This past week I bought a Perception Tribe 13.5 kayak from Pelee Wings - a transaction that was literally seven months in the making. Jeff from the store patiently helped me through a series of probably a dozen emails and a couple phone calls, and I drove all the way down from Collingwood to get the boat. They helped me secure the kayak (it's a big one) in the bed of my truck for the long drive home and took all the time I needed to evaluate paddle and accessory purchases. (Which I got for 15% off since I was buying a boat.) All I can say is that these people are incredibly helpful, immensely knowledgeable, and great to do business with. Worth the drive!!

Took a Kayak Level One class through this store (teacher was Van and safety person was Roger). Excellent. I’ve taken one class before (at a totally different school), and this one was far superior. The class delivered everything that was promised: types of kayaks (including their uses, pros and cons), paddles (with a bit of testing each type), safety gear, etc. We had lots of time in the boats, launching at a quiet location near the shop. We spent a few hours learning and practicing different strokes: forward, backward, stop, a couple of ways to stay in place, sideways. The teachers encouraged a bit of friendly competition among the students through a game of tag so we could practice our strokes without over-thinking things. In the afternoon, we learned a couple of different assisted-rescues: for this we went into rougher waters on Erie. I came away far more confident that I could actually practice this sport safely and with increasing competence.

The sunset paddle followed by a steak dinner was fantastic. The operators proceed some on water instruction that helped my 12 year old improve his paddle skills. They Lake Erie was also very cooperative with us as we couldn't have handled significant waves with our recreational kayaks. The dinner was awesome with filet mignon and twice baked potatoes. The Outfitters part of the business is also outstanding. We bought out kayaks with very little knowledge or experience. Out on the water during the paddle they let us try their carbon and fibreglass paddles. This showed us how we can start improving our own kits. We will be back!

If you head out and make an immediate right and go through a little opening in the rocks, you'll be in the very calm waters where you and your group can practice or just spend some time hanging out. Calm water area is great for little kids.

We bought an inflatable stand-up paddleboard last summer, and it sprung a small leak in late August. The store contacted the manufacturer for us and got a replacement, but we live 4 hours away, so they stored our new iSUP for us all winter and during the spring pandemic until we were able to come and get it. When we picked it up, it was super quick and easy. We really appreciate how they took care of us so well.

The absolute WORST online buying experience EVER. I purchased a pair of binoculars from this store on April 21st 2021. I received a confirmation email and the store took the money for the purchase from my Visa. I expected a long wait for the mail as COVID has basically brought parcel delivery from Canada Post to its knees. So I patiently waited eight weeks for my binoculars to arrive. But they never did. So on the eighth week I email Pelee Wings to ask whether they know how long it’s taking for their packages to get places…. and that’s when I find out they never placed the order I made with their distributor and they explain that my purchase was flagged to call me back (which no one did!) and explain that their distributor was experiencing delays and if I still wanted my purchase the order could take a few months. They then ask if I still wanted to make my purchase that I had made eight weeks ago, paid for, and received confirmation about so that they could NOW order what they should’ve ordered eight weeks prior. Now, where I’m from, if someone takes money from you for something and makes no effort to follow through with their commitment but tells you they did do it and offers no refund or communication about it with you and you have to hunt them down about it to get answers…. We call that theft. This business would’ve stolen from me had I not followed through on my end. That is quite simply the WORST thing a business can do to a customer. Offering me nothing but a weak apology while attempting to blame shift their abysmal customer service onto their distributor, CELESTRON for having delays, instead of taking the blame they deserved for their clear communications screw up, is shameful. I had decided to give them my money over Amazon, the next closest price, because they were a local business and I try to support local when I can. But the customer service experience I had was nothing short of shocking. And I will never be supporting a business that attempts to steal from its customers and then tries to blame another company. EDIT: I spoke with Eric, one of the managers at the store and he apologized and once again explained their ordering process and told me that the pair of binoculars I purchased weren’t popular and customers often went with another brand. He offered no solution and after his blame shifting to their process and then Celestron and then on my purchase itself for not being good, I have no further desire to do business with this company. And I strongly urge others who have done their research on a product to simply buy elsewhere, or be prepared for your order to not be put through, for your money to be taken, for them to question your purchase and for them to not try to communicate any of this to you until you contact them months later. I cannot say enough terrible things about this experience. People there clearly need to work on their customer service with people online because what I’ve been through over the last 24hrs with them is totally unprofessional and unhelpful. This review will stand because no one did anything to help me at all and only added to my frustration over their mistakes. Buy from Amazon or your local shop. They don’t actually have the selection they claim to, and they have to order it but won’t unless they like your purchase. And if they don’t like your purchase they will just take your money and wait for you to ask them why they didn’t send you what they gave you a receipt and confirmation for, before they give it back. Proof of everything I say is available at anyone’s request, especially a sales agent for Celestron, just email the address leaving this review! JG

Rented kayaks here, great price and very very friendly service. Super convenient rental process. Less one star only because upon return the waves were extremely tough (no fault to them, obviously) which made it extremely hard to get out and unfortunately there were no staff available to assist. Awesome store. The service was fantastic, everyone was super nice and extremely helpful. They let me try out a bunch of different Kayaks in the water so I would know which was the right one for me. They gave a lot of great advice and tips when it comes to kayaking. It didn't matter how busy they were, I always felt like I was being well taken care of by all of their staff. Once I found the right kayak for me the staff were very informative when it came to finding me the right paddle based on my height, stroking technique, and the kayak I chose. Afterwards, I enjoyed myself at one of their picnic tables, enjoying the beautiful view and eating some really good food. Overall I had an absolutely amazing experience. 10/10 would recommend to a friend or family member. After coming here, I dont think I could ever go anywhere else. This place and these people are absolutely amazing.

They offer rentals in the marsh at Point Pelee as well as in the lake where they are located, so that will be my next step in testing out the models Jeff recommended. In-house payment plans are available, which may benefit some people. UPDATED: I originally marked this place as 4 stars only because I hadn't gone all the way through the process of a large purchase (or rental). I normally rate businesses on the quality of end-to-end transactions and not on a per visit basis, but I m unable to do so in this case. It was a big order to fill with a dead line for a trip and me being so far but they met it with patience and understanding. On Dec. 7, 2020, I ordered a Kowa TSN-773 Prominar spotting scope (complete with a 20-65X eyepiece), a protective cover for same, along with a Manfrotto 290 Aluminum tripod. Most birders will know that this is a substantial outlay of cash. For non-birders - even tho’ we can’t travel right now - it is the price equivalent of a decent two person 7-day “warm weather” vacation. I dealt with Eric, who was pleasant on the phone and had some good advice. He said he would ship my order out the next day. Unfortunately, things began to go south soon afterwards. I never did receive a “tracking number” email from them, but simply figured that eventually my parcel would arrive, hopefully in time for the Christmas bird counts. When it still hadn’t arrived by Christmas, I called down to Pelee in the last week of December. Eric wasn’t in-store that day, but I talked to Jeff. He also was pleasant and promised to look into things for me. Which he did. Jeff called back later in the day to finally give me my tracking number. He also informed me that unfortunately, it looked like my parcel had been hung up in transit at Canada Post’s Stoney Creek facility near Hamilton for at least two weeks. It then made it to Winnipeg on Christmas Eve, where it rested again for a while. The scope was finally delivered to our door on the afternoon of January 5, 2021. JUST in time to miss all of the CBCs!!! Now, while I agree this isn’t all on Pelee Wings - Covid and Christmas rush notwithstanding - after 29 days, a FREAKING dog-team could’ve delivered it faster!!! At least it was the right model number & everything was in working order. However, this next part definitely IS on Pelee Wings. Sadly, the tripod I also ordered was NOT part of the package I received. I made another phone call the next morning. Eric answered this time and said he wasn’t really sure what happened either! The next day, an apologetic Eric called to say they had somehow overlooked the tripod with the order! He said he would ship me one out post-haste, which they did. This time there WAS a tracking number supplied. Amazingly, this time it only took four days to get here! Unfortunately, Pelee got it wrong - AGAIN!!! I received a 'Vanguard' tripod, which: A) I certainly hadn’t ordered. And B) Was not impressed with anyway. So I shipped it back to them. By now I was DONE talking and was simply communicating via text message. Eric later texted back to say that the Manfrotto model I wanted just happened to be out of stock and another wouldn’t be in for at least two more weeks!!! Why not??!! To complete this epic tale, the new and FINALLY correct Manfrotto tripod finally arrived on February 1st. In summary, it has been nearly TWO MONTHS from my original order date to completion of same!!! Of course, while this certainly fits into the category of ‘First World problems’, nevertheless it has been a VERY frustrating process!!!!! For all my time and trouble - not to mention the considerable amount of cash I laid out - Pelee gave me 10% off on the price of the tripod. Big WHOOP!!! To say I am NOT impressed, would be the understatement of the century!!! When you're running a business that is dependent on customer satisfaction, perhaps it's time to consider another way to get your product to them in a more timely fashion. Not to mention filling the order(s) out properly! I will happily NEVER do business with this store again!!!!!!!

Recently I visited Pelee Wings to purchase binoculars for the Leamington District Secondary School EcoTeam and Environmental Specialist High Skills Major program. Our students are very engaged in citizen science projects and field studies that require the use of binoculars. When I explained the purpose of my purchase to store owner Mike, he very generously offered to donate three pairs of quality binoculars to supplement the three I was able to purchase within our budget. Students have already used the binoculars several times and have witnessed some rare bird species at Point Pelee. Thank you for inspiring a new generation of young naturalists!

While visiting our grandchildren and their parents who recently moved near Point Pelee, we discovered Pelee Wings. This unassuming building houses a first class business. The staff were superb, the service was second to none. And the scope and number of in-stock items related to the outdoors in the Point Pelee region far exceeded any reasonable expectations! We were mainly interested in binoculars, discussing possible issues with one of our own binoculars, and buying a new one. We dealt with Mike, Heidi, and Jeff on three separate days. Mike taught my 7 year old grandson and myself all about the choices, and while looking outside the store, helped us identify a turkey vulture and herring gulls flying right over our heads. When we returned to shop later for new binoculars, Heidi helped us finalize our choice, and even demonstrated "pishing" for us ( look it up!). Delightful! On a third visit, Jeff helped us to better understand our astronomy binoculars and put my concerns to rest. We also found dozens and dozens of books on birds, butterflies and anything related. Needless to say we picked up some good ones, as well as a great little bird call. When we left the store, my 7 year old grandson told me he loved the store, which is not surprising as all the staff treated us with the utmost respect, and there was lots of stuff there he is interested in. And then he told me he would like to work there! And I can certainly understand why!

Not so good. I prefer to deal local and with small businesses. I therefore chose to purchase my Kowa spotting scope from Pelee Wings. Michael failed to tell me that the very important cover was not in stock. So he shipped the scope and backordered the cover. BUT he did debit my credit card for the cover even though it did not ship. He assured me that the cover was on order and expected the next week. My email the next week resulted in a " yup, on order, expected this week and will ship immediately". So, when it did not arrive, I phoned and was told that they were very busy (should that be my problem? he's got my money.) When I asked to speak with Michael, he told me to send the scope back and he would credit my account. So, we play ball his (ineffectual) way or he takes his ball and goes home. arrrggggghhhhhh

This is the third pair of binoculars we have bought through Pelee Wings, and the second pair of Kowas. Purchased the 8x33’s in December, and were so impressed with the optics and ease of use that we purchased the 8.5x44’s. My birding experience has really improved.
