Amazing hike!
A very nice walk! The scenery is amazing, but it is a bit cold.
Better than Peggy's Cove.
Beautiful place to visit, hike the trail
Views are breath taking. And worth a visit
I love to drive over to the lighthouse, to go on the trail, what is a lovely well kept trail, along the edge of the ocean. The only problem is when you enter the unpaved road leading to the lighthouse. You go over this road on your own risk, that could end in a trip that can cost a lot of repair on your car. It is a shame that it is not safe to drive there, with these kind of road conditions. Parks Canada owns the site, and I can't understand that they not look after their property, so that our tourists can safely visit this historic site.
Had a great time in Sydney NS! Beautiful views, great beaches and super friendly people!
Great scenery and view. Recommend the stop
Was there for sunrise. Parking lot is right next to the light house. Easy access.
Great stop just across Fortress Louisbourg. And it's free. Must see for the view
Awesome time !!! Very scenic ! I love living on this Island of ours !!
Great photo op. Beautiful scenery. Nice parking lot. But you can't actually go in. Very historic location.
Peace and Calm. Nature friendly place.
Stunning light house. A must visit
1 word BEAUTIFUL!!!!
We just thoroughly enjoyed Cape Breton Island and the light houses are part of it. To get to this one you have to drive along a narrow little road that winds through a little village. Fun.
Great stories shared by all the knowledgeable staff there. Never have I found history so interesting. Must see for adults and kids alike. You will spend more time there than you thought you would!
A beautiful spot to take it all in!!
Breathtaking and beautiful! Would recommend making the trip out here to see this. Trails to hike but amazing just to wander around the lighthouse. Can get quite windy so dress warm. Also can get wet so bring good shoes that won’t get soaked.
My favorite lighthouse. Love it. Views are excellent. Easy access. A nearby hiking trail. A must visit if in the area. But it can be chilly even in summer so bring a sweater.
Beautiful spot to take in the sites and learn a little history.
Awesome wave action. Beautiful spot
Beautiful spot. Appreciated the information signs teaching the history.
Power of the sea against the cliffs. Historic lighthouse
Nice spot with long hikec
Really cool and relaxing. You can sit on the rocks and just hear and see the waves. Across the water you can see Fort Louisbourg which is pretty cool. Also enjoy some trails!
Great view!
(Translated) So there is no shortage of lighthouses here. The east of Canada and the USA is practically a Mecca for people with a lighthouse fetish. This one is opposite the fortress, as the name suggests. You have a good view of the coast and fortress and you can also take some photos where it looks like you are in the Canadian wasteland. The foundation stones of this tower are said to be from the 1730s. If you visit the fortress you can take this tower with you. It's just not worth a trip there for the tower.
Beautiful. Really nice walking trail as well.
Changed my life
(Translated) A beautiful to behold Leuchtrum in the middle of even more beautiful nature From the lighthouse you also have the opportunity to walk the Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail The hike is not that hard so I would rather arrange it as a walk at least the first part (Original) Ein schön anzusehender Leuchtrum in mitten noch schönerer Natur Vom Leuchtturm aus hat man auch die Möglichkeit den Louisbourg Lighthous Trail zu Wandern Die Wanderung ist nicht so schwer deshalb würde ich es ehr als Spaziergang einordnen zumindest den ersten Teil
Amazing location! Narrow road, but still possible!
Fantastic place
History and beauty
Nice little light house. Narrow roads to get to it and not too far from the Fort. There were only a couple other cars so you can get some great photos. The view of the ocean was nice as well.
The scenery is so beautiful and the trail is very safe, many benches to seat on and the walk along the coast line is breath taking. Fantastic job. Thanks for the great time. Rick Stasiuk, Wetaskiwin Alberta Canada T9A 3R2
Amazing view
Beautiful! Enjoyed the walk around the trail; so many different views, it just keeps getting better.
Worth the drive and stop at Foggy's for lunch!
Very clear place. One of the beautiful places I’ve been on my journey thru Cape Breton.
You can even camp on the site
(Translated) Great place to watch the sunset and walk a bit (Original) Superbe endroit où admirer le coucher du soleil et marcher un peu
Definitely a good place to check out if you're visiting Cape Breton
Just wow
Stunning!
The trail is amazing and is different almost every time we visit because of the possibilities with weather. We just got married there and it could not have gone better.
Was never there but after seeing it in the movie, TAKE THIS WALTZ (another great movie from Canada ) I had to visit it, via G maps.
Such a cool lighthouse, really informative plaques and a beautiful view.
I was there so windy and clouded on October 20
This site is where the French built the first Lighthouse in Canada. It also offers a nice view on the Fortress of Louisbourg. It is recommended to visit in the morning to get proper light for the Fortress.
Worth the trip....bring a wind jacket and a sweatshirt...in October it is cold! Gloves are good idea tool. Still, worth the trip.
light house that has a trail behind towards awesome beaches
Spectacular experience
nice pieces on history
It’s a nice lighthouse and a pretty view from the coast. Worth the stop if you’re already at the Fortress.
It was peaceful and wonderful environment
Loved it there.
To reach the lighthouse there is a small hill to climb. If you choose to stop by earlier in the day, as we did, take care when climbing the loose gravel paths, as they can be a little slippery.
Open Ocean with rocks . Special trail with small hills. Check the weather because it is foggy and rainy in louisbourg
It's a very nice place with beautiful views
Nice secluded lighthouse. If you enjoy hikes along the ocean, there's a trail that runs a mile or so out past the lighthouse and around a few small bays and over some points. Terrific views.
Nice picturesque spot with impressive cliffs.down to the sea.
(Translated) Beautiful impressive view At sunset even more beautiful (Original) Belle vue impressionnante Au coucher soleil encore plus beau
An amazing place for hiking, taking photo, and enjoying the beautiful nature landscape. It is our first time here but definitely we will come back. So love this place!
Great views on a sunny day. Learned there were multiple locations of the actual lighthouse. There is also a nice easy trail to the water.
A wonderful place to walk, take pictures or relax. Highly recommend it!
The views are amazing.
Great place, historic lighthouse
I love the trail and the beautiful views
Beautiful place , the view is awesome , a great place to visit and get some wonderful pictures .
It's a nice walk.
Nice lighthouse on a very pretty spot. Good for photos and an excellent view of crashing waves in the North Atlantic.
Lovely and memorable area!
Beautiful view.
For lighthouse lovers this is one of the great ones. First lighthouse on Canada's shores was here. Lots of wave action and photo opps.
Feels like go back to 18 century
Calm to the nerves
Amazing views, special to see the history behind such a unique spot. We had terrible weather and it was still a great experience.
Beautiful place. Nice to see the animals. Enjoyed watching the dancing of upper class people. Gift shop should have sold small hot chocolate mugs and pewter glasses. Also adult authentic peasant shirts like what they wore.
Beautiful sight
Breathtaking views!
Wonderful. scenery, rough coast, nice winds blowing
The lighthouse itself could use some restoration but the views were absolutely fantastic.
Amazing!!
Nice and calm place to see the senic beauty of ocean.....
(Translated) The lighthouse could use a little renovation but is still impressive to see! (Original) Le phare aurait besoin d'une petite rénovation mais reste impressionnant à voir!
Great views. Good place for storm watching, and you get a nice view of the fortress when it's clear.
The views are spectacular, the historical sign posts are interesting and engaging. A concerted effort to restore this heritage site ought to be made BEFORE some of that spalling concrete injures someone.
Had someone recommend we go here during the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. Make sure to bring your camera!
This lighthouse overlooking the Fortress Louisburg has spectacular views. The place can be remarkably brilliant during sunsets. There are a couple of Muskoka chairs for you to sit and marvel at the beautiful landscape. There are a couple of trails that start from this place. The lighthouse can be reached by unpaved road from the Louisburg harbour. This place also has some history attached to it. British had attacked the French warships from here during the sieges of 18th century. There is ample parking space right next to the lighthouse. There are plaques with brief history of the place mentioned in them.
Take the hiking trail about 5 km one way, bring lawn chairs and enjoy views of Atlantic Ocean on rocks and views of Fort Louisbourg beautiful vistas great for photos
Awesome place to visit. Beautiful ocean view and a stunning across the water view of Fortress at Louisbourg. Great shoreline hiking trail.
Stunning views, and beautiful trails! Felt like being in Ireland!! We went around sunset.. Fantastic photos during this time!
Nice spot. Windy tho
Beautiful trail! Amazing views! Worth the trip!
Plenty of parking, a small public toilet, you can get right up to the lighthouse if you're able to walk up a steep, rocky/stoney trail on one side or a slightly less steep grass trail on the opposite side. Interesting information on the plaques. Stunning views all around! You can see Louisbourg fortress in the distance on a clear day. Keep hold of small children, more so near the cliff edges etc as there's nothing to prevent falls. Well worth a visit if you enjoy sea views. FYI, you can't get inside the lighthouse.
So beautiful I proposed here !
The scenery was beautiful, the waves were absolutely breathtaking.
Gorgeous!
Lighthouse is in relatively good shape but the parking lot could use some work.
Great view with large waves crashing against the rocks.
Raw beauty at its best. Nicer than Peggy cove and not crowded
While standing there you can let your imagination run wild thinking about what it must have been like back in the day.
Beautiful hike. Amazing views
Great place for a quick stop if you are in Louisburg, if we had more time would have definitely checked out the hiking trail from the lighthouse.
This is a great stop. It's cool to see the 3 lighthouses and learn about the importance of the location. This stop takes 1 -2 hours depending how fast you go.
So calming and beautiful!
Beautiful spot windy n cool but gorgeous view
(Translated) Worth a detour beautiful view of the fortress and the sea. (Original) Vaut le detour beau point de vue sur la forteresse et la mer.
Love the place
Love the trail
The best place for some peace of mind far from present but closer to the history
Watch for falling concrete
Beautiful coast
Beautiful coastline.
(Translated) Definitely worth a visit !! Wonderful landscapes (Original) Vaut absolument le détour !! Paysages magnifiques
Beautiful spot.
Had to share this picture from the Louisbourg Lighthouse...but a picture doesn’t do it justice. Must see spot if travelling to Sydney.
Beautiful scenery. A landmark that should never be missed if you are visiting Louisbourg.
One of the most visited place by me. I love to spend time out there with my friends. Trail seems to be the easiest and pretty spot to go for a walk. The only problem is there is no tim near to it. Lol!!
Awesome place
No summer homes just nature, and a light house...
A nice lighthouse with a view of Louisbourg in the distance, it is just a lighthouse. The Lighthouse trail which starts here however is a wonderful walk with spectacular views. (See my review of the trail.).
The site is beautiful, and there is a 5 K gravel path along the shore around Lighthouse Cove that offers some great views.
Natural beauty you can see here
Great views! Great hike! Beautiful place!
Lighthouse needs repairs and painting.
Breathtaking view, nothing can come close
spectacular scenery
Nice views of the Fortress and a scenic trail makes this spot interesting
Waves and beauty! 5 min from town and nice quick stopping point with nice view!
Great walk!
Best kept secret.
Great location. One of Nova Scotia’s famous lighthouses.
Beautiful spot, windy
The behind the light house gives a perfect view around sunset
Visited last year and just got back from visiting again, Aug 26, 2019. Great location and the trail gives some awesome views Definitely worth visiting.
Louisbourg Lighthouse was originally the first lighthouse in Canada and the second in the New World. The first lighthouse was destroyed and what remains today are ruins of the foundations as well as one of the replacements made in the early twentieth century. There are commemorative plaques that explain the history of the different lighthouses. It's a beautiful spot but the most recent lighthouse can't be visited and seems to be in poor shape.
Arrive early or late in day for best pics (as aways) and consider walking the shore trail too. It was smooth and only a little hilly but very scenic.
