As a weekly shopper at Food Basics in Chatham Ontario I find their weekly specials and variety of products good for our budget and grocery needs. They carry quite a wide range of products at fairly competitive prices. After my Friday shopping, I arrived home and began putting away the groceries when I realized that one of the items I purchased was missing. We checked the trunk of the car without finding it. I reluctantly called the store and explained ...thinking we may have left it when packing the groceries? The customer service person told me to bring in my receipt and they would make sure we were looked after. That was a surprise as We thought it would be our loss...???? This will certainly be a factor in us continuing to be regular shoppers at Food Basics. ☺

This is a nicely run Food Basics, I've been to some really crappy ones in other places. {Looking at you FB Brampton!} But this one is good, it is clean, always stocked and the produce is fresh with a nice selection. The meat dept. is a bit small but who can afford beef these days anyway?

Seven months ago, I visited this store and was delighted by the service I received here. Yesterday, I didn't have the same thought; the cashier who served me, threw my grocery items onto the conveyer belt as I looked at her when the items were coming to me. When she looked at me and saw that I was not impressed by her actions, without apology she stopped and asked me how I was going to pay. What bothered me, she was very polite to a white customer who bought 12 cases of 12 orange crush cans, four cases of perrier sparkling water and paid by credit card. Attached is a copy of my receipt adding to the credibility of the above.

The cashier's could be friendlier. The young ones will greet you but some of the people who've been there a while don't even acknowledge you, except to tell you the amount you owe. Even if you say hello first, sometimes you won't get a hello back. They need to work on customer service.

Place desperately needs to be remodeled. Dairy doesn't last long, such as milk and cheese. Veggies don't look as fresh as they should half of the time. Today we were in the Chatham Food Basics store around 2:30, this was the first time I have ever had a problem at any Food Basics store. To say I was both frustrated and annoyed at the service is an understatement. My Husband is going for hip surgery and we stopped to get some things your meat selection for chicken strips, cutlets, and nuggets had signs 2 for $15.00 so we grabbed two packages... apon getting to the cashier however we were told one package was not part of the sale even though the sign was right below and on the side unit several times... So he went back to get another package to keep the deal I proceed to start to pay with his credit card but when he came back the cashier once more stated she would have to get another code but that it was okay, we just wanted to get home and hubby walked out saying keep all the food... it was most annoying to look and be treated infront of people like we were trying to rip the store off.... if you have a sale make it clear, don't treat customers this way....

Prices are great, it's definitely not a high-end grocery store, but the prices are fantastic. The only thing we look out for is our produce. We have brought a lot of strawberries raspberries and blueberries home to find them already moldy. But now that we know to look for it it's not a problem.

I went to Food Basics today looking for a few items. I found lettuce and hamburger buns and small containers but not the cleaning supplies I was looking for. At this point they don't carry Murphys oil soap or vileda spin mops. I was tentatively looking for a swifter floor duster as well but didn't see any there. I would advise you to go to another store for these items but I know the food selection is great at Food Basics.

I have been a basics customer for many years. I don't agree with the changes in the store as far as placement of products that occurred lately! But. Your people in management and all the way through to the tellers can only be described as caring, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly!
