First, this goes to the only 9 people who left bad reviews... Thank you for the entertainment! lol. The responses from the company were golden. This may sound silly, but the company's responses is one of the things I love about this place. They know people. They speak to you in a direct manner but it's full of quick witty responses. Some people are just not able to handle direct, honest truth... whether it be positive or negative. I went in and said I was looking for black frames with big lenses. You know the hipster ones. They don't suit me but I was hoping I'd find a pair that I liked. "The owners son" as one bad reviewer calls him, lol, I told me "those aren't really in style anymore". I replied with "Meh, I'm not in the know of what's in style so it doesn't bother me". His response? "Well I do know and those aren't it". Ok so we'll stop here for a second. Honestly, in my head, I thought "What a jerk. That's what I like and he's insulting me like that?" but then in a matter of milliseconds I thought "Well, maybe he actually has a point" lol. So I asked him what he would suggest. He picked out a pair that I hated right away and I told him that. He was pretty "insistent" that I at least try (maybe that's the pushyness people complained about). I told him I'd amuse him and try them on. Guess what? I loved them! They actually looked good on me and I'm a super insecure person so for me to compliment myself, that's a big thing, for me anyways. I told him I'd get them. Then I went for my exam and the doctor there was AMAZING! Super quick and to the point. After my exam I sat with another employee who went over lens options with me. She engaged with our kids and showed them how to use some of their tools. She then let them try for themselves. She was very helpful and so good with keeping our kids interested. I paid for my service and two days later, I got my glasses. I've never seen so clearly in my life, so a huge thank you to the doctor and I've never liked any of my glasses to a huge thank you to "the store owners son" lol. The front desk rep was also amazing. She laughed and made jokes with us. To end this long winded review, this place is amazing. Very friendly and you get a sense of family there. Clearly everyone on this team makes a good fit and are great additions to a well run business.

I popped by this place to ask them about measuring my Pupillary Distance. My own optometrist does not measure this as it is commonly measured where you buy your glasses. I asked the Optician who greeted me "if I could get my PD measured if that was okay" and what happened next was completely shocking. He acted like I had asked him to strangle a puppy. He responded with "I am absolutely not okay with measuring that for someone I'm not fitting glasses for" and that he pays 1300 dollars a year to prescribe people glasses. I already have my prescription and I told him I just needed the distance measured so I could buy my glasses online. He responded to that as if I had personally insulted his honor. "I cannot condone the purchasing of glasses online." Well guess what, I'm going to encourage anyone to buy online, especially during a pandemic. Also the optician was shaking people's hands....during a pandemic. Not only should you avoid this place at all costs due to the lack of respect that this employee showed but you run the risk of having someone touch your hands. If I could give 0/5 I would.

I bought my glasses at Lenscrafters a few years ago and I stepped on them. :( I went to Lenscrafters to ask about them and they told me that they was nothing they could do. "It's totally broken. There's absolutely nothing I can do. If you decide to McGuiver it, just don't get glue on the lenses..." Gee thanks. So I went to Capital Optical, EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T BUY MY GLASSES THERE!!!!! And the optician, Greg, said, oh these are fine, I'll be right back. And a moment later he returned and they were all fixed! He even adjusted them for me, and didn't charge me a thing. So I really appreciate the honesty, expertise and generosity of the staff there. I'll be going to Capital Optical when it's time to replace my glasses.

Excellent service, very knowledgeable and will not let you leave until you are happy and everything fits perfectly. I bought two pairs of glasses, one pair came with the blue light filter (which is excellent). It was recommended that I get this blue light filter from the doctor. At the store this filter was explained thoroughly on how it actually worked and how much it filtered (all done through demonstrations). Overall, a positive experience. Keep up the good work.

Great experience! Greg switched my polycarbonate lenses for high index material....WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! Clarity is much sharper and now I feel like I'm living in high definition! Very happy! Highly recommended!

The service I received was absolutely fantastic! They have a wide selection of designer frames and I got great and honest help when choosing the ones that were right for me. On top of that, they were able to put in my lenses in under half an hour and then made sure they fit perfectly. Greg the owners son just spoke down to me because my eyes were red and he didn't want to go through their contact fitting process...his approach to me a past client of their family business was unacceptable. My issue was not with him refusing to fit me with contacts but rather his condescending tone and dismissive manner. Needless to say I will be taking my business to clearly contact or Laurie optical This store tacks on a $40 fee, and 1hr contact fitting appointment for trial contact lenses other opticians provide at no charge. If you are a seasoned contact lens wearer who is looking to simply re-order contacts my recommendation would be to look elsewhere in the mall (to save money and time)

Lovely, attentive customer service. Purchasing first pair of reading glasses could have been a daunting task, but Susan made the experience very easy. The two for one deal had no restrictions, meaning whichever two pair of glasses and sunglasses I liked could be mine, including the 'high end' stock such as Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Kate Spade. I'm so thankful to have found Capital Optical! I was having a bit of a glasses emergency - my only pair broke and I needed an eye exam before I was going to pay for a whole new pair. I called around to everywhere in Orleans and no one was able to help. Thankfully Greg answered my call and asked me enough questions to figure out that even though I couldn't see the optometrist until the following week, he could still help! I brought him my broken glasses, he read the prescription off of them and I was able to get a new pair within the hour and, because of their policy on prescription changes, I'll be able to update my lenses at no charge once I have my eye exam. Thank goodness! The customer service was beyond excellent and the selection of glasses was great. The help I received finding the right frames was so much better than my experiences elsewhere. I'll definitely be back next time I buy glasses!

I loved this place......until one day, I wanted to photograph a set of frames I was interested in, and the owner almost took my phone away saying that customers are not allowed to photograph frames. WHAT?!?! So, the fact that I have purchased countless pairs of glasses for myself and family members does not mean anything. From that moment onward they lost my business, and also the 3 other people in my family. 2 weeks ago, a dear friend had to go back in 4 times to get the right glasses...imagine, they ordered his lenses but not the frames....and so on and so on . Literally 3 shops over is LENSCRAFTERS. No mistakes made there. They encourage you to take photos, the saleslady reminded me twice. Must be why on a Saturday, this store is completely empty. Shame. March 2018 - decided to try this spot again. It was a pleasant experience. A noticeable difference in service. I was very hesitant based on previous experiences. This transaction went relatively smoothly. Rating improves to a 3 ⭐. #localguide

The customer service is excellent, everyone has a smile on their face and welcomes you. This is a family run business and it shows. I’m only giving them more stars than they deserve for the amazing Optometrist Oscar, who did a very thorough job. The service workers are very pushy, will not let you shop without breathing down your neck. I was told by the owner “I wouldn’t want you shopping here.” Because I thought his men’s glasses section was too small, and would have preferred to see more variety. I will be coming back for the eye exam. They can keep their glasses.

Went in to buy some frames, as I have an optician closer to my neighbourhood but they didn't have any frames I liked. One employee started promoting their products which went fine at first, but then he asked me where I go for my optician. I told him where, and he started bashing their company and wouldn't leave the subject alone. It was very unprofessional, and definitely not a good marketing strategy to get me to use their services.

My husband went in, we found exactly what we were looking for (Carrera sunglasses), the owner helped us, he was EXTREMELY helpful and very nice. He even offered to have the Carerra Rep in to further assist us the next time he needs sunglasses AND we joked that it would be cool to have a sunglasses stand for all our sunglasses- well, he went into the back and GAVE us one for free! My daughter & I have been Capital Optical customers for over a decade, first at Westgate Mall then at Place d’Orleans. I recently went to the latter because I had broken the frame of my favorite pair of glasses, hoping that a replacement frame could be obtained. The frame is 5 -6 years old. The owner preferred to lose me and my daughter as customers than sell me the frame at a discounted price. No, he had to make a profit for ordering the frame for me! Wow. Too bad, because I really liked the staff, especially the lady who helped me chose my last pair of glasses. I ordered the frames online for $83 less than what they wanted and will be going elsewhere from now on. The 2 stars are for the staff and the great choice of frames.

After receiving a call that my glasses were ready, I went in to pick them up and was told that the optician had just stepped out to buy a paper and would be back shortly to do my fitting. After sitting for ten minutes, I was informed that the optician was now going for lunch (it was 4pm) and I should come back some other time. None of the other employees present could do the fitting. Very unprofessional service. I would not recommend this business. In the future I will be going back to Costco. Edit: I strongly believe that the strength of any business is how they attempt to understand and respond to customer's concerns. The fact that you took a lunch break was not my complaint (as you refer to it) , but rather my dissatisfaction stems from the fact that you were informed by your staff that you had a fitting and nevertheless chose to take your lunch and have me come back some other time. In my opinion, that was unprofessional given that no one else in the store could assist me. Edit: You are correct. I had already waited 10 minutes for you to get a paper, and would have gladly waited another 10 minutes or so for a fitting; however I was never told you would be back in 10 minutes - I was told you had left for lunch and to come back some other time (as I wrote above). If you choose not to be diplomatic with your customers over miscommunication, that is your choice. It's really too bad, because I like the glasses. Good luck to you!

Capital Optical, a family business that has been providing my optical needs for more than 30 years. It started when they were in Convent Glen with Alex Grieb, the father.. Client service is exemplary from replacing broken glasses and providing temporary glasses until news ones are received. All free of charge. Greg, the son, has been helping me for the last 15 years in selecting my frames and everytime my daughters have approved. Great job Greg. I would highly recommend this family owned business in encouraging local business.

I recently purchased a pair of glasses from here, with the 2 for 1 promotion and I was really happy with the service! The first pair of glasses that I bought (Hugo Boss) is the most comfortable pair of glasses that I have ever worn, I am now 36 and have been wearing glasses everyday since I was 10. The second pair of glasses that I bought were also very nice (Oakley frames). The receptionist was very helpful both her, and Alex were very patient with me, and helped me pick up a pair of glasses that I liked, were comfy, and suited me well. I have purchased glasses at other stores (Laurier Optical, Hakim, LensCrafters) and none of them compare to the overall professionalism, the 2 for 1, and the warranty that is offered here. I highly recommend!!

Best optician in Ottawa imo, I’ve been going here for glasses and exams for the past 6+ years and always get great service and pricing is very reasonable and the glasses have always been good to go within an hour of picking them out. I was even able to get a pair of vintage frames with prescription lenses for $40 because Greg had a promo going on at the time. Not sure if it’s still going on but they always have wild promos like two for one frames or discount on frames or . Even now that I live downtown I still make the trip back to orleans for this place, can’t recommend it enough.

I was referred to Capital Optical Orleans by a friend of mine whom is encouraging me to purchase locally. As you would expect from a family owned business, I was greeted by bright smiles and immediate service. I was helped by a gentleman named Greg. I explained the look I was going for and showed him pictures of frames I liked. He fought tirelessly through frame after frame as I simply couldn't make up my mind. Finally, it happened! He found the perfect pair; blending style, utility and quality into one amazing deal. I was able to find what I wanted and needed in one package. He clearly understood the practicality and dynamics of glasses. He coins a depth vs height ratio as being essential to a good looking set of eyes. After handing my prescription I was off on my way. To my surprise everything was ready the very next day! Very satisfied and would recommend to everyone! I'm now looking forward to my next pair!

I had just received my new glasses in April 2017 which I love, only to have my pup chew them to pieces in the middle of the night six months later!! I am a single mom and on a very tight budget and had used my benefits to assist with the cost of my initial pair. You know the benefits, that only cover $200 very two years!! I called Captail Optical and explained my situation and asked if there was anything at all that could do for me, knowing full well this was not thier problem. Moments later I got the return call saying that they found the frames and could order them and that the lenses would be replaced for FREE!! I was elevated!! Replacement cost was simply the price of the frames. Less than two weeks later, my new glasses were in and ready for pick-up. Thank You Capital Optical! I would highly recommend this team of experts to anyone looking for their next pair of glasses.

Went in for my first pair of non-"cheater" glasses, and had progressives recommended. I struggled with them for weeks, but Alex and the team worked with me tirelessly, listening to my issues and making adjustments, and did not stop until I was finally happy (very much so!) with my new glasses. I don't think too many people would have stayed with me through my trials and tribulations, and even I had come close to giving up, myself. But they stayed with me and finally adjusted the glasses to fit my needs perfectly. VERY highly-recommended!

I have been going to Capital Optical since as far back as I can remember and have always been beyond satisfied with the recommendations provided by Alex and Greg, along with their top-notch customer service. This is a fine example of an Orleans staple that is family-owned and strives to make sure its’ clients leave happy. When I need new glasses or any type of after-sale service, I never even think about going anywhere else. I walk in the door and they know me by name; that is what good service is all about. These guys are 5/5 all the way and if you don’t think so, then there is almost certainly something wrong with you. Keep up the great work lads!

I had an incident where I broke my glasses and was extremely desperate to get new ones as I'm incredibly blind without them. Everyone at the store was extremely helpful and honest. If I had questions about pricing or types of lenses they were happy to either demonstrate or explain what they were to me. There was a gentleman that measured my eyes at the end of it all and he took one look at my broken glasses and said "Oh my..I'm going to try and get these new ones in for you tomorrow. You can't walk around in those." What a relief! I'm used to my glasses taking 5-7 days to come in because my prescription has to be special ordered. I had bought my now broken pair from there 3 years ago. This time, I almost got a pair from LensCrafters (totally forgetting about Capital Optical) and I'm glad I didn't. The staff there were happy to work within my budget and didn't tack on extra, unexplained coatings etc. Just waiting for my call to go and pick them up! Thank you!

What a nightmare, they screwed up both my wife's and my glasses not once but twice... They made good on the glasses but it shouldn't have taken 3 attempts. The owners son actually broke my wife's glasses trying to adjust them for one then the other 2 times the lenses were made improperly. My glasses were improperly made because THEIR on- site optometrist screwed up the proscription, then the lense had to be redone 2 more times because the bifocal line was too high for one, then the lens was wrong for night vision as I was seeing yellows lines off all lighting.If I could give them a ZERO STAR I WOULD..... CONSUMERS BEWARE shop elsewhere.... We've been dealing with NUVO from then on...

Very friendly service and super fast turn around time. They're able to do the lens cutting for you in store so I got to walk away with one pair of glasses with new lenses the same day I picked them which I have never seen before and didn't know was possible. Also loved the selection, a lot of stuff I've not seen anywhere else. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking.

So happy I wandered into this place! The staff is very friendly, helpful and personable. I went in with the intention of only looking but was so impressed by the service and great deals that I ended up leaving with two very cool and unique pairs of retro 80s glasses. They were actually some of the original styles sold when the store first opened that the owner's son dug out of storage as they are now back in style. He talked me into trying on the retro frames and I'm so glad I did. I've gotten nothing but compliments over the past few days and am definitely recommending this place to all of my friends and family.

I had to get lenses for a spectacle kit that goes into a full face respirator I use for work in construction. I got my lenses after a 20 minute wait, which is much better than the 2 weeks wait (minimum) I was told from my optometrist and other stores I visited. Some stores had to turn me away as they could not make the lenses at all (either at their store or outsourced), so definitely check this store out if you need lenses for unusual frames.

I took my mother into the store to find some glasses. She needs glasses to see at a distance. They had a nice selection of frames and a sales associate was very gracious and patient with my mother and allowed her to try on several pairs. A second sales person came by and told my mother she should buy readers. We explained that she didn't need readers. Unlike the first sales person we dealt with, we found the second person quite aggressive and rude. We decided to go for coffee and think about it. While doing so we came across the reviews here and were quite dismayed by how rude the replies were to any form of criticism. We also noticed that immediately after a critical review, there was a five star rating praising the owner and staff. In the end we went to Costco and bought her glasses. As mentioned they had a nice selection, but we were turned off by the negativity.

The optometrist is competent, friendly and offered a great service, I give him 5 stars! Receptionists are great too. My one star goes to Greg, the guy who is selling glasses. First he was pushy in his sales approach and was really impatient. i’m Sorry but glasses are something you wear every day and want to take your time to buy. The worst was when he realized that I wasn’t really interested in his selection and so he insulted me, saying that I was just like his wife who doesn’t like change and told me personal information about his wife... I felt very uncomfortable and I tried to change the subject. Then he told me with an extremely arrogant tone that my current glasses were old fashioned and when people see me in the street they were thinking: wow this woman needs to change her glasses. FYI I bought my current glasses only 2 years ago... He had a condescending tone and treated me with no respect. I will never go back there and will not recommend this place. This guy needs to change his attitude to stay in business.

Capital Optical is my friendly, localy owned, eyewear store! Upon stepping in one can already feel an atmosphere that resembles home. This is when you are greated by very friendly staff who are not there to pressure you but instead listen to your wants and needs and make recommendations to improve your eyes health and to make you look good doing so! Definitly my #1 recommendation! In regards to a comment posted by Kylee Steele: I bought a pair of polarized, anti glare, anti scratch, reflective coated, mirrored, uv safe top of the line Guchi Aviator style frames plus lenses and it was under 1000 $.

I have visited Capital Optical in the past at Place D'Orleans and the owner and the staff were very friendly and professional. However, upon going for an eye exam recently, the doctor performing the eye exam was EXTREMELY condescending, rude and overly impatient if his instructions weren't followed properly. Having looked the wrong way or did something incorrectly during the exam, I felt like I was being scolded like someone would do to a child. I'm a grown adult and there is absolutely no reason to speak to someone like this. I became very frustrated and on edge during this eye exam and just wanted to leave. I don't expect to visit a doctor and be treated this way. Completely unprofessional and definitely not a people person. They lost a customer and I went over to Lens Crafters to buy a pair of eye glasses where the service was very friendly. My advice would be to tell this doctor on staff to improve his people skills. He was VERY off putting and I left there very angry. I should have said something to the owner but did not see him when I was leaving. I have had no problems with the staff ever and even during my recent visit just not impressed with the doctor and left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Great service and great products!! Since i bought my glasses from there 3 years ago hadn't had to change the frames when I got my prescription renewed. Went in a couple of time to have the frame readjusted and always greeted with a smile and they re-straighten my frames no problems good as new! Also very honest on how the frames fit you regardless of products. They always find something that fits you!
