We love our optometrists - Dr Derek and Dr Karen! Our kids think they are funny and friendly - at that puts everyone at ease going to the doctor.
Dr. Margot (Crouse) is wonderful ???? she is very thorough with her work, and the support staff are all welcoming and friendly.
Was promised new glasses in about 4-5 days, waited almost 2 weeks.
The eye exam with Dr. Chang was excellent, but the adjustments on my glasses were atrocious. They snapped my temple caps on my frames and they were replaced them with one that were of much lower quality that had unattractive bumps and lines on them. Furthermore, they decided the appropriate adjustments to back of my glasses was to bend them to a comically absurd 90 degrees, when I asked for a minor adjustment. They were previously aligned at approximately 160 degree. If you like your glasses, don’t let them touch them.
Despite going to different eye doctors, they were the only ones who figured out what was going on with my daughter’s eyesight.
Very good service been dealing with them for about two years and never had a problem they said it would be 5 to 7 business days had everything processed and ready for pickup in 4 business days.
Friendly team, great doctors. Have had the pleasure of being Dr D MacDonald's patient for many years. Never had any concerns. I recommend this optometrist office.
Without a doubt these eye care professionals are the best around. Dr. Derek MacDonald has seen me a few times, but I have been a patient here for a few years and will recommend this practice to anyone I know. My last visit I had gotten photos taken of my eyes, and Dr. MacDonald even explained everything and increased my knowledge on eye care and helped me understand what it is that I saw on the screen. Very easy and comfortable testing, wide variety of frames and the optimetric assistants are always super helpful.10/10 would highly recommend
First impression: clean, professional & family friendly (has a kid play area!) Staff: I spoke mostly to Avery at reception; she answered all my questions, helped with insurance (even submitted my claim for me) & helped my daughter pick out glasses that worked with my budget. Doctor: we had the pleasure of having Dr. Margot Couse - she is really patient & professional & overall very nice. She answered all my daughter's questions and listened to her stories with a smile. Misc: less than a week to get the glasses my daughter picked out (perfect fit, too), & was notified promptly.
I was blind but now I see! They helped with my Cataracts. Thank you all very much.

I've always found Dr MacDonald to be professional and knowledgeable. Staff is friendly and helpful. When it came time for my tri-focals or "progressive lenses", I had a hard time adjusting to them and they were more than willing to make sure I was happy and provided the adjustments I needed. Highly recommended! And my progressive sunglasses made driving a pleasure again!
Dr. Karen MacDonald is the worst practitioner I've ever seen in my 13 years of wearing contact lenses and seeing optometrists. I came to her to renew a prescription that didn't accommodate my astigmatism (meaning the prescription had the same power in both eyes). My first visit to her, the front desk staff didn't warn me she was 30m behind, so I showed up 5m early and waited 35 minutes. After explaining to her my issues with my current prescription she gave me a stronger prescription that was the same power in both eyes. When I asked her to explain that choice, she simply just told me that the math came to that prescription. I was skeptical but I chose to trust her, and I left with that prescription. Not surprisingly though it wasn't right, and I had to schedule another appointment. The second appointment was by far worse. After checking my sight again, she basically explained to me that her prescription was correct, even though I was experiencing a lot of blurriness in one eye. After handing me samples with an updated prescription I asked her to explain the new prescription to me. Her response was to tell me that the L and R labels on the sample she gave me were 'left and right', and that I should change the solution in my contact case every night (knowing I've been wearing contacts for 13 years). When I asked her to explain why she chose a significantly different prescription than the last she said, 'this is what I want to try first'. After that, she swapped the L and R labels on the sample explaining that she mixed them up. When I got home, I had to try the contacts on before realizing I needed to switch them back. Needless to say, this is the worst eye care I've ever experienced. Oh, and I now have to go back...fingers crossed the third the prescription works. **Update: It didn’t. I’m now going to have to go to a different optometrist for a fourth prescription.
I've been taking my family and myself to Dr. Derek and Dr. Karen for years and have nothing but great things to say. When my kids were little they were treated with care and made to feel comfortable. Last year when a mistake was noticed in my teenager daughter's prescription, Dr. Karen immediately offered to have it corrected at no cost. Dr. Derek always has the time to explain what he's doing and answer any questions. Patient, kind and knowledgeable... What more could you ask for?
Great doctors, friendly staff. I have been seeing Dr. MacDonald for around 20 years and have never had an issue. Both my parents and a lot of my friends and family go here as well and have always had a good experience.
Booked an appointment for a specific type of consult for our baby. Reception said no problem. It was not easy (he really doesn't like visits to the doctor and the appointment time disrupted his lunch and nap), but we made it through the entire exam, only to find out the doctor didn't and couldn't perform the needed test until several years later. Frustrated at the waste of time (2 hours) and effort, due to wrong information we received at booking. Very disappointed.
Dr. Derek and Dr. Karen have been caring for myself and my entire family for many years. They are professional and personable. I appreciate their patience to explain the tests, results and any follow-up actions needed. I highly recommend them.

Scheduled appointment and actual time you go in, has a difference of 30 minutes. There is not a single other person in the waiting room.
Very poor service to the point I had to cancel my order. Even though it was not my error I was still charged $25.00. Refused to email my script to allow me to get my glasses fast, would only mail,fax or I would need to come in. Will never go back after being a loyal customer for over 12 years. They are getting to big for their britches! Sharon Macdonald did offer to eat the 100.00 charge that they neglected to tell me about but did not take the time to understand why I was so upset! I found her to be very short with me. Instead of admitting error she was more concerned with getting me off the phone! I will never pay for bad service and will not take my daughters back either so I hope the 25.00 charge was worth it for them. Stacey McLean. Not really a review (since I'm not in the habit of reviewing myself ...), but since I had to pick a number of stars, I picked 5 ... ;-) However, we wanted to reply and apologize to Mr. Hamel. The combination of the Rx in your right eye and the need for an anti-reflection coating meant that we shouldn't have promised several days delivery: that was our mistake, and we're sorry. Compounding that was a small scratch on one lens that necessitated a remake to ensure that things were perfect: despite that delay, our records show that the initial job was ready in 8 business days, and the remade lens was available 3 business days later. We're sorry that you were disappointed, but hope that you'll give us the opportunity to make it right. Thanks in advance.
My wife, 2 kids and I had our eye exams by Dr. Chang. She was great with our 3 year old and 15 month old. She was very friendly and professional. We also got glasses and are very pleased with them.
Love the team at Ilex Eye care and especially Dr. Dereck. Because of his actions, I can see and this feels great!
Debbie, horrible customer service, hung up the phone on my husband after she upset me with how she was speaking with me. A) told me health Canada rejected my sons name, after I corrected that several times with that in petson, my sons name is correct on health card, she even had me spell it out for her on a paper as she said she didn't understand the health card!!!....called today again same thing, telling me my sons name is combined when it is not!!! B) Not to mention on my appointment friday , my husband and I had booked for 4 pm to look at nanovista frames, to protect my sons eyes from trauma as he has only one eye he can see out of. She asked me " well what are you here for?" (In a very rude manner) i replied with well, Im not sure, I was told to come in and they would have a look at what the hospital prescribed and we can order the frames in but they only carry brand - life Italia..c) we drove 45 min to this place as we really felt Karen Mcdonald was a nice optomitrist snd had seen our son since through begining of his eye health concerns at only a 8 weeks old D) my son started getting fussy as he wanted to be nursed, I kept saying I'm not sure about these we havr bern recommend the nanovista, and she kept saying we don't carry them, while everyone was running around moving furniture for a upcoming carpet clean , we felt rushed and said we will just pay and i went to the car to nutsr my son, my husband stayd behind to finish up, she did not tell us it was final sale! Or recommend we wait. All the said it would take up to 4 weeks because of Covid!!!!!!!!!! Not happy at all. E) after she denied everything snf told me to go get thr receipt so i can see the print at the bottom, after we paid, its final sale as its a custom order!!! Ate you kidding me, well done Debbie, for not take accountability, for being problomatic, and playing thr victum card, she immedialty jumped on that I wasnt speaking to her very nicley, after she kept denying the entire transaction, I think I asked for a call back from Karen McDonald 5 times, she kept talking over me, passed the phone to my husband but she kept ranting on, and hung up on him!! Waiting on a call back from Karen McDonald. Can not believe we rearranged our day to drive out 45 min to deal with such poor CX service. ( please ignore typos)
