions. I have never been to Oak Bay Optometry, however I wanted to write something nice here about an optometrist there Dr. Mark Paquette. I work as a technician at an Opthamology clinic in Victoria, and from time to time we take on-call urgent referrals. Dr. Paquette had referred a 99 year old woman to be seen on an urgent basis and then proceeded to personally drive the patient to her appointment at our clinic as all of her family lived in Vancouver and she can get very easily confused. If that's not a man who truly cares about his patients, then I don't know what is. Dr. Paquette if you ever read this - thank you for getting this woman safely to our clinic and for being such a kind individual in a world where it can sometimes feel like there are no good people left.

I see an ophthalmologist regularly, and a few months ago (at my request) he gave me a new prescription for contact lenses (which I've worn for 40 years). I took this to Oak Bay Optometry and had them fill it for me. Turns out, it was way too strong. I've just got back from a fitting with the charming and highly professional Mark Paquette. What a completely stress-free, comfortable experience! He explained what he was doing every step of the way, and was quick but careful. They're making a straight exchange with the year's supply I'd already bought, which is a great relief. I won't bother looking anywhere else for contacts in future. And yes, with a rebate, they were cheaper than Clearly.ca! And the staff did a wonderful job of keeping Roger-the-Dodger (wire haired fox terrier) happy while I was in the exam room. What more could I ask?! Highly recommended.

The people at Oak Bay Optometry were the first who really got what I was looking for in glasses and service. The staff has always been really friendly and efficient and Dr Patterson is approachable, thorough, and good humoured. The prices are lower than I had paid in other shops and the selection of frames is as good or better for the kind of thing I'm looking for, which is on the higher end of design. I moved away from Victoria a couple of years ago but I still go back to them for glasses and they mail them to me quickly. I'd have a hard time going anywhere else.

I let them know ahead of time that I have PTSD that makes medical appointments hard for me, and everyone I spoke with and met was very kind, reassuring, and non-judgmental. Other reviews mention how patient and accommodating Dr. Pacquette is, which was my experience as well—he even offered to do a "practice run" of the glaucoma test with me, so I could first see how close the equipment would get to my face before making a decision about whether to go through with it. I feel like I will not be as nervous the next time I come in. They made the financial side as stress-free as possible. They let me know that they direct-bill MSP and drop the remainder of the copay for people on ministry assistance, so the exam was fully covered for me on PWD, which I didn't expect and really appreciated. They also asked if I was interested in new lenses and frames, emphasising that there was no pressure to fill my new prescription with them that day or at all, and had someone sit down with me to discuss how they could work with my coverage options after I expressed interest. Finally, I want to note my positive experience as someone who is non-binary—when I mentioned having a preferred name, they updated it in their system right away and checked in with me about what pronouns I use. Marcus was also super helpful working with me when I mentioned wanting to find frames that make my face look less feminine. I felt safe and cared for in every sense by all the staff at Oak Bay Optometry and would highly recommend them based on my experience, especially if you typically face barriers accessing health care.

Dr. Sutter is very professional in her practice and takes the time to explain in layman's terms what she determined from the examination. After spending considerable time looking at my right eye retina, she referred me to an ophthalmologist for further scrutiny. That appointment was promptly arranged for the following week after which a laser repair was done to a small hole in the retina. One of the dispensers on staff made recommendations for my new glasses which were then ordered and ready for pickup the following week. I would highly recommend Oak Bay Optometry to anyone.

Having been a patient of Dr's Patterson & Suter from Dr Patterson's early days feel something has really been lost. The expansion and upgraded floor space sets the stage for a pleasant experience. Unfortunately with expansion comes the need for more staff. Customers require something more than take a seat and someone will take care of you. There is no apparent order to service the customers! (Not Referring to Patients)This morning and revisit this afternoon due to a request for me to come back into store because of the order foul up resulted in both visits sitting for 45 minutes. This afternoon I met my limit of being ignored. Lots of staff members on floor but no attempt to even determine why I had returned. Remember it was their request by phone. The long and short I cancelled my Maui Jim's and Sillouette perscription glasses. A cool $2100 dollar order was lost. Dr. P. big is better but only if the reception and floor support staff is on the ball. Having spent in excess of $15,000 over 20 years feel I am justified in giving a 1 star to this review.

Poor value, poor communication. This is the reason the internet is going to kill retail sales in Victoria. My glasses sat on a shelf for two months and no on called or emailed to tell me to come in. And what a shock - when they found that my work covered the first $500 of the lenses the new glasses came in at $575. Save your time and money and just get your glasses online.

When I went OBO the first time several years ago, it took three pairs of lenses before we got my complicated prescription just right. I have had several visits over time with the Oak Bay Optometry and found their products and service excellent. They are very skilled in setting the trifocals to meet my needs, Dr P is great in that he takes the time to listen to my individual needs and has fitted my glasses perfectly.( In addition, his devotion to service in underdeveloped countries with helping people see goes beyond the bar.) The staff are very accommodating, very friendly without exception and helpful in making minor adjustments, and offering tea and coffee and providing free cleaning fluid for glasses. In addition, they are very professional both in appearance and manner making older folk like me feel totally comfortable with declining sensory competencies. As a person who has worked in the professional role of hiring and supervising staff in healthcare, I commend the leaders and staff at Oak Bay Optometry for a job beautifully executed.

I think some of the staff are writing reviews. I did have 2 pleasant experiences at OB optical, but have had at least 12 visits during which staff were EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. As well, the frame styles available are gauged to the Oak Bay clientele. They also do not shape lenses in store. I do not recommend this establishment.

After having trouble with my sight in the left eye, I chose Oak bay Optometry to perform a vision exam on me. I had called to set up an appointment and they got me in straight away. The establishment itself is very clean and professional, and upon entering I was subject to a friendly greeting by a young man. After a thorough eye exam from Raj, who was very friendly and professional, a prescription was found for my left eye. Immediately after the exam I was taken around by a lovely young woman named Kate, who took the time to go through several frames with me and find some that would suit me well for my first pair of glasses. After about a week my glasses were ready and upon going to pick them up, my experience was much the same, fast, friendly, professional. I am loving my new glasses and my new vision and everyone complements me on how these frames suit my face. I highly recommend this place for anyone who needs glasses or eye care. Thank you Oak Bay Optometry. :)

Each time I've been to see an optometrist, I've left thinking, 'well. . . I won't go back there." Every part of my experience at Oak Bay Optometry made me wish I'd found them years ago. Had a great experience today at Oak Bay Optometry. I had a problem with my left. My regular optometrist said everything was fine, but I was not convinced. I was driving by Oak Bay Optometry on a Saturday and decided to stop in. All of the staff were very friendly and wanting to help. Dr. Hua made time for me and ended up spending over an hour to figure it out. Dr. Hua will be my regular doctor going forward. Thank you Dr Hua and everyone at Oak Bay Optometry!

Oak Bay Optometry was recommended for the strength of their optometrist. Our whole family comes and has received a high level of care. We enjoy also hearing about their work to support eye care in developing countries. The centre recently moved into their modern new location where the selection of frames was ver good. The service and follow up has been excellent and they are always ready to help with minor repairs and other issues.

I highly recommend the Oak Bay Optometry clinic. From start to finish all staff were charming, helpful and knowledgeable. The surroundings are nice, appointments were on time and excellent suggestions were made to me. I wasn’t happy with my glasses due to the photo grey additive and they are replacing them with no charge and a smile. What a great place! I have also encouraged my husband and brother to go to the clinic and they were both extremely happy as well. My brother has autism so it was important to me that he be treated well. He said they Very Nice to him.

I am treated by Dr. Mark Paquette, who always has excellent advice and has a patient first approach which seems to be lacking among many doctors these days. I have also ordered my last two pair of glasses through them and was very happy on both occasions.
