I thought I'd change from my regular opticians (Dr Grenville - Sparks) to find my next pair. I drove by this store on Elgin and decided to walk in. The front store could use a little bit of maintenance and window cleaning service. I was greeted upon entering the store and I asked how their frames were displayed. Viktoriya approached me to offer her help and within the specific criteria I gave her, I could soon choose amongst several frames she was able to find. And this was the best part of my experience: very professional, a very keen eye for symmetry, her eye catches the tiniest details and beyond that, the fact that she cares left me with a warm feeling of welcome. They can be lucky they have her. The only caveat is that, despite the fact that I paid a deposit of $344 which was the equivalent of 50% of my purchase, she was whispered to collect the full price from me. I guess some things will never change... I also had my eye exam done with Rob Sgarbossa, awesome! He has a great attention to details, maybe because of his specialty, but it made a difference from my current prescription and the result is a better eye focus.

This place is amazing and definitely exceeded our expectations in every way! I had my first I exam at this clinic about a year ago and was treated in a very professional and thorough manner, so I brought my young daughter to the clinic for her exam. The day we brought my daughter in for her I exam the front reception and office staff had quickly noticed it was also my daughter’s birthday that day. Very discreetly they asked me if they could give her a little treat. They gave her some brownies and all sung “happy birthday” to her. Needless to say, this made it her favourite doctor’s visit ever! Additionally, Dr. Mimosa is clearly excellent with children and a very diligent doctor. We will be committed to the clinic for as long as we can be. Thank you Eyemaxx and staff!

Loved my experience! The doctor I seen took the time to listen to my concerns related to my eye history and offered information previous doctors (different city) had not shared. My family has a long list of genetic eye related problems that I am at risk for and each concern/worry was addressed. The optician worked with me to help me to keep the frames I had gotten less than a year prior and ensure the options for lenses was explained when I asked questions. Quick turn over on getting my lenses in and changed. Safe and clean environment related to infection control! Will be going back for future eye appointments and glasses

I scratched a lens in a pair of glasses that I had bought at a larger company store. I received pretty much the worst customer service of my life from that company when I tried to replace them, so honestly, the bar was so low for me. Eyemaxx was the only store in Ottawa that offered to replace the lenses from those frames, even though I had bought them elsewhere. I received great customer service - the staff went above and beyond to help me. They were knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and happy to answer all of my questions. Even though one lens was scratched, it was recommended that I replace both, so the cost ended up being what I had paid for the frames and lenses combined to begin with. HOWEVER, I felt way more confident in the lenses from Eyemaxx than I did from the other store, AND way more confident in the customer service and help I'd receive from Eyemaxx if anything went awry. Honestly, you get what you pay for, and I'm stoked my glasses have been fixed. Thanks Eyemaxx!

Gross negligence alert. All my symptoms were ignored and upon 'consultation' I was told nothing is wrong with me. As my eyesight kept worsening the unexperienced optometrist REFUSED to provide me with a referral to the ophthalmologist. LO and behold I ended up in emergency and now scheduled a surgery fo pituary tumor, with vision significantly worsened, double vision and twitching eye, in risk of a stroke. Trying to share 5th time as my comment is not being posted Merry Xmas and will not return there ever

I really cannot recommend this place enough. I don’t know why it took me so long to make them my go-to for sunglasses. They ordered a pair of glasses that weren’t available anything else, and even got the original prescription lenses for me. The communication was fast and efficient. Fantastic selection of frames (including Garrett Leight, which I have been wanting to see in Ottawa forever) and truly top-notch customer service. I live abroad and they were kind enough to work with me over email to fulfill my subscription and get me the glasses I wanted. When they arrived, I unfortunately found that the frames didn't fit my face as well as I'd like--which was totally my fault as I had tried them on in a different store but ordered the wrong size. I asked what could be done (thinking I'd have to pay a restocking fee at the very least) and Eyemaxx was more than happy to exchange for a new size or new frames, whatever I preferred. In short, they were completely understanding and committed to ensuring I was happy with my new glasses--plus they happily put up with the hassle of working with me halfway across the world. You really can't ask for anything more! I'll only be buying my glasses here from now on.

Absolutely awful experience. The only and last time I visited this place, I was having pain and my vision was being effected. It was about 40 minutes untill closing, and I really needed someone to check my vision. I begged the staff to let me set up an appointment ASAP, they asked and the doctor refused and shooed me away. (Obviously they wanted to go home). Thanks for caring about the needy. I went somewhere else and got all the answers I needed.

I've had two visits now at EyeMaxx Optical Studio in Ottawa and I just love going to them. Ask for Dr. Alexa Levine. She's amazing. Patient and gentle and takes the time to answer your questions, plus the examination process is not rushed. The staff too are super helpful, taking the extra effort to suggest all sorts of frames, to find just the right one. I ended up purchasing frames that were on the 70% discount rack. They are also equipped now to process eClaims if you are insured by your company, so this is a bonus as well. You can't go wrong with EyeMaxx Optical Studio.

I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Have bought three pairs of glasses here over the years. One set was Dilem (with the interchangeable temples), and after *five* years of daily use the tiny plastic hinges finally wore out and 3 of the 4 snapped off. So, a phone call and email exchange with the very helpful Parsa had me mail in the frame (I had moved to Toronto by this time) and they repaired it at no charge - they had to order in the tiny pieces, but they only charged me for shipping. Now that is service way above and beyond what one would expect. I own a good supply of temples which would have gone to waste otherwise, so I am delighted and relieved. Throughout, correspondence was quick and efficient and ultra-courteous. Seriously, where do you get service like this anymore? Truly a business that stands by their products and strives for customer satisfaction.

I came here a few years back and was not at all impressed with the quality of service. The receptionists were dismissive and not very polite, though I noticed customers who came in after me receiving a much higher quality of service… to be honest this business, as well as the Doctor himself, did not provide for a very pleasant experience. I came in with a discount coupon from my work and it was ‘laughed at’ and not honoured. I found the whole ordeal very pretentious and shallow. Needless to say, I have never returned and I am very happy with that decision I made. There are many eye- care services around the city at which one can receive much better service.

What a pleasant and professional experience!! I first went to another place called L O, and I waited half an hour in front of the L O just for the door to open ( Google Maps said they open at 10 but they opened at 11: 30 ) and when the door finally opened for me, I heard "call tomorrow to book an appointment" and told me to leave I said to myself "That is enough! Screw this place" and called Eyemaxx instead, my appointment was scheduled on the same day, and my experience at Eyemaxx was professional and outstanding! :) It was very easy to follow the instructions of the optometrist!! Like most of us - I want perfect vision while having a “challenging” prescription (according to me - I’m sure they’ve seen worse). And now I have what I want: contacts without a need for readers after trying a few pairs of contacts and taking my time. I have no benefits and paid a very reasonable amount of money to get the best contact prescription and a new pair of glasses. I never felt rushed, everything was explained to me, they really got the idea that this was an investment in self care. I won’t bash previous places, but let’s just say Eyemaxx is taking care to the next level while still being competitive price-wise.

This is by far my favourite place to go for everything you need for your eyes (glasses, eye exams, contacts). I've been here for two eye exams, bought a pair of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses, and have been fitted for contacts as well. Dr. Shelly Huang is amazing, and aside from the exam, she is very patient with answering all your questions and is very knowledgeable. Before coming here, I never liked the look of glasses on myself, but with the great staff on board, they are super helpful and friendly and know what styles suit your face shape. Boutique has a great pandemic protocol: you must to book appointments to peruse glasses or for eye exams, masks are required, everything is sanitized, clean and ample hand sanitizer is available on-site. Dr. Alexa Lavigne is attentive, friendly, kind, professional, knowledgeable, and expedient. The optician, Michelle, was helpful and has an excellent eye for locating frames that best suit your face; she's also very direct with her opinions on glasses that you try on. Overall, this was my best eye exam experience in my few decades of wearing them. BIPOC friendly establishment. I highly recommend this boutique to anyone who is tired of chain optical stores since the service is by far superior, personalized and the selection is replete with international spectacle choices. It's hard not to shop local when the entire experience is such a pleasant one! :-)

Many years ago, I purchased a frames and lenses from EyeMaxx - the quality was great and they were the thinnest and most lightweight lenses I have ever had. I have visited the store on several occasions since then to search for a new frame. Although I haven't had success finding a frame that I liked, the service was always great and I learned a lot about what size and shape of frames suits me the best. The optometrist was nice enough, but when he handed me the prescription he told me it was "for glasses only." When I asked him what my contact prescription would be (since I had been very clear that I do not wear glasses often and regularly wear contacts) I was told he 'didn't know, but 'could guess'. The only way to get a proper one was to pay an additional $50 fee for contact fitting. In 16 years of needing glasses/contacts this is the first I've had to pay extra to ensure my prescription is correct. When I mentioned to the receptionist that I typically was given 1 contact per eye to test out, she happily agreed- and then charged me the $50 anyways as that was considered a fitting. When I asked for a refund, they told me they would put the cost towards glasses or contacts from them that I had already been very clear I wouldn't be buying. Overall, the experience was slimey. The fact they charge extra for something every other optometrist is able to work into the appointment, charged me for something I had been very clear I wasn't interested in and then tried to make it seem generous by offering a discount on services I didn't want makes them untrustworthy.

Lots of expensive designer glasses. If you are a student or on a budget, look elsewhere. Asked for a PD (pupillary distance) measurement during the eye exam and the optometrist said that it's only provided by the sales associate for an extra $40 or $60 fee if I don't purchase glasses from their store. Pretty ridiculous fee for such a simple measurement that literally takes a minute. I've had past optometrists provide it for free during the eye exam upon request. If the brands in store are beyond my insurance coverage, I would likely buy from online retailers and I need the PD measurement. Also they couldn't figure out how to direct bill my insurance. I called my insurance company after and they said it was the responsibility of the business to contact the insurance company if direct billing was not working. The insurance company reimbursed my eye exam cost with no problem.

I've always had a great experience at Eyemaxx. All of their staff are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They are very attentive, not like many of the chain stores you come across in malls where the staff seem cold and disinterested. They have an amazing selection and although their main selection is arguably higher end they can accommodate most budgets. If you live in Ottawa and need glasses be sure to see the Eyemaxx team. I give one star for mostly friendly staff and large selection of frames. Prices are very high - my glasses and lenses (single vision) came up to $800. I purchased blue light filtering lenses. These made the lenses yellowish and changed my entire colour scheme for the worst. I wasn't informed of these properties. The lenses were poorly crafted. They had to redo them twice. The first time I received my glasses, I immediately upon putting them on, informed the salesperson that I could not see well at all. My prescription hadn't changed and these were WAY too weak. It would have been seriously unsafe to drive. Despite this, they insisted I try them out for a week. Finally they redid the lenses only to make the same error again. On the last delivery, I could see, but the lenses were poorly cut and "wobbled" in the frame. At that point I had given up. I was polite and patient through the process, but was never offered any sort of rebate or compensation for countless hours spent in the store while staff tried to figure out why I couldn't see. Huge waste of time and money. I would never recommend this place, or go back.

Reason for 5 star: 1. They helped me find special tint for my eye condition and what they found really helped me. 2. During covid, I start seeing black spot. They gave me an appointment the same day and gave me a referal. So very happy about the quality of their services. 3. One of my glass frame broke and they were able to get the manufacturer to replace it at no cost.

I have been wearing glasses for over 50 years and have a lot to say about opticians around the world. The Eyemaxx optician in Ottawa is one of the best I have experienced. I had broken my glasses frame, an expensive Japanese model, right in the middle while doing housework. The lenses were still intact. The first time I tried a big name optician in the center of town, I was told they could not repair this. Through recommendations, I came across Eyemaxx on Elgin Road. There was an optician there who had received his training from German opticians, among others, who had the necessary knowledge to put the frame, which was broken in half, back together. Nothing is visible externally, and I was saved the high cost of a new frame and new lenses. I am very grateful to Eyemaxx and its staff, in particular Michelle and Jim. They have combined high professionalism with excellent service. In general, the atmosphere in this store was very relaxed and friendly, maybe because I saw only ladies on sale there? In any case, the customer is effectively helped there and at a reasonable price. It is also a fantastic opportunity to support a local business. I can recommend Eyemaxx without reservation.

I ordered a years worth of contacts after having an eye exam with Eyemaxx and they ordered the wrong prescription for me. They fixed the issue by exchanging the boxes because I hadn’t opened them yet and luckily noticed before opening the box but this is a ridiculous error on their part. While they did give me an extra pair of trials to hold me over I never received an apology from any of their staff on the matter or accountability. The first girl I spoke to on the phone just tried to get me off the phone as quickly as possible and she promised she would call me back but never did so I had to follow up. I’d recommend going somewhere else after this experience. EDIT: the manager reached out after I posted here, apologized personally, and gave me extra pairs of trial contact lenses! Revising my rating to reflect the service received after the fact because the manager, Sydney, is so great and handled the situation so kindly.

I have visited a few other places for service and an exam and I have to say that Eyemaxx has some of the best customer service I have ever had. The DR that did my exam was simply put, amazing. She was friendly, in a good mood, happy to explain what was happening and responded to all my newbie questions of having glasses as my last few pairs at other places were terrible and the service was basic, like I was bothering them for an exam. The excellent customer service from the first phone call, to walking in, my exam, up to receiving my glasses was simply world class. If other types of business would follow their lead in providing this level of customer service more business would flourish.

My backup eyeglasses broke on me; I walked into Eyemaxx Optical Studio and asked if they could be fixed. About five minutes later, a staff member gave me back my glasses restored to pristine condition. Not only did she reattach the lens but she also replaced the nose pads. I wasn't even charged for the repair; incredible and rare customer service. I'll be getting my next pair of glasses from this place as soon as I update my prescription.
