Dr. Mayans is an outstanding ophthalmologist. He discovered that I have a fairly rare problem with thyroid related eye disease.When he realized there was a new medication that might offer relief, he and his office went out of their way to contact me, bring me in and explain the nature of the therapy. Another long ago experience in which I was planning a 50th wedding anniversary cruise but developed an acute set of eyes symptoms was handled by him on an emergency basis to allow me to enjoy my 50th trip without worries.

Dr. Mayans was very rude and inconsiderate. I walk in because I'm in excruciating pain. He can careless and tells me that why I couldn't come in at another time than today, that he has other things to do. The whole time in his office he's being rude and raising his voice at me. After a few minutes I have enough so I get up and literally walk out of his office. He walks out and slams the door behind me. I'd rather the pain than to continue taking his insolent disrespectful behavior.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My 15yr old daughter lost all peripheral vision in her right eye. Dr mayans told me it was likely due to stress and wanted me to wait for a couple of months to see if it came back . I obviously was not satisfied with that answer. I requested a referral. It took him over a week to get the referral submitted I had to keep calling for updates. I finally called the new DR he was referring me to only to find out they do not see patients under the age of 18. So we are back at square one almost 2 weeks with no answers no direction or sense of compassion or concern. As a mother this is the most difficult thing to deal with especially when the DR acts without urgency. I would NEVER recommend this Dr . I will say the only one that has been helpful is Crissy she was working to help me get a referral to the correct DR. Hopefully I can get the referral quickly and get some answers. Update. Finally heard back from Dr. Mayans!!! He called to tell me I owe him apology for this review!! When I disagreed he hung up on me. If I could leave negative stars I sure would!!

Very rude Dr. This is my second time bringing my father in for a check up because obviously he's needing surgery and Dr.Mayan has no patience whatsoever for handicapped people. Very bad experience and if you're needing services I suggest going somewhere else..NEVER AGAIN!!

excellent opthamoligist people say he is rude which is not true he is a very nice man and is very good at taking care of his patience I believe people confuse him being straight forward instead of sugar coating my eye problems It is a tough pill to swallow when it has to do with possible vision loss I love that he is honest one receptionist was rude but maybe she is new her name is chrissy so avoid her and his nurses are awesome as well

Cabin Fever

We have used Dr. Mayans for many years now. We moved away from Odessa years ago, but after trying other doctors in our area, we drive the 6 hours to come back to Dr.Mayans. Enough said? Yes....he is that good!

Dr spent less than 5 minutes with me after 30 minutes of testing. Lost my prescription, asked to have one faxed over. 5 hours later i called back, “oh well we have been real busy”. To busy to walk in and get a signature? Never going back.
